Best vehicle ever!
I bought new 9/06. This SUV has everything- comfort and capacity, you can haul a lot! This pilot grew with my family! I've hauled 7 kids...5 kids and their stuff...multiple hockey bags and the hockey kids! We grew up through sports, summer and winter. The reliability of this car has been amazing! Because it will be 10 next year, I have started looking at maybe a new car. I cannot find anything out there that may hold a candle to this SUV. I didn't even mention that this baby got me through a few of the worst winters in Michigan history!!! In a foot+ of snow...I only put it in 4WD to back out my drive...then off and away through about 18" in 2!!! If you only had the 2 wheel version- you would be fine in very deep snow. It handles unbelievably well. Once on a very narrow snow covered road after bad storm there wasn't enough room for an oncoming car to pass...I pulled into the "bank" on the side of the road with the hope "we can do this"...and other car passed and I "plowed" through!! On my way again in 2WD! As everyone has said- the only maintenance...normal, brakes, tires...and very recently an alternator. The warning light went off- my husband checked- it was the alternator. He and my son changed it out for about $200! (It wasn't do-it-yourself super easy...but they managed) and we continue off every day like the "energizer bunny"! Mileage is mediocre...but considering all this vehicle has delivered over 9 years, I can forgive some frequent fill ups! Honda if you are listening- clone this vehicle...it is one of the best ever! I can update- 2018- she'll be 12 in August- and she goes every day as dependable transportation. We put about 1k in to her last year, brakes etc...one of my kids drives it- took it on a road trip with friends "up north" Michigan! They took the pilot because it was the only vehicle that would fit everyone and their stuff! I can't say enough for the Pilot and CRV of those vintage years! Excellent vehicles! Great ground clearance- milage...not great- but the vehicle is awesome! I was asked to update this review- This is the most remarkable vehicle ever! This is the oldest vehicle I've ever known to still be great! In great condition! I am sad to report a few rust "specs" on her wheel wells! (they really are specs!!!) Right now, my daughter is driving it daily! (she was 9 years old when we bought it!) We went out together one day and I drove her again...still, an amazing vehicle! My favorite vehicle of all time! I recently found out that Honda brought back the passport- more like this pilot- Kudos Honda!!! When a vehicle costs 40K- comforting to know it will stay with you for at least 10 years and you will still feel love for it!!! Honda creates a following by producing reliable vehicles that will last the test of time! It helps that they design them well- the 2006 pilot has a timeless design!

I love my Honda Pilot !!!
Purchased a used 2006 Honda Pilot EX, 3.5L, V6, 5-spd, 54,000 miles in 2012. My first Honda EVER after owning GM/Ford products. I researched this model in depth & found great ratings & high resale values. I also queried strangers driving Honda Pilots. None had ANY negative comments & ALL said they'd purchase a Honda again; that convinced me! It's been 2 years & my odometer reads 66,000 miles - runs like the day I bought it. Unlike my prior GMs/Fords, my Honda has never seen the inside of a repair shop - EVER. I maintain my vehicles regularly. My Honda has more than proven it's quality, value, & reliability. It's Honda for me from now till eternity!

You can't go wrong with a 2006 pilot
Over 150,000 miles on our 2006 Pilot and it still rides like a new. Changed the oil, tires and brakes that's all that has been needed. I just purchased the best SUV tires money can buy, and I'm sending it to the body shop to have the paint freshened up (no rust just faded) . I'm going to hang on to this dependable vehicle. I now have 165,000 still runs and looks like new. People that own them, love them. I'll never trade it in. New radiator in 2016. Installed new front end bushings before going on a 1600 mile trip to Gaspe QC. A great SUV. I traded the pilot in May of 2018. The odometer turned to 180,000 as I drove into the dealer parking lot. During the 90 minute drive to the dealer I was thinking about how well the pilot handled and the engine performed. Up until three days before this I had no intention of trading the pilot. Two days before this my mechanic found that the frame from behind the rear tires to the rear bumper had rotted out. Unfortunately repairing it was not an option. So I sadly had to let the Pilot go.

