Can't go wrong with a Pilot
We just got our of our 2004 Explorer. The Explorer is not even close to being on the same level!! Our kids love the DVD and my wife and I enjoy the XM radio. I don't know that we will ever own any other make of vehicle. The price is close to any comparable vehicle. It's really fun to drive and ride in.
Excellent Vehicle
An excellent choice in SUV's. More than adequate power, good handling and thus far exceedingly quiet on the road. Satelite radio is terrific, comfortable seats and plenty of room. All in all, a very good design, carried out extremely well. Safety scores are at the head of the class.

Love My Pilot
I purchased my 2006 Pilot new and never have had any service work done! I love my Pilot. Very nice ride.
Best SUV for Family
The Honda Pilot is the best all around SUV for the average family. Decent fuel economy, good performance, nice features, terrific handling, and Honda Quality at an affordable price.
Great Value
The rear entertainment system is great - the kids love it. For the price this has a lot of standard features that are included. We hope to keep it for a long time. Lots of head and leg room for tall people in the front.
Solid Car
I bought this car b/c are family was expanding to 3 kids. It is held up remarkably well and is a very solid car. It seats 5 kids easily. The ride in the front seats is good. The ride in the 2nd and 3rd rows is stiff (the bench seats are very stiff). I have had no problems with the car and I am up to 100k miles. For the money, it was an excellent buy. My one pain point with the car is the gas mileage...it is avg about 19 mpg which translates into a big fuel big for someone with a decent commute length.
Great SUV
Overall, great car. Lots of features for $$$. Drives like car. Plenty of room for hauling. Improvements, better leather seats and more precise handling. Optimal car for families w/ 2- 3 kids.
Just need better gas mileage
This car has never given me any head aches or left me stranded. Given it maintenance and has been a faithful car still running strong!

my first Honda
I bought this car from someone I work with, who let me have it for a fantastic price. I'd always wanted a Honda, not so much an SUV, but my old car(a Lincoln Town Car),which I've written a review about(still love it!),has over 200,000 miles on it, and sometimes you have to take advantage of an opportunity. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's an absolutely fantastic vehicle; It's comfortable, it rides beautifully(for an SUV),and it drives like a car! Fantastic brakes, good cornering ability; the steering may be a touch slow for a Honda(I've test driven several),but it's nicely weighted, accurate, and has good feel. Plus it sounds terrific! You can tell Honda builds race cars; this engine doesn't sound like it belongs in an SUV at all. Okay, fuel economy isn't that great; I actually get better in my Town Car, but that's the only negative I can think of. There is some road noise, but it's not that bad; what do people expect, it's an SUV. Reliability is top notch. It's 13 years old with 165,000 miles on it; I've had it for year and all I've had to do is change the oil, just like my Lincoln, for the most part. Also, I don't get why a few other people have said the interior and/or build quality is cheap; it's at least as nice, and in most cases a lot nicer, than any other car I've been in, which includes Toyotas(Hondas are nicer!), BMWs, Volvos, and GMs(definitely a lot nicer.) Overall, I would recommend this vehicle or any other Honda product to anyone!

We have had two pilots over the last 12 years, we only had a battery go bad, no other items except, brakes, wipers and oil changes.

Our first Honda and it's great!
We've have had the Pilot for a few weeks now and we love it. Much better than our previously owned Grand Cherokee. Interior is great, seats are comfortable. All around outside view is very good. The Pilot handles well for its size. Gas mileage is far better than the Jeep SUV, looking forward to a long trip in the Pilot, the ride is comfortable. Very responsive to acceleration and braking. The engine is quiet, ride at freeway speeds is also quiet and smooth. Navigation system is an excellent tool, the backup camera is a big plus for parking when backing in. Radio, CD and sound system performs very well. Side impact air bags another big plus for safety features. So far we made a very good choice.
2006 Pilot EXL with Entertainment system
Primarily bought for my wife, currently we have 12000 miles on the pilot and have had no problems. Great features such as the leather seats, DVD, AWD, and definitely a bargain compared to what other SUVs cost and charge extra for.
