Used 2003 Honda Civic Coupe Consumer Reviews
Great Car!
I just bought my Civic and I couldn't be happier! I love this car. It has so many great features at a very reasonable price, which was a big seller since I'm a college student. Plus, I got the 1.9% APR financing, so it is very affordable.
Civic HX 5 speed/2003
Very poor engine performance. Primarily in 4th and 5th gear get a degree of engine hesitation, stumble and at times surge. Difficult to do maintain 60-65 on highway in top gear because of the total lack of throttle response. Have to depress throttle 1/2 way to floor before I hear engine tone change and feel any acceleration. Am getting 37-39 mpg, well below rated 44mpg on hiway where most of my commute is. Would appreciate any response or comment on this issue

Very happy
This car looks great inside and out especially the lighted dash. It is very reliable and gets good gas mileage. My first tanks of gas have given me 36,32,29,35 and 36 mpg with the last two being mostly highway during the summer. The most important thing about this car is the peace of mind it gives me knowing Hondas reputation for quality. But, this car is not fun to drive or comfortable (although Im 6'2" and fit fine) and is definitely underpowered. The car is also really loud. I still recommend this car though.
I love this car!
Extremely well built car. Manual trans scoots around. So far I've had nothing go wrong or need to be fixed or even adjusted. I just put Michelin tires on it and it changed the ride dramatically for the better. If I had known this I would have done it when I bought the car. The OE tires were weak but didn't wear out quickly. Well, one issue is that the CD player can heat up on a hot day and cause a crackling on the audio output. To me it has been a minor issue that I've ignored. I've experienced this on other cars so.....What can you say about a car that has never had a single problem in over 4 years?
No maintenance!
I bought this car in '03 after my '01 civic was totalled. I've loved it dearly and I'll be passing it down to my baby sister even with 60K miles on it. I have NEVER had any work done to it. It's cute and sporty with the optional spoiler.
My hot Civic.
My Civic is one hot little ride. The engine is creamy smooth, 5 speed shifts the best of any economy car, Gas mileage is the best without it being a hybrid. Very comfortable seats. Great driving position. Nicely loaded and excellent build quality. Not the typical econo car cheap parts. This is my second Civic, the first was a '95 and it was very dependable and long running. You won't believe the excellent mileage. Quality, dependable, and long running.
As reliable as they come
Have owned my Civic for over 3 years. Never had a single problem with it. I was rear ended a couple times for minor damages. The rear bumper is sturdy and does its job well. Gas mileage is good averaging about 28 mpg. Car is extremely responsive to weight change, you will definitely feel a change in how the car handles with extra weight on-board. Sound system is slightly above average.
Smooth Ride
Having just bought my Civic, I'm still learning things about it. But in the 2 weeks I've had the car, here are my impressions. This car is so sporty looking. By getting rid of the panel most cars have, it makes the car appear sleaker. The instrument panel rocks. The brightness is astounding. It has zip. It accelerates nicely up hills and on freeway onramps. The interior cloth, still has that entry-level import look to it, but is tons better than in years' past. The 6 speaker CD stereo has great sound. The trunk holds plenty of cargo. A very comfortable back seat with, get this, a flat floor.
Fun Coupe
Some might think I stepped down from my box of a Jeep to a Honda Civic HX, I think I stepped into a reliable, sleek, just plain fun to drive car. I cannot agree with some who say it lacks power in the upper gears, I find it quite tenacious at high speeds on little-traveled highways in Montana. However, in the lower gears I'm not as impressed. With its slow acceleration from stop, left turns across lanes of traffic are sometimes hair-raising experiences. Quiet, dependable, long gaps between gas stops make this a great car, especially for those who are just breaking out of college and living on their own.
Trouble free huh?
I purchased the Civic a year ago and it now has 28,000 miles. It has had quite a few problems, which Hoindas supposedly don't ever have. There was a clicking noise that took 3 dealership visits for them to fix. There is also a noise the enging makes in second gear which the dealer has not fixed after 2 visits. Seats are rather uncomfortable and the ride is loud. Doubt I will buy another Honda again.
Dumb-Ass SUVs
had this car for less than a week and already appreciate the MPG. it's fun to drive, looks sporty and best of all it's a honda.
Love it
This thing is gets as good of gas mileage as the Toyota Hybred and at $5000 less. not to mention it has a better look to it. A great buy if you want the hybred but can't quite afford it.
misleading gas mileage...