7-year owner - still pleased
Purchased brand new in December 2005. Currently have about 53,000 miles. Replaced all brake pads and rotors at 40,000. Replaced tires at about 49,000. The unexpected maintenance has been the front suspension links at about 3 years (they are now starting to rattle again...looks like they last for 3-4 years). Cheap fix though. The condenser went bad at 6.5 years. We use the A/C quite a bit in the summer, and in the winter (defrost). Not much of a "windows down" family. Have followed the Maintenance Minder program. Replaced transmission fluid at 30,000 (did not wait for Maintenance Minder recommendation). Has plenty of zip when you really step on the gas. Get about 16/22 mpg.
I love it, but not a minivan replacement
Bought the '06 Pilot EXL to replace a minivan. My wife wanted 4-wheel drive capability and I was not sold on the Sienna AWD. Simply not as convenient as a minivan to haul around 3 kids and a lab. Not as much room or comfort as a minivan and the sliding doors of a minivan are a lot easier for the kids to get in and out of. Bottom line - it was a mistake to get the Pilot over a minivan, even an AWD Sienna. With that said, it is still an awesome vehicle and anyone looking for a mid- size SUV should have this as #1 on their list.
Great SUV
I purchased my 2006 Honda Pilot 2WD six months ago as the 2nd owner. My Pilot had 218,000 and I put 12,000 miles on it in six month using it as a daily driver and for Lyft. I have replaced the alternator thus far. I am satisfied with my Pilot thus far. It cranks all the time and drives well. I'm hoping to get 300,000 miles.

Safety ratings won me over
I bought my Pilot just 5 months ago with 42,000 miles on it. It lacked some of the exterior style elements of the competition, but the interior features seem to fit our lifestyle better. The determining factor was the safety rating. This vehicle won out, hands down! Lucky for me, because last week I totaled my poor Pilot. This vehicle did exactly what it was supposed to do. Protect the occupants. My car's front end was totally smashed, the hood was folded nearly as high as the roof and I was protected in the cab. Other than bruises from the restraints and air bag deployment I am fine and totally amazed. So now the painful part, finding another one.
Rock solid, easy to drive, great family vehicle
We bought this 2006 Honda Pilot with 14,000 miles on the odometer and could not be more pleased. The Pilot now has 216,000 miles on it and runs as good as the day we bought it. Maintenance over the years has been brakes , rotors , a timing belt at 140,000 miles. Other than standard upkeep , the radiator was replaced ( pin hole leak ) and an alternator around 200,000 miles. We still make comfortable trips from Ma to Nyc.It is still the vehicle of choice when transporting the grandchildren to various functions ,soccer and hockey games. We have even had two adults in the third row seat for one of our evenings out. We will now look at a 2016 Pilot because my daughter wants this one. Great Car. Hope the new Pilot is as good.

The pilot that could
The pilot that could do anything arrived in my Facebook marketplace search and for only $3600. It had 174557 miles on it and needed some tlc on the inside (headliner, a good scrubbing, and some Apple CarPlay) but it is somehow one of the most comfortable cars I have ever driven. Now some 17 months later we are knocking on the door of 190,000 miles and the pilot is still going strong, makes me really appreciate the simple engineering approaches made by the design team at Honda in the early 2000’s. We have the ex-l 4WD trim and I have to say, this pilot has done it all so far and has not gotten stuck ever. This is the pilot that could, the pilot that could do anything if you just bought one. Our pilot is the first Honda for us, and will not be the last, and with a baby on the way it makes me feel good that we have a car that will meet our growing family’s needs well I to the future. I just took it on a bachelor weekend from Jacksonville Florida to Asheville North Carolina and, being stuffed with 6 men and all of their gear, it didn’t only get us there and back but it returned -17mpg. Not too shabby. If you are reading this and considering buying one of this vintage, do it.

