Best in class
The Hyundai Elantra GT is everything it was purported to be in 95% of the reviews I read. Mine has the two available options packages, power sunroof and Traction Control System with ABS. Many standard features including A/C; Leather seats, steering wheel and door trim; AM/FM/CD; 4 wheel disk brakes; side airbags; and many other items. Good handling on various road surfaces. Have driven the car hard and fast. Lots of power available when engine is mated to the manual transmission. Finding a GT with the manual was difficult, especially one fully loaded with the chianti paint. The only negative issues are minor. Overall this car is hard to beat.
A little trooper she is.
Six months after buying my Elantra, I was hit from behind by a semi (which pushed me into the car in front of me). Other than a pulled back, I was fine. My car, on the other hand, had to have quite a bit of work (body and two things under the hood). Over four years later, I've never had a problem with the engine -- despite her smash- up. I'm no mechanic but that record speaks to me of her reliability more so than if she'd never been in such a collision.
I'm glad I did my research
I test drove the Elantra last December...compared to the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sentra it won hands down. But I hesitated because of poor crash test results re: airbag deployment. I've had my 2002 Elantra for 2 weeks and love the way it handles. My "workhorse" 93 Toyota Camry still runs and looks good but at 190,000 miles it became a second car for my daughter. The Elantra is so much peppier and responsive. I had to get used to sitting a little lower on the road and more road noise. I'm having too much fun playing with the moonroof. CD feature is nice although I don't believe the speaker system compares to Toyota. Still checking gas mileage...with only 2 fills, between 25-28 mpg mostly city driving
