Used 2017 Honda CR-V Consumer Reviews
Mainstreaming Easy Driving
The nice steering of this vehicle sets it apart a bit from the RAV4 and Outback, the other two vehicles I shopped. It feels small when driving due to its ease of maneuvering and parking yet it is large inside the vehicle. The engine is very strong. It has great tire grip and traction in the snow. I really like using the electronic brake next to the transmission, as it allows you to take your foot off the brake pedal after you have stopped. Most significantly, the adaptive cruise control works great on the road and in city traffic. It smoothly follows other vehicles to keep the same space between cars, it brakes smoothly and appropriately when the car in front brakes, it "resumes" (you tap "resume" if you have come to a complete stop for longer than 2 sec) or accelerates and follows after the car in front very nicely, too. This reduces driving frustrations and I instead feel like I just cooperate with traffic. This brings us closer to self-driving cars. That said, the lane assist works most of the time but not all of the time. You have to make certain it's working before you take your hands off the wheel for whatever reason.

A 30 Year Honda Man ...
I loved this vehicle … my story: Purchased my 2017 Honda CR-V Touring in Black with Black Interior on Dec 30, 2016. I wanted a Red CR-V was not in love with the Molten Lava (Orangish Red) or the Basque Red Pearl (Maroonish) so we settled on the Crystal Black Pearl. I soon was adoring Black Beauty and added expensive accessories like the Interior Accent Lighting, Illuminated Door Sills, Fender Accents, Body Side Moldings, Rear Panel Protectors, Cargo Tray, Splash Guards, Wheel Locks and Blue Logo All Season Floor Mats. We also own a 2010 Honda CR-V EX-L that currently has approximately 66K and has given us no problems. I have been a Honda owner and advocate of Honda since 1989 when I purchased my first Honda, an Accord in Beige with Flip Up Headlights. I also have my two sons in Hondas, a 2014 Honda Civic EX-L Nav and a 2015 Honda Accord EX-L. I had to trade in at that time a Pontiac Grand Am that was having issues with deceleration when reducing speed through braking when decreasing from highway speeds. Since that time, we have owned a 1997 Honda Accord LX, a 1999 Honda Odyssey (trans issues-slipping from Drive to Neutral) which was traded in for a 2002 Odyssey (new engine), a 2005 Honda CR-V EX, 2008 Honda CR-V EX-L (Glacier Blue), 2010 CR-V EX-L (Urban Titanium) and finally the 2017 Honda CR-V Touring. My father and sister have purchased multiple Hondas over the past 10 years because of my belief in Honda. As I sat looking for the 2019 Honda CR-V colors, YouTube showed me a video of 2017-2018 Honda CR-Vs and an Oil Dilution Problem. Hmmm. I began to view and then began to read one after another consumer review indicating that all the Turbo 1.5L Earthdreams Engines are a mess (also, check your Civics and Accords – same issue). I couldn’t believe it. I stepped into my garage, looked at Black Beauty and pleaded “please no?” I popped the hood, pulled the dipstick, cleaned it, put it back in, pulled it and found the level was above the Maximum line. I smelled the stick and bam-Gas in Oil. November 28, 2018. 8501 miles. I saw where updates to software and a replacement of the A/C Control Unit. This was Honda’s “FIX” for the 2017 & 2018 CR-Vs and the soon to be and now released 2019 Honda CR-V (turbo engine). I held out hope that this would correct the problem. I had the fix performed in December 2019 (PA). Well, it didn’t work. Gas is still accumulating in my oil. I only used the car for two drives to work per week from Jan 2017 to Jun 2018. All other drives were mostly 80 mile drives to the Jersey shore. To add insult to injury, the tiny original battery that comes with the car died in my garage on Jan 23, 2019, a week before I began shopping for a new vehicle. Battery life of 2 years. In January 2019, I received appraisals ranging from $24,500 to $27,500 for my CR-V. I carefully reviewed information and test drove multiple SUV Crossovers. In February 2019 and after 30 years of only owning Hondas (1989-2019), we traded in a great SUV with a lemon engine and purchased a 2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring in SOUL RED Crystal Metallic and have now put the nightmare engine to sleep. I would recommend doing the same as soon as possible if it’s feasible. As you can see “#HONDA”, you have lost a huge customer and advocate of your vehicles because you won’t stand behind YOUR mistakes. This engine will cost you in the long run as people will flock AWAY from Honda products.