A True Friend!
This is a dependable, low maintenance car that drives beautifully even after 10 years and over 170,000 miles. My two boys grew up in this Pilot. It's taken us to soccer matches, water polo tournaments and family vacations throughout the years. This has been reliable daily commuter and a comfortable long trip choice for our household. The maintenance has been reasonable and it has never stranded us. All repairs have been in line with the expected life of its parts and we kept it on schedule with recommended service cycles.

My life with my Pilot
I have had my 2006 Honda Pilot since it was new. When I bought it I was a single-dad with three kids, none of them driving. This was the perfect car to take them and their friends to sport practices, scouting and to school. This was also a great car on vacations. This care never let me down. In 185,000 miles this car never broke down once and does not leak oil. The engine is as strong today as when I bought it. Overall a GREAT car!

We love our pilot
Oir Honda Pilot is the best. It is so versatile and big yet drives like a small car. We have never brought the car into a repair shop for anything more than scheduled maintenance. I swear this car will run for ever. The interior has supportive seats and after 100k there is not a tear in the drivers seat leather not even wore out. Really good on the snow stability control barges in exactly when u need it. It is really just like a box so visibility is crazy good. Rearward visibility is as good as it gets with a back up camera. The only feature I would like on this pilot is just a little more horse power and torque it never feels stressed but I just LOVE power.
Great car but constant engine knocking
I like my 06 Honda Pilot yes it is older but the car only has 80,000 miles on it and the engine seems to always knock it is embarrassing the car is great inside runs well but people look at my car when it's idle because of the loud knocking of the engine I have researched the problem and turns out a lot of people have this problem on this car other than that I love my pilot!

2006 honda pilot LX 4WD
I purchase my suv brand new...After putting 76k miles the car still drives really good. Just the regular maintenance and haven't have any problems. I notice a few a bad reviews about the SUV. Would it be possible that previous owner did a bad job on maintenance. I always follow the maintenance minder which saves me a lot of money. Sometimes dealership want you offer all this extra maintenance which does not require you to do it. I used to drive a X5 but the maintenance and gas killed me. I have no kids but i always enjoy driving SUV. A friend of mine drives a 2006 LEXUS GX470. I still like the ride on my awesome PILOT.
Window mechanisms are TRASH!!!!
Purchased our 2006 Pilot EX-L used in 2014 with 119k miles. Great car for around town, road trips and home depot 😂. The engine is great and the leather interior is nice. What’s HORRIBLE are all four windows. They take turns falling down in the door frame without notice. We’ve had to replace a four a couple of times. Our auto glass place said what holds up the glass is CRAP! Even the Honda dealer only gives a one year guarantee on the replacement. Seriously!!! We have never experienced anything like this with a car. There are plenty of complaints about this on the internet, even a failed class action lawsuit, but Honda won’t admit there is an issue and they won’t take any responsibility for it. Oh, but they will charge $400 per window to fix it until if fails again.

