Another Great Honda
I have only had my new Pilot for 2 weeks but love it so far. The handling and motor is very good for an SUV. I am still learning all the new gadgets but really like the lane assist feature. Wish there was a CD player, but knew it wasn't there when I purchased it. Sound system is good not great. The only real complaint I have is the arm rest ergonomics for the drivers seat. The adjustment for the right arm of the drivers seat is poor, otherwise the seats are very comfortable for trips. Overall great vehicle and would purchase it again. Plus a shout-out to the team at Rivertown Honda - Great to deal with again

78,000 miles and a second set of fuel injectors
Bought the pilot for the Honda reliability. Car has been at the dealership for over a week while Honda considers if they should replace the second set of defective fuel injectors. Have never replaced one fuel injector in any car I have ever owned, not alone a whole set. TWICE! The internet is full of people complaining of the same issue. It’s a design problem of direct injection with the injectors being placed in the cylinder wall and building carbon on the injectors. Has been a good car otherwise, just normal maintenance. The service manager has told me that this is a common issue and is a real nightmare to deal with all the pilots and ridge lines on the road. Honda knows they have a major problem but keeps trying to push the cost of the repair on the consumer. A recall should be issued to take care of this problem

The Honda Elite is my XT5
I love this vehicle! I have owned 12+/- Hondas, with all of which I have been very pleased. I was going to buy a Cadillac XT5, but then I saw the Pilot Elite. Wow! My past experience with Honda and the fact a comparably equipped XT5 would have cost me $15,000 more than the Elite, made my purchase a no-brainer. The ride, quietness, and safety features are superb!

Long term review: five years and 55000 miles
I have owned the car for almost five years; we bought it new in 2017 and put about 55000 miles. I like its roominess for our family of 6. The 3rd row is probably one of the most spacious in its category (two car seats at the back), definitely larger than a highlander. The headroom is excellent; I am 6ft tall and fit comfortably, although I wish the driver seat would move back further for about an inch. It feels like having the roominess of the last model Tahoe with a more manageable car to drive and accelerate like a v8 of a giant truck. I like its v6 engine, naturally aspirated, with no turbo four. It is adequate and responds well when pushed. The AWD system is also one of the best, in my opinion, in this class. It is not like heavy-duty 4WD, but close enough. Our other car is an older Lexus RX, which has more than double the miles and age. The pilot is comparable to our RX on highway driving in terms of quietness. However, when it comes to the smoothness of the transmission, this is where I feel annoyed. Also, worth to mention that the pilot suspension is noisy when driving on imperfect roads or speed bumps, which I think is a design issue for the suspension. My main annoyance with the car is its transmission. I feel some jerkiness when accelerating through hills or delayed response when pushed. It is probably due to the VCM system (variable cylinder management system), which may put a greater load on the transmission when fewer cylinders are engaged. My solution, which seems to work so far, is to change the transmission fluid more frequently. I am also planning to add an ATF cooler to reduce strain on the transmission. Overall I think the car is reliable, and I plan to keep it for another five years. I am not a fan of its entertainment system, but I can live with it. I use Apple carplay all the time, and I find using a shorter cable makes it more stable and works almost every time from the first try.

Leaking Rear Hatch
Our 2017 Pilot leaks through the rear hatch and inside the body molding, every time it rains!!! Like the car, but this worries me since we live in Minnesota. If this is not properly repaired this car will be rusted out in less than two years.

Could be improved
Touch screen not easy to use when driving. Acceleration not good enough when ECO on. If turn off ECO MPG lower to 10 or less. Backup camera vision is poor. No option of blind spot radar in all trims. Right turning camera is useless.

Disappointed
It doesn't feel like an SUV. It's like a car combined with a mini van. Loose steering, slow draggie start up, sits lower so not able to treat like SUV. Lower interior limits hauling anything large. Seller was very limited on the knowledge of the vehicle and, until I received the owner's manual, I didn't realize the limitations on the stereo/interface system that doesn't meet my needs. Irresponsible information from the seller caused ordering of wrong equipment. Overall disappointed with this vehicle and wish I had looked elsewhere. Nothing great about this car for the money spent. I HATE IT I HATE IT, NO CD PLAYER, NO AUX OUTLET, NO TILT IN STEERING WHEEL, AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL VEHICLE.

