It just won't quit!

I bought my Prelude new off the lot with 59 miles on the odo at $18K. 16 years later it's still going! Only Honda dealers performed maintenance on the car for the first 10 years or so, and I used premium fuel at least once a month. I'm a stickler for getting the oil and air filters changed around 5000 miles, but usually sooner since I reached 300,000 miles late last year. :-) The car is still a dream to drive after only one timing belt change and 3 clutches. It's nice to be able breeze down the highway at 80+ MPH and she feels like she did back in '95. Only downside is the rust above my rear wheels. :-) Other than, I've certainly received my money's worth 3 times over.

Decent Value

I may have overpaid a bit for a mint, garage kept Si, but I definitely feel it was worth it. Even with the mileage in the 150k range, the maintenance for me has been minimal. For my daily vehicle, the power is adequate for passing and accelerating out of sight from annoying drivers. The handling is excellent. Car is light and easily maneuverable. MPG (with 10% ethanol fuel) have been from 26 with "spirited driving" to > 30 when gas was $4.50/gal and I was trying to drive efficiently.

Good advice from original owner of '94

And my advice to other '94 Prelude owners is to never give up this car. My advice to potential buyers is if you are lucky enough to find a Prelude for sale, buy it, fast, and on the first contact. I am looking at purchasing a Honda Element, but I am keeping my Prelude, currently with only 60K miles. This sounds low, but almost all miles are city driving instead of highway driving. Needless to say, I don't drive much except to and from work and a few errands weekly. My Prelude has let me down only once, and the mechanics warned me of the potential problem, before it happened. I repaired the car quickly.

A Good Car, But Very Overpriced

I wrote a review on this car over 2 years ago; since that time I have put 55k on it, and, granted I drive it very hard, the car is showing its age. Honestly, this car is good, but Euro cars (BMW) can walk circles around it in terms of comfort and performance, and, sadly for the Prelude, cost about the same. The adage of Hondas being cheaper to repair than other brands is a myth, in the last year I have put in an A/C Compressor ($1050), and a clutch ($1000) parts are obscenely expensive, and the car is nearly impossible to work on. This car is a fun, and it handles awesome, but is too expensive and uncomfortable, especially with a 3-series available for the same money.

This car is a wonder to have. Unlike many cars this will keep you on the road for years. My H23 si has over 260,000 miles on it and still flied down the road with no problems, But just remember to change the timing belt before 100,000 miles or there could be a problem. On the good side I took the head off the engine and wow I couldn't believe how there was no sludge in the cylinder head. Great on gas I get 27 miles a gallon. Others say parts are expensive. No they are not. I get my clutch for 200 bucks not $1000 Honda is the way to go.

This is the fifth Prelude we've had in our family, and my favorite. The 4WS makes it a fun car to drive, and it has great curb appeal as well.

H22A VTEC is Excellent!!

This car is great. The VTEC motor is very powerful when you need it to be. The leather is the tight leather type. I think the dash looks great, it is comparable to the Lexus Electro- illuminescent type dashes. This car handles pretty well around the corners. Parts are a little pricey, but worth it by far. I give it a 2 thumbs up!

Excellent car, been having it for almost 9 years now, no major problem so far. High: Excellent design in and out. Smooth yet powerful engine, and smooth transmission. True sport car look, perfect with 17' or 18' wheels and performance tires. Low: Minor understeer, as most FF cars do. Rear seats too small, definitely not good to carry adults for long trips. Relatively small trunk space.

Nothing better in '94

Didn't really like it when they first came out, but after driving it. . .OH MY GOD! This VTEC is quick and it handles incredibly well. I have taken mine to 135mph on several occasions and I have taken a few fwy interchange ramps at 100mph! Z-rated tires necessary but no suspension modifications. I consistently beat Boxsters - no joke! If you're thinking about getting one, do it. If you're thinking about selling one, don't because there's nothing out there that can compare to this for the price.

I bought this car since it shipped to United state, been taking good care of it since then. The mileage on my car reads 109K as of November 2002. I do every recommended scheduled maintainence and my car never betrayed me. Definitely a good commute car, heck, it's even a good touring car; I've driven it across U.S. (SF to NY) twice and got no problem finishing my trip. This car embodies great performance and excellent fuel economy. A great choice for younger car buyer. But like all sports car, Honda Prelude has little back seat space and tiny little trunk space. Definitely not an ideal transportation for a group of people.