Great Car
We bought our Pilot brand new and we love it! We are a big trip family and have put about 71k miles on it. We love the comfort of the seats, and being able do car pool. The quality of the interior is great. Honda did a great job building this SUV
Hondas You gotta love 'em
We are a Honda family, we went from the Accord to the Cr-V then lastly to the Pilot, the change too a short minute to get used to, the size of the vehicle is a jump up from the CR-V, and the power is a great big leap of fun, the power of the v-6 and the ease of the excelaration to merge onto the highway is for lack of a better word "Cool".. The vehicle feels solid going around turns, has a smaller turning radius that the Accord, which surprised me. I live in NYC and we all know of the snow drifts from the sanitation trucks that gets pushed next to your car, they were no problem at all, to climb over with the power the Pilot. I would recommend it to any one.
King of SUV
Has been using this from May 2006. Had around 26K miles. Driven from East Coast to West Cost. Most comfortable to drive. Mileage is 16-20 which is OK for the size of this vehicle. Navigation & rear view camera are the best in its class. While driving in Nebraska at 75MPH. Suddenly We thought the engine was shut off. It was so quiet. If the roads are bad then there is s lot of road noise. The SUV behaves more like a car then an SUV. I used it in almost all weather conditions, The vehicle is rock solid. Use the vehicle for 3 months. Then it becomes a part of your life. I heard similar comments from other owners. The only flip side is No iPod Jack & DVD entertainment.
Not Happy
In the short time I have owned the 2006 Pilot I have to say I am very disappointed. The vehicle has a defective ECM chip that causes great distortion in the radio. At the time of this review Honda does not have a fix for this problem. There is a strong wind noise when you roll down one or more windows. The air actually vibrates and flutters causing your ears to hurt. After buying a third Honda in just over two years this could be my last. If you are thinking of buying this vehicle, be sure you know what you will be getting into.
Disappointing Reliability (Annoying)
I got it with 50k miles for $19k in 2009. It was in mint condition with all of the service records included. I thought, "Honda?, how could I go wrong?" Well, I've learned since then that Honda SUV's aren't all they're cracked up to be. Within a year, the front headlights and parking lights inexplicably went out all at once. No warning light, no sign of a short circuit. I replaced all of them, and no issues since then. Next, the idiot light for the gas cap intermittently came on. The gas cap seems to be like new, but I guess it's just temperamental? I don't know... It's a Honda, I shouldn't be dealing with these annoying issues. Next, the rear driver's side power window doesn't work
About as perfect an SUV as you can get
I've had my Pilot 2006 AWD for about 4 months now. It replaced a Nissan Titan so I'm not as squeamish about the mileage as others are. To me the mileage is pretty good and I drive 80 miles a day round trip and fill up about once a week on average. I was buying a half tank a day in the Titan!!! I have a family of 6 so we need the room and the third row is a necessity. Everyone who rides in it is surprised by how roomy it is inside. It's all Dr. Who Tardisy in there. Way bigger inside than it looks on the outside.
Beats a Volvo V70
I have finally taken my Pilot EX-L w/entertainment system on a road trip and I'm very pleased. Mileage with cruise on most of the time was 24 mpg. The trip was 6 hours long, I only stopped once and was very comfy the whole time. I loved the XM radio and 6 CD stereo on this trip and all the space in the vehicle made placement of maps, drinks, cell phone and snacks very convenient. I had to dodge road debris several times at 80 mph and the Pilot handled beautifuly. It also rained on this trip and the handling was no different. I traded in my 2000 Volvo V70 for this and I only wish I had done it sooner. My husband drives a 2000 Accord and we are convinced Honda is the way to go.
Horrible On Gas!
