Me & My Elantra
Since my last review, I have put considerable mileage on the car, including about 3,500 miles on two road trips during the month of June again exceeding 40 MPG on the highway for the most part. But for routine maintenance, this automobile has exceeded all expectations so far as reliability & performance is concerned, although I will likely "trade up" to a new Elantra before the end of the year. Hyundai continues to improve its entire lineup year after year. And its customers are the beneficiaries of those improvements Am most pleased.

Ideal Commuter Car for the Larger Guy
I bought mine two weeks ago after conducting extensive research on commuter vehicles to relinquish my diesel pickup to pure recreational status (I tow a trailer). I commute 74 miles per day to and from work and had been using my wife's Mazda 6 for a number of months. I'm a larger (250 lbs, 5'11") guy so I have a hard time getting into compact cars, so I really didn't enjoy commuting using my wife's car. I found that I could easily get into and out of this car! The form and fit were perfect for the commute and I believe this car would also be great for long-distance travel and bluetooth connection is perfect when I'm on conference calls. I'm seeing 36 mpg average and it's increasing.

Great Car for Daughter College Bound
Get a 4 door. I bought a 2 door for my daughter because I thought it was "cool", found out 4 door better, even for her, dealer let me switch to a comparable 4 door. I have bought cars from this Used Car Dealer, now my friend, since 1989. He finds the cleanest, low mileage cars around. This 2013 Elantra had 9,500 miles when I bought 4 months ago. Now, under 11,000 miles. It has leather, seat warmers, blue tooth for phone, sunroof, great back seat leg room and huge trunk for my daughter's guitar, amp and equipment. I paid $13,800 for the car. Do not tell on me, but while test driving it on the Interstate, I punched it and the car went quickly to 120 miles per hour. It sips gas. I usually do not get extended warranties, but for a few bucks, I got a 100,000 mile, cover everything warranty and my daughter has to make one phone call if anything goes wrong. This should last her through college and beyond. I am very pleased. By the way, it has a snappy design that is an eye catcher. This is a great car. Now after almost a year later, still very happy with the car. No issues whatsoever. I drove it while my own "Real Man Tahoe" was in the shop, on a short 130 mile trip. It is a pleasure on the Interstate. Stable, feels safe and plenty of punch to pass in a hurry. At one point, I had 3 others in the car and there was plenty of back room leg room. The tire air pressure is a little sensitive and will come on if you are only 2 psi above or below the recommended amount. I actually like that vs. checking tire pressure often. I have never checked the mileage myself, but I know I drove 130 miles on less than $12!

I would not buy another Hyundai Elantra
I purchased this car new in August of 2013 with 16 miles on the odometer. At 11,000 miles the driver's seat rail failed and had to be replaced under the warranty. Now at 20,000 miles the front driver's side ball bearings have failed, leaving me stranded on the side of the road. Road side assistance was amazing, but I found it very hard to get a Hyundai dealer to take the car. None of the dealers would offer me a courtesy car or rental. I had to find my own ride. The car is now fixed and back on the road, but needs a tire balance and alignment, which was affected during the repairs. The dealership said they are not responsible for this. My overall thoughts about the car, very sporty looking car, handles well, good gas mileage, reliable engine, I like the technology package, but very poor components aka powertrain and poor interior quality.

NOT A CIVIC 4 SURE
Read the owners manual thoroughly. It is not a Corvette or Mustang. And, it certainly is not a civic. I traded in my 2008 Honda Civic for my 2013 Hyundai Elantra GSL. Most noticeable difference was the roominess. Second difference is I got 43.3 MPG w/A/C on, ECO engaged and cruise control engaged on a trip from Dothan, AL to Panama City, FL. However, use your foot on the accelerator and use Jack rabbit starts, and yes you'll only get 28 or so MPG. As for road noise, if you want to reduce It get rid of the dealer supplied tires which are the cheapest at best and put on some Goodyear Comfortread or Micheline Defender tires, inflate to 32PSI and your road noise will go away. If your Elantra GSL didn't come with a spare tire kit, order one from wholesalehyudaiparts.com and save 35%. I ordered mine. Other then the above, the Hyundai Elantra GLS can provide years of great driving.

