Great car, fix the headrests

Nice car. Good mileage (38mpg @ 1200 miles, mostly highway). 5 speed auto is nice, even coming from a stick, though I could do without it downshifting quite so aggressively. Only major problem sounds silly... The front headrests are too far forward, pushing your head forward and making it _very_ uncomfortable to drive for some folks (and my wife is one of them...) We didn't notice it on the test drive with all the other "I'm in a new car" stuff going on, but be sure and check it out if you're considering one of these.

Very Happy LX Owner

After 2200 miles I must say that we are very happy. Average MPG is 34 city and 39 highway. I recently drove the car on a 14 hour drive and the seats were uncomfortable after just a few hours of driving. While on vacation, the car was parked under a tree and suffered acron damage on the hood - I think that the hood sheet metal is a bit thin. The overall driving experience is excellent, however, the auto transmission seems to search for the correct gear on hills and highways - it is slow to up and downshift. Build quailty and materials are excellent - our Atomic Blue Civic (which we call Pug) was built in Japan and I am hoping it will provide years of safe, reliable service.

Great Car, Great Experience

I had this car for almost 3 years and loved it. We drove it mostly on the hwy out in the country where we live. It survived the tough Iowa winters with no problem. Never had trouble starting on the coldest days. Only things we did for it was take it in for reg. maintenance and oil changes/tire rotations. Put 80,000 miles on it w/no problems. Fell even more in love w/this car after husband landed upside down in a ditch and walked away from the accident. Very safe, reliable car with great gas mileage. We averaged 40 mpg year round, w/ mostly highway miles. Could be roomier, but is surprisingly roomy for such a small car. However, it is light and can blow around a bit in Iowa's strong winds.

I have been very pleased with my Civic. Alot of people hate the interior but I enjoy the futuristic looks. The seats are very sturdy and comfortable, although the plastic and paint is like many said cheap and scratches easily. Sunroof, Ipod hookup, multiple airbags, digital speedometer have all been nice features. This car does get excellent gas mileage BUT at a price for power... very very poor passing power on 2 lane roads. With all that said it has been a very reliable car, just the normal wear and tear upkeep.

Traded in a 05 2 door Civic LX for the 06 4 door EX. Even though car has more ponies it will get you where you want but still seems weak on horsepower. The design of the car really caught my eye, and the materials are of the quality you would expect. The price is not bad considering you get moon roof, alloy wheels, side curtain air bags,ABS, and a sticker EPA of 40mpg hwy. I had compared the new Jetta and the Mazda 3. The Jetta was more expensive and both did not get the EPA mileage the Civic is supposed to. As I said "its a Honda". This new Civic is a good looker but still is pretty plain vanilla when it comes to driving experience. Reliability rated excellent but really have not had long enough

I am getting about 27/31 on the fuel economy, the spring on the seat belt retract device causes the seat belt to fly into the door panel cause small marks. The drivers door does not close unless it is slammed. the body panels on the drivers side don't line up like they should. Is this because it was built in america i wonder. The passenger airbag light comes on half the time. When the brake is applied and you hit a bump or going over rough terrain the brake pedal feels really wear, like something broke off or is loose. I think getting the air deflector for the sunroof is a must.

Everyone is talking about how great this car is. I agree, overall. But as counterpoint to the glowing reviews, I thought I'd give a few negative impressions from my first few days of driving it. First, the parking brake handle digs into my right knee when my foot is off the gas (cruising). Second, I find the speedometer distracting. It is always in your line of vision and I find myself paying a bit too much attention to it at the expense of watching the road. I can hear the gas sloshing around in the tank when I come to a stop (radio off). Radio features are nice, but sound quality is less than I expected, AM especially poor. These are overall, minor flaws in an otherwise GREAT car.

A Very Nice Car Overall, but...

I liked this car enough to switch from twenty-plus years of VW Jettas. It's beautifully made. It handles nicely and the ride isn't bad, and it's as quiet as I'd want, even with the moonroof open. The audio sounds great, though radio reception isn't very good. The thick windshield corner posts (struts?) obstruct vision, quite seriously on left turns. The transmission has trouble deciding what gear it wants to be in on grades at speed. I wonder where all the reviewers reporting 35-40 mpg live and drive - I have to do a lot of maneuvering in and around traffic on long, stiff interstate grades, and even with a lot of more relaxed driving averaged in, I'm getting 29-31 mpg city/hwy.

