Used 2005 Honda Civic Consumer Reviews
Better than expected!
This is my first Honda. I have owned Chevys, Subarus, Mazdas and Pontiacs. I am sold. The tag said 36 mpg... I'm getting 42 mpg city. I am one happy owner of a little car.
Great Value / Solid Buy
This is not the first Honda we have owned. With Acura's and Honda's in the past this model lives up to the best our Honda's reputation. While slightly underpowered, a fair amount of road noise and seats that could go abit further back as the negatives still the positives overwhelm. Price, features, MPG, realibility cannot be beat.

Great car and fun to drive
I have not owned a car in about 15 years. My truck is a gas guzzler so I bought a civic. It gets great gas mileage and is fun to drive. Drove home in a rain/ice/snow storm recently and the car handled the icy road very well.
Get it if you want it
The interior needs to be updated. The radio/cd area is boring and lacks a fun design. The clear coat comes off easy, I already have a chip on my hood. Fun to drive, easy to customize. Needs a rear wing, and tinted windows. Low noise in the interior, good control, great on gas on the highway. No so much in the city.
Don't buy if you live in cold climate.
Everything is great about this car, except the climate control. I love the car, but the "heat" and a/c are very lame. It gets great gas mileage and easily holds 75 mph on the interstate. Fortunately not too much has gone wrong.
Civic sets the bar
This is a our commuter car (110,000) 108 miles a day, mostly highway @ 70mph. We get 35 to 38 mpg. We were pretty smart in 05 to get it then. I'm 6'1 and find it ok for the hour drive. My 16 year old twins hate the back seat but that is what the mini-van is for. Ok for quick hops. We have the autotrans (my wife's choice) and that takes some getting used to when braking. It automatically down shifts and feels like an additional brake. Before this Civic we had an 02 lx and it did the same thing. A feature? The 02 was never the same after the deer strike so we traded it in. All in all, great vehicle and we are looking at the 08 Civic lx - and the boys can't wait to get the 05
Update at 1,000 miles
Went to ocean city, md., 320 Miles round trip & the civic did great. Now for some negatives, they are small # 1 on a groved highway road noise is high (turn up stero or avoid groved surfaces) #2 the sun comes in front and raidates heat on your lap & the black dash gets warm( drive with a.C. On or open windows)# 3 stero display washes out in the sun light( shade the display with your hand to read) got 36.5 Mpg on the trip to o. C. All things consiered this car gets me the mpg i bought it for plus its fun to drive . Had the civic up to 80 on a bypass around salisbury where the speed limil is 65 only had it there briefly passing a truck. The cruise control on the steering wheel is nice
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BUD!!!
This is the car for people who need to get around and don't need to carry a lot of stuff with them. The little engine is competent, esp. with the 5 sp manual. The EX has everything you could ask for in a $15K car. Can be fun to drive, if you push it. Seats can get a little stiff after 300 miles or so. I say get one!! A great car!!!
Fine Car
The main things that have impressed me so far with my honda is the interior design. It is superb, especially for a vehicle in this price range. The performance also is good and makes this car fun to drive. I am not hot about the exterior design, but its handling and interior make up for it. Improvements: Widen the Body design, include a better sound system, add disc brakes and remote trunk entry. (which they have done to some extent with the 2006) I would recommend this vehicle based on my experience so far-Honda does hold up to its reputation for building cars that are fun to drive, display attention to quality and detail and reliable.
Amazing first car, but I was impatient
When I bought this car I new that the new model would be coming out in November, but I needed the car right then and there so I bought it. I love it to death it is my child, however I wish I could have waited for the new 6-speed 197 hp 2006 Si. None the less this car is quick, even with its' 160 hp engine for the first month I had it I peeled out almost everytime off the line. Overall I love this car and I don't think I will ever get anything but a Civic Si, unless VW comes out with a new R32. Man I love those hatchbacks.
Best All Around Car !!!
Best Vehicle every made in space & gas saver. Best all around family and sporty car..... All around best dealer customer service on the vehicle.
civics are awesome!
I got my civic a year ago today!! It is the most easy and fun car to drive!! All though i wish it did have a couple more safety features. (ie more air bags, my car just has the driver and passenger front air bags.) it's a great car, with an affordable price!
Honda from here on out!
