You can't go wrong with Honda

I drove several other brands in this category but kept coming back to Honda Civic. Mazda 3 was sporty and fun to drive but was noisy and had poor visibility due to small windows. Hyundai Elantra seemed unrefined but was cheaper. Honda Civic does a great job across the board. Acceleration is not bad. The car is smooth and quiet. Steering is soft and precise. Lots of features are standard. I love the two tier dash and Navi Assist. Interior is spacious and looks good. Excellent visibility all around. If you are looking for a work horse for long commute with smooth quiet and comfortable ride this is the car you want to consider. Yes excellent MPG that nobody else can beat.

No concerns whatsoever with this '15 Civic

I'm getting 34 mpg with a mixture of city and highway driving. Comfortable ride. It's pushing 100 degrees daily in Memphis right now, and the A/C is strong on this little car. I use it to commute about 50 miles per day. The tech is great. Great car for the money.

I'm Back in a Honda Again

James, 10/23/2015
2015 Honda Civic SE 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl CVT)
38 of 39 people found this review helpful

I've been through a lot of cars in my life, and I'd love to recount them for you all, but there's a character limit here. Instead, let me just say that everything about this car meets or exceeds what I expected, aside from a few small things. The interior is huge, the car is gorgeous, the electronics are beyond what I expected, and the price is very reasonable for a low-end sedan. I'm financing my new Civic, and I have it in "Honda commercial silver", but I already love it. It's smooth, comfortable and quiet. The stereo is great, and the velocity-based audio is a treat. It's getting 37mpg right now, but it's not even broken in. Acceleration and braking are too smooth to be real, and slamming on the brakes or putting the pedal to the metal feel like you're barely changing speed. The smooth changing transmission is amazing for that. No jerky shifting in this auto. I'm dropping about $400 a month on it, and when it's paid off, I'll be happy about that. The seats are comfortable, the touch screen works well, and I would give it a "great" if it weren't for the fact that only iPhones seem to mesh well. Still, bluetooth and USB work excellently with this car. Overall, a quiet, well-controlled environment inside, a beautiful exterior with the chrome bar in the front and the smooth styling, and for a sedan, it's really sexy. There are some "bad" parts though. The trunk is relatively small, compared to say, a Hyundai Sonata, but that's more like a 4-banger Accord. Ultimately, I'd much rather drive my Civic than a Sonata. The backup and right-turn cameras are awesome, but I'm not sure I trust them yet. I'm still really leery of both cameras. The little guide rails given are great, but I just can't hand myself over to the computer and camera and still find myself wrapping my right arm around the passenger seat to look out the back. The pillars in the back are atrociously huge and create giant blind spots, but that's where the right-turn camera comes into play. It really doesn't have the guts that the older Civics did, with its roughly 10 second 0-60, but it does still feel responsive, despite that. The ABS is strong and you never feel the jerky push-pull of older systems, and hitting curves feels just as simple as the 1995 version. All-manual seat adjustment is kinda sad for a car in this range, but it's a tiny quibble, with the ability to raise and lower the seat being a new thing for me, even if I do have to do it manually. It also has a slightly wider turn radius than I expected, but still pretty nice. It also seems to attract bugs, maybe they're turned on by the beauty of the front end, which is far better than model years newer and older. Overall, these minor issues are extremely minor, while the positives are huge. If you want a new car that will save you money on gas for a relatively low price, this is absolutely the way to go. Keep the eco on, drive the speed limit, and ignore the jerks who want to get to work a whole 3 minutes earlier. This is no beastly sports car, but if you're looking for that, you're in the wrong place. If you want something that won't cost you and arm and a leg to use, you've found it. Don't bother leasing; this thing will keep its value far more than most cars. It's smooth, simple, efficient and fun to drive. There are so many things I like and so few I don't, give it a test drive at least before the 2016s ruin the look for you.