I wish it had been a four or five star car
If quick response acceleration at high-speed is not important to you, then disregard this review. I test drove the new 2017 Honda Pilot Elite hoping that I could write a check on the spot for the vehicle. I wanted to love it. I feel like the design engineers failed me. The vehicle is far behind the curve on technology which is very disappointing. The Elite model should come with all of the most modern bells and whistles. It should nearly drive itself. Regardless… That is not what I was looking for. I was looking for safety in the form of acceleration… The ability to get out of trouble very quickly on the freeway. As I was test driving the vehicle, I told the sales person sitting in the front passenger seat that the next test was going to make or break the deal. I told him to count the number of seconds from the time that I said "now" until he felt the G forces of acceleration pushing him into the seat. I told him anything over 0.5 seconds would be a failure. On the first test, it took three seconds for acceleration to kick in. We perform the test three more times, and at no time, did it take less than 2.5 seconds for acceleration to check in. That is not enough time to get out of a bad situation. After we return, the sales person brought his chief mechanic to talk to me. The mechanic told me that I could have a third-party reprogram the transmission to give me what I wanted in acceleration, but it would void the warranty. I'm not going to spend close to $50,000 just to have my warranty voided to bring the car up to where it should already be. Because of this, I am giving the 2017 Honda Pilot a two star rating.

My wife's new car
On the whole, excellent. We love this car. Only real downsides are that the radio/display is sluggish. Plan on a full second delay before response. The cruise control lane assist is a bit aggressive for my liking. I tend to use the full width of the lane not just the center.

2017 Pilot
There are better values for price and standard equipment if you do not need a vehicle as big as the Pilot. After the first oil change the Hwy millage dropped from the low 30s to the 26-28 mpg range. It never gets 18mpg in town as rated, more like 16. Overall this is a nice car to drive with fewer blind spots than others. It now has 12,000+ miles with no issues except for the terrible infomat system. The radio will not get all stations that other cars get either. Dealer says too bad, that's how it is. Problem free, but now there is a knocking in the front end very noticeable at 18 -20 mph. Its not tires, I had them rotated. I went to two respectable mechanics and they are both stumped, an axle? wheel bearings? This could be expensive.

A minivan for millennials
I have borrowed this car many times from my parents and it is a dependable people hauler. Not unlike other family SUVs the third row is limited to younger kids. If you want your teenagers to stop back talking you; then threaten them with the third row. It is overall a spacious midsize SUV with a large greenhouse that lets in plenty of light, even in the third row. The second row climate control is much appreciated. It has class leading performance, but the cost is a jerky ride when driven like you stole it. The transmission is generally unrefined in city traffic. Great road trip car and it will handle everything short of a blizzard.

Glitchy
Bought my Pilot new in 2017. It has issues connecting with AppleCarPlay and the screen will sometimes freeze and camera fails to show. It is the Touring version. It’s almost like Honda tried to make it tech savvy but the hardware isn’t up to par. Overall, not thrilled. Not great pickup, esp for a V6.
Pilot Passion!
This is my 2nd Pilot. Had 2005 (bought Dec.'04, 174K mi.) so it was a 'no brainer' to purchase another Pilot. I've driven several mid-size SUV's; Buick, Nissan Rogue, Jeep, etc., and found myself not considering anything but a Honda; its sleek, stylish, from boxy style of years past. I'm still reading my owners manual & learning what this mid-priced model is equipped with! Two years later, I still love it!

Happy Mom. No minivan needed.
It's a great family car with 3rd row seating. Great value for the long term and for safety. One thing they won't tell you is there's no need for the navigation add on if you have an iPhone it has apple car play. It works through the car's display system when you plug in. So nice. Very happy!