Honda has done it again. Wish i could afford another one. These cars are awesome. I've owned Honda products for 11 years, and the Civic Si is More fun to drive than any other Honda ive owned before. No more domestics for me. Oh and 18 members of the family as well. Thank you again Honda.
the best
its fun to drive, it has fear, decent power. i drove the car to mexico from san antonio and made it all the way to my destination, drove it in mexico for 2 days and i still made it back to the border to refill my tank to come back to san antonio. what i was trying to do, is to find out how far the car can go with 1 full tank, i get about 430 mi. in the city, this time i wanted to pushed further, and the car gave me 562 miles on 1 full tank. this is a great honda, reliable, economic, etc. i love my 2004 honda civic ex. when the powerfull 200 hp civic si model comes to the market of san antonio in 2006, it will defenetly be in my drive way.
Best All Around Vehicle........
The best all around vehicle you can buy. it's Fun to Drive, the Performance is great, the Interior Design has lots and lots of room, the Reliability, is outstanding, and most of all the Fuel Economy is the best ever on this vehicle. It's like driving a BMW but it's a Honda. I think it's the best vehicle on the market. Customer service and repair service is outstanding. If your looking at the best vehicle to ahve look no further. Honda is there. I love my Honda..............
Nice Economical Car
I bought this car new in 2005. It has 75,000 miles. Only thing I've done on it is replace engine mount ($250); oil change, and replace tires. I've done Honda's recommended service at 30K and 50K. I have not changed the brakes yet or had any major repairs. The car gets excellent gas mileage. The car is very reliable and economical to drive. This car should not be thought of as a luxury car, but more as a practical car.
My New Civic, Although I Miss My Old One
I just purchased a used 2005 Civic EX M/T Special Edition and OMG. It is SAH- WEEEET. I traded in a 98 civic for this one and immediately i like the design from the 6-disc cd changer to the red illumination on the panel. the alloy wheels and the spoiler definately make the exterior look very sporty. all in all I miss my old civic but i REALLY love my new one. 5 Speed all the way baby. Civics are the reason I started driving manual and I'll never go back!
2005 Honda 4-door sedan
I have been in 3 crashes since I purched this car in March of 2005. Though slighly injuring my neck and upper shoulder areas, I escaped with no serious injuries. It is the safest small sedan on the market today IMHO. I generally get 35-40 mpg. July 27, 2006, I just turned over 10,000 mi. It is better than the 2 Accords I previously owned. I am very satisfied with my decision.
Hondas are not all they're cracked up to
I bought my 2005 civic ex coupe because I needed something that was fuel efficient which this one was not. From the time that I bought it I only managed to get 23 miles to the gallon in town, and on cold days it had trouble starting. The interior build quality was junk - push any where on the dash and the whole thing flexes, took to the dealer they could not explain the poor fuel economy or cold start issue, and by the way i only ran chevron premium in it. In the end i traded it in. I definitely do not recommend honda to anybody!!!
Love my car
I just love my new Honda. It is quiet and very roomy. The gas mileage is great.40 miles per gallon. A real plus with the price of gas!It has a nice style that looks expensive, but really was reasonable.I`ll enjoy it for many years to come. The salesman was very straightforward and didn`t pressure me.I had done my homework and had a good idea of what I wanted. I`d recommend the Honda Civic to anyone who likes a great car that performs well for a reasonable price.
Best in class
This is the sixth Honda (3rd Civic) we've owned, and they just keep getting better, cheaper to maintain and more reliable as time goes on. This one is fun to drive, handles very well and has fit/finish of a car twice as expensive.
I love this car!!
I just got my Honda Civic and i love it! my mother-in-law has the 2 dr version and she loves it she has had it since 2006 and has only had to change the battery on it! plus the gas mileage is amazing!
best mileage you can get in 4 door car
An awesome Honda that combines 4 door, multi person capability with totally awesome mpg with the 5 speed. Mine has over 80 K miles and I frequently get 80 + mpg on hiwy with cautious speeds (not exceed limit of 55). Special driving techniques also gives 60++ mpg suburban driving ! Easily goes over 800 miles per tankful on regular gas.
Great car
We traded in an 04 Grand Am for the Civic and love it. Its a much more fun ride than I expected, gets great mileage, and is comfortable.
