4 Dr LX Sedan
Bought this car three years ago and had no problems whatsoever with the car. I only go to the dealer every 5,000 miles for the usual maintenance stuff, very reliable compact car. Averages 29-31 mpg of city driving usually around 30-32 if I don't use my AC a lot. Excellent resale value, bought this car for $15,000 and if I trade it in, it is still $12,000 just $2,000 depreciation for 3 years - not bad! Try that on other vehicles and you will really be disappointed. Runs fast, got it more than 110 mph with 5 people on the car.
Never again!
This is my second Civic. I love my first one. This one is horrible. I had to have the fuel system replaced twice in the first 15,000 miles. The car does not handle as well and is unsteady around turns on the highway. I am commute over 100 miles round trip daily and dislike this vehicle most of the time. It is loud and the sluggish nothing like the one before this one. The only good part is the gas mileage which is in about high 30's in and out of the city. I will never buy Honda again as the company has been miserable to deal with and fixing stuff. My car is just one of many in the area that have had major problems with systems and gauges.

Not as good as they say!!!
Car has nice behaviour in hard breaking but i find it noisy at Hway speeds. I felt confortable but did not felt much feedback from road when cornering.
Third Civic
I really enjoy my third civic, bought the 2004 ex sedan w/ manual and love it. Not the fastest, sportiest, or nicest car on the streets, however it es everything I could ask for. Great gas mileage, interior space, build quality(minus the paint), and low cost to operate the vehicle. I could have bought a $30000.00 vehicle, but for vacations, backa dn forth to work and running around town with friends. I would rather have my money in my bank account than depreciating in my garage!!! Compound interest is the worlds best invention.
Not made in Japan save your money
After looking at cars for about one year we have now purchased a 2005 Civic EX. After a few days of ownership I noticed the paint overspray where the fog lights go on the front air dam. The gas milage is a joke from what the window and government say 31 city and 38 highway. Try about 31 and my 1997 Lincoln towncar gets 23 average? I really like the car but not worth the extra money. I wanted a Japan car not a Canada made car or I would have bought another UAW made car. The Quality is not there like the old days. We have five Honda ATV,s and Two off road motorcyles and they are built good. Brand name means nothing now days, I do like it still.
Spring for the EX it is worth it
So far so good, I just purchased my vehicle on the 25th of Sep 03. I have driven it loaded down from Illinois to Denver and will continue on to San Diego. Even though I had three people in the car and tons of clothing etc the civic performed admirably. The seats are extrememly comfortable on long rides.
saved a life
this car and a few angels saved my childs life. to see the car you cant imagine how she is standing, the crush zones in the front did not bend onto her legs,to make it short the new 2004 civic ex with side air bags was totaled but my child was not. thank you honda
Dope Ride
I love my new Civic ex . I love how it drives and its responce time is great too. The only thing that bothers me is it is a little loud when its running. I also wish Hinda would come out with its new bug shield and vent visors to match the color. I also wish the sun roof popped up and opened like the neon does.
2004 Civic LX 4 door
This is my 6th Honda and I have not been disappointed in any of them. I traded a CRV for the 2004 Civic and don't regret it. The ride and drive is great. The mileage looks great, can't seem to empty the tank. If you can do without the sun roof and alloy wheels this seems the best buy. Very solid and a huge amount of room compared to the previous version. Nice car.
Follow-up to "Spunky Little Car"
I mentioned my AC had no freon in my prior review, my car is now 3 months old and has visited the dealer one too many times. Turns out after 2 trips to service and a nasty letter to Customer Service, my car was kept at the dealers for an AC investigation (3 times). Turns out there was a leak. They say they fixed it, lets hope so. I would hate to associate "Lemon with Honda".
reliable
I find the honda civic is reliable, but the noise is terrible while driving, I don't get the gas mileage, the visualble is horrible. meaning that the beam between the back and front seat you can't see.
