Superb All-Rounder
I am a middle-aged gearhead w/ long commute, looking for an economy car that can perform family duties in a pinch. I considered various options incl. hybrids, but was drawn to the Civic’s sharp looks & highway MPG, and bought the Si. I was instantly hooked by the deep bucket seats & short-throw shifter, where my backside says “AHHH…. YESSS!!” every time I enter the car. Spoiled by automatics for 20 yrs, I was initially reluctant to daily this, and it is a bit clumsy at low speeds. But the shifter & clutch are very light & precise, and this car becomes alive at higher speeds. I love the wide foot-well w/ perfectly placed footrest, and dashboard looks as clean & modern as the exterior. My only gripe is that the tach needle is too thin, causing the screaming engine to hit the rev limiter before I can catch it. Engine is a gem, being punchy w/ no perceptible turbo lag. The firmly weighted steering w/ lots of feedback is another highlight, which I find easier to drive than cars w/ super light steering, or artificially heavy ones. On the practical side, even though premium gas is recommended, it runs well on regular unleaded, where I would not have bought it otherwise. I mostly drive on the freeway at moderate speeds and average 43 MPG, which ticks my first box. It has sufficient room for my family of 5, where even the middle seat is soft & comfy. The Si costs more than LX or EX, but saves me money because the family often rides this on weekends as opposed to our SUV. What this car lacks in space, it more than compensates w/ the WOW factor. The ride is firm but smooth, and the way it corners so flat is comforting. Just watch out for potholes which produce a loud BANG, and Sport mode which amplifies road ripples at high speed. I have owned & driven luxury cars costing several times more, and they are certainly nice (esp. interior quality), but the Civic Si’s virtues are equally superb, and I am as happy as I have ever been!! Nov. 2018: After a bit more driving, the manual has become second nature, where I often drive on city streets rather than freeway to savor it. Brakes are firm and reassuring with ZERO nose dive. Tires have strong grip yet minimal road noise. Fuel-sipping engine pins you back to the seat the moment you stab the gas. Rear seat has more than enough room, trunk swallows 3 golf bags, takes an external bike rack that carries 3 bikes (& 1 more inside the trunk). There is hardly a family task that the Si cannot accomplish. Nothing is ever perfect, and you can nit-pick this car all day long if you want, but you are missing the big picture. After 10k miles, I can only say “This is too good to be true.” Nov. 2019: Still loving it w/ 74k miles. The AWESOME seats & handling never get old, makes you unable to drive any other car – in fact when I recently drove a sporty European sedan that is getting rave reviews, it felt utterly horrible. The Si is twice the car at half the price IMHO. Dec. 2020: This is actually a 2017 CPO that had 14k miles, I drove 86k, total 100k. No major issues, just normal wear & tear e.g. new battery & headlight bulbs. One tire was ruined by a pothole but other 3 have not worn out yet. Make sure the sidewall height exactly matches between right & left tires, since any deviation results in TPMS fault & eventually torque steer. Android Auto needs good USB cable & occasional system reboot. Dashboard developed a buzz coming from A-pillar, easy fix w/ stick-on foam. Front brake pads have a slight rattle due to wear, paint chips easily. Otherwise good, it has excelled on everything from soccer dad duties at 25 MPH to cross-country runs at 80 MPH. NORMAL mode is perfect for daily use, being smooth and tame, almost too easy to drive. Thankfully SPORT mode firms up the ride & steering, but clutch & shifter need more spice. Exterior can borrow some bits from Type R. Minor gripes aside, this is clearly a stand-out in a world full of anonymous A to B appliances. Trade-in value is insanely high, but mine is not going anywhere!! Jun. 2021: Working from home, I now have a typical mixed driving style & still get 40 MPG. Nothing against CVT or hybrid, but manual should be just as economical in the long run. Clutch & shifter are so light that you almost shift w/ telepathy. Heavy traffic is no problem, where working this clutch is as easy as working the brakes on CVT. It deters thieves (happened to me 30 yrs ago where the guy yelled “SH**, it’s a stick!!”). In college, fewer buddies will borrow your car. The only time I wished for CVT was on the hilly roads near SF. Looks large & substantial even in a sea of SUV’s, you can carry 10’ lumbar. Digital speedo is clear & visible even w/ steering wheel turned. Rear bumper has large flat area in middle (saved me 3 times). This is a hidden gem that continues to leapfrog my wildest expectations. As the world grapples w/ inflation, I am laughing all the way to the bank!! Dec. 2021: Runs like new with 125k miles, love the spherical shifter knob that audibly clicks into gear. Steering almost feels unassisted, where the inherent stability makes it track the road like a laser-guided missile, and the car straightens itself as you loosen the wheel after a turn. Firm ride is magically smooth over bumps, although it does get jittery on the worst roads. Overall an incredible experience that runs circles around more famous brands. Today, most cars feel “floaty” like a boat, blobbing around the waves with a powertrain that has a mind of its own. However, Civic Si is a direct extension of yourself that is glued to the road, as if you are walking on your own legs. As a bonus, total cost of ownership is about as low as it gets, which proves that you can indeed get something for nothing. Jul. 2022: At 140k miles, the only sign of wear is brake rotors getting wavy. Punchy engine is a fuel miser at low RPM, with a lifetime average of 42.8 MPG (this is the true value since onboard computer is not very accurate). Chassis is sharp and direct even when hypermiling, and my teenage kid is asking why other cars feel so numb - maybe their test drivers had been replaced by phone apps. Did great on family trip from Indy to NYC, carrying 4 people in comfort along with their luggage. Being compact and nimble, it zipped around the chaotic streets of Manhattan at a decent 29 MPG. Unlike econocars that look like a used bar of soap, it exudes a rich ambience where, with everyone dressed up, we proudly pulled up to valet parking of exquisite restaurant under the Brooklyn Bridge. As you can see, it combines the essence of all Civic / Accord / Insight / Type R / Integra into a single unbeatable package. Mine has been everywhere from sea to shining sea creating family memories, and it keeps going like a perpetual motion machine. I still cannot believe it is real.