It's OK
I bought this after my husband got his VP(aka cheap cheap package). I have a higher model but it is nothing great. Sunroof is noisy, rattles and squeaky all over. The fuel economy is awesome and for now this car will do but I prefer my Maxima anyday.
This car is great
I just picked up the car late on thursday night. I absolutely love it. The 1.7 v-tec has suprisingly good power. Gas mileage is great 34.56 mpg on first tank. Interior is very comfortable expecially with the side bolsters on the seats. Transmission shifts like butter.
Good Car
Has been a good car, good ride and handling. Good paint, fit and finish.
38/mpg in style amd comfort
I traded my 1998 civic lx sedan for this one. Comfort and economy is even more. I spent $45 at the pump and was able to travel 707 miles. That's 37.8 mpg, driving in LA (Glendale-Downey and all around). That's economy with 127 horse power. I was first attracted on the hybrid's 49/48 mpg with 98 horse power. However, I didn't want to sacrifice the 28 horse power a bit extra 8 mpg.
2005 honda civic vp
the best thing about my car is the gas mileage. i am happy with my new car.
14k paid, but worth much more
I purchased my 2nd Honda a month ago, and I am completley satisfied. Excellent build quality, refinement, A/C, CD player all for 14.5k. Steady 33 MPG in heavy city driving. ANYBODY who is on a budget (like me!) and can spend 14k or so on a new car, this is the only choice. With gas going to $2.00 a gallon, Honda has continued to refine an inexpensive yet stylish(for the price) car. Many of my co-workers want to know what kind of milage I get; I tell them 33-35mpg, they can't beleive it. Many of them spend more on gas a month than I do on my monthly payment.
Nice car for budget concerning people
The most impression to me is the gas milage which runs average around 38.Before i decided to buy this car,my wife and I did some research about civic and corolla.By comparing corner to corner I chose the civic. It's more style and fun to drive. Not like corolla,i never felt bumpy.
Good for the Cost, Reliability
I have now owned this car for close to three months and the thing that gets me is the gas mileage. Its got good functionality, nice looks--but the gas mileage is the part that sells it.
A Great Car
I actually purchased my car in July of 2001. Not much of the interior or exterior has changed. I love my car. It has held together very well. You can not tell by any means that it is 3 years old. It has great fuel mileage, very reliable, and excellent in comfort. Everyone always wants to borrow my car.
I Love This Car!
I looked at Corolla's, Scions, Mazda3. None of them offered the combination of sportiness, room, and gas mileage of the Civic Coupe. Yeah the Mazda is quicker, but the reliability and gas mileage of the Civic can't be beat. The Special Edition stereo sounds great. The sunroof switch and cruise control switch are oddly placed, but a small price to pay for the best overall package found in the Civic. Not only that, but I paid $1200.00 below the sticker price. It pays to shop around. The trunk is large for this size vehicle. Ride is quiet, road feedback is superb. Since I rarely have anyone riding in the back, I removed the rear headrests to improve visability. A fabulous car for the money.
Civic Hybrid CVT
I expected much less performance and was nicley surprised with its spunkiness. A joy to drive, quick steering and comes with all the nice stuff at no extra cost. It is a solid car that is nicely put together. When you close the door it sounds good. I like the sound system, the electric mirrors aand the way it doesn't sound when stopped at a red light. My other cars are sitting around gathering dust because this beauty gets me 600 miles on a tank of gas. Love it.
My Civic
It's been a month since my purchase and I can't be happier. I went into the dealership looking to get the EX but for an additional $250, I could get the SE; less than the cost of the 6 disc CD changer upgrade and the in dash system plays MP3s! The leather steering wheel is also a nice extra. It's the perfect commuter car with some extra oomph. There's good compromise between comfort, low emissions and performance.
Fun and Economical
Great handling, awesome gas mileage and best styling yet. I previously owned a 1995 civic 4 door and this time around I chose a 2 Door.
Blue Civic
I love it Fun to drive and is sporty
The Best and Most fun Car !!!!!
This is the best car!! It handles GREAT and is great on gas! The design is so sporty and I get compliments everywhere I go! My husband just bought a 2005 Accord fully loaded and still loves to drive my special edition civic. He thinks it handles even better than his! I love my car!!!! It also has a sterio that is chrome! No other honda has this radio! It's gorgeous!