A/C problems
This car would be great for a climate that never reaches over 100 degrees! Anything over that the a/c is terrible. Everytime you accelerate no matter if you mash the throttle or have an egg between your foot this vehicle blows hot air at you, which translate to the fact that in stop and go traffic the car never even comes close to getting comfortable inside the vehicle. According to my selling dealership this is a normal condition and nothing can be done about it. My recomendation is not to purchase this vehicle at all untill they have a fix for thier "normal" problem. Also the dealership also told me that all of the honda vehicles do this so beware!!
Fun Spunky Car
The speedometer display is easy to read day or night. I like the spunky engine and smooth quiet ride. The gas mileage is great! In one week I drove over 200 miles with more than 1/4 tank of gas left. The drivers seat is adjustable enough for me to reach the pedals and look over the dash (I'm 5'). My 6'3" husband is able to drive this car comfortably. Adults fit in the back with plenty of knee room. The a/c, defroster, heat and audio controls are easy to reach and operate. The a/c cools the whole car. The defroster automatically turns off. A standard feature is cruise control. I strongly recommend this car for performance, comfort, size and quality.
The perfect car?
This is not a Porsche nor is it a Cadillac. But my Civic thinks it's both. For under $17K this is by far the best vehicle for your money. From smooth styling to great handling and power my civic covers all the bases. Honda reliability is second to none in this class and the gas milage is awesome especially in today's economy. I looked at all the cars in this class, the Jetta, Corrola, Sentra and Elantra and every time I found myself comparing them to the Civic EX. Do yourself a favor and give it a spin, you will not be disapointed.
Spunky Little Car!
Perfect commuter car, a great first month with my Civic EX, its sporty and stylish. Make sure that you test everything in your car before purchasing it. Mine had no freon for the AC. How could they miss that? Nevertheless, they were able to add it right away. My prior car was a Corolla so there was a bit of a learning curve with little things like the placement of the radio buttons and AC buttons, cup holders and such. Overall, get the EX with the extra horsepower and all the little extras...its worth it.
I hate this car
I am extremely disappointed in this car. We had our last Honda (1989 Prelude) for 15 years and it was nearly bulletproof. I had to replace the head gasket after 3 years on this Civic (at about 65,000 miles) and have the head machined very expensive repair. Ive spent more money fixing this car since I bought it than I have on an 11- year old Chrysler product with over 215,000 miles on it. The car lacks the power to get out of it's own way. I don't know if I just happened to get a lemon - or if there is a problem with this year model, but it's not an "automatic" choice for me to go buy another Honda.
Something So Small Yet Wonderful
My parents bought a 2004 Honda Civic for my sister..sure its just a plain basic civic but it doesnt perform that way. The car is great,I drove it a few times and its terrific. It takes off fast and stops smoothly. Its a perfect compact car for anyone who is into compact cars.

Pitbull of Compacts
I got my first Honda and drove home from the dealership in 4 inches of snow...Michigan weather. It was a test that showed me how the car handles. Great manuverability in changing lanes on slippery, wet roads, the ABS kicked in. Good stopping at lights and great acceleration and traction on turns. All the while my kids slept comfortably in the back seat. Performed admirably...I give it an A-1 and I've driven a lot of cars over the years.
Great Car
I have had this car 6 weeks and I am very pleased with it. The ride and handling are great and the performance is more than adequate for both city and highway driving. Overall the car has a very substantial feel to it. Honda did a good with the styling for 2004 and with the upgrades to the LX it seems the best buy unless you absolutely have to have all the bells and whistles. I would recommend this car very highly
Great Car
I love my Honda Civic. I have always been a fan of Hondas and with the Civic it can be both affordable and very classy. It handles very well and is such a nice looking vehicle.
It's Good to Be Back Home in a Honda!
I recently just pruchased a new 2004 Honda Civic DX model, and I am pleased as punch to be back again driving a Honda. It's a fun car to drive, good pick up and very roomy. I'll never go american made again!
