2nd update- things take a turn for the worse

2024 Honda Civic Touring 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)

This was a decision I agonized over. I am a city dweller who had been for several years without a car. I realized the days of the $399 a month lease deal on a BMW are over and made the decision that for the first time in my life I would buy a car outright, with cash. My list included the Civic, Accord, Jetta, Mazda3, Acura Integra, Audi A3, and BMW 3 series, and Tesla Model 3. Range anxiety and not having the luxury of my own garage to charge at home discouraged me from the Tesla. Ultimately it came down to getting a basic luxury sedan like the A3 or 3 series or something more pedestrian and saving like 10 grand. The Civic Touring just seemed to have the most of everything for the advertised price: a generally good reputation for reliability, good resale value, a good sound system (12 speaker Bose), and a very reasonable amount of tech for the money. The dealer sold me the car at MSRP. I've owned it a month now and so far I love it. The black exterior is a surprisingly rich-looking and impressive black. It's metallic but almost looks like jet black. Most metallic blacks seem more like graphite to me so I am really very happy about this. The rims that come with the touring model are also very classy and have already received compliments. Despite the lack of lumbar support, I find the seats comfortable. Visibility in all directions is solid. That may not be the case with the hatchback. I believe the car is advertised to get around 33 mpg but so far my average is 29.5 mpg with (mostly) highway driving. I understand the car needs to be driven a bit more to hit the advertised mileage so I will monitor it to see if it improves with the blessing of time. I think the sedan looks better than the hatchback, but that of course is subjective. If you are stuck between say the EX trim and the Touring trim, I say the sound system alone makes the Touring worth it. And the rims just make the car look more expensive as well. To be honest while I looked at the Integra myself, I really do not know why anyone would consider it over the Civic Touring unless they really want a manual transmission or something. The base Integra just seems like a lame duck with a worse sound system than my Civic and only 20 more horsepower, and to pay like 6 grand more for the A-spec with the tech package seems even crazier. But to each his own! Now for some nuances: I haven't figured out how to get turn by turn navigation to display above me on the steering wheel. It seemed to do it once randomly but not anymore. It's probably some setting I have to activate or button to push. Also, I've noticed the high beams will sometimes come on seemingly randomly when I'm driving at night. I would prefer if they didn't do this. Again, probably a setting that has to be turned off. Finally with regard to the engine and transmission, I certainly find the 1.5t adequate with even power to spare. Obviously it won't give you the same thrill as a BMW 330i but nobody should have that expectation. I find the CVT unobtrusive. Overall, I hope I continue to be satisfied with the 2024 Civic Touring. I will update this review in a yr or so! 6-7-2024: Seems like a good time to post some updates. I've driven around 3,500 miles now, which is a bit less than I hoped. Somewhat concerningly, my avg MPG is 29.9...this is less than the minimum I should be getting in the city (31 mpg) and I am a conservative driver. If I don't see improvement by say 5K I may start to wonder. Every MPG counts, and many previous cars I have driven met or even exceeded their published MPG. On the positive front, everything I previously mentioned I enjoyed about the car I continue to enjoy. The 1.5t and CVT work incredibly well together-CVT's truly have come a long way. The power delivery is excellent. There has been some criticism of the upper trims. I do not agree that they feel cheap or at least have seen no evidence of it. Having prior experience with German cars I'm amazed at how refined this vehicle feels. The ride can be bumpier than say a BMW or Lexus over choppy roads, and there is a bit more road noise at highway speeds but it's like comparing a B+ student to a perfect A student. It doesn't bother me much and I doubt it will bother most people. Other things...the auto high beam feature can indeed be disabled. It would be nice if the car had seat memory, and rear ac vents wouldn't hurt either (for what it's worth, the Integra doesn't have rear vents either which makes that vehicle even more of a waste!). If you're still reading, some other great aspects of the Civic are the simplicity of the controls. Everything is logically laid out and exactly where it should be. You still have physical climate controls (many Volkswagens, BMWs have removed these- I just think of a situation where I'm merging onto a highway, my window is fogging up, and I'm fumbling through a menu on a screen trying to turn on the defroster). Oh and you still have a traditional gear shifter- no silly button shifter, column shifter or anything that would make you wonder what on Earth were they thinking?? Well, I think I have covered everything! I continue to believe the Honda Civic Touring is a great car that provides excellent overall value. But MPG is something I will have to watch closely!! 3.2.25- I now have roughly 6,000 miles on the vehicle. Unfortunately, a couple of surprising things have occurred that have compelled me to post a second update, and also reduce my star rating from 5 to 3 stars. I was debating whether this might be too harsh-I suppose if 3.5 stars were possible, that's where I'd be. But I'm honestly fine with the two star reduction. First, MPG: I've seen no improvement. In fact my average has gone down from around 29.5 to 27.5 mpg. That is just not good enough and again, is far below what Honda claims the car is capable of. EVERY other car I have had, without fail, has met or exceeded its range. Why should this Honda be the exception? Another point I think is relevant here is I've come to find out that the Civic has a 12.4 gallon fuel tank capacity. That is small relative to most vehicles on the market. Bottom line: for a car for which fuel efficiency is a selling point, I'm thinking about fuel too often! The next issue I had was honestly kind of odd. I was on a three hour trip and stopped to have lunch. To my surprise, when I opened my driver side door I noticed that this piece of molding or weather stripping right at the very top of the door above the window had come loose and was kind of sticking out awkwardly! I have NEVER experienced something like that in any car, let alone a new car. I immediately drove to the nearest Honda dealer I could locate. They apologetic but admitted that they had seen this many times, and basically just used their hands to put it back in place. It hasn't come apart again since then and I certainly hope it doesn't. Another complaint is with the wireless phone charger. The few times I attempted to use it, it was basically worthless. The phone has to be in a very specific position for it to do anything. I rented a Cadillac CT5 not long ago that honestly felt as luxurious as my Honda but let me tell you, the wireless charger worked like a charm. No issues whatsoever! Next, the sensors. They are too sensitive, particularly the forward collision warnings. More than once the car has beeped and the "brake immediately" alert appeared when there was no perceptible obstacle or danger. Would say more if not for limit!

