I remember seeing the 2006 for the first time in a post office parking lot and thinking about buying the car. Three months later I am exceptionally pleased at having done just that. My next car will likely be another Hyundai based on this last purchase. Easily the nicest car I have ever owned.

Hyundai continues to produce better and better cars with each model year. I owned a 2001 Santa Fe for a couple of years and was pretty satisfied with it, which is why I was willing to look at the Sonata when it came time to replace my aging Camry. From the moment I sat in the Sonata I knew I wanted it. It's fun to drive and the 5 speed automatic transmission is a good match for the 235 HP the motor kicks out. The car has ample power in the passing gears and launches you from 55 to 75 in the blink of a eye. And surprisingly, the car does pretty well in the snow with the stock tires. The traction control and anti-lock brakes keep the car under control on slippery roads up here in Minnesota.

After 58000 miles, it has turned out ot be a great investment. I looked at Lexus, Audi, Volvo and Nissan and found most of the same features and better power for over 10,000 less (if buying used, beat the depreciation). Perfect reliability. Only two complaints. The visor broke and won't stay in the back position and It would be nice to have a greater range of adjustability in the power seat. I will definitely buy again. My wife only averages about 21-23 MPG but the price difference is worth it.

I never expected to own or love a Hyundai, but this is not the same Hyundai of yesteryear. I LOVE THIS CAR! When I drive, I feel like I'm in my own little piece of heaven. The engine is so quiet, the controls are easy and don't require a manual to figure out. The interior and trunk are way more roomier than they have any right to be.

I did a lot of research on this car and its competitors. My objectives were to replace my 1995 Camry with something similar in size, miles per gallon, and price. I felt that the Sonata was the best deal out there. It had many standard features that were options with similar cars. I am enjoying driving this car, but I am not satisfied with the mpg rates I am getting. For a combined city/highway driving, I am averaging only about 18-19 mpg. I thought that buying a 4 cyl. I would be doing better with the gas. It is also rather noisy on the freeway. I also find the trunk very heavy to lift. Regardless, I am enjoying the solid feel, the radio, and the overall maneuverability

The car is smooth riding, very quiet, and has a lot of pick-up. Accelerating is no problem in this car, as it gets up to high speeds with no problem. The steering is good, although there is a little bit of understeer at higher speeds.

A whole lotta car for not a lot of money. Went with the LX to get the 17 inch performance rated tires and the auto climate control. Generally a comfortable, well handling car however I find the gas mileage to be abysmal in that it's not even close to the EPA estimate. More like 15 mpg in the city (sometimes less!) and a fair 28 mpg on the highway. Acceleration lags a bit however at highway speeds passing speed is achieved quickly and powerfully. Carpeting in my car was not installed properly; molding on spare tire cover has come off. Paint easily chipped to base coat. Overall, I'm quite happy with this purchase.

Drove the Accord, Camery and the Subaru. The Sonata is a basic luxury car. By that I mean it has all the right stuff where I want/need it, not overstuffed with gadgets like the Honda. Ride is excellent and relaxing. Our first Hyundai, but not our last (if it ever wears out!). I have nothing neg to say about this car, love what it looks like too.

This is a great car and I really like it but it has an engine whine at 60- 70MPH that is very annoying. So far Hyundai refuses to do anything to resolve the prblem. As I said I really like the car but not sure I could recommend it due to engine issue and Hynudai's lack of help.

Personally I loved the 2005 sonata.I am a couriour and drive over 350000 miles a year. The 2005 gave me very few problems and was comfortable and easy to drive. The 2006 is still easy to drive however hyundai got rid of the more classy look that the sonata had. They gave it a sport look trying to copy honda instead of jaguar. The seats make your back hurt when u drive alot and the armrest in the middle will make your shoulder hurt. The armrest also has a spring in it that makes it a pain to closse when your driving. The transmission slips all the time and i think there may be a recall later on.I also think there may be a recall on the shift lever because it will slip out of park with littlpressr

After owning a few nice but questionably built US cars, this Sonata model has restored my faith in car manufacture. It's just beautifully designed and built. It has a strong and confident engine. The details are just so nicely thought out. This is an unparalleled highway car. Improvement I feel could be the ride as it's is a bit bouncy on city bumps and the gas mileage drops too much in the city. Otherwise excellent excellent car. Gorgeous refined looking exterior.

I purchased this vehicle to replace my 2003 Mini Cooper (too small). A+ to the team at Hyundai. I am very pleased with my purchase. This is our second Hyundai and this company keeps improving every year. Interior quality and design are of a very high standard. Powerful, quiet, and fuel efficient v-6. It rides smoothly on the highway and it handles well in small curvy roads. The standard safety features, stability control and curtain air bags, were a big factor in our purchase of this vehicle over the established Camry and Accord. I also prefer the styling of the Sonata over the Japanese competition. In my opinion, this is simply the best value in the mid-size market segment.

Purchased the 2006 Sonata LX V6 in June. Fresh off the factory floor. Good price for a good car despite two early recalls for minor fixs. Has good pick-up to get on highway. Good visibility. interesting areodynamics. You should see the air flow pattern from the driver seat when its snowing. Fasticinating. Easy reach to all important controls. Seat warmers work well - almsot to well. Downsides: Poor handing in snow. Darn seat belt bell wont stop ringing if you get out of the car with it idle.

My wife and I have now put a little over 2000 miles on our 2006 Sonata V6 GLS and are extremely pleased. No problems whatsoever. Very comfortable in city driving and on the highway. Many passengers and guest drivers have commented on the quietness of the ride and stealthy performance. "We're there already? It didn't seem we were going that fast". Comparably equipped V6 Camrys and Accords go for $7K more, did not drive as well and came with a substantially inferior warranty. We've been getting between 21 - 22 mpg in the city and average 29 - 30 on the hwys through the mountains going 80 mph, with 4 passengers and the AC on. Have yet to approach the limits of the motor.