Amazing value, this car is a rocket!
I am a longtime Toyota owner, and recently gave my 2006 Toyota Camry SE V6 (130K) to my daughter, and was in the market for another Camry. I test drove the 2018 Camry SE, and had plans to buy it, but one day on my way to work I saw a Honda Civic Sport, loved the way it looked and started to do some research. That brought me to the Civic Si, and after a test drive, I loved it. It's priced about $2500 less than the Camry SE, gets about the same gas mileage, but has 6 speed manual! After a couple of months of back and forth negotiations, I came out with the Si for $22K. Without getting into to much details...this car is fast. Very fast. And it handles the road like an expensive sports car. It begs you to drive it hard, and it rewards you for it. The only thing I don't like is that people are always coming up on my bumper or to my side wanting to race or see if they can beat me. It is a bit annoying as I am 50 years old and left my adolescence a long, long time ago

The best new fun to drive car easily for under 25k
I've had my new 2018 Civic Si coupe since December 26th 2017 and I got a great year end lease deal. This is an incredibly fun to drive car for the money at $22,000 before tax and the other dealer charges. The press is stupid tough on this car probably because the Type R is so damn good from what I've read no test drives are still allowed. But this car is far cheaper, is a two door coupe, and does not look like it came out of a cereal box! The handling is incredible, engine power is great for a 1.5 liter engine, the controls are perfectly placed and logical, the stereo sounds amazing turned all the way up, the shifter and clutch are Honda perfection, the steering is amazing, the limited slip differential pulls the car out of turns and provides improved traction in inclement weather, the all-season tires offer great grip in all conditions and there is no need to have another set just for winter, the visibility is great especially considering it is a two door, the interior and trunk have tons of room for such a small car, and the gas mileage is great as I have been averaging 32 mpg in seriously frigid New England winter temperatures! My only gripe is that with the dampers in the normal mode the ride is a bit much on bumpy pavement but that is it. And I am surprised of all the attention this car gets on the road. Maybe it is the nice pearl white on my car or the fact that every vehicle on the road has four doors and is some type of stupid cross over / suv I am not sure. I've had many performance cars in the past (vortech supercharged Honda S2000, three Camaros, among some others) as well as other Honda vehicles but I am telling you do not listen to the press reviews on this car except maybe for Car and Driver who has put the Si on their ten best list along with the Sport hatch and Type R. It is well deserved indeed. Check one out for yourself, life is short. You will not be disappointed.

Makes me feel young again!
After driving my 2006 Accord 147,000 miles I decided I needed a new car. The Accord had served me well, and, except for oil, battery and tire changes it had not visited the shop. But I could feel it getting old and knew a major repair was not far off. I wanted a similar car and I liked the 2018 Camry with its new platform. Seemed more powerful and fun than the older one, but body looked a little floppy. Then I saw the 2018 Accord and liked that too. Reviews said it was more refined and more fun than the Camry. But I did not like the way the rear looked. I also wanted a manual shift. About 40 years ago I had learnt to drive stick shift in India and driven stick till 2003, when I came to the US. Then the automatic seduced me with its easy driving and convenience. But my soul missed the sound of a revving engine and the satisfation of the gear clicking into its place. I then looked at the lease deals Honda was offering and saw the Civic Si at only $229/month. All online reviews were glowing. Far more striking was the passion and the number of superlatives the reviewers used compared to reviews of Golf, Focus or Miata. I was middle aged, married with adult children and belonging to the higher middle class. Would it look good if I drove a teenager's car costing $25,000? And it was manual, which was taking a step backwards, while other car manufacturers were threatning to unleash self driving cars. I test drove the Si and the Honda Sport manual. The Sport was a little more docile and a little more me. In the end, I decided not to be me and signed up for a black Si. And after a couple of months now, I am glad I did. My old Accord had decent handling compared to my Enclave and Versa. But the Si was a world apart. I drove down to Big Sur last weekend and even at reckless speeds along Route 1, I never felt the car go out of control in any of the turns. It always seemed eager to head into the next one like a young puppy on leash. On 101, the steering was rock steady and a small press of the accelerator was enough to surge. I had not felt so alive and young for a long time. The car seemed to read my mind and become a part of me. My only fear was that I would be pulled up for speeding. But I do have some small complaints which I hope Honda will fix in future 1. The normal mode is not comfortable enough and the Sport mode is not sporty enough. There should be a greater difference between the two modes. 2. My daily commute along 880 is certainly more fun than in my Accord but the constant stop and go can be a little wearing, especially in the evening when one is tired after a day of work. I wish Honda would change the first two gear shifts to automatic and then go back to manual for the next three. 3. I love the engine noise but the road noise can be a irritating. Ideally, the cabin noise should be near silent in the normal mode and noisy only in the Sport mode. And separate out the road noise from the engine noise using the audio system. I am sure outside noise can be picked up using a microphone and can be filtered and fed into the speakers. I wonder why no car manufacturer has considered this. I love my Civic Si. And did I tell you I get 40 mpg?

