Handles better than our Honda Civic, very quiet for that price range. Have had zero problems so far.

My Elantra is one of the best cars I have ever owned at any price. It is comfortable for long trips, gets excellent fuel economy, feels solid, and is pretty reliable. This is one of the few cars I have owned that shines for long distance driving comfort. The car has quality materials except for the paint on the wheels. The wheels showed surface rust after less than two years and had to be repainted. I also had to have the exhaust "down" pipe replaced twice under warranty. It starts fo leak and gets noisy. Otherwise, no problems or complaints. My car is approaching 50000 miles and I still love it. Fuel economy is 34-40 mpg.

Relatively Reliable and Good Car

I have 47K miles with the GLS five- speed manual transmission hatchback, and I haven't had any problem with the clutch or engine. Both have been maintained on a regular basis, usually a few hundred miles over every 3000. However, I did have to get the rear brakes replaced at 30K. But this because I was a little abusive with the parking brake while driving. Immaturity I guess. Everything else has been great, but the tape deck needed to be replaced with a more digital deck because of an electrical short at 45K miles. Overall, you gotta be realistic that this isn't going to drive like any type of high end roadster, however I have been impressed with the handling and gas mileage 28-35 usually.

This car is very fuel efficient, is extremely dependable, and comfortable to drive and ride in. I haven't had to have any work done to it - only scheduled oil changes, etc.

Let me just say that this has been a GREAT first car. I received this car as a hand me down from a careless previous owner who neglected it to the fullest. After giving it some much needed TLC and replacing many worn out parts, she was ready to take on the road again. Never once left me stranded. The engine is small and not very powerful, but is well built and can last a long time. Can’t say the same about the transmission; it is very fragile and needs to be taken extreme care of. Sadly, the transmission needed a full rebuild at 120k miles, but I’m sure a lot of this was due in part to the carelessness of the previous owner. The car now has 160k and shows no sign of wearing out. Maintenance was pretty inexpensive, but the car does use a timing belt and since the engine is an interference engine, the belt needs to be replaced every 60k. This is an expensive job and was my only real gripe with the car. If you are looking for an inexpensive vehicle, I highly recommend this one. I’d say it is comparable in reliability to Honda and Toyota. The only reason I’m parting with this car is I need a bigger vehicle and was ready for something newer. I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase one of these vehicles again.

I love my 2005 elantra. I've had it for 3 years now. Changed a few things here and there. For 217500 on the dash. She runs like a dream

I was looking for a car a few years ago, a car that's fast, compact, low price tag, good warranty, comfortable and most especially, reliable then that's where the Hyundai Elantra came in, for the past few years now, I've not visited the mechanic which makes it a perfect car for me

Recently purchased an 05 Elantra. Having owned 6 n 8 cylinder vehicles most of my life I'm definitely beyond happy with the mpg and overall low gas consumption of this car especially given the high gas prices. Acceleration is good and everything like AC/heat/lights/etc works on the car. Driving is not the most comfortable but good enough as a daily driver. Super easy to work on this car, did a full tune up and oil change in no time. Only thing I found out was the fuel filter is located with the fuel pump which is the only thing I didnt like but overall plenty of space to work on most things in this car. Overall happy with the car and looking forward to keeping it for a long time

I bought this car with around 45k miles to use as a runaround for a few years. I’m at about 150k plus now and wouldn’t sell it for the world. I have never owned a more reliable car. With consistent regular maintenance, it’s been amazing. It had even been in a few wrecks prior to my purchasing it!

I bought this car in july of 2020, for $695 at a Mazda dealership. It had 233 000 km on it. Price had been reduced from $1195. I took a chance, was tired of shopping. After getting jerked around on safeties from three different garages, and also owing to the pandemic, I was on my way with a temporary plate sticker...four yrs later and the car has never failed to start, best battery I ever had in any of my previous seven cars, and I do deliveries so I'm starting the car 25 to 75 times a day, no joke! It now has 362 000 km on it! It cant be killed, I'm going for 401k!! It may outlive me

I traded my 02 Elantra GLS for an 05 Elantra GT 5dr. The GT rides a whole lot better because of the sport tuned suspension. Quality inside and out is excellent. I put 57,000 miles on my 02 Elantra without any problems and I expect the same for my 05. I love the style of the 05 GT 5dr. If your in the market, you really need to take a look at the Elantra and test drive one. You'll see the difference and also see how much money you'll be saving compared to the competition.

What a great car! I was going to replace my Accent with another Accent, but after seeing and driving the Elantra hatchback, I was hooked. I got out the door for only $13k, and that included a moonroof and CD player. Considering it was only $2200 more than a sparsely equipped Accent GT, it was an incredible bargain. Handles great, extremely comfortable, engine is smooth and powerful, transmission is silky. It's too early to tell about reliability, but if it's like my '01 Accent, it will be a gem. My first tankful of gas gave me 35 mpg (mostly highway driving). Stylish car!