An Excellent vehicle
I brought my pilot used with 45,000 miles on it back in May of 2009. Its been a very good suv and very proud of my pilot. I wrote an review about my pilot before and wanted to write another review. Its has almost 103,000 miles on it with no issue at all. The check engine light has came on two times before and found out that there was some water in the fuel from the gas station but did not cause any harm to engine but made the engine misfire and did not feel the misfire. I always change the oil every 5000 miles using the best oil. I change the transmission fluids every 10 to 15,000 miles and other services needed and its pretty cheap services needed. Good gas mileages for the size of suv.
Great SUV!
Pros: Space, power, storage, safety. Cons: mileage, non-optional 3rd row, non opening back glass I bought a 2006 Pilot EX 2WD almost 1.5 months ago and have put ~ 1200 miles on it. I've done a pretty even mix of highway and city driving and a good mix with the A/C and without. When I decided I wanted to trade in my 99 Nissan Sentra I knew I wanted something that could easily haul around 2 big dogs and possibly 3. The 3 in the running ended up being the Toyota Highlander, Saturn Vue and the Pilot. To be honest after only a few miles I knew a Pilot was what I wanted. The others just didn't compare. It handles well and came with a lot of standard things other SUVs didn't have.
Our first SUV
Pilot 2006 is our first SUV. We bought it brand new and put 40K on it and it is as reliable and dependable as it was on day 1. I love the way they equipped it with very cheap maintenance. We get family over a lot and Pilot hauls up to seven adults with no compromise on performance. Leather quality and color, touch screen navigation, very comfortable seats, roomy and classy.
Honda Pilot '04
This vehicle rides as smoothly and quietly as any car and is a pleasure to drive. It is easily manuverable, corners well, and is not sluggish in passing situations. Gas mileage is acceptable for this type of vehicle and the interior features are easily utilized and convenient. It is asthetically pleasing and turns heads, which is uncommon for a SUV. It lives up to Honda's high quality standards and is user friendly, both for family and individuals. It is roomy inside and able to haul a lot of cargo, kids, supplies, etc. Seating configuration is good and easily modified and accessed. I really cannot think of anything I dislike about the Pilot.
Finally - The Perfect SUV!
My wife and I are both teachers and research nuts when it comes to purchasing a new vehicle. We have always had good fortune with Honda and a few of the Toyotas weve owned, but after six months with our Pilot, weve come to the conclusion that this is the first vehicle weve owned that has performed to perfection. Were averaging over 22 mpg, (city and some freeway), and the comfort on long trips is spectacular. We had a mishap driving into L.A. with an obstacle on the freeway at 75 mph we had to jerk the wheel and switch lanes then back again to avoid a crash. The VSA (vehicle stability assist) worked as advertised and saved our lives. Thank you, Honda, for surpassing our expectations.
Its a Trooper
We purchased a 2006 Pilot new it now has 195000 miles its been the most reliable vehicle we've ever owned we've had to replaced the catalytic converters and timing belt in addition to the normal parts that wear down in our opinion older Honda's are built to last but some of the new ones have bad technology this pilot is still truckin

Beater Car
Bought my pilot in 2017. 2006 pilot with 90k miles. Almost 3 years later sitting on 155000 miles. Vehicle has been outstanding with reliability considering it's been in 3 accidents prior to purchase. Only problem was a/c went out last year and radiator had a leak so had it replaced. Besides that vehicle has been great. Maybe should have bought a Toyota but is the next best candidate especially for the price I paid. No complaints. Actually only complaint is the dam catalytic converter. Won't be replacing but mine is shot. Will run this thing into the ground. No matter how long it takes. And I expect it to be a while.

Great SUV
Very nice car to own. Navigation system is very clear and easy to use and personalize with your own choice of colors, voice (male/female), etc. Rides great, powerful engine, and seems to be a very solid and well built vehicle. My only two gripes are fairly minor ones. 1) After parking and turning off the ignition, you can't open the door unless the door is unlocked first. I've never been in a car where you can't just open the door from the inside regardless of whether or not the door is locked or unlocked. Fairly annoying to always try to open the door, then realize it's locked, flip the lock open, then go back to open it again. 2) Stereo sound quality could be much better.
Very Happy owner of my pilot
I wrote a review about my Honda Pilot last year of May, and wanted to write another review again because I am still very happy with my vehicle. When I brought it the odo was reading 44,500 miles on it, and now its has 69,500 miles and its been a great vehicle with no problems nothing. Took the trip to Colorado from Texas and I was getting 26 to 29 mpg on the Highway. In town still getting 19 to 22 mpg with a little highway mix in. The best mpg was 32 and it's only happened once and the road was flat and getting tail wind coming home from Florida so it was almost 650 miles on a tank. I change the oil every 4 to 5000 miles and change the transmission fluids twice. I am planning to keep it long.