Pretty good

2024 civic sedan. Nice looks, good gas mileage 34-35 around town. Wider tires hug the road. Stereo system is ok, android auto works as it should. Seats are AWFUL. Not enough padding. No matter what I can't get comfortable. Had to buy a wheelchair cushion to get some comfort. Visibility is good, but rear window is pretty shallow. Rear view mirror too small. Bought aftermarket attachment to give a wider view out the rear & sides. Controls are pretty good. Heat & A/C are fine. Sits low so sometimes hard to get in & out. All these negatives are only really noticeable AFTER you drive it a while. Test drive, you don't notice as much. It does have sharp/ crisp handling. Pretty quite & road & wind noise not too bad. But I drive on good paved roads. No power driver seats, would have been nice to have. Passengers seat only has adjustable back, forward & back. No up or down like drivers seat. Rear seat ok, but not for long road trips. For the money, it still reliable & dependable car. Was better materials inside than the Toyota corolla. Not too crazy about the CVT. But most cars today has that, so not a lot of choice in this segment. HATE the start/stop feature. Have to turn it off EVERY time you start the car . There should be a PERMANENT way to turn this OFF !! Plenty of room inside though. As I get more used to it , I might like better or just get used to it If I could change just 1 thing it would be a more comfortable seat !! Good thing I don't travel much & just use around town, or I would definitely be considering trading in faster than I have in the past. Guess they really " don't make them like they used to " Sadly.

For the cost, this is a good A to B commute. Stylish, plenty of interior room, good visibility ( rear window a bit narrow) trunk space adequate for its class. Handles very good. Good room on back seats but no extras there. ( Sport trim) pretty good excelleration, & brakes nicely. Stereo system is adequate. BUT, I hate that stop/start feature. Should be a way to turn off permanently. Also, the front seats are not very comfortable. No power seats except for the top of the line model. No lumbar, but seats are padded enough so that's not really an issue for me. Gas mileage is very good, & ride is pretty smooth and comfy. Takes harsh bumps in the road very well. Trunk space adequate. Fit & finish seems good. Of I could change anything it would be more comfortable seats & get rid of that STOP/START feature, or be able to permanently turn it off. Price was good in my area, with no up charge by my dealer. Even got $1 000 off MSRP. So pretty good deal. This car serves as my only vehicle & gets the job done without many bells and whistles that I don't need, use, or want to pay extra for.