What a difference between my old 1998 Civic EX and the 2006. Unbelievable!!! The tightness of handling is incomparabe. The exterior styling looks like a baby Beamer! I was seriously test-driving the Acura TSX, but for the $10,000 savings, I had to buy the Civic. Wish list would include optional leather seats. Also surprised the visors are not lit - they're substantial, but lack lights.

I am not a car fanatic. In fact, I select a car based on solely practical reasons and for the fewest number of "buttons." Let's keep things simple. Having said all that, let me assure you that the '06 Honda Civic could actually make me a car fanatic. I've owned four Hondas previously and a couple of American cars--none has been as much fun to drive as the '06 LX. It handles beautifully, feels solid, provides ample room, and is filled with easy to use features in terms of climate control, radio, windows, and the like. A truly well engineered, user friendly automobile.

I have had my new civic for about 3 weeks now. This car is a great value for a young family, where driving a mom mobile is just not satisfying. Its great fun to drive, although it does lack the power I expected. This car does not feel or look like it costs. I think anyone who has owned a Honda previously would love this car. We stepped down from looking at Accords to buy this new Civic. I honestly never thought I would be driving a Civic. Its a Honda... you get what you pay for. The new safety features and size increase were crucial in my decision making.

The 2006 civic EX 4 door Sedan with automatic transmission is surprisingly similar to the 2005 Accord in smoothness. The engine noise is very well isolated and the interior is much roomier than the previous generation of Civics. The automatic tranny has 5 gears vs the previous 4 gears and has a VTECH head which makes the car much more suitable for city driving than the previous model. In other words, it has alot more acceleration at low speeds although the '06 civic, in general, is NOT noticeably more performant than its predecessor due to its increased weight.

I purchased the car earlier this month. I noticed an oil leak a few days ago. The car is leaking oil from the main seal and the oil filter. Also, the passenger restraint light stayed on this morning until I turned the car off and started it again. I have taken the car to a Honda dealer in an effort to correct these problems. Therefore, I am very concerned regarding the build quality and reliability of this car.

My wife had a Toyota Sienna that was totaled in an accident. We didn't need another large car so we decided to go with a small car. We considered the Corolla but this car had so much new technology and safety features going for it that the decision was an easy one. Our other criteria was mpg and reliability. Apparently it's fun to drive because I rarely get the opportunity. My wife really enjoys driving it and has absolutely no regrets having bought it.

I purchased my 06 Civic EX Sedan 11/9/05 and it was love at 1st sight. The cars overall look and brand quality it was attracted me to it. After I went back to the dealership for a test drive and closer look is when I knew it was for me. I am over 6 ft tall and have a lot of room in the car and the seats are comfortable and are easy to adjust. The interior of the car speaks for itself (Wow Factor). It was cleverly thought out except for the parking break. Even though the engine is a 1.8 4 cylinder, the Civic moves quickly on the highways and handles great and is eassy to park. The exterior of the car is stylish and looks great. I get a lot of looks from others and I LOVE my new Honda.

I bought the Civic because it was close in size to my '96 Accord and the price was right. I didn't realize that squirrels find my wiring harness so tasty and I've had to spend over $500 repairing. I asked if there is anything that can be done to protect the wiring harness. Nope. Evidently they like the foam that surrounds it. At 34k I need a real ABS sensor and was told it was covered under warranty. Went to pickup the car and had to pay for it in order to get my car back. I have loved Honda's but they need to get a 10yr 100000k warranty. Next time I will look at a Hyundai. One more thing...the dash and glove box rattles terrible. No fix for that either.

Have had the Civic for 2 weeks now and loving every minute of it. Took a long trip this weekend with the 2 kids and it was a tight fit with the car seats but it is a "compact" car. We now have 1200 miles on the car and have gotten 35-36 mpg. It is a very responsive car and fun to drive. No problems thus far. Highly recommend it if it is not to small. (the drivers seat fits tall and short people very well thanks to the adjustable steering wheel and seat)

I love this car! The last time I bought a car was ten years ago. My family has always bought Ford vehicles so I initially looked there but was not impressed. I researched and test drove vehicles over two months before I decided on this fantastic car. Great ride. Excellent gas mileage. Convenient dash controls. It looks sleek. It is suprisingly spunky for a little car!! Love all the standard safety features.