Good with limitations
A year later. Yeah. I still hate the bleepin thing. Now, the paint is flaking off. Do you think the dealer cares? No. A lot of people like their Pilots. I don’t. First off, I HATE my doggone Pilot. Can’t stand the damned thing. A big part of this is because my crappy Honda dealer forced me to buy the car. Yeah. Forced me (they refused to give me the keys to my trade back. I can’t say enough bad things about that dealership.) Once I get past the hatred of my car, Mechanically, the car has been great. Like, I’d send my kid off to college and feel comfortable. 51k miles and only normal maintenance. The Pilot lives up to Honda’s reputation. Interior is very average. It’s very nice, but very average. Save the money on the Touring trim level. The seats are pretty comfortable. We take long trips pretty often, and I drive through Los Angeles rush hour. The seats have never been an issue for me (for a while, I thought my driver’s seat was uncomfortable, turns out I just needed to lose some weight! They were fine after I lost 10 lbs - I’m 5-10, and was almost 190 at the time. Legroom is really nice in all three rows, though the 3rd row is best for people under 5’6”. Storage is adequate, and there are enough cup holders so your kids can never ever argue with a sibling for taking their spot. You can load every cup holder with water bottles and drive to Houston without running out! The Apple CarPlay absolutely sucks. It’s fine when it feels like working, but there are many problems with it from connectivity to functions that randomly stop working. The electronics just aren’t well engineered at all. When this was brought up to the dealer (not the sucky place I bought the car), my advisor said it was a known problem that no one wants to correct. Honda blames Apple. Apple blames Honda and other third parties, etc. this becomes a road hazard when the equipment is supposed to work one way then stops while you’re on the road and you get frustrated. No wonder there’s a class-action lawsuit against Honda for this. Secondly, the paint job is quit subpar. Paint on the grill has bubbled. Paint on the door handles has completely come off, costing me $600 because it’s been over 12 months. Not cool guys. So, just average, but it doesn’t suck. Just know that a few key things really negatively affect the pleasure of owning, and my beyond horrible buying experience taints my enjoyment of the car.

Piloting my Honda Around Town
First off this is a great vehicle, great ride, comfortable seating for 8, and loaded with "stuff". I love the sound system and my kids love the rear entertainment. I love the fact that they can watch their movies via headphones, while I can listen to my own music. It is a fairly big SUV and pretty heavy, the V6 engine seems to struggle at times, but overall it's got great power (a V8 engine would have been ideal, but you cant have everything :)). I've had the car for about 3 weeks now so I am still in the honeymoon phase and I am am quite pleased. The electronics are fairly intuitive and the Honda extended warranty for this POC was a steal, compared to other warranties out there (insert Lexus). The center console could have been thought out a bit better as it is just a big box, but overall very happy with my purchase.

Driver Seat Issue
I have had my 2017 Pilot EXL for three weeks now and so far I am very pleased. I bought the car with 28000 miles and it from a Toyota dealer and it seemed to be well maintained. My issue is with the driver’s front seat. It is black leather and looks like new. But, when I am driving down the highway, I feel like I am falling to the left. To me, this is a defect of n the construction of the chair. The Honda dealer keeps insisting that they can’t see it, it might be “wear”, etc. Well it’s still under the manufacturer “Bumper to Bumper” warranty, so I think it should be replaced. Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions? I’d like to give it 5 stars but this needs to be addressed.

2017 Touring
This vehicle is huge, and you need a big garage to store it. Love the right side camera but wish there was a camera on all four sides. That camera helps when changing lanes as you really can’t see cars when turning head only in larger SUVs. People complaining of lack of volume button, but on steering wheel you have a manual control that is very easy to use, and you still get to keep hands on the wheel. Has Garmin navigation, which I prefer. I do wish this came in a two row seating configuration that was a foot shorter. Then the storage would go lower under the privacy cover and give more storage in depth. The 2004 Pilots had better front cabin storage, Miss that terribly, this new configuration is lacking in front cabin storage as I like to have a lot of things easy to reach and keep organized. Car has guts, so no problem on mountain and highway driving. At speeds over 50, on many roads, the car is almost self driving, and keeps itself steered to middle of lane. You still have to keep hands on the wheel but it does help when in narrow lanes with a huge vehicle. The rear dvd entertainment works great, and allows you to still play all the cds 💿 you have, if you don’t have this option, you cannot play them. One feature I love is that when you turn on your high beams, the low beams don’t turn off, so when turning left in pitch black rural areas, you can see. I live in New Mexico, which has save our skies initiatives and not a lot of street lighting. Best features are that I never have to take my key fob out of my purse, I walk up to car n it unlocks, and I walk away and it locks and sets alarm. Trunk holds a lot, and when we travel, one driver can lay down in back seat and sleep because everything fits in trunk. I drive everywhere and travel a lot, this car is built for cross country traveling. I put 20K on in first year and I don’t work, so no miles there, just the cross country driving. My car has been to 11 mostly western big mountain states. At 55 on hwy, it can get as much as 35 mpg if you drive gently and don’t jackrabbit stop and start.

It's okay
Good thing it's the old lady's vehicle as this is the worst Honda I've ever driven. ZF 9-speed is junk. Hesitant and jerky AF. Sad to hear that Honda decided to commit to this POS designed transmission on all 2021 Pilot models.