Perfect for a daily driver

Everything’s great on this thing. Would like to have had some more creature comforts in the car but comparing other vehicle prices, you can’t beat it in our current economy. Don’t buy a used car the same price as a new car, especially if you’re gunna load it up with so many miles. I got the silver color, not sure what the correct name of the color is, with black, sporty 18” wheels makes it look sweeeeet. Just need to invest in tinting windows. It’s spacious interior is great for a small family but for road trips, I’d rather use a bigger car, not this one. You won’t regret this purchase for a daily driver.

After owning 4 Toyota's. I traded in my 2023 Toyota Corolla SE (6 months) because of defects and constant repairs that led to lower back pain. I wish I had purchase the Honda Civic Sport to begin with. The overall feeling of the car is better. The brakes, steering, roominess, interior design. From the very beginning the car felt like it supposed to feel; brand new. I did not feel that way in the Toyota and it was my very first new car (7 miles) I had 5 people that told me to get a Honda and they were right. As far as the mount issues I had with my new Toyota Corolla. No company want their products to be bad, but the treatment of said company make a difference to their customer of over 20 yrs. Never again!!!!!!!!

Inside, the comfort is top-notch, with plush seating and a well-designed cabin. >Driving the Civic Touring is a pleasure. The engine delivers smooth acceleration, and the handling is responsive, making city driving a breeze. Fuel efficiency has been excellent, living up to Honda's reputation. >The technology and safety features are impressive. The infotainment system is intuitive, and the advanced driver-assistance features provide peace of mind on the road. >While it's too early to judge long-term reliability, the Civic Touring has been trouble-free so far. Pros: Sleek exterior design Comfortable interior Smooth driving experience Excellent fuel efficiency Impressive technology and safety features Cons: Little bit cabin noise on Highway Overall, I highly recommend the 2024 Honda Civic Touring to anyone in the market for a reliable and stylish sedan.

I leased my civic last week (trim EX) and it exceeds my expectations. The ride is so smooth and I’m looking forward to winter when I can use the seat warmer. Auto start comes with the vehicle in two years of standard maintenance at no extra charge. The 2024 is about $500 more than the 2023, but well worth it..

I've owned many new vehicles in the past including cars, suv's and trucks but this Honda Civic is one of the best I've owned so far. I like the sporty handling and smooth ride is nice. The interior is upscale looking and I think the seats are comfortable but I haven't been on day long drives either. This Honda has a lot more power than you would think, it will get up and go and what amazes me is I've driven it 1500 miles so far and I am averaging 45.2 miles per gallon. At $28500 with the Pearl White paint option I think this car is a very good buy and I would definatly buy again.

I leased my 2024 Honda Civic hatchback a few months ago and I’d like to share my opinion. This car is fuel efficient, safe, reliable, and affordable yet it looks great. I have the Boost Blue color which is one of the less common colors of the civic and people point and turn heads. The interior is good but my main gripe is the sound system is underwhelming considering the sport model has the mid level system. The HR-V sport is the same price but gives you heated seats, BSM, and USB-C which seems “unfair” but I chose the civic because I’m not a crossover fan. The headroom is fantastic but the seat back can be uncomfortable at times with no adjustment for lumbar. One of my favorite features is the auto high beams which work great. Materials are decent but last generation civic has soft touch upper door panels on every trim where this one has that reserved for top trims (new generation is more expensive too). The car rides good for how large the rims are. Road noise is loud on old rough roads but bearable. This car is all around a good car that looks great and won’t break the bank. Other competition offers more for the money but civic has the best refinement in class.

Love what they've done with the trim and overall look in the 2024 Civic Sport. The Sonic Gray Pearl is a really awesome and well done color as well. A nice neutral that still stands out and contributed to the sporty look the newer Civics have. I traded in a 2019 Civic for this one and what I notice right off the bat is how smooth of a drive the 2024 has. Turns feel really nice, handles bumps smoothly, and just feels good to drive overall. Has all the features that you want without going too over the top. Interior feels comfortable to me and looks solid. Excited to spend some more time out on the road with it.

