I love this car
Wonderful car! My first brand new car and i've had no complaints. It looks like its worth more than the 15G's its on the market for. Gotten so many complements and 'what kinda car is thats!?!?' It gets wonderful gas mileage (30 and up depending on how and where i drive it). I've had the car since May (now march) and I've had no problems and i've put almost 10G's on it. I'm so glad i picked this brand new car instead of a "better brand" used car. I had an excel years ago which was OK but had heard hyundai's gotten better and its true.
Move aside Honda
One of the nicest compacts out there. Rides better and has more room and pep than my Civic had. But my 3 negatives are: (1)Squeaks developed going slowly over speed bumps after 8 mos. (2)I have yet to get over 20 mpg and I drive slowly and do not accelerate suddenly. I do drive solely in town however. (3)The rear window fogs when it's rainy and humid unless the AC is full blast.
First Hyundai
Have only had ownership for 5 days, but I am very pleased with the way the vehicle handles and rides..It is a very very good buy for the money. My wife and I both enjoy the vehicle. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who asks.
red hyundai
it is a very dependable car, i have not had any problems with it. evrything works on the car the way it should, this was my first purchase of a new car.
Car on the budget that do what you need
I had a Kia Sorento EX 2005 and trade it for this little gas saver. I bought the Elantra with 24000 miles on it and now I had put 44000 miles on it without a problem. I had the car for 1 year and still going strong. I was driving 37 miles one way to work and I wasnt going to deal with the Kia Sorentos gas usage. So, I started looking for a compact car to save gas money. I started looking at Honda, Toyota and other import brand. After my research I decided to buy the Elantra due to price. I like the car so far, no problem what so ever. It has enough horse power to do what I need and the gas usage is great. I get 26-27 city and 30-33 freeway and mine is a automatic GLS.
Great Car to have
good reliable transportation with personality
Hyandai Elantra
The biggest problem I had with the car is the handling is slow, turns are wide, and curves you have to take slowly, mostly below the speed limit. Also the care dents very easily if you put your hand on the hood of the car and press down the metal will bend with your hand. You can have all the safety airbags in the world, but the car is made out of tin. The plus side of this car is it is great on gas I wouldn't have to fill my tank for over 2 weeks at a time.
My GT
I have mostly enjoyed my Elantra GT (we have another GT, and '03 model). I live in the mountains of West Virginia, and do a lot of driving due to working 45 miles away. My GT is fun to drive on the twisty roads, and returns excellent gas mileage. The stereo works great and keeps me entertained enroute. My only complaint is that I have some vibration on braking, due to warped brake rotors. I am surprised at this, with only 12,000+ miles.
What a gas
I have had my Elantra for 11,000 miles and are very pleased with performance. Especially fuel. Don't understand some other complaints on Edmunds about gas mileage as I get 36-37 on the open road. Went to Vermont and did almost 500 miles and still had just under 1/4 tank left. I have had trouble with rotor noise that the dealer fixed but now its back.
great auto
good handling,& comfort,winter & summer
Nice litlle car
Nice little city car. Very good interior space for its class. A powerful engine under its hood for its class. Good mileage in city and highway. Overall its a good reliable car.
What a deal !
For the money I don't think you can get a better deal with such good quality. I was so impressed with what you get that I am sure this is the best bang for the buck. The engine is the smoothest 4 cyl I have ever driven... bar none, something I never expected. Solid feel seems like a much bigger car. Be careful though, when on the highway you can easily get to 90 without noticing, thats how good the ride is and how zippy the motor is. Overall one of the best purchases I have ever made.
2005 Elantra GT - Ottawa, Canada
After 3 months of highway driving, there was a very noticeable vibration in the steering wheel at speeds greater than 100 Km/hr. The rack & pinion was replaced free of charge, but I was charged for an alignment. Two weeks later, the vibration was back. This time I was charged for a wheel re-balancing. The CD player was repaired three times in a year. The tires were bald after 40,000 Km. There is excessive brake and wind noise. The driver's front headlight bulb has been repalced twice in 40,000 km (I seldom drive at night, so only the running lights are on).
Great car for the price!!
I work construction, and this car is my "work truck" The hatchback comes in really handy for my tools....all in all, it is a great car for the price, and I have had no problems with it,
awesome car
I purchased my car over a year ago, and haven't had one problem yet. I love my car, this is the third hyundia that my family has owned. It's a great car and my family highly recommends it. It's the first car I personally have bought brand new. It's great for driving long distances.