Excellent commuter car

I needed a commuter car and did lots of internet research, and it came down to the Mazda3 or this Honda, but the Toyota corolla would have been a fine choice as well. The mazda3 had better mileage and was a sportier driver, but the seats were hard and uncomfortable for me putting my thick wallet in my hip pocket. The Honda seats are way more comfortable and the ride is a tad softer. It is a well made car with great fit and finish, moreso than I would expect (last econobox I bought was 15 years ago). ######## March 2017 update- still a great car getting 36mpg overall, 42mpg on the highway! Still love the car. My only complaint after a year of owning is that the nav system could be much better. The touch screen will send you no where near the spot you put your finger on sometimes, very aggravating. the traffic updates are great however. ######## Sept 2019 Update- I still on the car now with over 50,000 miles on it and it is still going strong and reliable as ever the drivers door lock mechanism failed but other than that I have had zero problems. I am still getting gas mileage on the highway in the 40 mile per gallon range. I couldn’t be happier with the car ######### March 2022 update Still happy with the car. Getting great gas mileage and no repairs. Over 100k miles and sailing along. Most reliable car I have ever owned. ########% March2023. Still a fantastic little car getting 38 miles a gallon with absolutely no mechanical difficulty whatsoever. I will never sell it.

I traded in a 2009 Toyota Sienna for the 2015 Honda Civic EX 4-door sedan. I didn't need the mom van anymore, and was looking for a fun little car at an affordable price that had "bells and whistles". I researched new cars for 3-4 months, and felt pretty sure the Honda Civic was my best fit, although I admit I was hesitant to go from a van with a v6 engine with great pickup-and-go to a 1.8 cyl CVT. I shouldn't have worried. The Civic has no problem with acceleration, even starting uphill after standing still. The ride is very comfortable, and I commute an hour and a half every day. The interior is very attractive. I love the sunroof. It has auto air, so I set it to one temperature and hardly ever have to mess with the air control. It's sporty and fun to drive. The price can't be beat. It's a terrific car at a great price with great features. I would recommend this car to anyone. 7 months later, and I'm still in love with this car. I was asked to update my review. I've owned this car for over a year now, and I'm still in love with it. I have a long daily commute, and I still look forward to making it in this car. The gas mileage is terrific. The car is fun to drive, comfortable, and roomy for it's type. The trunk holds much more than you would think, and with the back seats folding forward, I can haul much more than I ever imagined. I would recommend this car to anyone, hands down. Oh, and get one with a sunroof. You won't be disappointed.

What else can I say? A typical just get in and drive it Honda. Never a worry or fear...just drive it, change fluids and filters (I just do that myself) and nothing else. Do they ever break down? It may not have the fastest acceleration but it has been averaging over 37 mpg for the first 52k miles, easy to operate, and love the console display screen.

Great College Car

The compact car market has a multitude of options which made it somewhat difficult for me to find the appropriate vehicle; however, the Honda Civic was the best in terms of value, comfort, fuel economy, and reliability. Honda’s are not very common in my area and I was lucky to find a 2015 Honda Civic LX in white with a beige interior — exactly what I was looking for. The LX has plenty of standard features such as a backup camera and Bluetooth. The EX would have been nice, but the added features and technology could cause problem down the road; not to mention the extra price premium. I have been averaging 33-36 MPG with around 70 percent city and 30 percent highway driving. The road and wind noises are definitely noticeable and can be a tad loud on uneven or rough pavement; the sound system is speed sensitive, however, which helps drown out the unwanted noise. The interior design is outstanding. I love the huge dash with clear, easy-to-read gages and read-outs. Visibility is amazing with clear sight lines and a low cowl. The backup camera is impressively clear which aids when backing up. Front seat comfort is average for a 5’9’’ male and I have plenty of room. The vehicle does not exceed any standards; however, it does do everything right.

Love my Civic

Great value! I recently traded in my '07 Civic for a brand new '15. I wasn't expecting anything short of spectacular, and I got what I expected. Pros: *Awesome standard tech & safety features *Ride height (not too low) and good rearward visibility *Excellent steering & acceleration, yet very quiet cabin & high mpg *large trunk, good amount of storage *EX options are well worth the extra$$ (blind spot camera, moonroof, touch screen infotainment, smart entry, & black accented alloy wheels) Cons: *the cloth seats. Previously, Honda did a good job with keeping the cloth simple yet comfortable & attractive. In Civic's recent production years the cloth is patterned, shiny, thin, rough & cheap looking. Doesn't look like it can take too much wear & tear, but only time will tell. *center console arm rest has no cushion, extremely hard on elbows *lack of headroom for very tall drivers (only in models with moonroof). I chose the EX partially for the added value of a moonroof, but the moonroof also cuts down headroom by an inch or two. I'm 6'4" though, so not your average driver. I LOVE my Civic, even with the couple minor complaints. I'm looking forward to driving it the next couple years and can't wait for my next Honda purchase. Great, dependable brand.