2013 Elantra is Fantastic
Our 2013 Elantra GLS is now a week old and has 400 miles on the odometer. After dealer problems (I don't want a blue one!!!). We finally bought our silver one literally right off the truck from a different dealer. The styling both interior and exterior is fantastic. Inside it seems to be about the same size as our 2002 Sonata. It has a lot of cubby holes and places to stow stuff. The sound system sounds great: XM, IPOD, AUX & CD. (It even has AM/FM!) Air conditioning is cold and on the 4th fan setting is downright breezy. Heated seats are the only difference between the 2012 and the 2013. THE GAS MILEAGE IS AWESOME! Averaged 40.2 mpg on the highway on a short trip. (Loaded, no a/c)
Very Nice Car
I purchased a 2013 in 2015 after looking into a Veloster. I found the Elantra to be the best bang for the buck. I have owned over 20 cars in my life and I feel the Elantra rate right at the top for all around buy. I bought the Limited with the Technology package and it is truly a small "luxury" car. Read the Edmunds review for all of the options and you will see it lacks little. I would give it a higher score on the fun to drive factor because I look for windy roads to drive. My car happens to be Hyundai Certified and that is what you should look for , just to be smart. My wife has a loaded hybrid Kia Optima and she enjoys driving the car as much as I do. Oh, the car was built in Alabama.
Best car ever
I owned a Hyundai before and found it to be a comfortable and dependable vehicle. After owning other brands I am glad I came back. The car is still under warranty with 35,000 miles left. The tech package is everything I could want.

153k strong with no problems
I bought this car in May 2013 and have since been driving it up and down the Nj turnpike with mostly highway but some city driving. This car has given me on average 41 mpg for my commute which helped the car pay for itself compared to my BMW getting me 23 on the commute. Along with that I have never spent anything other than regular maintenance on this car. I followed the factory schedule religiously and did all maintainence myself and today my car has over 150k and it is not leaking oil or making any noises. I drive people in my car and when I tell them it has 150k they are astonished because of how much it feels like a new car. I am now looking at changing the rear shocks as they have gotten a little bouncy overtime. But that is completely normal for a car that has reached its half life. I intend to drive this car till 300k and I don’t think I’ll have any issues getting there.

