Bought a used 2005 Elantra GT in 2016 with 56,000 miles on it. I planned on keeping it for about 2 years. Now in 2021, we still have the car. Has 126, 000 miles and this car is really good. For the money we paid. This car is dependable. Rides great. Smoith on the highway. Based on mileage, I replaced the water pump and timing belt as a preventative measure. Give this model some old fashioned TLC and it hangs in there and runs. We'll buy a new car soon, but keeping this one definitely.

This is one of the best cars I’ve owned. Very inexpensive to maintain. Bought it with 80000 At 180 000 miles we had to replace the clutch and control arms. We bought it used 8 years ago with a salvage title but it works great. It has 183000miles on it. Even with current repairs the maintenance cost of this vehicle is very affordable. Plus with rising gas prices the mileage per gallon is awesome.

Most bang for the buck

Bought the 05 elantra in 2017 w/102k miles for just $1,800. Previous owner already did timing belt and water pump right before selling it. Bought it cheap because it had hard steering on cold starts. All it needed was the tensioner tightened on the alternator for power steering to work properly. Common issue. Other than that at 160k now in 2021 and still game me no issues whatsoever. I did the basic stuff whenever I get a used car. Iridium NGK spark plugs. Valve cover gasket. New battery. New alternator just in case because the miles we're getting up there. Set of new tires at Walmart for less than $200 for all 4 installed. 60k miles in 4 years with no problems whatsoever. I trust this generation more than the newer generations of Elantras.

Bought my 2005 Hyundai Elantra GT new and it is still going strong nearly 15 years later. It has been such a reliable, comfortable car and I feel fortunate that I chose to buy and keep it for so long. I intend to keep it as long as possible. It has never had a problem and the only work it has ever needed is routine maintenance. The interior is fairly comfortable with leather seats and is a noticeable step up from the comparable offerings from Toyota and Honda at the same or higher price point. Also worth noting is the exceptionally good visibility the driver has.

Cheap, reliable car

I bought this car for $800, had 189000 miles on it. I put about $700 in repairs to the car when i got it, none of which kept the car from driving. The exterior clear coat has came off and doesnt look good, but the interior has held up really well. I fixed the passenger cv axle, put new tires on, and gave it an alignment. Ive drove the everloving crap out of this car. Ive put 11000 miles on this car in 5 months. It has yet to contract any new problems since ive had it until now. Its still driving but the clutch is wearing out. But it has been very very reliable, not fun to drive, but cheap and reliable. I do have to say though, the absolute worst thing with this car is the ride quality. I swear it is worse than a 1 ton truck. One reason im trading it in on a truck. But, if your in need of a cheap reliable car to get you through a tough spot, i definitly recommend one of these. Btw i get average 26mpg on highway going about 75 to 80. Really good on gas.