Well being laid off from a job is never a good thing. I have been working at Bellsouth for nearly 20 years and just got laid off so having to downgrade my house to an apartment and 2006 Honda Accord EXv6 to a Hyundai Sonata LXv6 was a lost too. Having features such as a map and Navigation System or even the smoothly performing V-TEC and 5 speed manual i was not happy. The Hyundai is a "generic" car. It seem as if it is of good quality, but maybe comparable to my last car a 1999 mazda 626 ESV6 (sorry i tend to buy only V-6 models for perfomance reasons only)and like it is about 3 to 5 years behind the competition. Hyundai is still a player in the catch up game and is learning also.

Traded in my 2005 Elantra GT for the Sonata LX. I have logged over 1000 miles in the past week and it has performed flawlessly. I'm sold on Hyundai because of the performance of my Elantra GT. I had driven that car cross country and logged over 19,000 miles, through the heat of Florida to the frozen ski resorts in Idaho. So far I haven't found any needed improvements other than the folding mirrors and XM radio. I find the gas milage averaging 28.5 with the V-6, I got 32 with the 4 cylinder Elantra. I don't know where everyone is coming up short on the MPG figures other than the trip computer is off, it will click off MPG while sitting still. Log your miles and divide by your gallons.

After the unfortunate experience of having my 96 Acura TL (paid for, only 95k miles) totaled, I reluctantly began to look for its replacement. I found this car after a long search and slowly fell for it. The Sonata has won me over. Mileage is good, fit & finish are nice, good quality leather and the interior is really roomy. The engine is bigger, so I'm enjoying the power. Pretty good pickup, and though it doesn't claim to be sporty, i find that it handles well enough for my taste. The funniest thing is convincing people that a Hyundai is more than a low end, minimally styled car. I'm still grieving the loss of my Acura, but am so far very pleased with my "new" Hyundai.

I did not expect such excellent quality from Hyundai. Well this one runs like a Lexus LS350. The top two Japanese brands such as Honda and Toyota won their high reputation over the past couple decades. I think Hyundai will achieve the same high reputation within the next two years.

I spent months reading at Edmunds and other sites about this car and finally test drove and bought one. My wife was in a minivan and not enjoying it, so I thought I'd surprise her for her 30th birthday! Definitely a great surprise. Our first trip was over 250 miles from the dealership home (great deal) and we averaged 28.8 MPG with the V6 and cruise set at 73 MPH. Outstanding! Fit, finish, attention to detail, styling...Hyundai really did their homework on this car to make it a true contender with the big boys: Accord and Camry. With a decent rebate and a great 2.9% financing available through April '06, I bought this car for $6,000 less than a comparibly equipped Camry or Accord.

I upgraded from an '02 Elantra GT due to a growing family. My first thought of the redesign was the style falls more to Honda or Toyota, but I like it better than the '05s. I've always driven standards and I was happy that I could get a midsize 5 spd that wasn't stripped of safety or comfort features. The 5 spd shifts smooth and with authority. There's plenty of pep under the hood. The ride is quiet and smooth, but almost too soft. But that's compared to the GT. The interior is large enough for 3 car seats and nicely appointed. Compared with my Mom's '03 Camry, I prefer the Sonata dash layout. All in all, a great value for a family hauler. It feels more luxurious than any other Hyundai.

I've not purchased a new car since '88, so I was very choosey about this one. Previous cars owned were all domestic and purchased "preowned" (read pre abused) - I'm not too easy on a ride either; 25K to 28K miles per year and I drive'm 'til they drop. (Usually to 200K miles or more). I wanted a nice car, an inexpensive car, a reliable car, and some options would only sweeten the deal. This car serves all that and much more. I can only echo others' comments here. But I'm sure when the payment book is empty and the odometer reads around 165,000 I will have finally finished my test-drive.

Owned a 2002 Saturn L300 before this car. Originally was going to buy an Elantra, drove the Sonata as an after-thought and bought it instead. Absolutely LOVE this car - it handles well, gets better mileage than the Saturn and is infinitely quieter than the Saturn. Unbelievable value for the money - a Camry/Accord class vehicle for a lot less. I am very impressed with how far Hyundai has come from when they were first introduced in America.

We realy like our new 06 Sonata LX except for one thing. The suspension on these cars make a really loud sound when going over bumps. It makes the car sound like a bucket of bolts. This has been a major topic of discusion on the Hyundai forums with a lot of owners looking for Hyundai to provide a solution. It's to bad because other than that it's an outstanding car. I had no cons at all about this car. After owning a Sonata that never gave me a single problem, I decided to stay with Hyundai and just down sized to an Elantra yesterday. I know I will never be left stranded and can count on a high quality, dependable vehicle. I highly recommend Hyundai to anyone looking to buy a car. You will not be disappointed!

To start with it's beautiful has a V6, 5 speed automatic, Electronic Stability Control, 4 wheel disc brakes with anti-lock, traction control, Etc.,Etc. But these and the other standard features would be ho hum without the thunk when the doors close, the quality feel as you operate levers and switches, the supple ride with almost no wind noise. Then kick the V6 in the butt and the grin widens as you remember you bought all this for so little!

Compared to Toyota Camry, the Sonata LX is a super buy. Has all the added feature of the Camry at a much lower price.

This car has it all from heated leather seats, electronic compass, great sound system , excellent interior and faster than most cars in it's class with the aluminum V6. The gas mileage is excellent if you can keep your lead foot off of this speedy vehicle. Hyundai reminds me of the early days of Honda...the price of this Sonata is going up in the future. The quality is unsurpassed even by Honda.