Don’t Purchase! Gasoline in Engine Crankcase
I started smelling fuel in the interior and exterior of the vehicle after 6 mos of ownership. My CRV has been to the dealer 4 times without resolution. Gas is getting into the oil pan (oil dilution). This is a very common failure on these vehicles. I strongly recommend that you review 2017-2018 CRV Facebook page.

Great interior, looks, and tech - a few minor issu
We have owned three Honda vehicles, including a Honda Pilot, before we switched to Ford for the last two cars that we owned. After reading reviews of the CRV and drooling over pics, we purchased a 2017 CRV Touring AWD three days ago. I wanted something very practical (so I can sit in traffic in comfort) with good fuel economy and the CRV really delivers. Among the positives - the interior is well appointed and sized really well (it feels just a bit smaller than our old Pilot, but not cramped in any way). The tech on the vehicle is excellent including the Apple CarPlay and the adaptive cruise control. I also really like the styling on the vehicle. I always thought the previous generation CRVs looked a little uhhh...frumpy. They have done a great job in moving to more of a true SUV look with the vehicle and I really like it. Handling is excellent and body roll is minimal. On the negatives power is a little wimpy (I'm coming from a 280 HP sedan), but adequate and I'm fine with it considering the fuel economy. One thing that bugs me a little is that the fan on the heat/air conditioning is pretty loud, especially when the car is first started and is coming to temperature. It is loud enough that people on the phone have trouble hearing me. I just turn down the fan while I'm on the phone. I also had one instance where the nav system did not boot fully. It came up to the blue Honda background, but no icons appeared, not even the home icon...nothing. I therefore had no way to tune the radio or use the climate controls. At the next stop light, I shut the car down and started again. Still no icons on the screen. At the next light, I shut down again and waited for the H on the driver's screen to completely disappear. I restarted and this time the nav system fully booted and I was able to use normal functions. This has happened one time out of the three days that I have owned the car. I alerted the dealer to this issue and will continue to track it. Even with this minor issue, I can say that over the three days that I have owned the CRV, my opinion of this vehicle has increased. It is a total package combining a great interior, exterior, technology and fuel efficiency into a very practical vehicle. Would buy again without hesitation. Update: After a week of ownership, I have had no further issues with the Nav system. Also, with more moderate outdoor temperatures later in the week, the climate control system has not had to work as hard and therefore fan noise inside the CRV has been much lower.

All Good Until I checked my Oil
Like I said all was good until I checked my oil for the first time. I found the reading to be an inch above the fill dot on the stick, I called the dealer and they had me come in. They were fair about an acknowledged that Honda was having problems with gas getting into the oil on 1.5 Turbos. They esitmated I had 33 % of my oil was gas. I was informed that Honda has no fix and to watch my oil level. So my review is be careful about the new CRV's 1.5 T....and check your oil. I'm assuming this is a big problem from futher investigation on the internet. ( follow up) they did the fix but I still smell gas....I will be selling the CRV

Honda cost of ownership higher than toyota
2023 update. As time goes by, I am less satisfied with the CRV, especially compared to the Toyota RAV4 we also own. Higher per maintenance cost and random failures of the adaptive cruise control system make me wish I bought a different brand. Also the local dealer (Walser Honda) is not as good as the local Toyota dealer. 2022 update. Have owned my CRV for over 5 years. Overall it’s a nice vehicle, but I am disappointed in the cost of ownership. We also own a 2016 Toyota RAV4. The regular maintenance cost of the CRV is significantly higher than the RAV4. From cheap oem tires to frequent fluid changes, it will cost you several hundred dollars a year more to own a CRV. Also disappointed in the local dealership that tries to upsell services every time I take it in for an oil change. While I like the CRV, this will be my last Honda. After some initial problems with the active safety electronics, the car has been great. The original tires needed replacement before 30k miles, which was disappointing. I also own a Toyota RAV4, and the maintenance cost of the CRV is significantly higher. Overall I am pleased with the CRV, and will consider getting another when I am ready to buy again.

