Classic Sport
This car is excellent for those looking for something fun. Although the interior is bland and the car is a portly weight, it's mostly a silent killer. A little heavy to take 90 degree turns with ease, but if you take it on a curvy backroad, you see its true power. Take it on a sharp curve at speeds even a WRX would be scared of and the Prelude laughs at the curve and eats it for breakfast. Interstate driving is like a cakewalk for this car, easily passing any car with a quick downshift or two. Stop- and-go driving is a little boggy but still spirited. Also very quiet! The added reliability and high-quality materials make this car a smart buy for anyone wanting something fun!
prelude sh forever
I've been driving prelude SH a year now and everyday always put a smile on my face. I guess i dont need a face lift anymore, naturally it lift everytime i drive it, lol. I am at my 50's and this machine keeps me young. At 259,000 mileages there's no major work done into it except for regular maintenance of course. I drive it hard and revving high once in a while and this machine doesn't frustrate you. It goes on and on and on... the sexy body, the beauty of reliability, the perfection of stick shift is worth every penny. Bought it 6 grand but its worth it. No headache. If u find one, grab it. You'll love it the rest of your life, but don't trade your wife though, lol. Honda bring it back...

99 Prelude
The prelude by Honda is a legend and I hope Honda decides to start production again soon. The 99 models saw a 5 HP increase to make it 200 HP(Base model seems fasteR than the SH MODEL), which is more than the type r integra stock. Exterior styling still turnsheads todaY and the interior is not bad. Under the hood we see one of the biggest stock honda 4 cylinder motors at 2.2 liters and the added bonus of VTECH MAKES THIS BABY SCREAM AFTER 5500 RPM. The one thing I have not like about hondas as I have previously owned a 00 civic si and 95 GSR integra is the clutches in the cars stock are not very heavy duty especially during racing. Overall the lude is the best sporty honda out there
Best Honda ever!!
The 5th generation Prelude is the best looking Honda ever built. It strikes the perfect balance between the conservative lines of the Accord and the edgy aggressiveness of the NSX. Sure . . . it could do with a bit more low-end power, but it has plenty of juice for just about any situation you can imagine. What's more important -- it's REFINED power. 110 MPH feels more like 55 and there's almost no body roll to speak of. I was saddened when Honda decided to discontinue this exceptional line . . . but, I GOT MINE!!! I suggest you do the same.
Renaissance Coupe
As my faithful coupe approaches 60,000 miles, I began to reflect on the time we've spent together (cue the sentimental music...) Glancing at the Prelude, I concluded that Honda engineers set out to design a sporty coupe that could handle the rigorous demands a driving enthusiast would muster during ownership. Hmm, so what are the daily observances that quench my thirst for excitment? A comparatively torquey inline-4 from Honda which comes alive above the infamous camshaft change point. Amazing Handling - easily the Prelude's strongpoint, ATTS gimmickry is actually a reality. I personally vouch for its predictability over overall comfort.
Fun car to drive
This is the 4th new car I have owned and by far it is the best. As my car comes up on the 60000 mile mark it still drives like a dream. As a former muscle car owner (camero z28, mustang gt) I can tell you the pleasure of this car far exceeds them. And the gas mileage makes my 30 mile commute alot more fun. I have not had a single mechanical problem with this car(except I blew out a speaker rocking out to the stereo). I only wish it was still in prodution so I could buy a new one when the time comes.
Best Car I have owned
I have owned Bug eyed Sprites, MGB, TR4,Lotus Turbo Esprit, 1964 Mustang, Dodge 1967 R/T, and many other performance cars. I worked for a Mercedes and BMW dealership picking up cars for service. I drove almost every model they make. I can only say the my 1999 Prelude is more fun to drive than any other car I have owned or driven. It is just fun.
A Great, Fun and Dependable Car
To anyone that is thinking about buying this car, don't hesistate. It is excellent. It's fast and sturdy and most importantly dependable. Will never break down and so far (after 43000 miles) I've only had to change the tires. Fuel consumption is a bit high for a four cylinder (19 mph average) and the tank is small. This can prove frustrating as I have to fill it up every 4 days or so. Nevertheless, if I had to choose whether or not to get this car again, I would jump on the opportunity to get it again. I have test driven many sport cars (350Z, G35) and they are not much different in performance from this,
Prelude SH - saved my life
Recently, I was clipped from the passenger side behind by a tractor trailer cab which was spinning in a hydroplane. This was in a rainstorm at freeway speeds. I did 2 ½ 360 clockwise spins before coming to a stop. The prelude SH suspension and ATTS saved my life as I steered into the spin and avoided a 2nd clip by the counter spinning truck cab. So here is where the 80% power transfer to auto steer the outside front wheel occurs. Most of the time one hardly notices the SH, but I did about 3 Gs and maintained steering with my front wheels while the rear spun about. Worth all the prior gear shifts during slow commuter traffic.