Don't love the car
I have owned this car for 17 months. During that time, I have had to have a windshield seal reglued, the fuel sensor replaced, the cruise control unit replaced, the sunroof control unit replaced, and most recently, the gauges replaced. The gauges were replaced this week and the odometer now reads 100+ miles. Honda told me yesterday that they cannot reset it to the actual mileage--very annoying. I guess I'm supposed to live with this even though the car is under warranty. I'm not happy, and I still don't know yet if my low-fuel light problem has been fixed so that I actually can know when I need gas without tracking my mileage with the tripometer.
Lita's new civic
I own a 2003 Honda Civic DX, and I love it. It handles great and is so fun to drive. It has a great new design on the outside and the inside is comfortable. It is nice and quiet and is a pleasure to drive.
love it
Great car that balances everything you want in a car at this price perfectly.
Good Daily Driver
I have owned this car for a little over 2 years now. I bought it for getting to work and college, as well as cheap insurance. The Civic is pretty slow, and I usually have to rev into 4-5k RPM to make it to freeway speeds by the time I need to merge. Freeway passing is slow, unless you downshift to 4th. Gas mileage is good, but not the greatest, but one of the better ones at the price. I haven't had any major mechanical issues, just a broken power door lock actuator which was fixed under the extended warranty. Maintenance is a breeze. Interior breaks and scratches easily. Good view out the rear. It gets you from A to B, which is its intended purpose.
Excellent!! GET ONE!!
great car!! excellent review
BEST BUY I'VE MADE IN YEARS
WHAT MORE CAN I SAY, IT'S COMFORTABLE, GOOD LOOKING, POWERFUL & I'M GETTING A MINIMUM OF 40 MPG.
GREAT CAR GREAT PRICE
I researched for months before deciding on the Civic. It was a great choice, fun to drive, looks, good, handles great in the winter snow (we get a lot) I just love it
Third Ones a Charm
This is my third honda. First bought a 94 hatchback, traded it in for a 98 CRV. I kept the CRV for weekends and bought an 2004 LX for the everyday commute. We wanted a sedan for better gas milage and went with the LX since it has all of the features we were used to with the CRV LX. Has the same light ride as the CRV but hugs the road better. I was surprised at the 15 inch wheels! Makes it look sportier. The lines remind you of a 3-series BMW. I love the new Magnesium Metallic color. First tank got us 30 to the gallon. I'm glad they got rid of the the center lap belt. Internet sales helped us get it $500 below invoice.
Excellent
I love the way it drives....VERY dependable.....wish is was a bit more sleeker in design, but the 2006 design solves that problem :)
Honda Civic EX
Excellent Car .. Good Value for the Dollar ..
Awesome!
THis is a great car for the money. It has all the extras you need and the reliability to give you peace of mind, too. Our family of 4 fits nicely and enjoys the ride! THis is our 3rd Honda Civic. WE are SOLD!
Noisy Engine
This is my second Honda. Here's a couple of negative, yet pertinent, comments: 1) noisy engine while idling, which should not happen to a mint new car. 2) noisy power steering at 90 degree turn. 3) not enough power on a 1:8 slope, no passengers and loads. 4) headlight still on after locking door.
Tribute to Honda
This vehicle is handsome, reliable and I feel confident in the way it handles in a tremendous amount of traffic & a considerable distance traveled, daily.
Great Car
This is a realy great car. I needed to have something I could put some kids (big kids) into and this seems to be the answer. We occasionaly take a 275 mile trip to the Outer Banks and it performs well. Gas mileage isn't bad considering I have a lead foot. The whole family likes it.
