Not my first Hyundai, but will be my last
After discovering pools of clear, relatively thick fluid on my garage floor under the engine of my 2021 Elantra SEL, and taking it to the dealership three times, each resulting in misdiagnoses (oil filter leak-which wasn't the problem), faulty rear main engine seal-again, not the problem AFTER removing the transmission to access the rear seal), it was finally determined it needs a new transmission...after only 7,000 mi. Hyundai has approved the warranty coverage and it's been sitting at the dealership waiting on a new trans now for more than 40 days. I was recently told by the service manager that there's another 2021 Elantra that had been brought in with the same issue. It's now solidly within the lemon law requirements, but since I'm leasing it through Hyundai USA, I'm hoping the dealership will step up and either get me into a new car, or since I'm in Alabama and Elantras are assembled at the Hyundai plant in Montgomery which is only 200 mi away from my dealership, request authorization for Hyundai to send a new trans from Montgomery, take care of a paying customer, and get my car back on the road asap. I don't understand the reason for this ridiculous delay and I certainly don't want to continue making lease/insurance payments on a car that I can't drive as the result of Hyundai's manufacturing issues. Love the styling and everything else, but what's a cool looking car that's undrivable?! Not a happy camper.

Super gas milage
I've had my 21 SE for about 6 months. It's been dead reliable and runs good in the heat or way cold. I've already got almost 12000 miles on it. It gets over 40 mpg and at 6 ft 4 it's comfortable for me.heat and air work great. I love the cvt trans which has 3 modes and can be shifted manuly also. I owned a 1966 olds Tornado and the styling of this car reminds me of that car. I love the look. I live in Oklahoma on route 66 and there are large grasshoppers in warm weather that sit on the road. I noticed at about 2000 miles the hoppers were damaging the ac condenser when they went through the grill. I dropped the inspection shield under the front bumper and made a custom condenser guard out of rabbit wire and it keeps them from damaging the condenser. I'm 68 years old and drive the car about 80 miles a day to work and back. I can only say I love the car

Virtually Perfect Car at Price Point
What shoppers should know is Hyundai has come a long way - especially the perception of those in their mid 30s, 40s, plus. The 2021 Hyundai Elantra is much larger than previous years. To me, this does not feel like a compact car. It feels like a regular, mid size vehicle. When I went to the dealership, I traded in a 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT... which had the leather heated seats, panoramic sunroof, Bluetooth, etc. I loved that car and had no issues for the 4 years I owned it other than new tires, routine maintenance, and replacement of a bearing. Now, back to the 2021 Elantra. I went in for the 21 Elantra SE because their was a “deal” going on. After running all the numbers, the 2021 Elantra SEL (a grade up) was actually cheaper after the rebates, etc. I selected the 2021 Elantra SEL in the electric shadow color with black rims, black interior. The color is stunning and this car aesthetically beats Honda, Toyota, etc. This is a sporty looking vehicle that I think has a timeless design. What you get in the SEL is ehh on the horsepower. I actually don’t know the exact horsepower but the pickup is quick - unlike my Elantra GT. Other features in the SEL is Normal, Sport, and Smart Drive mode. Unlike my GT, Sport mode in this vehicle does something. When you select this option the RPMs go up and the car definitely is in a sport mode as far as speed and handling. Sport mode in my GT? If I’m not mistaken, it only made the steering wheel feel sporty... doing nothing to make the car faster, etc. Other features of this car is a large infotainment screen. You can use CarPlay/ Apple play without plugging your phone in. I love the gear shift. My car is remote start (no key) + black button outside of vehicle. At night as you approach the vehicle, the handles will illuminate. What else you get outside of the SE, is dual climate control. Across all models I believe auto headlights, Bluetooth, hands free texting, you can change channel. One thing I love is that this car actually not only keeps you in the lanes but if you have these 2 options on the car will essentially drive itself, and make turns accurately. The car warns you if you aren’t paying attention if the car in front of you begins to move. It alarms you if cars get to close. Rear back up camera. The trunk is huge and roomy backseat. The seats fold down completely at at 180 degrees. Overall I love this car at the SEL level. The take always are aesthetics, quick pick up, the safety features, mid size car feel. I also noticed there is basically no blind spots in this vehicle. They have also hid the exhaust pipes which is very appealing. There is a backup camera included, pretty standard. My final thoughts. Hyundai is a strong brand with a strong future ahead of them. This shows in their cars. I would 100% recommend this vehicle for your teenager to someone in their 40s.

Lots of electronic gimmicks..CVT Good or Bad?
The car looks fantastic. However, I have a hard time adjusting to the digital gauges...They are essentially virtual fake gauges and I think they look somewhat cheap...The rest of the display is quite futuristic. Now about the CVT transmission. This is the big conundrum about the car long-term. Will this transmission hold up, or will it fail prematurely and plague the car as a high risk vehicle that can fail prematurely because of the CVT going bad. Only time will tell and personally I feel that we are all a test bed for a potentially weak transmission. We will see!