It's a great car. Occasionally there's a slight hesitation upon accelerating from being stationary, but otherwise fine. Great design, reliability (so far), performance, gas mileage, electronics, entertainment system, handling on corners, etc.

It is a rather sport car that greatly mixes price of ownership and fun to drive. It is rare that after owning a car for three years that you can still like it. It promised and delivered the fuel economy on the sticker mostly getting above 30 mpg. I would recommend this car for anyone who is on a budget but wants a fun car to drive. It checks all those boxes.

Let me start by saying; of all the cars I test drove, the 2015 Civic LX had the most comfortable interior in the affordable small car class, so that's why I leased it. Here's the things I do not like about the car: The transmission or the CVT as it is called. If you enjoy the driving experience, you'll hate this transmission like I do. Hit the gas, nothing happens, and then the rpms go up and you start to move. It's called the motorboat effect. This transmission is continually shifting and it's very annoying. Who wants a car that is shifting from 70mph to 72? I was having a hard time driving it. I thought something was wrong with the transmission so I took it back to Honda dealer. Mechanic just laughed and said, "that's the way they made it". The other mechanic said, "next time, get the 6-speed". All the frustration is magnified, when running the A/C. I read online that this transmission will get one more mile to the gallon. 1 more mpg? Ridiculous. Around 2,000 miles, the engine developed a loud ticking noise, so back to the Honda Dealer. Was told it is noisy valves and "that's the way Honda makes it". Inside door panel pops in and out when raising and lowering door windows. Has to be a design or manufacturing flaw. Back up camera pretty useless. Can't see much when the sun is out and does not make a noise or visual warning before you back into something. No matter how high you lift the seat, you can't see the front of the car. Can't even see the hood for that matter so be prepared to hit some curbs, especially when parking. Suspension pretty weak and soft brake pedal takes too long to stop the car. Taking car in to get the dim lights adjusted. Would like to see more than 100 feet when driving at night. Interior is cool and car looks nice, but the lack of response on the road makes this car a not so fun driver and will be trading it in soon.

Front seat head rests arre awkward in that it pushes your head forward bu realigning the seat can reduce that issue, this is common in all new Hondas and I am told is a safety feature to avoid wipe lash. I at first did not like the little extra windows in front of each side mirror but they do let in more light and make it less cramped feeling.

I recently purchased a 2015 Civic at end of model year. It looks good, has that solid Honda feel, plenty of pep, and roomier that I expected. It has as much interior room as the 2005 Accord Coupe I used to have. Love the back up camera. Gas mileage has leveled out at 30 mpg for the past 6 months; mostly all in-town driving. Price was good. Paid $17,300 before tax and license. Only negative is there is a bit more road noise than I'd like on worn highways; hardly any on newly paved. I understand the 2016 is improved in that regard.

Honda Hits a Home Run!

My 2001 Honda Civic LX with 268k miles finally had to go due to mounting repair costs and I ended up replacing it with this beauty. This car is solidly built for a "basic" car. The interior has a clean look and the outside looks quite sharp. I opted for a 5spd Manual since my prior car was one and admit it is quite peppy with a smooth clutch. I walked off the lot with the car brand new for $15,200 (not including tax, fees, etc). The car handles very well, with very little road noise on the freeways and is quite responsive (avg 35 MPG, 60% Freeway). My only gripe was the stock radio was not very good with a lot of static, I am not sure if it's the area I live but my prior car didn't have the issue. I wanted an LX since I could swap out the center console that was better then what Honda (Honda Link) made, I ended up replacing the OEM ratio with a Pioneer 4100NEX (Android Auto/Apple Car Play, HD Radio, etc) which ran $500 out the door. For the price and what you get with the whole package you can't go wrong. I had a choice with the 2016 but the 2015 model was by far a better deal and with the new radio, brings in many features the 2016 model incorporates for a premium. Out the door for a car brand new <16k you can't go wrong, I think a comparable car with the upgrades would go for >23k. Overall a great buy and reliable so far.