Very Pleased
I do not understand negative reviews about gas mileage! The LOWEST we have gotten is 32.5. We live in an extremely hilly area.....rural, lots of stops, starts, slow down for curves and accelerating on steep hills. On the hwy., we get over 38 mpg. We previously owned a Ford Focus and a Chevy Impala (which I hated!) and the Hyundai Elantra Limited is way above and beyond both vehicles. The ride is so much quieter and smoother. The features in the Limited surpass the Ford Focus by miles!
Follow Up Review: I wouldn't do it again!
Sadly, my experience with my car since my last review has soured me on it. I originally purchased it in June of 2012. In the last year, I have experienced multiple issues which make me question the long-term reliability, quality and engineering of this car. My issue with intermittent rough idle continues unabated, whether using or not using the a/c. It is clearly not an engine load issue. As well, now the transmission has developed an absolutely maddening metallic clicking sound intermittently when accelerating from a stop, or a roll, and sometimes when letting off the throttle. There is also a tick in the engine when it hasn't fully warmed up. This car is a "good looker" with a black heart.
Good Car in Need of a Suspension!
My wife and I purchased our Elantra GLS in late June of 2012. So far the car has required nothing other than routine maintenance in the 8,200 miles we've driven it. Our main reason for purchasing this car was to obtain good fuel economy, and good value. It replaced a 2003 Honda Accord 4 cylinder that was burning a quart of oil every 700 miles with only 86,000 miles on it! The best I've seen using the cruise control on the highway (65 mph) is about 33 mpg, which is lower than we expected. In NYC traffic, the fuel economy has dipped to as low as 16 mpg. This is disappointing. Hyundai has promised to reimburse us for the fuel economy shortfall as has been widely reported.
Happy with my purchase!
I previously owned a 2005 Elantra and was so happy with it that I stuck with Hyundai. Right off the bat, you can tell the appearance was really stepped up from prior model--and even compared to other cars in class. It looks very sleek and sporty, making it look more expensive than it really is. Additionally, the actual gas mileage (while admittedly a complaint of many reviewers) is still an improvement over previous models. Elantras used to be less fuel-efficient than Honda Civics but now they are equal. That was one reason I opted out of the Civic this time. I have reached the 1000 mile mark and so far I am averaging 33 mpg. Broken down, I get 20-25 mpg city, and 35-40 mpg highway.
Sleek All Around
I purchased the 2013 Hyundai Elantra Limited the end of May (owned 2.5 mos) & have 4000 miles on it. 30 city/38-43 hwy. So far, the only concerns I have are the paint quality and road noise. Hyundai offers a package for a coat of protectant for the paint & windows for almost $3000 more, which may have been nice to have purchased. My car has already had 3 dings from parked cars & it has chipped the paint. Concerning the road noise: it is smooth until hitting rough road or block chunks on the interstate. Another noise is on the roof when it rains. Sounds like water hitting tin. The sunroof cover helps w/noise.
So far so good. Excellent value
If luck continues this will be one of my best car purchases. Bought with 11k on odomoter and previous owner changed oil every 3k. Car looked and smell like new, literally flawless. Paid $ 12,200 at dealer. Seemed like a great deal compared to lesser kept Hondas and Toyotas. We usually only buy Honda and Toyotas but this was a second car and we just really liked it. The intertior feels higher quality than our Toyota Venza which cost over 30K new. It rides great and has all the latest tech. The gas mileage is phenom!

What the Elantra is really Like (very good overall)
Overall, this is a very good car. Your view of this car will vary depending on what type of vehicle you are coming out of. You need to take a good test drive of the Elantra before making a final decision. The materials in the car are on level with an economy car but the styling overshadows some of the hard plastics. The fit and finish are on par with cars at least a class up. There is no other car that packs the value of the Elantra. As a package daily driver, you cannot go wrong with the Elantra GLS w/preferred pkg.
Just an amazing car
I traded in my 2007 Civic. The Elantra so much more car for the money as I test drove a new Civic as well.
Great car
I have 2,780 miles on the car I boght in Oct./12. My mpg was between 24 and 32 since I bought the car until today when I got 38.1 mpg. I'm noticing that as the car breaks in, the mpg is getting higher and the performance is getting better. It's a little bumpy on uneven streets or highway, but I can overlook that aspect of the car because of the great price and features this car has. I took 3 weeks researching and nothing came close to the Elantra GLS in price and features. Great car! I'll keep updating my reviews as time goes on.
My little Korean
I have my Elantra since 2013. So far I only got 16500 miles on it, and it has been running fine. MPG's on the highway is great, I see upper 30's and a few times over 40. It is not a race car, the 1.8 does not have a lot of torque. I never use the ECO mode since it makes the car feel slower, and forces up shifts. I am sure some people will like it, but it makes the car even more dull to me. Half a year ago a lady nicely decided to crash test it by hitting me with her Isuzu Trooper. The poor Elantra crumpled as intended and i got out without a scratch, though in need of a new front end. The stock tires are terrible, I can't wait to wear them down a little more and buy some proper ones. The car is roomy, easily sits four people. I am 6 foot 4 and have no issues being comfortable in the front. Very good trunk space too. Buy a spare tire if you want the safety, it is not included.