The 2024 Civic Touring is amazing. Traded in 2018 Honda Accord EX which I felt had too much play in the steering. The 2024 Civic Touring has no play in the steering wheel. Handles beautifully. I love this car. Has all the perks that I want, including Sirius radio!!!!

Steering wheel clunks and other annoying problems

Ahmed, 09/30/2024
2024 Honda Civic Touring 4dr Sedan (1.5L 4cyl Turbo CVT)

I bought this car on October 14 2023 Brand new Touring Model From day one it has a very annoying blower motor noise that is so annoying it will make you grind your teeth. At roughly 30,000 miles the steering wheel makes very bad clunking and rattling noises. The weird thing is that it happens a few days then disappears then starts to happen again. It makes me feel like the steering wheel is about to break. It's not only noisy, I can feel it in my hands when it's clunking while turning it. It makes this clunk even when stationary. Took it to the Honda Stealership and I even have a video and the service reps saw it and acknowledged there's a noise but told me if they can't find anything they will charge me a diagnostic fee while it's under warranty. If you they fail to find anything wrong or can't replicate the issue that's not an excuse because the noise is still there. I told them I don't want to take the risk and risk paying theives. Also because it's a touring, there's a brake system for parking lots called low speed braking control. Apparently if it detects obstacles at slow speed it will apply the brakes. We'll its dangerous lots of false alarms with it. I was exiting a parking lot onto a main road and all of a sudden right before turning on the roadway, it braked for no reason. There was nobody it was all empty. Now I can turn this feature off but every time I turn off the engine and restart the car it comes back on. This is very inconvenient because I shouldn't have to worry about turning it off every time I restart the car. I mean don't get me wrong this car drives amazing it's very smooth but it's gone to the point where it's so annoying to deal with these things that I have to give it one star.

It's a car

For the money there are MUCH better hatchback cars. Where to begin.... I should have done much more research on this car. The trunk has to be opened from the outside, there is no lever inside the car to open the trunk or the gas lid. The gas lid is a push to open. If it gets stuck there is a cord to pull INSIDE of the trunk. The back seat has no pull down middle armrest, no armrest at all, no cup holders, no pockets on the backseat. The tire pressure monitor system is so basic that it does not even display the tire pressure for each tire. The Bluetooth phone system is trash. No one can ever hear or understand me on calls, so I inevitably have to disconnect and hold the phone with my hand to talk. This defeats the convenience of hands free phone. Honda has asked that I drop the car off for a few days to check on it. Unfortunately, I can't be without my newly purchased car for a few days because I NEED a car, that's why I bought one. I didn't realize how low to the ground the car is, but that's actually minor. The road noise is very bad. Passengers in the back seat cannot hear each other speak if you are going over 40 mph. There is only ONE speed for the intermittent wipers. I had all of these features and more in my 2013, that's right, 2013! Nissan Altima and none of them are included in the 2024 Civic. I did not have the Bluetooth or road noise issue in my old car. I got an overprice basic car. The only good thing is that it is a Honda and dependable. I could have spent less on a basic Sedan.

Last NA Manual Honda

grafyte, 08/09/2024
2024 Honda Civic Sport 4dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl 6M)
7 of 8 people found this review helpful