I read all these great reviews about the Honda pilot having good gas mileage for its size, well guess what? NOT TRUE! Horrible! 10 - 12 miles in the winter city driving, and 13-14 in the summer city driving. On the highway I would get about 18 mpg. Where did they get 18 city and 24 hwy? I had it for not even 2 years and got rid of it. I'm not here to only insult the gas mileage. it was reliable and I had no problems with it. The Japanese still have a lot of work when it comes to the mid-size suv segment. More torque than horsepower! Is it that hard for Honda to do that? Apparently yes. I guess they should stick to small lightweight cars. Up next for me? Definitely not the '09 Pilot
Buy German
Good on the highways, that's the only good part. Bought the one with a Navigation that has all outdated maps, windshield wipers that do not clean, bug paste literally sticks to low-quality windshield, lousy stereo (multiple problems with the subwoofer) and above all a not a great drive. Engine may be nice, but not fuel efficient if you want to feel a little of the rush. Body is literally made of tin !! Listen to me, buy something German, everything else is a cheap imitation !!! I plan to promptly return this after my lease, but wanted to save a few souls from getting into a similar trap !!!
Black Beauty
This Honda is in great condition at a great price. The Seller was great to work with and made sure mechanically that everything my mechanic recommended was done. Very easy purchase. This car is for my grandson, he's extremely happy with his first car and off to college a happy guy.

Pilot vs. Highlander
Moved from a Highlander to the Pilot for more seating comfort. Pilot is great in the year I have owned it. Reliable and spacious although there is more road noise than the Highlander. Still in summary I am glad made change.
My Best Car
My 2006 Honda Pilot was my first SUV. It is also the first vehicle I have owned that never required a visit to the dealer or repair shop. It was perfect from the day I started the engine. I have owned GM and Chrysler products in the past, so have a pretty good basis of comparison. A Honda will be my next choice.
Best value in a Family SUV
I wasn't a big fan of the exterior design of the Honda Pilot, but the changes made in 2006 made it a lot more appealing, eventhough the changes were minor. The interior is much improved as well...esp. the dashlighting. The SUV drives more like a luxury car than a truck. The EX comes with a ton of standard features esp. new safety features like side curtain airbags and Stability control. Features I would have had to pay thousands more on the Sequoia I was also considering. So far the fuel economy has been pretty good(@20mpg) for a large SUV with the best being 22.5mpg on mostly highway driving. Had a chance to test the AWD in some snow over christmas and the Pilot passed with flying colors
LOVE this car!
We recently got the EX with navigation system to replace our station wagon. I am having such a great time with this car. The drive is smooth and the power is impressive. The interior space is great, with room for a family and all the stuff that goes with it. There are so many extra features that make the whole experience so much more than any car I have owned before. The rear-view camera that comes with the navigation system is wonderful with children, pets and toys in the driveway. The audio system is awesome and is equipped with satellite radio. Drive one and I think you will have to have one.
Best Safest Suv Made Hands Down
I have Had my Pilot for almost three years now and I still love getting into it every day. I had a Toyota Rav-4 before. The Pilot is the most comfortable, safest, reliable vehicle I have ever driven. I drive 350 miles round trip to my beach house and after 7 knee operations this is the only vehicle that can get me there pain free. If you read a bad review about the Honda Pilot it was probably a rare lemon which can happen with any vehicle.
Honda 2006 Pilot EX 4WD Success!
Have had my Honda Pilot now for 2 years, just passed 50k miles! Still an outstanding value, even if the mileage (urban 18mpg; Highway 21mpg) is not best. Great value, low maintenance, high utility for a mid-sized SUV and does extremely well in mid-atlantic winter ice/slush. Better than my previous Ford SUVs (Explorer, Bronco) and Mustang! Pilots rock! 3rd-seat roomy enough for 6 (not 8) adults or 2 large dogs! EX model AWD Pilot is a great total value SUV!
Great for the Money
This is my wife's SUV; replaced an Oddy (bad trans, bad cat converter at 112K). Have nearly 40K miles in 1.5 years; back/forth to a lake house we have. Also do a lot of antiquing/hauling. Looked at everything before buying, and very happy with purchase. I see the suggested improvements on the review boards, but we have had no real issues and it's the best deal for the money, hands-down. Little noisy on the highway, really does better with high test gas, but overall we really like the overall quality and reliability (with my wife on the road alone a lot). BTW: we get about 22/18 mpg.