Great SUV
Original owner with 85k miles. Other than routine maintenance, which is inexpensive, we haven't had to spend a nickel on this vehicle. Previous SUV was an Explorer so the reliability was a nice change. Comfort is good although a telescoping steering wheel would be nice. Mileage is as advertised.
Has lasted 200,000 miles
200,000 miles report: 98K and 138K had cam shaft each side replaced - and timing belt. Radio knobs barely work. Headliner ceiling sagging, drinks some oil and the power steering pump is going bad and the front chassis needs replacement soon. Those costs may mean selling. Accelerates nicely and the a/c is awesome. Plus, the roomy 3-row interior is great in this 2006 Honda Pilot.

Should be the "Standard" for SUVs
105,000 miles and I've had one repair - the radiator. Otherwise, just routine maintenance. Goes through anything once you replace the lousy OEM tires. No rattles after 5 years - nothing. Just incredibly solid. Have had 8 adults in it, with no complaints. Can haul stuff and people. Family of 5 to the beach? No problem. Big visit to Lowe's? No problem. Handle a Buffalo winter? No problem. Great highway vehicle. Superb comfort for long drives. You feel very safe in it. Traction control and Stability control work great. Great mileage for its size and hauling capability. 18 around town. 22 on the highway.
The 11 year veteran
This car went through so much and was very reliability it ended its life with a outstanding 310,000 miles and only one major repair at 180,00 miles the transition died. Our family put plenty of miles per year on the car, near the end of its life averaging almost 40,000 miles a year. The car ran really well as long as we maintained it properly. at around 270,000 miles the engine began to burn oil pretty bad but it lasted 40,000 miles more. overall great car for a kids first car or family car because it is very roomy!! would recommend 10/10!

2006 Honda Pilot - Awesome trusted family car
We bought our 2006 Honda Pilot EX-L used in 2009 with 24k miles on it. We finally gave it to a family friend with 175,000 miles on it after just putting in a new starter and deciding we would not put more money into it to fix an exhaust leak. The friend sold it for $2500. My wife and I raised our family with the Pilot as our “big car” (4 kids). My kids all learned to drive with it, we moved kids in and out of college and apartments, drove long distances on vacation. Everyone loved the Pilot to the point after the last repair as it started showing it’s age - rust rear fender wells and spare tire area underneath and following 2 months of trying to diagnose and fix an intermittent starting problem, we turned around and bought a 2017 used Pilot ex-l hoping it is half as good as the 2006. The SUV was bullet proof, pleasant to drive long distances loaded to top with kids and dogs, driving in heavy deep snow or driving rains. Sure footed reliable, beyond seagulls maintenance never needed much of anything - one rather expensive repair was replacing the oxygen sensor on the catalytic converter at around 140k - difficult to get to but beyond that this was one of the most reliable cars we ever owned. When sold everything still worked except for the leaking exhaust and I was still periodically hauling a 3000lbs boat. Everyone misses it and I prefer the 2006 Pilot style to the newer pilots which are nice but different but hopefully as reliable as the 2006

Bought Pilot over Highlander
We had leased a Highlander and opted to not purchase at lease end in favor of the Pilot. We could not be happier. Definitely a better ride due to the weight of vehicle. Can't complain about the gas mileage, very good for this mid size SUV. Vehicle now has around 50,000 (21,000 from us). Used the 4wd this winter and it performs extremely well. Engine is very quiet. Make sure the VTM fluid is changed regularly. Overall a very nice vehicle.
Just an average Honda Pilot
I have had my Pilot for 18 months now. It has creaking noise from the door seals and driver's side B-pillar. Every time when I have an oil change at the dealer, the service guy lubes all the seals for me. The noise from the seals usually go away after being lubed. But it will come back once the lube dries out. The noise from the B-pillar was never fixed, even after three, four attempts. My Pilot also have broken / leaking struts that have to be replaced. I am kind of shocked with the quality. Gas consumption is so so...averaged 18- 20 mpg with mixed city and highway driving, pretty close to the advsertised number of 18-24 mpg.
Wishing it would live a little longer
It only has 215,000 miles and the crankshaft sensor warning needs replacing plus both catalytic converters need replacing as well. The repairs cost more than the vehicle is worth. I had hope for 300,000 miles.

