Used 2017 Honda CR-V Consumer Reviews
2017 CR V…love it
3/27/24—65000 miles—-not one problem since day one. Hard to think why I would not buy another CRV in the future. The Hyundai Tuscon hybrid is the only other car I would consider at the $40k price point. It comes with many more bells and whistles, but recent reports claim the real MPG is much lower than stated. Maybe the ‘25 model year might be better………55000 miles 3/26/23–car does not disappoint in any way—size, fuel consumption, structural integrity. No mechanical problems after 6 yrs of ownership . Might consider a new Hybrid CRV in the future , but no rush at the moment 51000 miles and still love the car. Took a 400 mi trip past week and got 38mpg!!! I would like a new car, but why ? Four years of ownership , no problems, great gas mileage. Next car might be the CR V hybrid. Mar 23,2021–after 45000 miles I still love the car and have had no problems. At 30k I put on a new set of Michelin tires, and had car serviced at dealer every 5k. Will switch to my local mechanic for the next service. Would buy the car again........2018>>The car is 6 months old and I am still loving it. Would recommend it to anyone who wants a small SUV.. I never owned an SUV and never wanted one!!!!. My VW Golf (loved it!!!)lease was coming to an end and l looked at Mini Cooper, Mazda 3 and Impreza with an eye to getting something with a little more room ,yet fun to drive. The 2018 Crosstrek caught my eye since it was built on the 2017 Impreza platform with great reviews and a cargo area designed to meet our nee Update: After one year of ownership I had no problems with the car and still enjoy driving it every day. 27,000–after two years of ownership I still love the car. No problems. The Michelin tires need to be replaced this winter for best all wheel traction. Local tire shop suggested Defender tire when I replace the Premier tires. Premiers wear quickly in first 30,000 miles, but will go another 10-15k if not driven in snow. Defender are rated much better. March 23,2020—still give the car a 10 rating after 33,000. Replaced tires with Michelin Defender which are great. Mileage continues to be in low 30’s most of the time except in very cold weather which is to be expected.

bad customer service
Look closely at paint especially the lift gate....underneath mine had like paint bubbles or runs and now it is chipping off...found several on lots with the same thing...just have not chipped off yet....customer service was the worst...don't expect help from corporate because they do not care...I have owned several Honda's and asked them if they were ok with the fact that they would lose me as a customer...and they had no concern

very good overall except for the seats
I test drove a 2016 CRV and thought the driver seat was very comfortable but the ride wasn't so comfortable. Then I drove a 2017 CRV and thought the ride and quietness were better and I didn't really notice the seat. Driving around town the driver seat is ok, but when I drive out of town I get a low backache. I've tried adjusting the seat several times, but it is too soft and non-supportive. I called Honda and told them. They said to get a seat cushion but didn't recommend any. It is a shame they put a lot of good stuff in this car but skimped on the seats. Also, there is no cd player but I'm told that is the trend now. 11/12/17 It is still a very good car. I've had no problems with it. My only complaints are the driver's seat is too soft and no cd player. 05/15/18 It is still a very good car. The only problem I had was an animal crawled up in the engine compartment and died. So there was a bad smell. I took it to Honda and they changed the cabin filter. It helped but there still is a smell when I start the car I would like to get rid of. 05/18/21 I've had problems with batteries going dead and had to replace the battery twice (fall of 2018 and winter of 2021). There are also some glitches in the screen I told the Honda dealer about--like messages that I don't understand. They checked the software and it was up to date, so they didn't do anything about them. 5-19-22 No major issues with my car. I have been frustrated a few times by the navigation system however. It seems to get lost at times.

Thinking of naming my CR-V Rusty
2017 CR-V Touring starting to rust after half a winter. Chrome trim on tail gate, exhaust trim, and along bottom of doors ($1400 in parts) is noticeably corroding after the first 6 weeks of winter. Schomp Honda (CO) and Honda America both say the observed corrosion is caused by magnesium chloride applied to the roads and is not the result of defective material performance because it's due to "outside and unforeseeable influences." Aren't all parts of the vehicle subject to "outside influences" the moment you drive it off the lot? And if those parts begin to fail within a few months then there is something wrong. Dealer and Honda admitted that they've seen this corrosion on many other Honda vehicles. Honda knows that mag-chloride has been used since mid 1990s, so shouldn't they have designed parts that wouldn't corrode halfway through the first winter? In fact, some chrome parts (front grille) are not corroding yet and appear to be designed or treated differently. After owning Honda cars for about 35 years I'm extremely dissatisfied with Schomp dealer and Honda and will never buy a Honda again.

