Three Plus Years and Counting

Bought my Hyundai Sonata because of the price, warranty, and features. Have owned it more than three years. Dealer replaced dead windshield washer pump at three years. No major problems in three years. Would and will buy more Hyundai products. My biggest complaint is the road noise when driving on the interstate. Those ole boys (and girls) in Alabama build a GREAT car for the money!

Pleased in almost every way with new 06 V6 LX Sonata. It drives great and looks great. No problems after 5,000 miles. Gas mileage is a bit disappointing getting only about 26 mpg highway. Steering wheel radio controls should be improved to allow changing between preset channels and the trip computer controls should be added to the steering wheel radio controls like those found on other cars. Many impressive safety features like stability control and dual side airbags aren't even available on most other cars in class. Overall all I love the car. I have no regrets in trading in my 2003 Nissan Altima which was a good car but didn't hold a candle to Sonata's builty quality or performance.

I've got pratically all the features that were in my fully loaded '02 Passat, yet several thousand dollars cheaper. The six year 60,000 mile full coverage warranty was quite a draw too. So far so good!

I love my '06. Bought it used. Only one thing I hate besides the seat belt chime is the car creaks and groans over speed bumps and or rough driveways. Sounds like the rear window is being flexed or something back there is flexing and creaking. Dealer can't find anything. They've reinforced the package shelf and replaced the rear shocks. No noise when it's rainy outside and the road is wet. Anybody have this problem or have a solution? Great car, otherwise!

I can't put this in words, but the 2006 Hyundai Sonata LX V6, has more cabin room then Toyota Camry or Honda Accord, has more horespower and tork, and more standard features for less money, as well as America's Best Warranty! How could you go wrong, you can't it is a no brainer! Check it out for yourself. I won't ever regret this purchase and will not hesitate to buy another one for myself and my family members!!!

Front Seats could be softer as I've compared same to leather seating in other makes. The exterior and interior are exceptionally beautiful. The vehicle is a pleasure to drive but haven't been able to experience highway driving to ck. the so-called 30 miles per gallon. Would like Hyundai to make a recall to soften seats. The styling is eye popping overall.

I bought my 2006 Sonata LX in April of 2007. It had about 3,000 miles on it. Since then I've driven it nearly 35,000 miles. This car has performed well and has had very minimal problems. The ride is great and the acceleration is more than adequate. The only service I have done to it besides regular maintenance was: power mirror replacement(under warr.), brake light sensor (under warr.), passenger sun visor broke(under warr.). I also had to replace some air valve in the engine due to stink bugs crawling up inside it...ugh. Thats nothing against the car tho. Overall, I love this car and it's been very reliable. Would definately consider buying again!!

Well I must say that I have been thoroughly impressed by this car. I purchased it today and as soon as I sat in it, I noticed the high quality of all of the interior components. Love the grey/black two tone and placement of the controls. Driving was just as great. I ended up with the 4 cylinder and was surprised by the pep. Handling is great too. Low road noise and great looking body. I also was impressed with the standard features like stability control, electronic breaking, six air bags, etc. Check out this site and the Hyundai site and then go get this car!

I have had my Sonata for a little over a year now. I have traveled all over the U.S. with it as it is now showing 56,000 miles. I absolutely love this car. It's powerful, the warranty is great, and I feel like I have nothing to worry about when I drive down the rode. I have owned both Accords and Camrys. This car is just as much of a car at those others which will run you about $5,000 more for the same options. I will definitely buy another Hyundai. I am hooked and stand behind it.

It's been 3 years and 28,000 miles and my wife drives this car every day to work and I drive it on weekends and we have taken it on several long trips (Nova Scotia, Florida). Bottom line: no squeaks, no rattles, no problems. Highway mileage about 28 (regular) and overall, mostly 8 mile trips for my wife to work, is 19 mpg. Lots of power (V-6), great brakes, generally very quiet except for suspension noise in the rear over big bumps and engine noise under full acceleration. So smooth you can't tell if the engine is running. Very comfortable (leather). Only 2 complaints: radio reception is not good, suspension slightly floaty at high speed (like a Camry, but a little better). Great value!

At 30K mi in 3 years, I have absolutely no complaints. The power/smoothness/quiet/comfortable ride & build quality have made the V6 Sonata a pleasure to own. The only repair so far has been the driver's sun visor, which was replaced under warranty, and Hyundai has a redesign that corrected the flaw. Hyundai's 60K mi bumper to bumper warranty is much better than the competition's. The engine burns zero oil, and holds 6 quarts. I get 27-28 MPG hwy consistently, & 22.1 MPG on my 20 mi commute to work. My car is loaded, and a comparably equipped Camry would have cost me $36K. Mine was delivered for $19.2K. How can you beat the value? I'd buy another Sonata in a heart beat!