Honda Prelude Power
Pound for pound the best FWD sports coupe of it's time!! Best word of advice if your interested in buying a used 5thgen Honda Prelude is to stay away from the Automatic Transmission. The A/T for the 5thgen was a new A/T sport shift and had issues with leaks, some of them had issues with shift solenoids or worse after they hit 75k on the odometer. There's 2 version of the manual shifter; the Type SH had ATTS(Active Torque Transfer System) and the Base Manual Shift. Both worked very well but I'd steer towards the Base Model M/T, if you can find one. The Type SH model was slightly heavier due to the ATTS unit but both models had the same exact engine. The Type SH came with a trunk spoiler and I think the ground effects were slightly different. The engine is very reliable, the braking system is excellent, excellent ride quality and handles like a FWD Porsche. The interior is very nice, front seats really hold you in place for those sharp curves, the back seats aren't built for adults and if you can find a model with leather in good condition then jump on it. The regular plush seating is still very nice...my first 1999 Prelude had black plush seating but the black leather just gives the interior a more luxurious feel. 1999-2001 has a little more HP/Torque than the 1997-1998. The M/T models have an extra 10 HP than the A/T models. Make sure the Timing Belt, Water Pump and TB Tensioner has been changed. Also ask about the EGR system, the EGR valve port and EGR intake ports can sometimes get dirty and require service/cleaning. The Manual Transmission has a clutch master cylinder, clutch fluid lines and slave cylinder; check these items for leaks. Normally the slave cylinders last a while but obviously they can wear and if you have to replace the Slave Cylinder I'd recommend only using a "Honda" Slave Cylinder. You can also check the Manual Transmission fluid at the fill plug...remove plug at the side of Transmission case then stick your finger in there to check oil quality without having to open the drain plug at bottom of pan. Good luck with your search.

Honda Prelude
Bought this car brand new right of the boat, they actually just unloaded it on the lot, bought it with 3 miles on it, the 3 miles I put on the car test driving it. It is too bad Honda cannot built a decent electric car that looks like this. They need to pay more attention to Tesla motors and get away from the electric cars that look like boxes with wheels on them
quicker than most v-8's
wonderful, that about sums it up!
Worth every penny I've paid for it
This car really stands out. I've made over 50000 miles in it and...nothing and thats what I love about hondas, I see my friends dragging their VW's back and forth to the dealer, with milage that's half of mine (German engineered and made in mexico...). But really I've been looking to replace this car and there is nothing that even comes close. Toyota stopped making nice cars years ago, when they decided to hit all the age groups with their designs and thier cars are simply anal. The only alternative I was considering was VW, but they seem to have so many mechanical problems that I'd rather stay headache-free with older honda
Best honda ive driven.
I like my lude because it is a safe fun fast and good looking car that is dependable. Ive done many mods. inc- intake headers high flow cat. all stanless exaust power pullys msd ignition jet power chip all done myself. Aftermarket companies couldnt have made it easier than bolt-on products. I have had no problems with all the mods. never been dynoed. and still running perfect. Yet, still cant beat the GT mustang! can you say turbo??? eat dust!
1999 Honda Prelude SH
This car is an amazing machine. It handles like no other car I have ever driven. It's performance is comporable to luxury sport coupes that are much more expensive. I used to own a 93 Prelude VTEC and have recently purchased the 99 Type SH. I am very happy with the Honda Prelude.
99 prelude
awesome car, fabulous pick up and once that tach hits 5200...hold on to the wheel...car takes of like a rocket
It's gone
I purchased a new prelude 3 years ago and it was a great car except for one thing, it burned a quart of oil every 1,000 miles since the day I got it. My dealer contacted honda and they said that was acceptable (refused to do anything, even though I was a loyal customer for the past 15 years). Even my service rep thought that was bull. I just traded for a mini cooper.Goodbye honda!