Everything I Wanted and More!
I have always owned small , economy cars, mostly Toyota Corollas. In 2008 I purchased a Civic, which I was still driving until purchasing this new CR-V . I love technology and gadgets and I was interested in a car with more up to date features. I also needed something with a little more room, so I test drove and researched a variety of SUVs. I chose the CR-V based on the excellent reviews , resale values, reliability, safety and price. All I can say is that this vehicle is amazing. The first day I picked it up we had a severe storm. I drove on the highway for hours in a downpour and was alerted when someone tried to pass too closely. The beeping startled me but it also saved me from an accident. The side mirrors light up and alarms go off. I was also very happy with the way it held the road and felt sound. Last week as I was backing out of my driveway someone came around our nearby corner too quickly. Again the alarm went off as I was within a few inches it seemed of being hit. A few times after late nights at work I have forgotten a turn signal or drifted a bit. The steering wheel vibrates and more alarms. It is so smart and works hard to keep you safe. The camera view is excellent but I still have to do it the old fashioned way. I have driven it for a month now and have been getting 28-30 MPG in mixed traffic. It runs smoothly, quietly and is a pleasure to drive, even in the economy mode. I admit that I am not driving for performance and am happy to see the green light. I love everything about my new CR-V. I was going to keep the Civic as I love that too but this vehicle makes me want to sell the Civic. I am trying to figure out some day trips just so I can drive my new vehicle more! The only thing I can say is frustrating is that the lift gate adjustment keeps resetting back to full height. The seat also remembers my setting but when I get out I move the seat back because I am short and drive up close to the wheel. It moves the seat back up before I get in..so if I leave it back when I get out, I cant get back in because it pushes the seat up close to the wheel, before I am seated. Of course these are small things and could be my user error. Great Vehicle...you will not go wrong with a CR-V.

26000 miles finally figured out that gas in oil
Update 2/1/19 figured out that gas is mixing with and have always noticed oil is very high on dipstick and runny oil smells of gas. Contacted dealer said there is a open recall on this problem and is a software update and got an appointment to do this. Scared its not going to help. Dont recommend this engine.

Packed with features, few complaints
Adaptive cruise control and lane assist make for frighteningly leisurely highway driving. One step below self-driving. Android Auto integration is amazing. I've been using Android Auto on my phone in an air-vent mount for years and this is just light years better. The feature list for the price is impossible to beat. Drives nicer and with a LOT less road noise than my 2009 CRV. A few minor complaints. Why in the world is the USB port with the data connection only 1.5AMP? There are two 2+AMP ports in the back, but the one that will be used every single time the owner gets in the car doesn't get turbo charging? Bizarre decision. Road departure protection has a tendency to trigger randomly when on less-than-great roads. So far I've been dealing with it and resisting the temptation to turn it off because I know if I turn it off it's likely to stay off and then it won't be there for me when I need it. Occasionally the computer says my phone isn't connected when it is and only unplugging/replugging will fix it. It has plenty of power for average commuting, I have so far never been tempted to turn off Eco mode. Averaging about 31.5 MPG without really trying and using Adaptive Cruise Control heavily.