I have the Civic EX sedan. This car is truly the master of all cars in its class, and even surpasses the higher priced Beamer's et al. The ride is smooth, it handles bumps in the road quite well and even with the sun roof open, it's still fairly quiet. The controls are not difficult to understand or reach. The NUMEROUS standard safety features made me purchase this car over everything else, and of course, the fuel economy. It's quite roomy too, my 6 foot 5 cousin was able to drive it comfortably. I previously owned a 99 civic sedan and it's amazing how different both are. In two words, Awesome Tens!

I live in the city of Chicago and I am only capable of getting 23-24 mpg. Where is this 30 that they keep advertising. I mean it has been very consistent at 23 or 24 mpg. I'm claiming false advertising! The stereo in the LX sounds pretty bad and I will likely add some new speakers to get to help improve the sound quality.

We orignally were purchasing an '05 Civic, but went shopping in September and they ran out. When looking at the '06, there were so many more safety features standard. Safety and Mileage were our main considerations when deciding to purchase. During the test drive, we fell in love. The drive is smooth and responsive. You want to rev up the engine and GO! The new body and interior design just made it that much easier to say YES to the car. Our best mileage so far is around 35 MPG on the highway, but the car is only a month old. City driving seems to run only 25 MPG. No regrets. We will buy another Civic if this trend keeps up.

This is a nice looking car and also fun to drive. Although it's small for 5 adults, but how many times you have 5 people in the car anyway. I also ave. 29-30 miles per gallon, city. I haven't tried highway yet. The 140 horse is not bad too, a little slow on the start, but when it goes you won't be disappointed. Just remember its only 140 horse not 240. The interior is not bad too. Something different. I'm glad I bought this car. Honda USA did agood job.

The gas mileage is fantastic - I have never gotten under 32 mpg and I have gotten up to 39. Turning radius is good and the brakes are very tight, just the way I like it. The clutch is solid, allows for a broad range of shifting times, and is fast and easy to use. Can't wait for my first road trip with it!

The first time I saw this car on the internet I realized that it was just the answer for the car I was looking for to buy. The first time I drove the civic just made me feel part of the future, full of inteligent concepts, all in one: high-tech, art, reliability, security, fun, eco- friendly and comfort. I've bought a 4dr sedan w/nav system and I'm more than happy. I highly recommend this car. However, there's just one thing I dislike of it. The single cd changer behind the nav screen, not because it's behind, but because it's just for one cd. That's only one detail, and considering all the options to play audio data, and to discover multiple capabilities, the car just go forward.

I bought my 2006 Honda Civic and drove it for 2 1/2 years. LOVED it! Smooth, has great power, comfortable, perfect size. In August of 2008 I was rear ended in the fast lane of a 4-lane freeway. I was struck so hard my car flew sideways into the next lane where my drivers side door slammed into the back end of another car at a 90 degree angle. I then flew across 2 more lanes of traffic, up the embankment and into the scrub trees. I walked away with a bruised arm and a cracked rib. No whiplash, no serious broken bones. My car was totaled, but I found had retained 100% of it's value! His insurance gave me exactly what I'd paid for it 2 1/2 years earlier! I went out and bought a 2008 Honda Civic!

I bought this car in Dec '06, and could not be happier. I travel from San Antonio to Giddings every weekend. The first time I got 41.33 MPG and the second, I got 43.66 MPG. This was under ideal driving: I filled up just before I got on the highway and as soon as I got to my destination. I drove under 65 MPH without the air on. Absolutely no problems with the car. Many positive remarks from others. I bought the royal blue sedan. The car is quick without being neck breaking. I love the new two-tier instrument panel. Many good comments about this.