Well, I got such a good deal, can't complain. I bought at the end of the year and got it for $17,500. Then I negotiated lifetime powertrain warranty, 2 year maintenance, 0% financing, over blue book trade in. Klein Honda in Everett, WA is great. So, the car runs great, quiet, comfortable (minus the darn head restraints/rests). Quick to accelerate on freeways. Stops on a dime. Great on the snow (I have Michelin X-Ice's for the winter). I'm getting average of 30mpg, but I drive in the city most of the time. I did get 38 MPG on a road trip over the mountain pass. Mine came with big touch screen and lane watch (which I turned off). Nice thing is my wife has a 2014 Honda CRV and the controls are almost identical. We can jump into either cars, adjust the seats and mirrors and off we go. Compared to the CRV, this civic is quieter, quicker steering, and accelerates quicker. I love both of them, but the Civic has a much sportier feel. The CRV has its advantages too, like a lot more trunk space and really good traction in 2 feet of snow (CRV has Blizzak's for the winter). The engine was a little noisy first few hundred miles during startup, but went away after it broke in. The CVT transmission took a little getting used to, but if you don't look for the transmission to shift and don't worry about it, it is really seamless and smooth. I do wish it had more trunk space and better head rests. Darn head rests cant forward so much that if you like to sit up straight, you are looking at the steering wheel instead of the road. So I just recline a little, but it makes me feel like I'm a gangster or something.

I'm very satisfied with the purchase of my 2015 Honda Civic. It is a stylish looking small car which has excellent fuel economy and handles very well. I've only had the vehicle about a month, but I know that Honda has a reputation for dependability and reliable service. As a result, I have peace of mind knowing that if my Civic ever does need repair or maintenance, I have qualified representatives available to assist me. I look forward to many years of pleasurable driving.

I am currently leasing a 2015 Honda Civic from a local dealership. The main reason I decided on the Honda Civic was for the price. As a full-time college student, the low payments fit my budget. I had been driving my parents’ Honda Accord and wasn’t expecting the Civic to be that great. However, I’ve grown to love it. The responsiveness of the car is great. The steering is spot-on. It doesn’t overshoot or cut a corner close when steering unless you drive that way. The accelerating and braking are also amazing and has kept me from an accident or two. In less than 5 seconds, it can go from 60 down to 15 without loss of vehicle control. Overall, the driving is smooth and easy to handle. The interior is comfortable in the front seat. Don’t think about passengers as they don’t have much room for legs in the back. Another great feature is the fuel economy button which increases the MPG.

Foul trash/garbage odor in cabin

I purchased a new 2015 Honda Civic in Dec 2014. Brought it home + parked it in the garage + the next day it had a foul trash/garbage smell in the cabin. My dealership recommended leaving the windows open to air it out. It's a new car - why should I have to air it out? Took it into the dealership, where they left my car + another new civic in the garage overnight. They agreed that BOTH cars had an odor. They detailed the car to cover the smell, but it didn't help. I brought it back so the Honda representative could take a look -he said it was fine. I called Honda customer service-their stand was nothing needed to be replaced, so it basically wasn't their problem. Very disappointed with Honda.

2015 Civic is allergic to Android software and I was not told that. You can make calls etc but you have to use your phone first. No such thing as contact book. The software is all Apple based. I commute 80 miles each way to work and I've put 2105 miles averaging 37.6 (actual, not computer) and I find the interior noise level to be very quite and the ride to be very comfortable. The computer is 3% overstated, which is normal for nearly all cars. I'm very satisfied with the vehicle. UPDATE: I'm very satisfied with the vehicle with the exception of the apple issue above. I get about about 40 mpg on the road when driving within 5 mpg of the speed limit. I don't do much in town driving so I can't comment on that. It is strictly a commuting vehicle.