I bought this car because it's a naturally aspirated, manual transmission Honda. I really like the engine and transmission in this car and it's very enjoyable to drive overall, but the peace of mind knowing it's a proven powertrain that will last a long time with few headaches is the icing on the cake. Boost blue is also a stunning color. After crossing the 3000 mile mark, I have just a few complaints. This car's appearance is utterly ridiculous and needlessly boy-racer. I almost didn't buy the car because Honda locks you into the Sport trim to get the 6 speed transmission, ugh. The 18 inch wheels are completely uncalled for. The tires are insanely loud and this is my primary complaint with the vehicle. This car is louder on the interior than a 3rd gen Honda Fit. This is the loudest car I've ever been in, and it's not much quieter than the tractor trailer I drove. I will be switching to 15 inch HCH wheels and 205/65/R16 rubber soon and hopefully that alleviates the noise. The steering wheel feels nice at first, but on a long road trip, the 8 and 4 hand position on the wheel will absolutely wreck my right thumb. The cross section of the steering wheel is not circular, it's oval, and wider than it is tall. This results in extreme difficulty holding the wheel comfortably at 8 and 4, and since it's a 3 spoke (under very close inspection, the bottom spoke is split, but it's functionally still a 3 spoke), 6 is off the table. The 9 & 3 and 10 & 2 positions are good though. My 1994 Honda Accord steering wheel felt just as nice, but was way, way more comfortable on long road trips. Really wish that car didn't rust out. The steering ratio is also absurdly quick. There is no reason for the wheel to be this quick. Only 2 turns lock-to-lock is truly excessive. I was told this was for evasive maneuvers, but I drove a tractor trailer for 5 years that probably had twice the steering ratio and over 4 turns lock-to-lock and I never had an issue making evasive maneuvers in that. None of this speaks of the turning radius, which is wider than the 3rd gen Honda Odyssey. I don't know if that praises the Odyssey, or insults this car, but I will let you dwell on that. It's usable, but could be better. LX and EX models are much more in line with expectations. One of my favorite features of the car is the 6 speed transmission, and I like almost everything about it, but if I could change the gear ratios, I would. I will start by saying 1st, 4th, and 5th are perfect. 2nd and 3rd are way too tall though. I would prefer to keep 2nd and 3rd shorter to stay in the power band longer and would help with making smoother and quicker shifts too. 6th is too short and barely any different than 5th, just a few hundred rpm. 6th puts you at 2300 rpm at 60mph, and 2700@70. (which is exactly where my 1994 Honda Accord was) Would prefer to be at 2000@60 and 2300@70. for reference, 5th is 2700@60 and 3200@70. That was thing I really liked about my 1994 Accord, was the last 2 gears were well differentiated. I end up skipping 4th and going straight to 6th a lot of the time and doing that pretty much makes the car drive exactly like the 30 year old Accord I replaced. I'm getting 40-43 mpg on the Highway depending on speed (65-75 mph). I live at high altitude so the air is thinner. I'm expecting it to drop to low 30s at sea level under same conditions. Some other complaints are, uh, unavoidable due to safety and emissions regulations. The auto stop-start is very annoying. One time thus far, I parked the car, the stop start kicked in, killing the engine, then I clutch in, shifted to reverse, clutch out in quick succession like I always did in my 1994 Accord, except clutching in causes the engine to start, so I abruptly stalled the car and jolted backwards almost a foot. After that, I am now in the habit of turning it off immediately after starting the car, and TBH I have some PTSD symptoms now every time I park the car. On a similar vein, I really dislike that the lane departure warning cannot be turned off completely. I have the noise turned off, but the wheel still vibrates like mad anytime you dodge a pothole, or roadkill, or need to ride the line to give space to emergency vehicles. The radar cruise is also not my favorite. I feel like it uses the brakes too liberally and wish it had the ability to plan ahead and rely more on pure engine braking like I can. You can switch to traditional cruise control though by holding the distance button though. The nannies and such just make this car way more expensive than it really needs to be, but that's just not really avoidable. I have had some issues with water leaking into the back via the hatch. I believe one or possibly 2 of the seals are not doing their job and allowing rain water to leak into the cargo area. I park the car in a garage, but after driving through a torrential thunderstorm, there is always wetness back there. So in review, I mostly like the car, but as with all vehicles there are compromises to be made, and I do believe this car does more right than wrong. As long as I can get some quieter tires on there, I believe I will be keeping this car 30 years like the Accord I replaced (disclaimer: I was not the original owner of the car, and it was from Virginia. I had the Accord for just 3 years). Or maybe longer! So far, if I could do this again, I think I might have forgone the 6 speed in favor of the LX trim (aegan blue looks good too), but I think what I actually wanted was a 1st gen Acura ILX. I'm just happy I got the last of the NA manual Hondas!