Transmission
Love the pilot we had a range Rover, ml430 and a BMW x5 before our Honda every service was over 4k the Honda just turned 100k and the service is under 1k wow it runs great and doesn't need lots of maintenance like our high end suvs I am a believer in Honda and love it very practical money saving car
love it
I love pretty much everything about this car. It is a great alternative for those of us who don't want to drive a mini-van but still want to have all that room and comfort. Great space inside. I have sat in the third row with my son on an hour and a half drive and it was okay. I do not suggest any longer than that for adults, but plenty of space for the wee ones. I love the gear shift on the steering column, it frees up the center console for other things like my purse. It is a very comfortable car to drive and I drive over an hour to work. I love the fact that the second row of seats recline, it makes it so much more comfortable on a long drive.
Better Than the Envoy
Traded 2004 Envoy for my Pilot. So far, pretty good. Nothing has gone wrong that affects performance, anyway. Been to the dealer for clips in front seats (seat backs were squeaking). Brakes grinding and sound horrible, but told "They're fine, they're just not Honda". Passenger R side of seat doesn't heat. I still feel good getting behind the wheel. Feels very solid, sure, and safe. No issues with leather as others have had. No engine or transmission problems. Radio/nav work beautifully.
Try it before you buy
I had originally focused on 2005 Honda Pilot EX-L and got a price $27624,00. Before I put my money down, I did test drive on 5 Honda Pilot (2005 and 2006) on both local and highway speed. Under 65mph, they were very smooth. The engine ran very quiet. I have to say that I loved this vehicle very much when driving under 65mph. But when the speed exceeded 70mph, the steering wheel started vibrating. 70mph 80mph range was the worst. All 5 Pilots had the same problem. I couldnt tolerate that vibration. If you are willing to buy a Honda Pilot, drive it on both local and highway.
Best Vehicle Ever!
We have had our 2006 Honda Pilot since 2008 when we purchased it used with about 40,000 miles on it. We are now up to 256,000 miles (410,000 kilometres) and sad to say that it is starting to show its age and miles. We have had almost no problems with the vehicle over our 14 years of ownership until the last few months of ownership. The only negative is gas milage has declined over the years. We no longer need as large as vehicle and are downsizing to a Subaru Outback. It pains me to let the Pilot die but some rides have to end.

Bought a 2006 Honda Pilot and its pretty impressive. Owned a 2009 Toyota Tundra and loved it but sadly lost it in an accident. With 80000 miles on it still feels tight and gets great gas mileage. Wife wanted an SUV an this fit the bill with price and features. 8/8/2017--- Still Amazing even for a SUV that is over 10 years old...