Must be used to Driving an Accord

S T, 09/07/2015
2015 Honda Civic EX-L 4dr Sedan w/Navigation (1.8L 4cyl CVT)
7 of 9 people found this review helpful

I'm very surprised at the consistently high reviews of this car, to be honest. Perhaps I'm just used to the ride of an Accord, after owning three consecutive Accords (1993, 2001, 2010), but I can't seem to get over the fact that I feel every bump in the road in this car (2015 EX-L w/navigation). Perhaps there's a suspension or tire inflation issue with mine, but I didn't imagine buying a new car and feeling bumps driving over even painted crosswalks. Radio and heat controls are not intuitive (again, possibly just based on experience with Accords). Nice enough looking car, especially for a Civic, but will definitely be unloading this car once it is paid off in a few months, after owning Accords for an average of close to 15 years each.

I bought this car for my daughter. She commutes to school. Great gas mileage. Good all-round car. I like the 5 star safety rating. The only thing we really had a problem with are the seats. The cloth seats stain very easily. I mean if you spill clean water on them, it left a stain. So, I had a leather kit installed. Looks a thousand times better. Scotch guard the seats if you buy a new one.

Reliable car, never had any mechanical problems. Gets good MPG. Nice sound system and touchscreen. Love the leather seats and doors + seat warmers. Blind spot camera is awesome and helps a lot. One thing I did notice at about 30,000 miles I started to feel a vibration when in reverse and holding the brake. Possible motor mount to my knowledge. Also if I have the AC on and in park I’m getting a Vibration / knocking sound as well. Something I need to fix. Other than that the car has been good. I recommend going with specific tires though, 215/45R17 Bridgestone Ecopia EP422, or the Michelin Energy Saver. These tires will get you the best gas mileage possible. Right now I have Presa’s and it dropped the gas mileage down to 29MPG which is still decent but apparently the car is supposed to get 36MPG. Other than those few things the car is great I love it it’s a good nice daily that has not failed me in the 2 years of owning and putting over 40,000 miles / year

No issues after 4 years

I leased this vehicle and then bought it. I've had it for almost 4 years now and I have zero complaints. I've taken it in for oil changes, tire rotations and normal maintenance but haven't had any other issues. The entertainment system is very intuitive, I can make and answer calls hands free. My only complaint is that on long road trips, usually on hot days with 5+ hours of driving the tire pressure warning will go off. When this happens I pull over and check the pressure on all 4 tires and there are no issues, I reset the sensor, but the issue will continue to happen until the vehicle has been off the road for a while. I asked the Honda dealership about it and they said that the only way they could know which sensor(s) are faulty would be if I brought the vehicle in when it was throwing that error. Unfortunately for me it was always inconvenient to bring it in while on a road trip, I'd say during the 4 years I've had this vehicle it happened once or twice per year, overall not the biggest issue but it has been mine only issue which I would say is a win! I highly recommend this vehicle.

Great little car. Instruments and controls are just where you expect them to be ( except that I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A TEMPERATURE GUAGE!!!!). The car shifts great, and the seat is more ergonomic and comfortable than the 2010 Honda Civic. It also allows short people to see over the steering wheel (this is a big deal). There's also a neat little display showing your mpg at all times. Very peppy and hugs the road. There was something wrong with the bluetooth, and Honda replaced the unit. The Bluetooth is a mixed bag however, everytime I want to use SIRI, or MAPS, I have to turn Bluetooth off on my phone. Siri and Maps are NOT compatible with Bluetooth.

I went into purchasing this car and was hesitant at first. I started looking for cars with Hyundai and such before, and did not like them one bit. I started researching other cars such as Chevrolet Cruze and just Honda in general. Less than 5 minutes at the dealer and I was offered a test drive. The car is fantastic, have had it for 2 months and still love it. Great first new car. (Got rid of my 2004 Ford Taurus - wanted an upgrade) Edit: it's now been 8 months since I've gotten the civic and I still love it very much. As it is a 3 year lease, in a couple of years I'll have to decide whether or not to renew it. Theoretically, I will; however being a young man a newer version may be out and I may want that. All in all, I'm sticking with Hondas.