My Favorite Car I Ever Owned
First time I saw the redesigned Elantra, I knew I wanted one. I'd had two older Elantra previously and they were good cars. I bought a 2013 used with 26K miles. It was going to be my car for the next 10 or more years. As long as possible. But, sadly it was rear ended and declared a total loss at 85k miles. Anyway, it was a wonderful car. It had amazing mpg's. I could get up to 44 mpg but averaged about 38 as I did a fair amount of mixed city/highway driving. It was stylish, reliable, and super cheap to maintain. It had everything. I kept up with regular maintenance, like oil changes, etc. Only had brakes done once, and bought one set of tires to replace the factory tires it had when I bought it. Only problem it ever had was an airbag light came on, but that was covered by the 100k mile warranty! Car was great to drive, enough power for the highway and good grip on the road. Interior was very roomy and comfortable. Trunk was huge! If you are looking for a great value and a car you can enjoy looking at, I recommend the Elantra. I'll be getting another one!

Was a great car (at first)
I bought this car brand new in Oct 2012. I thought it was striking and loved the colors scheme in and out. I was amazed with fuel economy from the git go. I had a 2011 Mazda 2 which got around 32 mpg and was a much smaller car. It got totalled from a sandwich between a Cavalier and an Explorer on I-95 near Richmond VA. I used the car as a courier which was driven 250 miles per day. 40+ mpg was typical on my run cruising at 65 mph. I always got over 400 miles out of a full tank. The Bad: Engine knock after about 50k. Car sounded like it had no oil in it. Interior wear was horrible. Paint came off steering wheel center, seats scotchguarded still stained from hardly anything. Radio issues.
Just Great
I do not understand any of these complaints. The engine might not be out of a Viper, but it has no issue getting up to speed or passing a slower car. I have a heavy foot and I still stay around 35mpg. I do notice a bit more road noise then I expected but I think that may be the tires. $20,000 buck and I get and auto, bluetooth, heated seats, sat radio good ride, peppy engine, and it is a good looking car. It is family time here and we bought a Tuscon. We like the car and the dealership so much (which i have never said before) we went back and purchased the Elantra. Just a great car and a great value. And did I mention at the touch of a button music streams from my phone?
Best small car I've ever owned
I got this Elantra, after a 2011 Accent saved my life when I got T-boned by a Buick at 50 mph. The driver's side of the Accent blew the front end of the Buick apart. This is my 3rd Hyundai. Excellent car, that does simply everything well. The navigation system is fantastic, and easy to use. The audio system is tops, and the Bluetooth system works great. Front and rear heated seats- the front seats are among the most comfortable I've ever been in. Stable, reliable, and wonderful on the highway. As with most small cars, extra road noise. I get 28-30 driving around town, and have achieved 38-40 on trips. I use the ECO setting constantly. Cruise works well, and the controls are all well-designed. No wonder this was the North American car of the year in 2012.

Great car and gas mileage
This is my 4th Hyundai. Checked Gas mileage today on 120mi R/T...Temp 49deg Wind N20G30 mph...fairly level highway with speed limit varing 70 to 75 mph. Results northbnd 37.3MPG and southbnd..(tailwind). 43.3.For entire trip speed control set to speed limit. Checked by adding fuel and dividing miles and also the trip cmptr. Trip cmptr off by 2 tenths. actual mileage better. All of my previous Hyundai cars (2 Sonatas 1 Accent and now this one have easily exceeded the sticker mileage. Its not the car its HOW it is driven. Great car all around ..

Six years and counting
Ultimately I love the car! I bought the Elantra because the shifting seemed tremendously smoother compared to its competitors and it had extra perks that didn't cost an extra arm and leg (ie. Bluetooth capability, seat warmers, etc.). It spacious, easy to clean, and runs great six years later. I'm usually hauling around soccer equipment in the trunk (Two goals, soccer ball bag, and mini goals) everywhere I go and all fits relatively comfortably. The only cons that I've found with this car is the cabin noise and a little electrical glitch in my steering wheel controls. The glitch is probably just a bad connection in the steering wheel, but the cabin noise is definitely more noticeable as the car ages. The combined MPG has also gone down as the car ages but that's to be expected with aging of parts. Still runs great!