So fun to drive!!
I downsized from a 2004 Suburban to my 2006 Pilot. I have previously owned a Civic and an Accord, and have longed for the day that I could get out of the "bus" and get back into a Honda. With a large family, I thought I would be waiting several more years to be able to achieve this, but the Pilot fits perfectly!! Admittedly, I did give up cargo room, but the only time we ever need it is on vacation, and I just couldn't see driving the "bus" around the other 51 weeks out of the year. I was initially scared of the mixed reviews on the mpg, but I got 14 mpg in the city in the Suburban and at this point, any improvement is welcome. I'm just thrilled with my new Honda Pilot. Don't miss it!!
Beware Front Seat Back Cover
We bought the Pilot new in '06 and started to have problems with the rear speaker--got it replaced but took 2 visits. The the tire sensor kept giving a code so the truck had to be taken in several times before they figured out the problem. The vehicle gives very good gas mileage on the average of 22 miles of combined city/highway driving. The ride is smooth and road noise doesn't seem to be a problem. Our main problem has been the front seat back cover which has fallen off 5-6 times in the past 1 1/2 years which entails multiple trips to the dealer for replacement. They don't understand the problem and neither do I. Honda America was of no help so this Honda may be the last one.
Design Flaws
We know 6 people with 06 or late Pilots- all have been into dealer because mice crawled into to HVAC. Why? It's not covered enough in undercarriage. Design flaw. $250 each visit. Side trim on front leather seat on ours (and 3 others wecknow of) has worn through. Why? Cheap material. Design flaw. We get snow. Don't buy a Pilot with 4WD and expect anything but nasty control issues on slippery roads and steep roads: ABS locks up, auto 4WD has no bite (even with new mud/snow tires). Design flaws. If you need room, good traction and no mice or trim issues, buy something else.
Best SUV for Family
The Honda Pilot is the best all around SUV for the average family. Decent fuel economy, good performance, nice features, terrific handling, and Honda Quality at an affordable price.
The perfect all-around vehicle
Bought in 2006. Drove I-90 from Erie to Buffalo for 15 months. With Michelin snow tires never got stuck, never had to slow down much in the winter. I've had 8 adults in it comfortably and 5 of us on vacation. Hauls people and their stuff. Great seat flexibility. Incredibly comfortable highway car. Consistently gets 20MPG. Haven't spent a dime of unexpected maintenance in 48000 miles. Road noise issue goes away once you replace the Bridgestone Duelers. Feels incredibly safe. Feels a bit big at first but easy to get use to. If I could only own one vehicle - and it had to do everything - this would be it.
From CR-V to Pilot
I just recently brought a Pilot and I love everything about this vehicle because of more space and comfort. I went from CRV to Pilot which was a huge upgrade. The CRV was a great small SUV but wanted something bigger for hauling things for my small business and to tow a camper trailer. It also gets great gas mileage for the sizes of the vehicle and been getting 21 and 22 mpg in town and a little highway mixed. Can't wait to drive it longer on the highway and see if it gets 26 mpg. It looks similar to the CRV but it's nicer inside and outside and it drives quiet and rides softer than the CRV.
Love my Pilot!
i bought the 2006 Pilot after owning a minivan for 5 years and I love my Pilot. The ride is very nice and the interior extremely comfortable. I have lower back problems and have never had any additional pain from driving the Pilot, even on long trips. The 3rd Row seats are wonderful for my children and quite roomy. I've read other reviews that state they don't receive very good gas mileage, but I keep track and I average about 17 mpg with mostly city driving so I am very happy with the performance. I will certainly look at the updated model when it is released to replace my '06 model. I truly love my Pilot!
2006 Pilot EXL with Entertainment system
Primarily bought for my wife, currently we have 12000 miles on the pilot and have had no problems. Great features such as the leather seats, DVD, AWD, and definitely a bargain compared to what other SUVs cost and charge extra for.
Noisy ErgoNot
I bought a Honda Pilot because of Honda's reputation and my need for an SUV. I traded in a fully-loaded, Ford Explorer Ltd Edition, that was a fun and reliable piece of luxury machinery. I came to realize that the Pilot is incredibly noisy on the highway. Every little creak and creep of the tires, body and plastic is amplified tenfold. Additionally, the egonomics are ErgoNOTmics. The steering wheel blocks the gauges. The steering controls are constantly being activated by my fingers, accidentally, while turning (very annoying and dangerous). The radio controls are backwards and difficult to reach with the seat completely back. The trip odometers are impossible to reset while driving, etc.
Good, but not great
I've owned this car for 15 months now. This is a very good, safe and reliable SUV. It's very solid with no rattles. However, there is more road noise that expected. The gas mileage ratings of 17/22 are a dream. Reality is more like 14/20. I've taken this vehicle on several 300 to 800 mile trips. I've soft pedalled the gas and kept the speed between 70 & 75. The best I've seen is 20 MPG. I would certainly recommend the Pilot, as long as you know ahead of time the mileage is overstated.