The prelude is definately one of the best sports cars around. Looks, although eccentric, are hard not to like. Interior is very good. The car steers like no other - point it in the right place and it will get you there. A pretty quick ride - until the VTEC kicks in. Then you better just hold on.

The Prelude is GREAT!! The front seats keep you from sliding while handling crazy curves in the road. The long digital dash gives it a space-age look. The availability of after market parts is good too.

This is a great car even after celebrating its 10th birthday. I couldnt think of a better car to take through the twisties. The SI or VTEC models are definately the way to go. Shifting is very smooth and accurate, developing the most power in the 3500 rpm range. The steering on this car is razor sharp and with a good set of performance tires you can really rip into those back country roads.

This 94 Prelude is highly reliable. I have never done any repair beyond normal maintenance in 10 years! I've had years in which I've driven it 20,000 miles and others of 5,000 miles. It's a peppy, fun drive that accelerates very well. It handles beautifully. This is the best car I've ever had in 35 years of driving. Even the temperature controls are great-the air conditioner cools quickly and the heat is just as responsive.

This is a great car; both fun and reliable. The space is a setback, but it's a fast car and the look is never outdated. I've had this car for 10 years and it's never let me down so far. Sad to see the Prelude discontinued, but much props to Honda for coming out with such a great car.

Very fun to drive, the seats hold you nicely in place and offer enough support for long drives. Great leg and arm room in the front, but the back seats are somewhat lacking. The dashboard is very unique with energy meters representing the fuel level and engine temperature. All of the controls are in the right spots and you naturally seem to find them. The car sits pretty low to the ground but has large windows so visibility is still good. Pretty quick for a non- turbo 4-banger but still looks faster than it is. The Car does get good gas mileage (usually averages around 25) for its performance though. Front wheel drive is great, especially during winter (Chicagoland area).

After doing months of research in picking out my first vehicle, I choose the Honda Prelude. And let me be the one to say this car has been extremely reliable. It has never left me on the side of the road. It may be lacking features that some of us cannot live without, but for those of you who enjoy a real sporty four-banger, this is an option for you. I recently had a new VTEC engine installed, and are now pushing 220 with intake/headers/sport clutch.

I bought my Prelude when it was 4 years old and had 30,000 miles on it. I knew I wanted that car the first time I test drove it, and I have not regretted buying it for even one second since I signed the contract. I love that it is a sporty, fun-to-drive car that handles well, but also has a good-sized trunk and gets 30 MPG (combined highway/city) consistently. I give her regular oil changes, and have had the timing belt/water pump replaced twice (at about 83000 mi, and again at 179000 mi). From what I understand about the engine construction, it is a very bad thing to wait for the timing belt to break, as you will then have to have a valve job too. With basic repairs, she runs & runs.

The reputation of this car speaks for itself, I searched high and low before deciding on this one, and looked at all the usual suspects (Eclipse, F-Body), as well as more specailzed sports cars (300ZX, MR2, SVX). No other car could match the Prelude as far as performance and reliablity, the MR2 was my second choice, but I need at least some backseat.

I sold my 1994 Honda Prelude about a month ago and still miss it. The car handled & felt great. It was fun to drive and the body styling was sleek. Aside from normal maintence, the upkeep was minimal. When you wanted the extra power, the VTEC engine gave it to you, great for entering the highway or passing. I would still have it if it wasn't for the fact that I needed a 4-door family sedan...Hopefully I will love my new Saab 9-3 as much.

The ‘94 is my second Prelude. I had an ‘85 with 299,916 miles on it when it was totaled by a kid in an F150 making a right turn from the left turn lane. It was still a deep shiny blue and running beautifully when the kid slammed into my driver side door sending me to the hospital and the car to the grave. My ‘94 si with 5 speed has about 265,000 mi., body gorgeous, interior immaculate, engine purring (appropriately loud), and with diligent maintenance I expect THIS one to pass that 300,000 mark.