Excellent car for the money
Traded a 2004 Sonata and this car is just as comfortable as the Sonata. Very comfortable and supportive seats. Performance is great and the milage for a car that is not broken in yet varies from 33 mpg to 42 mpg.
THIS CAR IS SUCH A FUN DRIVE!
I love driving this car. I've been using it for my commute to work, and I average a combined 34-39 mph, well above the 33 they've rated. In Los Angeles no less! For all the people complaining about low mileage, if you drive in stop-and-go in the city a lot, your mileage will suffer. You have to actually reset your MPG on the highway to get the magic 40. As long as you don't have a lead foot, you'll easily hit the 30s and higher. I get 43 mpg exclusively on the highway, doing about 80-85% hwy driving. If you can drive 40-55, you'll probably get even better. I actually ENJOY driving to work because I love driving this car!
Very good car... Except....
I've owned this car for almost 7 months so far. At 16K miles the brakes started to make a strange noise, I thought that it must be due to the extreme cold temperatures we've been having. NOPE, at 17k miles I'm being told that my brakes need service, and guess what it's out of pocket! Never mind that this car is driven 80% highway with limited use of brakes (no heavy traffic). Dealer treats this as NORMAL. I've had a Mazda3 which only needed brakes every 60Kmiles. At this rate I'll be changing brakes every 8 months! Very poor design Hyundai. You may have just lost a(nother) customer. **UPDATE** 3.5 years into the ownership and over 100,000 miles on the clock now. Brakes SOMETIMES make a thunk thunk noise - this braking at all speeds, whether in the city or highway, it's just louder on the highway but it seems to be dependent on which way the last sharp turn was made. More research needed here (by me). Fuel economy reduced slightly by use of new winter tires. Can't wait to get some summers on shortly for a) a quieter ride and b) improved fuel economy. The loss is about 5-8%. A few creaks and groans are audible now, especially when it's freezing outside. The colder it gets the more the dash area seems to protest, almost like the bits are expanding/contracting at slightly different rates thus causing friction where there is none at warmer temperatures. UPDATE #2 I traded in the car at 214,000km (134000miles). Received very little in trade due to the mileage, that was expected. I traded in due to a slight ticking coming from the engine. Upon some googling I discovered that only bad things follow once the ticking starts. Car (and engine) was probably good for another few years or 50000miles I would guess but I had a chance at picking up something (so much more) exciting I just could not say no. During all this time (5 years of ownership) I've only had minor gripes with the brakes as read above - performed two "brake services" at shops and when I was trading it in the brakes were fine. I had the sunroof switch replaced under warranty as it was acting up. Other than that there was nothing other than regular maintenance done on the car, mostly simple oil changes, a few tire changes, coolant flush and transmission oil replacement (once). So over all the miles this car was driven, from an expense standpoint it was very good. It started every morning and took me home every night. I was never worried that I would be stranded somewhere. If you can pick one up for a reasonable price, as they drop in value quite drastically still compared to Honda/Toyota even though you get so much more for your money (go figure) go for it. They are kind of slow in acceleration however the Corolla will be exactly the same with the Civic being slightly quicker (we're talking slightly). Overall it's a good value but the thousands of hours spent behind the wheel and the ticking starting made me want a new(er) car.

I love my 2013 Elantra limited except....
I bought my 2013 limited elantra sept in 2012. I have had no major issues with my car at all. I love the exterior, interior and the ride and comfort. It is a little road noisy but I am used to it and listen to my radio loud anyways. I currently have 90k miles and have had 1 issue which was the transmission temperature sensor error which caused the feeling of the trans going out. I took it to the dealer and it was covered under warranty and was fixed, no problems other than wear and tear. The continental tires the car came with were crap so I bought Perrelli p7 all season tires and it helped tremendously with gripping the road. I would not suggest this car in areas where it snows as it becomes a sled with any type of snow on the ground. Other than that, this vehicle has been great to me. Still like new!