This is my second Sonata. I had a 95 GLS V6 way back when and never had a problem with that one. I have had this one for a bit over a month (GLS V6) and love it. The car is smooth as silk. My only complaints would be the poor (19mpg) mileage around town and the fact that the o/s mirrors are not breakaway, a feature the 2005 Sonata did have. I got mine with the premium package. The vehicle is very quiet, but the 17" tires/wheel do have more noise than I prefer. The standard tires are not nearly as noisy, so if you don't like tire noise, get the standard tires. I would have done so myself, but it was included in the premium package and I really did want the sunroof and the upgrade mirror

Sonata Shortcomings

Gas mileage is suspect. While local driving is OK, highway mileage is low. I've gotten 25 MPG when driving on Interstates at the posted speed limits. When I asked about the mileage, I was told that the tests were done with 91 octane, which is not mentioned on the window sticker. It is in the owner's manual, but one does not see that until he/she is the owner. Frankly, I was disappointed that I can only get the low end of the mileage range with the recommended octane gas--87 octane. I don't believe the warranty lives up to the hype. If it does, why do I need to pay $1593 for additional warranty coverage?

Out the door price just over 23K! And I get ESC, TC, EBDS, Homelink, Heated Leather Seats, over-sized Moon Roof (it's big), subwoofer & amp. Car is very well built and the fit & finish is better than Camry, on par w/ Accord. The interior is soft to the touch. Love the way the engine growls, especially in low rpm's. Lots of low end torque for fast acceleration from dead stop. Downshifts smoothly during high speed passing. Nav is a $2500 dollar dealer installed option. Remove cd changer & replace w/ 8-9" screen. (visit Korean Hyundai site to see it) Hyundai uses Eclipse deck (very high quality, installing next month)

If american car makers tried as hard as hyundai to win over buyers they wouldn't be in the mess they are in now.I have bought american cars for 25 years. Not anymore. Poor reliability and high cost to maintain finally forced me to look elsewhere. I did my research and found a winner in the sonata. Excellent value! Great warranty and quality workmanship. The car has a smooth and quiet ride, handles nicely and the V-6 with the shiftronic transmision makes it fun to drive. I don't think you can find a better car for the money.

I just Love this Car. It has great looks, drives wonderful, handles great, fun to drive, reliability and quality unsurpassed. The many standard features, both for convience and safety is unmatched even in cars much more expense. I believe this is the best keep secret in America. Great gas mileage for a engine this size - V6, 235 horse power. I get 23 in city and 34 on the highway.I just don't see spending several thousand more dollars for a Camry or Accord, etc.I would compare this to one any day! You can't go wrong with this car.

The commercial says this is a Hyundai like you've never seen before and let me tell you, that ain't no joke. I've driven Accords, Camrys and, Altimas too. This car handles like a dream and is as smooth as butter. An all new, all aluminum 235hp V6, traction control, stability control, 4 wheel disks with ABS at all 4 wheels. Are you sure this is a Hyundai? If you buy an Accord, Camry, or Altima and you don't drive this car, You will be missing out. A V6 with duel exhaust! I love it! It truly is a Hyundai like you've never seen before.

Traded in our 2004 Hyundai Sonata straight up for this 2006 SEV6. Have owned for just over 2 years now. The dealer replaced oil injector (pre- luber) and right front strut at 2 years.(Warranty, baby) Other than that, no other problems, period. May trade in for a 2009 if they can pry me away from this one. ;) Biggest complaint is the road noise when driving on concrete surfaced roads, pavement isn't to bad. The stock 17" Michelin tires wear out quickly...will not buy those as replacements.

I highly recomend this car. The design turns heads, the interior is spacious and comfortable, the ride is smooth and responsive. The sunroof and mproved radio option is worth the money. I traded a 2003 Snata, which was a very good car but underpowered. Miles per gallon are short of advertised. I live in Florida and the airconditioner is very important, this car has cold air even in 95 degree weather.

I've owned 15 sedans so far in my life and this Sonata is the best, period. I can't believe I can get all of these safety features and "options" at a price $5000 lower than my previous Toyota. There is absolutely no reason to buy Toyota anymore. Everything works perfectly and I LOVE the A/C. It's colder than my freezer in the summer heat! It handles well, gets admiring looks from neighbors and can seat five people comfortably. The build quality is really awesome. I now believe the Consumer Reports story that Sonata is the best quailty car in the USA. I just wish I had a bit more money to get the V6. I hear that's even better! Bye Toyota!