This car is what every street tuner need
Civics are reliable and hold their value
Civid Hybrid: Excellent Commuter Car
Bought the Civic Hybrid for daily commute (150 mi/day). Very satisfied during first 6 weeks of ownership. Combined mileage (interstate and urban gridlock) is 48 mpg; highway mpg at 53. Very good low-end torque (I haven't stalled it yet); generally a quiet comfortable ride, but pretty noisey when spashing through pools of water. I highly recommend the Honda Civic Hybrid for long commutes.
HONDA
I love my car. I have bad experiences with cars in the past. For the price of a new Honda, you just can not get a better car.
Near perfection. Highly recommended!
First, let me say that I am very picky about cars and demand high quality on the purchases I make. I bought this 5 spd. Civic Hybrid about a month ago and so far it has lived up to my high expectations. I do mostly city driving and get between 50-56 MPG (make sure you inflate your tires to 35PSI to get the optimized gas mileage). The trip MPG on the dash actually under-estimates my miles per gallon by about 5 MPG. Compared to the Prius, the Civic exterior body design is more visually appealing. The quality of the seats /interior is good (the driver's seat is height- adjustable which is a plus). The manual transmission shifts extremely smoothly, much better than my prior Toyota Corolla.
New Honda Lover
I love my new Honda. My previous car, which was a convertible was totalled due to tire failure. I needed to get something that would be practical, extremely nice looking and economical. I had the interior upgraded to leather - and my car looks very smart!
civic si hatch
i have had my si for a couple years now and the car is still a blast to drive i havent had any mechanicle problems with the car except for a clutch replacement at 52000 the car was driven pretty hard and i think it would of lasted longer with more care there are alot of aftermarket parts to make this car more of a si my car is still fun because every time i have a little extra $$ i buy a part ihave aem cold air header/downpipe motor mount inserts tuff to put in but worth it the car feels more rigid/racecarish in the end i dont regret this car one bit
brand new 1st time owner
Just got this black little baby, and i might br a little early for a review but if the hype is true about owning a Honda i think i joined the happy Honda club. The car is fun to drive even with auto. nicely detailed inside and out. You must get black if you get the EX with the wheels. illuminated dash is cool! Nice solid ride and handling interior has a quality feel with the controls. Engine is quiet except at acceleration. bit pricey compared to competition but i guess you're paying for Honda quality. wanted to wait for all new 06 but needed a new car asap. This car sips gas like a fine brandy. Forgot how to pump gas. Shifter is the easiest and best designed i ever came across for an auto !!!
Lovely little hatch
Whatever the Civic Si lacks in, the originality of the car and the distinctive styling makes up for it. People can make fun of it by calling it a mini-mini van, but in reality, they want it so bad. The interior is unique, with awesome seats manufactured by Recaro (for those of you who didn't know) and the steering wheel manufactured by Momo. Some people may think that $19K is too much for the car, but you have to realize that Honda didn't use any cheap parts or even cheap plastic to build this car. Love the car, love the styling, love the orginality.
Great Small Car!
This is a fantastic car. Beautiful inside and outside: clean, simple, and effective. The control is nice and tight and the transmission, even for an automatic, is very smooth--both typical of Hondas. The EX model comes very well equipped with sunroof, 127 hp, alloy wheels, 6 speakers, CD player, ABS and a myriad of little things that make the entire car worthwhile. Gas mileage is great: 31 City, 37 Highway. I got the car perfectly content without any of the dealer installed options like foglights and interior trims. The foglights would be nice but the installation fees are absurdly high.
Happy Customer!
I have owned this vehicle for a few months now and I have had absolutely no problems. I purchased the vehicle with 53,000 miles and I now have around 59,000. I have been averaging 32-35 miles per gallon (all highway).
Great
Great to drive... isn't sporty, but the reliablity and fuel economy makes up for the weak acceleration. I love the front design... the car looks like it is smiling at me everytime I see it. I would recommend this car to anyone who do not like high maintains or costs to run it (20 dollars for a full tanks ~ 400 miles). The driving it very smooth, I like how the wheel is not too tight but tight enough to give the driver a feel for the road. The car is great for teenagers like me, who need to get places without the worry that the car will breakdown. I love the envy I get from people and since the cost is low, I think more people are able to afford this car. The side airbag is an added perk.....