Our First Honda
My wife decided to sell her 2009 Toyota Avalon and wanted to purchase a new car. We both really liked and enjoyed the Avalon but wanted a car that would sit up higher. My car is a 2014 Toyota Prius, which is our car used mostly around town. So, since we were loyal Toyota owners, we went to the local Toyota dealership and test drove the 2017 Limited RAV4 hybrid. We had assumed that it would be an easy choice to get another Toyota with that being the RAV4. However, we found the RAV2 was a little cramped inside, not particularly comfortable and felt like the cabin was not finished well. For example, it had softex covering the seats instead of leather. There was nothing about this car that wowed us. So, we then decided to test drive a 2017 Honda CRV mainly because of the insistence of our daughter, who has owned several Hondas. Well to make a long story short, we found the Honda CRV to be the perfect car since it was very comfortable with leather seats and roomy. We also like the layout of the dash. After contacting a number of Honda dealerships, we chose Hendrick Honda in Charleston, SC. Our salesman, Sam Latto not only gave us a great deal, but was never pushy and only offered us exactly what we wanted which was a blue 2017 Honda CRV EX-L. Everyone at Hendrick Honda was very courteous and helpful. This car is the best car that we have ever owned. It is a real pleasure to drive this car, particularly on the highway. Since I am a Prius owner, I know how to drive the Honda CRV in order to get good mileage. After just 3 fill-us, we are averaging around 28 MPG in town and around 39 MPG on the highway. The technology upgrade is fantastic and we both love the safety features. The Apple CarPlay is very handy and makes driving even more pleasurable. We highly recommend this vehicle and Hendrick Honda for your next car. To update our review, we have now had our CR-V for just over 19 months now and are just as pleased with this purchase. It continues to get excellent gas mileage and is very comfortable to drive.

Traded It In... 6 months in.
We purchased a 2017 CRV Touring AWD in October 2017 after our 2016 Prius was stolen and totaled. We bought the CRV as we live in Chicago and thought we would enjoy the AWD features and the historical reliability of Honda. However, a few months in... in the dead of winter... we started having significant heating problems and fuel smell in the cabin. We did not think much of it until we realized the the turbo engine has a problem with oil dilution which can cause a myriad of other problems. In total, in the few months we had the CRV, we had problems with heating, sluggish acceleration, fuel smells in the cabin, needing (full synthetic) oil changes every approx 2,500 miles, and shaking at high speeds, and all our of safety features disengaging during the worst of weather without reason. Despite requesting support from Honda, Honda is not recognizing any of our issues as valid despite repeated requests, case numbers, and more. With that said, we said -- enough is enough -- and in May 2018, we will have officially traded our CRV for something much more reliable. Don't let the Honda name fool you, this vehicle is one heck off of a headache. We are currently getting approx 22pmg. This car costs way too much money for these kind of troubles.

Owner for two months
Overall the car is pretty nice, but here are a few downsides: 1) Stereo is pretty bad and our Touring model supposedly has the upgraded sound system; 2) Safety tech is okay but overrated, radar based cruise control is what I find most useful but it has its quirks; 3) Road noise could be better, I will probably add some additional sound deadening to the doors and floor once the warranty expires.

Great ride and value
Honda has stepped up the crv with its styling, features and safety. One test drive and the explanation of all the standard features and we were sold. The EX with the turbo is all you need unless you really need leather seats, navigation or roof racks.Your phones navigation can be connected and it works great. The adaptive cruise control and lane centering features make driving relaxing(it practically drives itself). Drove from Ct to Florida and back with a loaded vehicle at 70-75mph and averaged about 37mpg. Touch screen is easy to see and use. Traded in a 2014 Toyota Camry se and my auto insurance actually dropped in price. Only negative Honda had no incentives or financing specials, but it is still a great value. No other SUV in this price range or higher can compete with this crv, I checked them all out.