Good Car
With 10 months of ownership/23,000 on the odometer (yes, it's quite a commute), car has done everything we've expected. Avg'ing 35 mpg on the highway. Not shabby. Sufficient get up and go for merging/hwy passing. Outside of oil changes and the suggested 15k "checkup", car has not seen the dealership for anything other than the passenger seat recall (15 minute visit for recalibration). IOW, initial quality has been exceptional. Originally was crossing my fingers on this Korean product and hoping for the best (Had my doubts but the discounted pricing in comparison to the Japanese products reflected this) but Hyundai has dispelled these misgivings. Highly suggest car if "value" is high on list.
good
I like the price. Handles well.
GREAT LIL' CAR
This was my first new car and before I bought it I felt I had done a good job researching and it paid off. This car gets better gas mileage the listed in the epa estimates. I get 34 miles per gallon hmy and about 29 in city. It is quiet, smooth, comfortable, and has the space I have needed for moving things around, shopping etc. (I was able to fit my dishwasher at one point as well as a full sized treadmill in box). Good car, good price, good service at the dealership.
Better then expected
Bought new in 2005 equipped with abs/tcs and 5m. 70,000 miles at this time with no Major problems. Been twice in small accidents, repaired fast and inexpensive. Stereo and speakers not good enough for me, but not really bad. We drive the car mostly in suburban areas in upstate NY averaging 26-29 mpg, 32-38 mpg highways, depending on a drivestyle. Traction control combined with winter tires makes car driveable even during big snowstorms, no problems with snow so far. Also very good for long trips, seats are comfortable, driver`s with lumbar support, armrest in good position, roomy in back seats. Almost no rattles, over 3000 rpm you can hear the engine more, aerodynamic noise is low, good for money
Watch Out
quality of leather poor, color off on driver seat back within three months. replacement has same problem. dealership will not replace again. driver door weather seal poor. wore away within few months. replaced one time only. replacement worn out as well. same problem existed on 2002 elantra. replaced three times before trading car in.too many ordinary wear and tear answers. headlight and battery replaced under warranty. hyundai usa will not help. states that the district manager has last say. gas milage poor compared to other similar makes.
I'm a believer
I never thought in a million years I'd own a Hyundai, I looked at the Mazda, Toyota, Nissan and Ford before jumping on the Hyundai banwagon. I was impressed with the build and quality, not to mention the price and warranty. This has been the best vehicle I have ever purchased and I've owned almost every name brand out there at one time or another. I purchased a new 2005 Elantra GT for under $12G and can't believe how quite it drives on the highway, I averaged 38 MPG on a recent 1500 mile trip. I love it and proberly sold at least 5 of my friends on buying one.
Best small car out there
Bought this car new with only 13 miles on the odo. Now have logged 11,700 on it. Only had a couple of issues first being wiper blade had hardened and they replaced that free saying " Ya sun exposure tends to do that when blades aren't used on the lots. Sorry about that." Second was a cluth slip around 8k but it did it only once and the dealer shop couldnt find any issues. I love the space and the decent performance from the best engine in the small car class. Downside is sacrafised fuel economy. But its alot better than previous cars ive driven. I do have my own plans for the car later in life.
Jury's Still Out
Pretty good ecomony car, but DO NOT buy a standard! Clutch failed and is not covered under the bumpper to bumper warrenty. Cost to fix - around $1,000.
incredible for the price
Extremely well made for the price, runs flawlessly, with effective manuevering excelleration is ausumn when needed. Highway long distance driving, absolutely perfect. Negatives, some of the paneling in the trunk flimsy and easy to knock out of position. Should have cd player instead of tape in the radio system
2 years and still satisfied!
I was hesitant to buy this car at the start, but quickly fell in love with it. Price, economy and warranty are just plain unbeatable. I was trying to purchase a 3-5 year old Camry or Honda and got into a brand new Elantra for the same money.
Very Happy 3rd Time Owner
I first puchased a used '99 elantra. I had that car for a few years with no problems. My fiance bought a new Accent and I just bought a new 5door Elantra GT. I am increadably happy. This is my first new car and I am comfortable knowing i will be taken car of with the warrenty especially since I am a student. Remember you get a lot of car for such a low price because Hyundai is still making a name for itself in this country. The GT is fun to drive, the manual is very responsive and the suspension firm, but not harsh. I look good in this car and I look forward to driving it. Also I must say the six speaker stereo is loud and very clear. This is no econobox.