Excellent buy!
Excellent buy! Great Performance would be an understatement! Loved my last 5-speed manual civic which is still going passed 176k miles, but couldn't pass up my for sure upgrade to the 6-speed manual CIVIC SI! I love the color which is a very luxurious looking gray which I have already been getting compliments on how beautiful this vehicle is; especially after I purchased was looking mint and brand new fresh out the car wash and cleaned up. Hope I can duplicate that wash myself to keep it looking like new and gorgeous as it was that night. Technology in this is awesome especially the auto unlocking/locking doors feature all with my key fob in my pocket! Has a quick performing pick up with the turbo which I love all for a classy and sporty mixture which i was looking for."Can't go wrong with a honda!"

Honda no more
This car really sucks. Oil dilution problems but Honda denies it. I have a 2018 Si sedan and the driver side seat cloth is already ripping from getting in and out of the vehicle. A/C problems. The radio is junk. The window outside rubber is all cracked. Extreme turbo lag.
One year in - now 3 years
What can I say, I bought this car brand new one year ago and I still get excited when I see it in my driveway. The car is a beast, granted it’s not a type R or some other super high performance car, but it certainly acts like it. Every time I park someone compliments me on the color and style- I went with the lime green. It very comfortably seats 2 and our Pitt. Love the tech and the ease of use. I spent 3 years narrowing down my selection of cars... and I don’t ever regret my decision. *update* after 3 years, I’m still excited every time I remember I’ve got an electrifying green Honda. I’ve only had to change the oil a few times, replaced the battery, used the warranty once last year when my AC stopped working... which I was provided a rental during the repair. I’m still thrilled with my purchase.

Great Economical Sporty Sedan
Owned this car for 2 years and doesn't get old. Love the great mileage I get on the freeway when I commute to work in the mornings. Averaging around 35 on good days. Packs a punch when I need to drop a gear to speed up. Exactly what I was looking for. Easy maintenance and no issues when owning this car so far. You'll hear road noise and the ride isn't all too comfortable but it's what to expect. Great car for a guy like me in his early 20s

An almost perfect car
This car has numerous AC problems.honda has extended the warranty on the AC to 10 years. The fuel pump needs to be replaced, Honda has done this because of a recall. This is because of the compression ration of the engine, it is 16:9:1, which means the car needs premium gas. The onboard computer is supposed to compensate with, “no knock software” I am not convinced a new fuel pump is the solution, so I started putting in premium gas and my car stopped having issues starting and stalling while driving. The car looks good and has enough umph for how much the car costs. But the suspension sucks, it can’t take turns that well, and the ride is really rough (for some). The mpgs are great, I average 35 and drive like a jerk with premium gas. Overall it’s a decent car, but it has an average amount of issues for a car now a days (blame ford and gm for lowering the bar). I would not recommend this car, as it seems this is an “almost great car”

Honda Civic 2018
The whole gas opener it’s horrible every time I put gas the thing gets stuck on the gas tank 🤮poor design
2018 Si
Some of the worst reviews I’ve ever seen with not much brains. Gas opener? Transmission? Really? Zero issues and excellent car. Look how many on the road. Also own a 1999 4Runner 250k miles runs perfect. Making fools of yourselves daily. Why would anyone give a car two stars about a gas opener? (Also zero issues with the gas opener have ever been reported unless one of your 5 kids messed with it). Dumb people. Honda makes great cars as does Toyota. Case closed.

Best bang for the buck!
I can not rave enough about this little gem of a car. All my other vehicles put out more than twice the 205HP this little turbo Si puts out but this is the car my wife and I always want to drive. I put on tires and wheels lighter and much more stickier than the all season from the factory (This option is available from Honda in warmer areas for only $200) this make a huge difference taking this fun daily driver to a whole new level of excitement. This is a 10/10 car, meaning you can use 100% of its capabilities 100% of the time on the street. It’s crazy fun, cheap to maintain and insure plus running 93 octane effortlessly gets over 35MPG.