My 7th and final Honda
After owning 6 Hondas (cars) we were in the market for something with more space. This is a great fit that suits our needs. The fuel mileage on mine is much better than reported for every tank I calculate, never less than 20 but as high as 25 on a long trip, no complaints there. Where the big disappointment comes in is road noise and rattles. Car has been back to dealers (2) numerous times for rattles but for some reason they continue on. Although we've been loyal Honda buyers for many years, this is beyond annoying and will have to look beyond Honda for future purchases.
Happy Pilot Owner
We purchased the EX-L with Navigation. Navi is great and easy to use. Very helpful when traveling in an unfamiliar city. The ride is smooth and engine is very quiet. Back-up camera is great also (lots of little kids on our street running around). Have had some problems with the audio not having sound at times. Still working on this, but Honda did extend our warranty.
2006 Honda Pilot EXL
I have owned many vehicles in my days, and this is my absolute favorite. The ride is amazingly quite and smooth for a truck. Because the residual value is so high (61%) and the low money factor being offered by Honda (I think .00115) there are great lease deals. I looked at the new 2006 Explorer first and it can't hold a candle to the Pilot.
Very Happy
Purchased at the end of the model year and got about as good of a deal as you can get on a Pilot. We've owned a few SUV's prior to the Pilot - all were more off-road capable, truck-based SUV's. Bottom line - the Pilot is perfect for us. The car-like handling, fuel consumption and responsiveness trump the abstract notion of off-road capabilities. This a family hauler. After comparing a lot of vehicles, the Pilot had more usable space than anything in its class. The interior is simple, but very nice. Hard to beat in the sub $35k class. Hard to justify additional $8k for MDX.
Interior not very well made
I am very disappointed with the leather interior, The quality of the material is less than cheep. Within the first month of ownership a seam in the front drivers seat split. My car now has 20,000 miles on it and both the front seats where you get in on the side are falling apart. What they told me was leather is pulling away from the seam and tearing. I had many other issues about the interiors shoddy workmanship when I first purchased my car. It seems that Honda really cut corners when it came the the quality of the interior. I will never buy another Honda again. Did not get my money's worth.
My Little Honda Pilot
I never knew how good a vehicle could be until I had this one! We LOVE it! I think it gets pretty good gas mileage, 18-19 in town and 21 or so on the highway. It has just enough room for us in case we have to leave during hurricane season, myself, my hubby, my son, 2 dogs, 3 cats, 1 turtle (and a partridge in a pear tree maybe - lol). It rides smooth, shifts smooth and I have had many compliments on it! My next vehicle will definitely be another Honda pilot!
No Surprises... It's a Honda!
Having owned Hondas in the past, it came as no surprise that our Honda Pilot would be a great, solid and reliable mode of transportation. We wanted a dependable vehicle that would be large enough to hold 5, plus our large German Shepherd dog, yet still be fuel efficient and able to get us through the snowy Wisconsin winters. No Surprises. And no regrets!
Loving It
I have had my Pilot for 4months And love it. There is so much storage in the front. You get a huge arm console. Inside contains a cell phone charger and a 12v outlet. Under the radio dash there is a sliding door to put more nick-nacks like pens, hair clips and anything else. We have 2 car seats on the sides and I am 5'5 150lb and sit comfy bw them. For your info, We have the Graco Safe seat behind the passenger b/c At 5'5 I can not put the drivers seat in a comfortable position, and the seat can not be reclined. We have the dvd system with the car and it works like your dvd player at home. I did not read the directions or watch the dvd movie it comes with. Very easy. It drives like a car.
2006 Honda Pilot EX 2WD
The Honda Pilot is an efficient blend of practicality and good looks. It rides and handles well with a solid feel, and has plenty of room for passengers and cargo. It accelerates strongly yet averages over 20 mpg in every-day traffic. The V6 uses only 3 cylinders under light load, yielding about 25 mpg on the highway. Reliability after one year and 12,000 miles has been perfect.