My 1998 Mazda died and I looked for a used one, but way too expensive. Happened upon the Hyundai, reluctantly went into the dealership. He took me for a ride and I thought, there's gotta be something wrong with this car. The dealer sent me home with it for the day and I went back the next day and took it for the day. Incredible is all I can say. Love it... I'm short so I can never see where I am going. This car is amazing. I don't even have to turn around when backing up cuz I just look in the rear view mirror. The ride is like gliding on a glass slipper. I call it my Cinderella car and it didn't break my bank buying it. Wish the gas mileage was a bit better, but I can live with it.

My kids both owned the early Hyundai models that we deemed THROW AWAY cars. I was leaning toward a Honda and test drove some, but I kept reading the reviews on the Sonata and test drove one. I bought it immediately. Much more for the money than my second choice -- Honda. This is quite an impressive machine. Then, there is the price and the warranty. All together an unbeatable fine automobile for the money!

Great purchase my wife and I have been looking for a new car in the lower to mid 20's we've test drove the xB, xA Aliama, Corolla, 300, 500, Civic and Accord LX (which I've owned 6 - I'm a very big Honda fan) Anyways we drove them all and this one won hands down. More standard features more power and overall better value. I just wish this was the first test drive I did. I would have saved myself about 7 saturdays sitting around the dealerships.

After comparing similar sedans (Honda, Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, VW & Ford) I was very surprized I would even consider a Hyundai. After reading the steller reviews on Edmunds and other sites & publications, I had to try one out for myself. I could not believe what a refined vehicle this was. I've driven plenty of quality vehicles from BMW, Audi and the above makes, and this Sonata is as solid as most anything I've driven. The doors were very heavy and the ride extremely quiet (similar to my fathers' Audi A6). With the best warranty, largest interior and great looks, it was a very easy decision making the Sonata GLS-V6 our next car. I'd look into one while they're still a bargain~better hurry!!!

Still love the car I spite of the 2 things that bug me=the seatbelt warning bell is going to die after I buy it and the am radio is the worst I have ever had (29 cars). I was going to buy a 09 but I hated the black carpet in the light interior. Stupid and cheap looking. (all the 08 ltd's were gone!) I average 24-25 mpg with the v6

This car is truly remarkable. All I have been doing is regular oil changes and the Hyundai recommended services and this car has ran awesome. No problems whatsoever. Knock on wood! I guess, I m now a loyal Hyundai owner and would probably not think about switching to other car makers. My Maintenance cost till date has been $751.18 and this includes regular car washes, oil changes and the 7.5K, 15K, 39K and 37.5K hyundai recommended maintenance. I used to own a Japanese made car as well as a German made car before. I thought the Japanese cars were maintenance effective compared to German car, but I got to admit that Hyundai beat the Japanese car I had. Good car to own and operate!

I now have 30k on my '06. Would make the same purchase without hesitation. Yes, I wish fuel economy was better, but 200+ horsepower ain't free, I get 25mpg city and hiway. Quieter than the Buick Park Ave I replaced. People comment on how quiet the car runs and at hiway speeds. You can't buy anything as good as this car for anything near the money, I was off the lot for $18,200, wanted a Passat, but saved $4500 and got much more back seat room in the deal. Service costs have been negligable, most appointments have cost less than $50, worst one less than $200. Still feels fresh at 30k. Dealer was very good, actually had fun buying a car for the first time in my life.

I just bought a 2006 Sonata LX with the moonroof and subwoofer add. I really wanted the new Honda Acoord but after pricing the new Sonata i just could not justify paying $3,000 more for a 4cyl Honda Accord Ex. The only improvement i can sugguest for Hyundai to do is to add a channel changing button to the steering wheel volume controls. If you have been kicking over the idea of buying a Sonata like i have just go ahead and get one... You will be pleased.

This v6 sonata is incredible. I tested drive Mazda6, Mits Galan and Lincoln Zypher, they all priced 6-8 K more but can't beat the sonata performance. It's so powerful and quiet and drive smooth. My kids didn't like huyndai but after they drove it, they said dad, it drive like a mercedes, a little exaggerated but they mean it was great. That's for my wife. Thinking about buying myself an Azera. My relatives still think I am crazy buying huyndai. They can think that way but I just love huyndai.

I love the interior and exterior styling of the car. I wish the car's rear did not look too much like the 05 Accord's, it needs its own identity. The front seats are very uncomfortable. The seat belt warning light does not turn off if you are not wearing one. The suspension is horrible, you feel every bump. It is not as silky smooth like an Accord or Camry. The steering wheel radio buttons serve no purpose, all they change is the volume and not your presets or cd track. It needs break away mirrors. This is a nice car but if they fix all my complaints this car beats an Accord and Toyota hands down, but it doesnt and this is why Hyundai will never beat a Honda or Toyota. It will always be # 3

Honda and Toyota were two main imports that prevailed for the past decades. But it is official, the hell freezes over!! This Sonata out performes those Accords and Camries in terms of built quality and performance. Actually it can be compared with a Lexus or Acura league.
