Used 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid 4dr Sedan (1.3L 4cyl gas/electric mild hybrid CVT) Consumer Reviews
Hybird reality
The Honda civic hybrid fule fact for my civic is city and highway combined 37mpg. I have driven the car less than 200 miles and probably very close to 50- 50 city vrs. highway miles. It takes a bit of getting use to the hybird technology as the car shuts down at most stops. The Civic is remarkably quiet. also it has a great standard packsage, A.C., cruse control, CD am fm sterio. Some folks may like the lighted dash information stystem that includes a tac, odomitor, battery status and other things. I find it a bit distracting with all the flashing and moving lights. It is a great car for those that have concerned about consumption and enviormental issues.
Honda Hassle
One thing that no one mentions about this car is that you cannot roll the back window down because you get this tunneling effect. By this I mean, the wind is going through the car and you feel like you are going through a tunnel, your ears seem stopped up, the noise is really bad. Now that I have taken it to the dealership, they tell me that if you roll down another window - it eases the noise. That is not true because I tried that already. The cup holder does not come out so it is a pain to wash. The car runs great and I love the savings on the gas - especially now that prices have gone up.

Mixed Blessing
HCH is peppy & responsive. CVT is much smoother than regular auto transm. Handles well on curves & highway. Brakes are right there. Actual mileage lower than expected (37-40 mpg, mixed suburban driving). Bumps on steering wheel (@10 & 2 o'clock), plus its thickness & wide ribbing, interfere with hand placement for small-to-average woman's hand. Even with seat cranked up, rear visibility is poor (I'm 5'-5"). Seat is uncomfortable on long trips. Passenger wiper's sweep into driver's visual field has effect of narrowing view & is disturbing; transm. stick's chrome plate reflects sun glare into driver's eyes- a driving hazard. Exterior finish scratches easily.
what a piece of junk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
after first month of driving car would not start almost ever time started. brough in to south shore honda insist nothing wrong with it gave me back car with dead battery. and had to give me a boost to get car started. wheel alignment off. took honda a year and a haft to relize car had a moter cycle battery. they stll did not fix alignment! i will never buy honda again. my car was purchased from dealer as a new car!
What is Honda's problem?
Can someone tell me why the Hybrid has very few options? The colors are limited along with things you can't get, like a sun roof and spoiler. And why is the antena in the middle of the roof toward the front? The normal rims on the hybrid look horrible.... Why couldn't they just put the technology in a normal civic with the same standards, and sence they didn't why is it more money then one with all those other options... This factor just ruins the hybrid part for me, I'd rather just stick with a normal civic and get all the cool extras.