Big Value Car
Purchased summer 2014 and was last 2013 on the lot. Bought it for $7K off sticker. Has everything I wanted equipment-wise. Nearly 40K miles now with absolutely no trouble. Only drawbacks are marginal power and some road noise at freeway speed. Not one rattle so far. All electronics, including navigation and upgraded stereo, have been flawless. When I calculate mpg, it has been 1-2 less than advertised, but I do drive faster than 65 on the freeway by 5-10 mph. I'm about ready to replace OEM tires which have been OK, but likely won't get the same brand---Hankook. All in all I have absolutely no complaints. If still true in another 40K miles I would say it's one of the best new cars I've purchased. Most of them have been Toyota Camrys. 4/17/18 update: I sold the Elantra at 61000 miles. All of the above still applied when I sold it. No complaints about the car. It may be the best car I've ever purchased. The only reason I traded it in was I got a great deal on a new 2017 Sonata Limited with all the safety features.

2013 Elantra GT
Great car. Just traded in for a 2017 on a three year lease. Very few complaints. A good value car. The Pearl blue finish was quite attractive. It's not a Ferrari, and I think people expect a bit too much in terms of acceleration, etc. A competent car that never let me down.
Love My Hyundai!
This is me second Elantra (other one was a 2008 my daughter-in-law bought from me) and it has been amazing. I love how it handles, the comfortable seating - front and back - plus the gas mileage. I am definitely a big fan of Hyundai.

Badly worn rear tires, fishtailing and slipping since day 1
How do I get the dealership to acknowledge this issue? Both rear tires are extremely worn and cupping causing a deafening roar on the inside of the car. The rear slips and fishtails over bumps in the road (regardless of whether we are going 35 or 60 mph). I thought it was something we needed to get used to, but after much research we realize there is a serious issue. Finally took the car in yesterday to Rick Case Hyundai and the service tech told me it was normal because the rear axle is a solid fixed axle so it cannot be out of line and that the fishtailing/slipping is just because the car is lightweight. Rear tires are visibly pigeon towed and roll slightly inward.
After 21K Miles Update
Been 18 months since I bought this car for commuting. Have seen a large number of negative reviews about this car so I thought that an effort to balance the scale was in order. Is it the greatest ever?...No, but it is rock solid and does what it is supposed to do. My observations at the 20K mile point: - Gas mileage = never been below 32mpg regardless of driving habit, season, hills, etc. On freeway, it easily surpasses 40mpg. - Electronics = Stock sound system better than average and much better than the crappy JBL system in my wife's Highlander limited. - Road noise/bumps = Yes, it is noisy and you feel every bump but it is an economy car. Have not seen the issues presented here.
The undisputed champion in the compact car segment
After test driving every other 2012/2013 compact car and doing months of researching (lawyers love researching) I ended up purchasing a 2013 Elantra GLS with the preferred package and 8 miles on the odometer for $20,600.00 (out the door). My miles per gallon with the econ button off and the a/c on are always in the high 30's. The cabin is quieter and the base sound system is better than the Civic, Corolla, Cruze, Focus and Mazda 3. The truck is huge (for lack of a better word). The truck is bigger than my wives 2008 Acura TL 4 door. The steering is so light one turn turn the steering wheel using one finger. Engine power is on par with every other compact car in this class.
Engine stinks
2011-2014 Hyundais have terrible engines. They skipped a step while making them and metal shavings get into the oil and subsequently cause the engine to tick, knock and then it's ruined. It's engines called nu-engines. They will fail at different mileages. Ours failed around 106,000. The problem is if you replace the engine you're just replacing it with another faulty engine. Hyundai is not doing what it should and the dealer, Adamsons, in Rochester didn't help. We've owned two Hyundai's previously and they were very dependable. Due to this one vehicle I will never buy another Hyundai. They should've made it right.