To be fair, this car drives wonderfully on the highway. If that is your intended type of driving, this car is worth considering. That said, I drive mostly in town and am mostly disappointed with the performance (acceleration) and Bluetooth (hands free calling). The acceleration with the CVT is dismal, especially from a standstill. It is so slow that I would consider it dangerous. The hands free functionality leaves much to be desired as well. The microphones are located on the console near the air vents; if the A/C is running (and you have a low pitched voice), you are almost entirely inaudible to the person you are calling. Sadly, these issues are deal breakers for me. I had higher expectations of Honda.

Honda needs to go back to the drawing board with their CVT trans. I paid $20k for the car and 4 years later is worth $2k after the trans blew! Not good. Since I’m past the warranty Honda won’t do anything about it. The transmission shop I called wants nothing to do with it. Not good ! I’m not at all happy and that comes from a very loyal Honda person.

I own a 2004 Honda Civic EX which gets very very good mileage, STILL. Just recently purchased (09/2015) the 2015 model, and it is much worse in terms of gas mileage. I loved Honda up until this. I have no bad words for Honda, but this just sucks in terms of quality. I am averaging 24-26 mpg in the city, and that is with grandma type driving. I purposely have been driving that way, to test the mileage accurately. Update (08/2016): We noticed the navigation system is just awful, after multiple attempts at use. The gps does not work properly in relation to the navigation, because it will give you locations of items in states thousands of miles away. If you don't search under the proper category, you will not find your desired item. Basically, you need to know the proper category to search for each destination. Also, the sirius xm radio has too many dead areas within a large metropolis. It could also be a problem with the car's system or antennae. Overall, the ENTIRE computer system that handles the navigation and entertainment is SLOW SLOW SLOW. As for mileage, it seems to have gotten a little better. However, it's still not on par with the ratings on the sticker.

Most uncomfortable driving position ever!

Lorax Lorax, 11/12/2015
2015 Honda Civic LX 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl CVT)
21 of 38 people found this review helpful

The head restraints (mandated by the U.S. government?) push your head forward and down as if you are reading an iPad. In order to see the road in front of you, you must tilt your head forward and look through your eyebrows while cricking your neck. In that position, you will get a neck and backache in five minutes of driving. The head restraints are not adjustable, just up and down. You have to set the seat uncomfortably back to have any reasonable driving position. These restraints will probably save your neck and back in case of a collision at the expense of definitely wrecking your neck and back every day. A new Civic sedan should come with a lifetime free weekly visit to the chiropractor. The base of the front seats are also unusually thin and non supportive. I did not buy this car because I can't imagine driving it for any length of time. Also, there is significant instrumentation far forward (where the wipers are!) that make them impossible to read if your wear bifocals (too close for far vision and too far for close vision). Do not buy this car if you wear glasses or if you don't want to destroy your neck and back.

No Water Temperature Gauge is in the Civic. It has the idiot lite instead. I tell my friends to stay away from this civic. In my opinion, a water temp. gauge is critical to being able to prevent problems before things get out of control. Example: When in stop and go traffic or on trips where there are lots of hills you want to be able to monitor if your engine water temp. is starting to go up ... Why? because if you have your air conditioner on, you will want to turn off your AC for a while so the temp. gauge does not go up and stress out your water hoses and engine. When this car gets to be a few years older and i put stress on my old water hoses because i cannot see What the temp. is, the car will be less reliable. I drive in areas in the United States where there are signs on the roads where there are long grades that say, " watch your engine temp." and prevent "boil overs". Its is amazing the Honda Corporation does not realize how people in many areas of America would be much better off with a water temp. gauge. This lack of in site with Honda Corporation raises a "red flag" to be careful with buying a Honda product because i wonder what else in all their dumb wisdom have they overlooked.

Had a 2014 with 168,000 km and still have a 2015 with 176,000 km I can say very happy with the value and reliability. Great fuel economy. Car gets a little boring after 5 years but I’ll keep the 2015 till it dies. No surprises, got exactly what I was hoping for when buying. Only negative is seats are a nightmare for water stains. 2014 had light coloured seats and we go to the beach often. Hard to get out. 2015 has black seats which hides them better but still an issue. Car doesn’t have any of the newer safety technology but is very very reliable. Outside of regular maintenance haven’t had to perform and unexpected repairs.
