Used 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe Consumer Reviews
Hyundai Warranty and Brake Quality
I have a 2002 Santa Fe GlS with less than 30,000 miles and had to get 3 brake jobs and 4 new rotors for the SUV. Hyundai says it is the way I drive but my Toyota Highlander is driven more, gets better gas milage and pick up and has no issue with it's brakes. Each change is $700 to $1200 dollars. Add that to the price of the car every 9,000 miles and see if you are happy. My engine is now sounding as if the lifters are going which they can not hear untill the warranty is over. My radio display is gone, Just missed warranty! Nothing was covered by the "warranty" which they tell you to read the fine print! GOODBY HYUNDAI AND WELCOME BACK TOYOTA!!!!!! AT LEAST THEY HAVE PROVEN QUALITY.
Great get around vehicle
If your driving around town or on short excursions, it is a great vehicle to own. Drives and handles very well, good gas mileage for an SUV, has a lot of cargo room. Was hit by another car from behind and it felt like I rolled over a little speed bump -- good quality construction.

Driving IS believing...really it is.
I've been impressed. Being a long time Honda/Toyota buyer, I was somewhat skeptical about Hyundai. But what really drew me to the Santa Fe was it's unique and bold styling..so I got one last fall. It's been an impressive experience for me ever since. Hyundai's advertising claim, "Driving is Believing"...is reality. Once you drive one (especially the FWD version - sportier)...you'll want to get one.
Almost an RX300 for half the price
Wife really wanted the Lexus RX300 but the price was heart-stopping. We each test drove the Sante Fe at 2 different dealerships and couldn't believe value of this SUV. Toured the entire Dallas Auto Show and NOTHING touched it. After 6 months we have 10K miles and a trip to Colorado with our new Sante Fe and zero problems. Very fun to drive, great ride, lots of cargo room (more than our old Windstar van with a family of 4 loaded in), loads of standard. features. Second gear is geared a little low but the pickup overall is just fine, city or highway. From a die- hard Toyota and GM fan, this is one great car. Plus the warranty if you're still not convinced!
Love My Santa Fe
I still love my Santa Fe after owning it for 5 yrs. It is just now starting to get little things wrong with it after 67,000 miles on it such as the light on the radio doesn't work, just replaced a brake switch, plugs and small things like that. The only major problem I've had is the air conditioner went out, thru trial and error with the dealership, they finally had to call the company, to find out it was the computer. They replaced it free of charge under the warranty with no problems. I've never had a car to compare with this one. Don't like the style of the new ones, but would love to have a new one just like I have now.