Wendy's Wonderful Ride
I have had nothing short of a fantastic experience with my Pilot. The ride is comfortable, seat belts for everyone, room galore, great heating/cooling, and a great stereo from the factory. I've driven it long distance (2500 mi) and had no troubles of any kind...no mechanical nor body aches either. The seat comfort is unbelievable until you ride in it for a time. It offers enough support for long distances and is firm enough for 4-wheeling. I love my Pilot...though I'd like to customize the interior to suit my needs a little better.
Great SUV
We purchased in April after owning MBZ 320, & 2- Expeditions. Evaluated Grand Cherokee, Toyota's, Accura MDX. Liked MDX but $7k more for upgraded "Pilot" was not worth it, so we got the EX-L. Mileage 22 hwy consistent at 75, great interior design, room, comfort, creature features galore-well thought out compared to MDX base model, Pilot is a great value ~ like 6 cd in dash standard. Speakers not so good with 155 w, 7 speaker system, so we did aftermarket upgrade to Eclipse~ 1000% improvment. Road noise from Goodyear's; can't wait to replace w/ Michelins. Overall, great value.
Perfect choice in this class...
After a long and exhaustive research, I opted for the Pilot EXL with Navi. I was going to wait for the 07 but with no change... why bother. Besides getting a price way below invoice was well worth it. I love the fact that this SUV have most if not all of the amenities I wanted. The only thing that I was hoping for was a DVD system ... but they don't offer it with the Navi. I figured if they did, less people will be looking at the Acura version. Overall, I've put in about 5K miles already and still like driving it. I've been tracking my mpg (combined) and only getting 18-19. The best was 23 and the worst was 16 mpg.
Great vehicle
Greetings to all, this is my first purchase of a vehicle from Japan and I have to say this "I'll never buy anything else" again. My wife and I both love this vehicle, I am 6'2" & my wife is 5'2" we both fight over who is driving this vehicle on the next long trip! She hated my Jeep! Oh well, Honda & Toyota have it going on and the & Camry was the other choice, I went with the Pilot due to my size and the ease of entry for me. The Camry was a lot quieter though at 100MPH, yeah, I live in Germany right now & love the Autobhan here!! :) Ciao
Happy w/ the Purchase
I bought this vehicle for my wife. It is our first SUV. We went from a Mitsubishi Galant and I have had several pick up trucks. My wife loves this thing and so do I. I am pleased w/ the engine, smooth ride, and the overall features and roominess of the vehicle. Looks great and rides great.
Great cruiser & good mileage
I drive a lot, almost all highway and what a great highway cruiser this is. Plenty of room for my 3 kids and then some, great for vacation and still gets 20MPG at 75MPH. Feels incredibly safe and well built. VERY smooth ride. Basic cloth on EX is gorgeous so passed on the leather, which saves 2-4K. And with a price under $29K, a tremendous value.
MDX or PILOT
I purchased the Honda Pilot really wanting the MDX but after looking at the price tag realized the Pilot was a better option. Vehicle drives nicely and the interior design is comparable to most luxury SUV's. Seats feel great and the ride is similar to that of a car. I bought this vehicle for my growing family and because of the Honda name and reputation, I know this vehicle will last for many years.
2006 LX
We've had our 2006 for about a month. Overall we find it to be a solid and easy to drive vehicle. It has all of the features that we need and plenty of room. A rattle in the suspension and an annoying vibration during acceleration detract from our enjoyment of the vehicle. Hopefully these can be corrected on the first service visit.
Pilot
I purchased a 2006 Pilot LX AWD during the Honda year end clearance. I like this vehicle very much. I also own a Honda Civic so I am familar with the Honda vehicles. We recently took a 600 mile trip and I average 23 - 24 MPG. This was done by driving in the 60 - 65 mile per hour range. This is my first 4x4 and I like the way the Pilot drives and feel on the road.
Love my Pilot
My lease ends in 7 months and I will really miss this vehicle. I have owned several new cars including other SUVs and this is by far my favorite car ever. The size of the car is wonderful but it does not feel too large when driving it. It has great acceleration even at 40,000 miles. Hands down best features for the price. I'm either buying this car at the end of the lease or getting the new body style. No complaints!!