No longer have this car. Good riddance.
Our CRV is just over three years old. Purchased new. We have put around 77,000 miles on it so far. The fuel economy is good. There is a lot of cargo space and the visibility out from the drivers seat is excellent. It has decent acceleration and holds the road well on paved and snow packed roads, but is somewhat unstable on on gravel or loose dirt. The traction control system has got us stuck in mud and snow both. If traction control is on, rocking the vehicle is quite problematic and it is impossible to get full power to the wheels. We now shut traction control and the fuel economizer off any time we are in snow or mud. The tire pressure monitors seem to get out of sync very easily which means you have to stop and go through the calibration process every couple of weeks. In December 2019 we experienced an extremely dangerous situation with our CRV. The bushing in the passenger side rear stabilizer bar became worn and unknown to us, fell out. That allowed the rear axle excessive front to back motion on one side and put excessive strain on the passenger side front McPherson strut severly damaging that. While negotiating a curve on a two lane road, the vehicle suddenly started zig-zagging violently from the shoulder across into the oncoming lane. It did that about three cycles before I got it stopped. I could see no obvious reason for the malfunction. Tires were fine, steering appeared normal. We drove very slowly into town and took it to the dealer. The service tech test drove it and came back white and shaking saying it put him completely off the road. The dealership repaired it, replacing the bushing and the front strut at a cost of around $600. The analysis was that this vehicle should not spend much time on gravel or other unpaved road. We were assured when making the purchase that our living at the end of 9 miles of gravel road would be perfectly fine and the vehicle was made for that. We are very concerned and are actively looking for a replacement before the driver's side rear stabilizer goes out and causes a serious accident. The interior noise levels are unacceptable. Compared with our previous vehicle, a 2013 Ford Escape, the noise level in the cab is terrible. At highway speeds, the road noise drowns out the sound system, so the Sirius and AM-FM radio are virtually useless. We have given up trying to use voice commands on the bluetooth phone link system. No matter how much we used it, the system could not recognize our commands, even basic things like "Call Carl at home" would get a long list of improbable possibilities among which to choose. We are both native English speakers and had NO problems with the SYNC system in the Escape. Did I mention that the noise levels in the cab are higher than any semi or dump truck I've ever driven ? The driver's display is pretty complex and can be very distracting when things get busy outside the car. The climate controls are a mixture of buttons and touch screen which is sort of the worst of all possible worlds. The plain old three knob climate control system without the touch screen would have been much more convenient and safer to use while driving. The remote start doesn't work when the temperature is below zero. That SUCKS. The console display is still exhibiting spells of irrationality. It either shuts down completely so there's no data available for audio, phone, climate control etc. or it starts dinging, peeping and flashing for no apparent reason. In order to get it to work again, we have to pull off the road. Shut everything off, turn off the engine, wait a minute or two, then start it up again. That seems to reset the system and it works fine again - until it doesn't. In August 2020 we took the CRV in to the dealer for a 75,000 mile service. Up till then we had seen no new issues with the car. About a half hour after the check up the check engine light came on. We took it back, they turned it off, said all was well. We got about three blocks away, it came back on. They wouldn't take it back in that day. We are having several different system warnings on the dashboard. In previous reviews, we have been marginally satisfied with the vehicle and would have recommend it as basic, utility-type transportation. It has never been a vehicle that invites long road trips and much needed to be done to make it worthy of a full recommendation. Since the safety issues arose, we are no longer in a position to recommend this vehicle to anyone who plans to use it on gravel or unimproved roads to any significant extent.

2017 CR-V is a lemon
In addition to prior issues the camera display/control panel randomly began flashing a variety of displays while driving. We took a cell phone video of it and were eventually able to bring it to the local Honda dealership for repair. A couple of months after the repair, it has started the mysterious random behaviors. The radio comes on without anyone touching the control. The phone randomly dials individuals in the phone directory - again, without anyone touching it! Recently we discovered another issue with the 2017. All four windows and the sun roof opened apparently on their own. We thought the car was broken into! Upon further research learned that this is a "feature " that Honda won't correct. We understand that many Honda CRV owners have had rain drenched vehicles as a result of this so called feature opening windows on its own. We can't recommend this vehicle based on our experience. Three transmissions in less than 6000 miles. Thankfully we have not needed a fourth. According to Honda the Bluetooth that stopped working is a problem with my phone not the car... No explanation as to why it worked at first and suddenly stopped. Car still has a high pitched whine upon acceleration only when the air conditioning is on. This was not the case until after the third transmission was installed but Honda Service says nothing is wrong. Still can't trust this vehicle to travel more than a few miles from home.

Impressive!
Just, wow! Picked up my 2017 CRV Touring 4 weeks ago and I absolutely love it. As soon as you slide in, the super cozy interior just makes you feel at home. Super comfortable, supportive seats with power lumbar support, attractive dash and control layout, soft materials everywhere, and a fantastic looking wood trim with a matte finish that looks like real wood. Overall, really high quality interior. The back seats have tons of leg and head room, plenty for a 6.2 friend to sit behind the driver. Rear seats are surprisingly as comfy as the front ones, with plenty of softness and leg and back support. The cargo area is huge for this sized SUV! I can fit 6 mountain bikes with the rear seats folded down, which is another big win win to me. As far as styling goes, it's definitely up to you to decide what you like. You may like the looks of another car better, but remember you'll always be sacrificing something. With this car, the interior sold me. I still don't hate the exterior though, it definitely turns heads (not in a bad way!), and I've gotten lots of compliments already. It looks modern, funky, stylish, and definitely has personality. I have zero complaints with this car so far! Do yourself a favor and test drive the CRV. You won't be disappointed!