This is my second civic, being the previous a 2001 which served me well and never gave trouble. The change is dramatic. This generation is a bit upscale. Some features in security, the performance and the building quality are better that ANYTHING on the market for the same price. Handling feels better, even though I still miss the handling of the models previous to the 2001 when the fron suspension was redisigned. The only awkward thing found so far is the location of the parking brake release, which I was not very comfortable when the cruise control is activated. It comes with "extras" not advertised like the automatic lock of doors after 9 mph and the CD player that works great with wmas

I come from a Honda family, so the new Civic was a natural choice. It looks beautiful inside and out, drives well and is an all around fun car to have. Everything about it screams quality. It looks much more expensive than it is. The only thing that bugged me a little bit was the "check fuel cap" warning came on for no apparent reason after having the car for only a few weeks, and it took about a week before it finally went away. That was the only glitch so far, and it wasn't even a real problem. I highly recommend the Civic to anyone!

This is my first non North American Vehicle and I'm kicking myself that I didn't make this move years ago. This car is well powered, great on gas (average 32mpg), incredibly solid, handles better than any car I have ever owned, smooth riding, is well designed, great materials inside, really sharp exterior. The seats are also very comfortable on a long trip with near infinite ways to adjust the seat. It's tough to find something not to like. This car has been well thought out and well built. Not tough to see why some North American manufacturers are having problems. Put this one at the top of your list.

I never thought I would drive a Honda

A few months ago, my husband and I were test driving cars. He loves Honda. (I had a Ford Focus ZX3 that I just loved, but he felt it was too small for him. He is 6'2".) We test drove the 2005 Civic EX, and I didnt like anything about it. Then, we saw an ad for the new 2006 Civics, and we decided to give it a try. Wow! Am I glad we did. We bought one that day. I truly enjoy driving it in traffic or on the highway. The gas mileage has been excellent. The engine is so quiet. The performance of this car is outstanding. I get looks all the time from other Honda drivers, checking out the new, sleek style of the Civic. I absolutely LOVE this car!

Overall, I am very pleased. I was afraid it would not be roomy enough, but I was pleasantly surprised! Much more room than I thought. Only negative thing is you cannot see the front of your car. Makes it hard to pull into garage , but I will adjust! Many more positives! The reputation of HONDA, also is a great plus ~ the maintenance of the vehicle is easy also! Plan on keeping it for many years!!

I always do thorough research before buying and eliminated most cars with my first criteria for excellent MPG. (30 town/40 hwy minimum) I then started test driving various models from various mfg's over the course of two months. Many cars have very good ratings for MPG, reliability, etc. but the '06 Civic was so far ahead of the others on a visceral, fun-to-drive level it was no contest. Loved it! In this price range the Civic interior (including the dash) has a more upscale feel than other cars. Co-workers, friends, & family have been uniform in admiring the car for looks and performance. Excellent commuter and good in the snow.

Fantastic mileage (34mpg city, 47mpg hwy so far), vastly improved shoulder room in frt seat for 6-footer (vs previous model),much better power (140 hp now)- not a rocket, but well matched to veh weight, quiet interior noise levels, 16" wheels + suspension give very planted feeling on the road at all speeds, high build quality and nice brushed aluminum trim levels inside, tight space in back seat, remote keyless buttons contained in key (no fob), modern dash & sloped windshield make it feel very spacious, however you are sitting very low to the road & will look up to other compacts. Shifter (5 spd man) is precise, but Mazda 3 is smoother. Side & side curtain airbags, ABS w/EBD-awesome package.

This car is very sporty as appearance is concerned, however it does not have as much power as I thought it might. I was astonished when I popped the hood. The engine and battery terminal are tiny. The car lacks quick acceleration but is quite fuel efficient. The safety features are top notch but lack of power is a bit of a let down from such a sporty looking car.

The car is awesome, very sharp from the outside and the inside is extremely comfortable. It is very quiet and the mileage has been good, upper 30s and the engine is yet to be broken in. I decided on a Civic after test driving a Mazda 3 and a Toyota Corolla. There was no contest on the purchase of a Civic. Honda has done a very good job with this car. It is no wonder this Civic was the Motor Trend Car of The Year! Again, very nice car for the money!

I replaced my 2001 Accord with the 2006 Civic looking for better MPG and handling; I got what I was looking for! It was a strange looking car at the time but since then more and more cars have the bullet shaped frame.

Incredibly impressed with this car. Thought I was buying an economy, dull car. This car drives like a formula one sports car. Great on gas, handles like a dream, roomy for such a small car.