SO FAR, SO GOOD
FIRST TIME HYUNDAI BUYER..AM VERY HAPPY, SO FAR. NOT ONLY WITH THE AUTOMOBILE BUT ALSO WITH PLANET HYUNDAI'S ATTENTIVE AND COURTEOUS SERVICE. VP LAS VEGAS, NV
Good commuter car!
I bought my car new in October 2004. The only repair that it has needed was when my driver side window rubber folded over and the window didn't operated properly. That repair was covered under warranty. This car is economical, easy to park, and handles well. A plus is the leather is holding up. The moon roof slide and tilt are nice to use on a evening drive. I would recommend buying this car used because most 05's will still be under the manufacturers warranty.
Not too bad
Bought the car for a daily commuter w/ some road trips in mind as well. I've been pretty pleased with the car, but it is in the shop right now at 42,000 miles to get the rear brakes replaced. Seems way too early, especially since I have the manual and use my brakes sparingly. Dealer seemed mystified as to why only 1 brake pad was worn badly... Tires were completely bald by about 32,000 miles. Clutch is pretty pathetic too, definately not a sport- machine. Sloppy gearbox sometimes leads to a gear grinding here and there (roomate has the same problem with his Accent). Probably going to be my first and last Hyundai, I'd rather pay a little more for better quality.
A Great Little Car!
We purchased this car new a little over 2 years ago and haven't regretted the purchase yet! My husband drives a lot of miles for his job, and the gas mileage/price is what attracted us to this car. It handles nicely and has the right amount of get-up-and-go for highway and interstate driving. We were also attracted to the safety features. We haven't had to do any service on the car other than routine maintenance, but we have had to have the little clips that hold the floor mats down replaced a few times on the driver's side - they seem to break off easily. This car is surprisingly roomy and comfortable.
Terrible Dealer Support
Fun car to drive, purchased for kids to use. Fuel Gauge went bad, also problem with odometer electronics, within a month period odometer went from 19k+ skipped the 20s and 30s and went to 40k, neither Hyundai nor dealer would take care of it. I had canceled the extended warranty 6 months prior and funished Hyundais cust. service dept in Irvine with notarized statement of mileage at that time at approx 11k. I had owned prior Hyundais with no issues approx 10 yrs prior. They always took care of the consumer. I guess now they are to big. I have purchased 3 new cars in the past 3 months non a Hyundai and never will buy another. They will never be equal to Mazda or Honda with this lack of service
2005 Hundai Elantra GT Hatchback
Drives like a dream, holds the road like it knows the way to where you are going. Controls are second nature, good gas mileage so far, with 1200 miles getting 25mpg. Hatchback utility is awesome with plenty of cargo space. Loaded a new dishwasher without a sweat, who needs a gas guzzling SUV? We are very happy with our purchase to date. My wife has a Honda Accord, which is also a great car , but she says the Hundai holds the road better and handles like a champ. If you are going to buy one make sure to spend the extra for the GT suspension.
hubert humphrey hyundai
I just sold a big Acura, have had Hondas for years, big Buicks, etc., and this is the best car ever. More bells and whistles than some very expensive autos.
Hyundai
It is fun to drive and you can't beat the warranty!!
This car's A Steal !!
Being in the market for a reliable, well built but low cost new small car, I fully expected to end up buying a Honda Civic.. Until I listened to a friend who swore by his '03 Elantra. I'm glad I did. After lotsa research & test driving both the Civic & Elantra GT, The Elantra was the clear winner with much better acceleration, lots more fun to drive, better looks in & out, better interior egonomics, the fit & finish was excellent, great sound insulation, the warranty was far, far better. The Elantra GT came with far more standard features (like leather, alloy wheels, etc.)and cost, after all the dickering at both, literaly thousands of $$ less than the Civic. This car's a steel !
Elantra
Handles better than our Honda Civic, very quiet for that price range. Have had zero problems so far.
A Korean GTI
The Elantra GT is the Korean equivelant of the first Volkswagen GTI. Put a strong motor in a small car with a good suspension a decent 5 speed transmission, add a nice interior a good stereo and an attractive price and it will sell. I have seen as many new GT's as I did when I had purchased my GTI 20 years ago cruising down the road and passing me with a wave or knowing smile. This is a well thought out and quality built car that is fun to drive and turn's heads. I have had people ask numerous times if it's the new saab?