ABS problems in ice due to cheap tires
As a whole, I like this car. It has a very comfortable driving position for someone my size (6'3"), gets good gas mileage (though not what was advertised), is reasonably quiet and has this nice extended warranty. I have noticed a couple of significant problems, however, one of which is dangerous. But first, for the false sales pitch. The sales person will tell you that the oil only needs to be changed every 7500 miles. That was one of the selling points to me. But the manual has all sorts of fine print around that figure, so the actual service guys will tell you that you may void the warranty unless you change the oil around every 5000. So don't get caught in that trap. see below The safety is rated as lower due to the cheap tires, no traction in snow and ice. So the ABS keep coming on, but not much help. Once I replaced the tires, however, it was much better. Only one unexpected repair in the first 80,000 miles, one of the spark plugs (should have lasted over 100,000) The main reason why I might not get another Hyundai is because of the way the company has handled the "refund" for overstating the MPG on the window stickers. First, they try to cheap out by rounding down the average mileage rather than up. That cut my supposed refund in half. But it's also been seven years and I still haven't gotten the supposed refund. When I call Hyundia (once every couple of years), a recorded message always say it's wrapped up in the courts. But if they were willing to offer a decent refund, I'm sure the courts would have approved it long ago. So the bottom line: I no longer trust the company. That was also reinforced by games the local dealer would play. For example, I realized that I had to know the owners manual, they would try to tell me that it was time for expensive routine maintenance when such maintenance was still 10's of thousands of miles away. But I don't know if that's routine for their dealers or just my local one. I'd note that the mileage I've estimated is based on E-10 fuel, which has a bit less power than regular gas. I get better mileage without the ethanol.

Mileage and Feature as Advertized
My wife and I were looking for a commuter car that had navigation, leather and a sunroof. We considered and test drove the Mazda 3, Escort, Civic, Cruze, and the Elantra Limited. We evaluated features, price, comfort, power, styling, warranty, gas mileage and build quality. When using our criteria, the Elantra was the clear winner. We have 1,500 miles on the car and are averaging 33 mpg in mixed driving. You will get 40+ on the highway. As previous reviews said, the road noise can be loud at times; however, on a smooth road, it is of normal volume. All in all, you will not be disappointed with this purchase. Hyundai has come a long way in a short period of time.
Listen...I'm serious
I've driven many Corollas for the mpg...after putting in a K&N filter I now get 40+ mpg with the a/c on at 70+ mph...mine is a CPO vehicle at 37K when I bought her and I have babied her ever since...now at 94K she still runs exactly as the day I bought her. I read somewhere else these motors are extremely outstanding...the guy was right. Make damn sure sure yours wade made in Korea and not Alabama!!!
Exceptional Value
I purchased an Elantra GLS with the Preferred Package about a month ago. After extensive shopping, even with very little off the MSRP (this car is in high demand) the Elantra really does represent an exceptional value and in my opinion just outclasses the competition in terms of features and styling. I was concerned that it wouldn't have much pep since the engine is on the small side but it is more than adequate and I haven't yet had the sensation of it being particularly under-powered.
Great value!
I just bought my Elantra GLS a few days ago and so far I'm extremely satisfied. I got the idea of buying a Hyundai because my sister just purchased a Sonata and I thought it was a really nice car for the price. The Sonata is a little too big for what I need and I love the gas milage the Elantra has. I am really suprised at how many options you get for the price. I couldn't decide between the limited or the GLS but I'm not a big fan of moon roofs. I didn't see the value on the limited so I found a GLS with the preferred Pkg and that was great! The car handles well and drives great.
I will never buy Hyundai again!!!
I'm so disappointed in my purchase of my 2013 Elantra. I had Volkswagans before and I loved them but was tired of dropping money after they hit about 100k and thought let me buy a "reliable" and "responsible" car. The only 2 pros I have are the outside appearance I still like and the gas mileage. The cons. I have 22k miles on this car and it hasn't been running too good. I get my oil changes and don't drive a long commute at all. It been running bad lately so thinking its such a new car and their "amazing" warranty everything should be covered. They are telling me I need to replace the PCV valve already and that is why my car got stuck at 40 mph on the freeway. and its not covered.
Disappoints
Bought the elantra 6 months ago. Car noise is significant. My chevy cobalt was much quieter. Have the rough idling when I come to a stop. This is a common issue. On the plus side I get good gas mileage and enjoy heated front seats. I will never purchase a Hyundai vehicle again.