2004 Honda Civic LX
Great vehicle! Worth every penny
Great but need to meet technology
I loved my Honda. The only design problems I had with my honda was you could not charge a cell phone and your XM radio at the same time with only one socket. Like most cars now I think Honda should step into the 21st century and at least have 2 sockets. Also, the cup holder got in the way when you were charging your cell phone or had your xm radio plugged in. So, the designers should think of people that drive. Also, I would not recommend a Civic for people over 5' 10". Not good on leg room!
Great Car for Normal People
Great car to drive around in. It is not a luxury car so there will obviously be plastic and road noise. Unlike other cars (ex. - Toyotas), it feels like you are driving a car on a road, not a friggin cloud designed for senior citizens. Mileage is great at 33 mixed, but a 5 speed auto would have been awesome. Reliability (in both hot of Mojave desert and cold of Midwest) is awesome with 80k miles with only fluids, brakes, and tires replaced at my convenience. Those of us past puberty will find the stereo good enough to pass drive time. VTEC gives good power as long as you are willing to go pedal to metal. Plan to keep to 150k
love civic
I love this car!
New owner & loving it.
I previously owned a 2001 Toyota Camry and found it was too much car for me and it did not have the pep and performance my former Honda Accord did. Gas consumption was 23 mi/gal around town and my new Civic is supposed to get 31 mpg. This is a big difference with the price of gas going up. I find that the visibility is much better than the Toyota with fewer blind spots that were very scarey in the other. No complaints on the Civic EX.
1st time Honda buyer
My family has always been a loyal american made car buying one. However I noticed all the problems we had with buicks, cadillacs, chevy's etc. Engines powerful by awful electronics and fuel econ. My wife's family had 3 generations of accords putting on average 150,000 on each with only minor problems. So I decided to get a civic mainly for work commute and to avoid the rath of my wife. Have had it only for one month but so far like it alot. Can't beat the gas mileage, ride, stereo, and room for the price.
my baby
great car very reliable awesome milage comfortable seats features are excellent
Nice Nice base Honda!!!
Hello, Well I stopped in and peaked at a 2004 honda civic dx sedan I saw on a local website, they had me test drive it suprised me a ton! then they gave me 2500 dollars for my 1996 grand am gt with 62k on it. so bam i got this little economical safe fuel efficient, car that i can customize lightly and cheaply!!!
why would you drive anything else?
Best car I have ever owned. Does everything I want it to. I sell ins and it is a joy to work out of. My car makes my job much easier.
Trip to Dullsville
My other half bought one of these, and while I have owned other Hondas too, I find newer Hondas to be terribly boring and uninspiring than they were 10 or 15 yrs ago. The Civic LX/auto engine is rather buzzy and tends to downshift a lot. Of course the MPG is great. Handling and steering feel are what I HATE about this car. The steering is not precise, and the suspension feels floaty to me, with lots of body lean. Feels like a 20 yr old Buick Century. Unimpressive braking too. If you want an appliance with the soul of a refrigerator on wheels, buy this. If you want a little more personality and spirited driving fun, shop elsewhere.
my civic
Great first car but also a good family car. Good gas mileage, with great reliability and resale value.
great car
I just got a 2004 honda civic it so cool and cute and great to drive. I have had other cars but honda by far the best!! Great work Honda
2004 Civic LX Sedan BEST CHOICE EVER
I am a soon-to-be college graduate that is serious about quality and style. I just traded in my 99 Nissan Altima for a 2004 Honda Civic LX sedan and I LOVE IT. I cannot stress what a good value this car is. The body style is very European and the inside will remind you of a pricer Volkswagen Jetta! I recommend this car to anyone that is serious about style and value!
i'm happy
This is a great great car, but a big adjustment from the 1995 Nissan Quest I had been driving. I just took it down to NC from MD and it performed very nicely. Only problem I have had is that I have been tabulating mileage and only got 26 mpg city at one point. I got 37 on a tank when i was driving completely on the highway the entire time. Not sure if honda is lying to me. Have to agree with a previous comment that this car does not have much power. My sister has a 94 accord and this drives just like it.