It's Cute!
I've only had it a couple of days, but so far, so good! It's really cute, lots of features, great price, and drives well! Mine is GT fully loaded with all the bells and whistles for under 19k!
Outstanding small car
My Elantra is one of the best cars I have ever owned at any price. It is comfortable for long trips, gets excellent fuel economy, feels solid, and is pretty reliable. This is one of the few cars I have owned that shines for long distance driving comfort. The car has quality materials except for the paint on the wheels. The wheels showed surface rust after less than two years and had to be repainted. I also had to have the exhaust "down" pipe replaced twice under warranty. It starts fo leak and gets noisy. Otherwise, no problems or complaints. My car is approaching 50000 miles and I still love it. Fuel economy is 34-40 mpg.
Relatively Reliable and Good Car
I have 47K miles with the GLS five- speed manual transmission hatchback, and I haven't had any problem with the clutch or engine. Both have been maintained on a regular basis, usually a few hundred miles over every 3000. However, I did have to get the rear brakes replaced at 30K. But this because I was a little abusive with the parking brake while driving. Immaturity I guess. Everything else has been great, but the tape deck needed to be replaced with a more digital deck because of an electrical short at 45K miles. Overall, you gotta be realistic that this isn't going to drive like any type of high end roadster, however I have been impressed with the handling and gas mileage 28-35 usually.
Outstanding
Dollar for dollar one of the best cars I have owned and I have owned two Lexus (ls 400) and (sc 400).
2005 GT Sedan
I went to a Hyundai dealer Toyota and Subaru. The Hyundai was, by far, the most fun to drive and the best value. The snappy 2L 4 cyl engine couples well with the 5-speed to produce a sports-car driving experience. The car handles exceptionally well in curves. I was so surprised by how much fun driving a GT was that I bought one. The exterior finish and design are first-rate, as is the awsome feature list. The GT comes with leather seats and all of the ammenities of an upscale roadster --- but at a price near a sub-compact. The only feastures I can think to improve would be the seats (a bit stiff and the mileage (34mpg hwy). The real-time mpg display inhibits flogging the engine, too.
Great all around car
This car is very fuel efficient, is extremely dependable, and comfortable to drive and ride in. I haven't had to have any work done to it - only scheduled oil changes, etc.
Second Elantra in 2 years
We had our GT hatchback for 2 years now and when I had to replace my other car, another Elantra had all the features that I wanted for a good price. Mazda3, Corolla, Civic and Kia Spectra were my other choices but Elantra still has the best value for the money IMHO
looked for practical bargain-- got it!
Lots of good cars to pick from in this size; I needed something safe, comfortable, economical, reliable. Price & warranty got me to dealership; comfort, int. & ext. design, and side airbags sold me. It's been flawless. The driver's multiple seat adjustments and the smooth ride make my long trips pleasurable. Plenty of cruising power. Well designed nooks & compartments, and cup holders... I see lots of Elantras on the road, and am hoping resale on these continues to improve as folks see Hyundai has its act together-- but even it if doesn't, I expect to happily drive this car for a LONG time, and am confident I'll get my money's worth.
elantra
i really enjoy my Hyndai it is really a good car for your $$$$$.....i love the road side assistance....Yes I would buy another one
What a buy!
Compared to the Toyota Corolla, or the Honda Civic, a real buy. Much more "bang for your dollar".
Love my Elantra
I love my new Elantra. I went from driving a '92 tercel to this car, and the difference is astounding even though I got the base model. It's extremely comfortable, and so much nicer looking than the price suggests it should be. People have told me that it looks like a Saab or even a small jaguar.
Older Elantra's
Great car for the money, had a 2001, 2003, and currently 2005. ALL Made it way past 200,000 miles! Keep maintenance up and all should be good!
Air Bag Did Not Deploy
I had a 2005 Hyundai Elantra and stupidly rear-ended someone. After the impact I sat there staring at the AIR BAG DEPLOYED flashing light and wondered where the bag was. Thank God I didnt need it. Can you imagine if I had needed it what would have happened. Beware and get this equipment checked. Ill never own another Hyundai. The Elantra was my second and had two bad experiences. Never again.