Piece of trash
"Honda Pilots are reliable cars" That's a lie Had my 2017 car with 82,000 miles on it and have had nothing but trouble. Had to go to the repair shop 4 times within 4 months. Issues with the Catlytic converter, sensors, and emission issues. My 2016 Dodge Journey hit 130,000 miles with no issues until the transmission gave out. This car though, nothing but trouble.

Doing Well after 50K
Bought this 2017 EX AWD in Jan 2018...got a very nice deal on it. Through 50K, one recall and one problem. The recall is for the hood latch, and the problem was with the transmission. Both got fixed under warranty the same day. The transmission issue was an uneven acceleration, or "judder", present primarily after engine warmup. It wasn't a huge problem, but noticeable. Honda has a TSB on this and, upon confirmation, the dealer service department will drain and fill the transmission fluid several times and do a computer adjustment. No more judder. That's it...everything else on this vehicle has been rock-solid.

We purchased the Elite trim to have the best of Honda's safety technology. Our guests will enjoy the panoramic sun roof, but I don't anticipate the video ever being used. Wish that the engine shut off at stop lights could be disabled. Great, comfortable ride, we look forward to roadtripping, soon!

New Pilot Elite
Researched Pilot, Explorer and Highlander. Pilot 3rd row more spacious than Highlander. Explorer rode more “truck like”. Had blind spot monitoring on prior - didn’t want to give it up so had to go to Elite model to get it. Honda should have it in other levels / as option. Push button gears in Elite - bit different - takes getting used to. Many well thought out design elements - impressive. LED headlights are great - very bright - good for those with difficulty seeing at night. Still very pleased with Pilot after 6000+ miles. Had Sienna before so easy to compare the two. Mostly positive for the Pilot - love the safety features, quality is very good, text & message system is exceptional, like the front end ground clearance - no more scraping curbs when pulling in. Longer road trips are almost fun in the Pilot - love the auto adjust cruise control. Believe the Sienna's front side windows were better a blocking the sun and heat. Sienna console is bigger and the 2 glove compartments better for storage.

EX-L Sucks for mountain (high-altitude) driving
Even though it is an AWD vehicle, on the EX-L trim level THERE IS NO 3rd gear, NO 2nd gear. There is: Drive, D4, L. YOU WILL BURN THROUGH ROTORS while braking in the mountains. This is very expensive.

Loving my Pilot!
I went from an 2007 Honda Odyssey EX-L to a 2017 Honda Pilot EX-L and I am very happy with my purchase. Honda makes a great durable family vehicle with lots of bells and whistles for an outstanding price. Sure, there are things I miss from my odyssey like the ability to remove the middle seat in the second row (touring offers captain chairs) , large deep cargo space and passenger ceiling vents for quicker temperature comfort. You can still find those options with a mini van but I was ready to make the switch. I've owned 3 Honda vehicles in my 26yrs of driving and by far they are the best made.

Nice ride my butt!!!
It has a crappy, brittle ride!!! You can feel every bump and crack in the road!!! The one I'm leasing, a 2017 EX AWD, has no Honda Sensing, so it is not as safe to drive, (no blind spot warning , no automatic emergency braking, rear cross traffic alert, no On Star Telematics, no turn signals in the mirrors) no height adjustable passenger seat, a cheap interior with reflectors instead of courtesy lights in the doors, a terrible instrument panel with the biggest gauge being the tach, even though it has an automatic transmission, and the cruise control lights are so tiny there're almost impossible to read, no power liftgate, a prop rod for the hood, lousy gas mileage unless you're on the highway, a right side camera that washes out on sunny days!!!

Horrible warranty service
I have 18k miles on the vehicle and the tires are under warranty. The dealership was not helpful. The tire manufacturer, Continental, would not replace the tires in spite of the fact the chunks of rubber are chipping off daily (and I do basic in city driving so it's clearly a tire defect). Unbelievable. I've had 3 Hondas but this will be the last.

Upgraded from the EX-L to the Touring AWD and love it. Purchased during Black Friday and got a great deal. Insurance premiums dropped considerably due to all the safety features. Excellent overall 7-seat SUV
The 2017 Pilot EX-L is overall an excellent 7-seat SUV. We researched several ones including Pathfinder, Explorer, Highlander, Traverse. One of our main needs was the third row seating. Overall the value of the Pilot is excellent. The performance is excellent, the quality is well known, and it has everything a family may need; from extra USB ports, to three-way climate control, to blind spot monitoring, to many other features that are all standard in the Pilot.