So let’s get down to the brass tax on this. The car looks great drives really smooth and has plenty of power. We already knew that though. What you might not know, is this thing is loaded with all kinds of driving features that assume you have no idea how to drive. So if you find yourself ever on a highway a main road, or a side road expect crazy things to happen while you drive. The adaptive cruise control will slam on the brakes out of nowhere regardless if there are cars around or not. I think it’s just scared of it shadow. The lane assist shuts off after 15 seconds of no engagement if you’re going over 50 miles an hour or playing songs with volume higher than level six, you will not hear the alarm go off and it will give you no visual warnings that it’s disengaged. I’ve almost gotten an accident three times due to this. The traffic collision system will really make your heart race! Assuming you’re on a highway and someone is trying to pass you and comes really close to your vehicle while doing so, it might just slam on the brakes regardless of how close the guy is behind you, what a treat! Good news is, you can turn most of this off within the internal menu, which can only be accessed with the car turned off in accessory mode. The traffic collision avoidance system, which will try and crash you several times a month can only be turned off in this accessory mode and it has to be done every single time you start the car. Assuming you wanna have warranty oil changes, you must wait until the maintenance minder let you know that a minimum of 7500 miles to 10,000 miles in order to get that covered by your warranty. If you’re smart like me, and change your oil sooner than that, look forward to paying it out-of-pocket In summary: if you’re into having a car that likes to surprise you with its awesome unrefined features, this is definitely the car for you. If you’re looking for an stress-free ride without having to worry about your car, trying to kill you, I would highly highly highly recommend something different. I’ll go back to pre 2017 cars after I sell this.

2024 Honda Civic Touring, the most tech smart, yet

In my adult life, I have owned two other new Honda Civics. I drove the first (1988) for 18 years and 220k miles; the second a 2007, I drove 17 years and 152k miles before it was sadly totaled in my work place parking lot. Since she had been meticulously maintained at the selling Honda dealer, I confidently believe she would have likely driven another 100k miles. I am confident this 2024 Civic Touring will meet my expectations and more.

I have a brand new 2024 Honda civic car. I got all-seasons tires along with the car, I also bought a winter tires to use them during winter and to use the all seasons tires during the rest of the year. I face a horrible problem whenever I use the all seasons tires. They also make a very loud sound that makes me and anyone in the car feels uncomfortable and very nervous! I took the car to the dealer and he refused to re-fund or to replace them with another tires. I feel so bad that I bought a brand new car and I was asked to pay for a problem is not caused by me! Is that how the warranty works?

While the 2024 Civic I test drove had plenty of tech it did not have the performance of my 2017. It was CONSIDERABLY slower despite having the same drive train (1.5 L turbo/CVT). I drove the EX trim specifically to get the 1.5, which I’ve been driving since November 2016 in my 2017 hatchback sport. The 2024 felt very de-tuned—possibly to force people to the highest trim level (which is still slower than the 2017). We have been a Honda family for decades, so I hope this is a one off business decision. My 17 year old is now the proud owner of my 2017 Civic. I was looking to repeat the process and buy a 2024 Civic for my now 13 year old to take over in a few years. Instead, I bought a top trim level Kia Forte for far less than the Civic EX. I love the car at the 400 mile mark, but the real feedback won’t be available until it provides years of reliable service like my Hondas have. I will say that so far it is seems to be a tremendous value, though the gas mileage is less than that of my Civic. I will also say the negative feedback I saw regarding the car is not anything I’ve experienced. It drives great—very quick, very comfortable and a ridiculous amount of tech for the price point.

What can I tell you, it's a Honda. Love everything about it...even the power us more than adequate with the normally aspirated 2.0L. Beautiful car that handles and rides like a charm. The interior design is beautiful and layout is perfect. Exterior looks like a $50k car... The only negative I would say, is that Honda could have invested more in road noise insulation... Besides that, it is the perfect fun and fuel efficient car that has outstanding reliability.

6 speed manual runs great, 2024 hatch w/ Sport Tour package has abundant safety features, nice selection of options and spacious driver/passenger cockpit layout. Only change would be to add AWD, but conceded that for everything else. Very spacious hatch. Comparable manual transmission from other brands were more cost, so pleased with overall value...plus, its a Honda.

I bought a 2016 Civic EX and absolutely loved everything about it! The 1.5 Turbo engine was peppy and reliable. The ride was smooth and quiet. Gas mileage was incredible 32 city 42 highway. And I should have kept it. Got a brand new 2024 Civic Sport, and while it looks nice, that’s about it. Engine is sluggish, gas mileage dropped 4-10 miles per gallon and it’s INCREDIBLY loud and a rough ride. You feel every bump and dip in the road. Road noise is so loud you can barely hear the radio. Regrets for sure. You’d think things would have improved instead of going backwards.