I luv my Lude
I've only had my Prelude for a few months now, but I'm loving it. Good handling, good power all the way to redline, and when VTEC kicks in, look out. Sport shift may be nice, but the 5 speed's the way to go.
PRELUDES RULE
My first car and im gona keep it till it dies
Favorite of 2 hondas owned
I previously owned a honda civic 95 coupe 2 dr 5 spd manual transmission and although it was only a 4 cylinder I loved it. I couldn't believe how much more I would come to love the prelude. Aww the fun I had driving it... I could go on and on. I felt awesome flying down with the stereo blaring and the sun roof open. Absolutely awesome.
i love my prelude
why do people bash on the interior of the prelude? its got the bare essentials...all that luxory crap is just extra weight anyways. yes, i agree the cupholders are terrible, that's why i got JDM cupholders that came off a prelude type-s. the body shape is awesome, people say they hate the rectangular headlights, but i love them...doesn't look like every other civic on the road. 200hp 4 banger, what more can you ask for?
I love this car
This car handles well, looks great, and is fast what more can u ask for in a sports car?
Best car I've had so far
This car handles better than a BMW on curves, Its close proximity to the ground helps it stick to the road, and its wide body helps keep it balanced at alla times.
Honda Preludes rule
Anyone who buys this car will love it i promise you this car is not only fun to drive but will last and they run great.
Quality Honda
This vehicle offers enough power to put a Mercedes Kompressor to shame. Styling is wonderful, and the interior has greatly improved.
Porsche Quality Honda Price
The Prelude is a brilliant all around sports car. It's fun to drive (especially when the VTEC engine kicks in), and can get you from 0-60 quite quickly. It offers most of the technology that you find on Porsche Boxers without the Porsche price and the mechanical quirks that Porsche has. You will give up head room (fine for me at 5' 7" not so great for someone over 6') and it's not a "family car." Everything is "race-tuned" so don't expect a "down comforter" type ride. The "fun" factor will make up for this.
Having fun in a 'lude
With all my friends into sports-compact cars and the illusive street racing scene I wanted something original and able to be built apon. My anwser was the Honda Prelude. Fun and reliable and many options on the street scene. Quick and exciting.
NOTHING IS PERFECT...
COULDN'T ASK FOR MORE FOR THE PRICE!
bring back this car man!!!!!!!!!!
always wanted one, got a fictus green ss auto, and although a manual would have been a first choice i am still impressed with the auto, leather seats were a nice perk, the vtec is an animal and i would not trade her in for anything else. a sexy car to look at and to drive. the prelude hates to drive under sixty mph and you can hear it under the hood. once on the highway she's happy. domestic cars look out!
Great Car
This has been a fun car to drive. It handles better than any car I have ever driven and it can move pretty quick for a 2.2 L engine.
Great car for everything
Though my Prelude was purchased as a daily driver, I later began driving it on local road courses and learned what the car was really about. Handling, speed, and comfort. The car has held up very well and still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it! I actually bought an old Accord so I wouldn't have to drive the Prelude in the winter in effort to preserve the its current condition.
excellent car
I have now had two Preludes, a 1997 and 1999 5-speed. I love them both and love driving them. I have never had any problems and would recommend them to anyone.
Reliable Performance
I've had my Prelude for over 4 years now and have not had a single problem with it. Extremely dependable and reliable car. Handling is excellent for a car in this price range and acceleration is also quite good. Honda is the King of small-engine performance and the Prelude is no exception. True, you won't get the heart-stopping performance of a V8, but the Prelude can hold its own quite well and is cheaper at the gas pump too. All in all, just an excellent all- around package from Honda and a true pleasure to drive.
master piece
A great car.Other than being just a little too heavey it's perfect. A well built, fun and reliable sports car,not many car makers offer anything close. So if you get the chance buy one!
GOOD IN CLASS
For it's class-prelude outperforms other cars like celica gt-s and eclipse GT and is less common than it's competitors with a more original look--even the cheap model is not cheap compared to competition the competition. Good redline, good speed in top end, and nice look especially from the sides. Interior is comfortable and offers room for 4. Shifter is nice, quick, and quiet also and hydraulic clutch engages smoothly with little effort.
Best Sports Coupe...Ever!
I bought my Prelude from my boss when he decided to buy a BMW M Roadster...I knew that I had to have it as soon as I found out that it was for sale. It's a blast to drive and I really like the styling, inside and out. There isn't a day that goes by in which I don't smile because I own one of these.