Overall great car!
Performance -- Feels a bit sluggish at low RPMs, but that gets you the high mpg, but pushing it up into the higher RPMs gives you plenty of performance, and the sports mode helps me keep in the RPM range I want without having to get a fully manual car. Comfort -- I feel as comfortable in this as I do in a Buick, but I don't feel like I'm driving a boat! Value -- For a "more full" sedan with packed features, it's great value! But if I were buying for myself, I find it hard justifying spending more on the Elantra vs. the Accent. Fun: It's not really fun, but it gets you point A to point B wonderfully. Design: A bit funky, but looks modern and advanced. Interior is more subtle. Quality: A+
Disappointing in the end
When researching which new car to purchase, the deciding factors in the end were that I had an Elantra for 12 years and it was very reliable, and I wanted a car with decent gas mileage. So far it's been reliable, though a few small things have failed already. But the gas mileage is just plain terrible. If I had known, I would have gotten the car I really wanted that had weaker gas mileage instead! UPDATE: Got rid of the car after 3 years, and I usually like to keep my cars for a decade. The road noise was awful, and even three years later my daughter kept getting headaches from the smell of it. I couldn't smell anything, but clearly she is more sensitive to off-gassing than I (we had the leather, maybe cloth is better). Also, getting my son into a rear facing car seat was nearly impossible. It was like threading a needle to get him in and I just hated it. Traded it in on a used 2013 Toyota Venza and am SOOO happy I did! This car is great for the right person, but not for someone who wants good gas mileage, a quiet ride, or with small children.

Fun to drive, high maintenance costs
Purchased used with 60k this year. Unfortunately 60k is the cut-off for 2nd owner warranty so don't purchase without warranty. So far this car has cost more in repairs than my two other cars (03 Toyota matrix and 06 Dodge Stratus) combined. So far two bad wheel bearings, ac compressor making loud noises, replaced battery, alternator is starting to fail (lights are flickering at idle) has intermittent rough idle, and the power seat controls work intermittently. No complaints on gas mileage gets about the same as my matrix (average around 33-35 mixed driving) . The car is fun to drive but a little noisy. Bluetooth system keeps trying to pair phone when not active.

I love this car
I have had this car for 3 weeks and I love it. I was trying to choose between Mazda 3, Honda Civic, Ford, Kia, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Corolla , Nisan... and few othes... At the end I had to pich between Honda Cic and Elantra - and I chose the Elantra. So I saved $3,000 , got a better looking car, more leg space, much better warranty , 5 years of road side assistance, 2 years of free oil change. The quality is great it drives great- feels very sporty.
40 MPG is disappointing
Bought this vehicle in August for its 40 mpg hiway rating as I travel 50 miles one way to work daily. I now have 3500 miles on this vehicle and the best fuel mileage I have gotton is 33.9 mpg traveling 65 mph on the hiway to and from work daily. With 9 fillups the mileage has ranged from 31.0 to 33.9 mpg. The dealership salesman has said that its not broken in yet and the mileage should get better as more miles are put on it. I have my doubts at this time that will happen. Other than the mileage issues, I have not had any other issues with this vehicle. It drives and handles beautifully.
leased the car...loved it
What a great car. It surprised me and got 40+ mpg on the highway. No major repair issues. starting to now need tires and brakes at just under 40,000 miles after having the car for 3.5 years. Great seats. Blue tooth technology hands free worked great including voice texting. I'd keep it if it wasn't time to return it to home. Def considering another Elantra. For the fuel economy, price, loaded with features, it's a great car that surpasses others in its field.