I primarily bought this Civic for the great gas mileage. I expected to get at least 350-400 miles per tank and am only getting up to 300 miles per tank. Edmunds says this vehicle is capable of up to 501 miles per tank...and after purchasing the car I was very disappointed. I thought it must be the way I drive, since I use premium gas, but several people with the same exact vehicle have the same exact problem. Other than that though, It's a nice, dependable car, and I bought it at a great price $14,700 so I can't complain too much.
Radio Trouble
My daughter bought this car thinking honda was a great product. She bought it from Rick Case Honda.I advised the service manager the radio has static while driving (not all the time ) They said the radio is working according to factory spec's and I should just accept it. Honda america hung up on me when I tried to create a case #. And a manager W/ Rick Case was to call me 4 days ago. Beware of the lip service the Rick Case adds have because its not true. They have yet to fix or help me with my problem
GREAT ECONOMICAL CAR
I just bought this car. I'm not really sure how fast it is because I drive so slow since I have to wait til it breaks in. But the car has no problems, the interior looks great, and the engine is pretty dam loud.
Economical (but slow and noisy) Honda
Let's get one thing straight. I love Hondas. Not because I'm "on the bandwagon", but because I've owned five of them. Accords, Civics, and even a DOHC Del Sol. I have always been treated with the utmost respect by all of Honda's personnel, and the darn cars just refuse to break, no matter how hard I've pushed them (did I mention the 160+hp DOHC VTEC Del Sol?) My work commute suddenly grew to 35+mi. each way last Nov., so I had to trade the V-10 4X4 in on something, shall we say, more practical...and a whole lot more reliable.
Great Value
The car is a great value balancing performance with gas milage. I average 32-36 miles per gallon and have found the car to perform well even above 75 mph. The areas I found most disappointing were the acceleration and steering. I would have gladly traded a few miles per gallon for for pickup and tighter steering.
Great Value
Tested quite a few cars, Civic, Jetta, Accord, Focus. The civic seemed to be the best value for the money. Got rid of a Toyota Tundra (pricey, horrible gas mileage!!!). What fun it is to drive a car again! I had a 94 Civic at one point and should have never got rid of it. It feels good choosing a Honda again.
2003 Honda Civic EX Coupe
So far this car has been a pleasure to own/drive. I really like everything about it.
2003 Civic- The best Civic ever...
I just purchased my 2003 Civic, and I couldn't be happier. I traded in a 2002 Accord Coupe LX V6, and I must say, the interior quality, and design, is better on my Civic than the Accord was. I had a 2001 Civic, bought when the 7th gen design just came out, and this 2003 has so many improvements over the 2001, it almost feels like a different car. The handling, ride, and steering are light years ahead of my 2001, and better than my 2002 Accord was, as well. The only thing I'll miss from my Accord was the 200hp V6, but I think the Civic will make up for that in the handling and gas mileage department.
It is what it is...
Overall, I am pleased. I had owned a '99 Civic Ex coupe for 2.5 yrs and switched to a 6 cyl Jeep Wrangler. After only 4 months of owning the Jeep I found my favorite hangout to be the service dept, so I decided to trade. The civic is much as I had remembered: an affordable, sporty, fuel efficient auto with generic styling, especially the rear. The seats are comfortable, just needs some additional power to challenge the larger bolsters. Overall, it does the job and then some... reliable, peppy, and fun...you won't be let down.
Excellent Choice
Its been very reliable, and fun to drive. Its a lttle stiff as far as performance goes, but the fuel economy makes up for it big time!
the little car that could!
well, its no race car, not a luxury car either. but i still love driving it; because i know where ever i take it, it will get me home. im looking forward to many years of painless ownership. its the best in its class in my opinion.
One of a kind
A great car in every aspect very nice hot looking it stands out and the manual transmission i dirve makes it a great speed overall car
EXCELLENT VEHICLE
I would recommend this vehicle to young and old buyers who want to have fun when driving their vehicle. The two-door EX (especially the Blue Pearl color) with the standard alloys is the one to get because it just looks so good on the road and many people will envy you even though it is "just a Honda Civic". So yes I am satisfied with my decision.
I love my Civic!
I absolutly love my Civic! I have had it for about 4 months and I would buy another one in a heartbeat. You can't ask for a better car when it comes to gas mileage. In the time I have had mine I can't find any major faults in it. Hagerstown Honda is a wonderful dealership to deal with. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
GREAT LOOK!
The car is very fun to drive and the ride beats any past civic. If you have ever owned or driven a honda civic in the past you will appreciate the difference in handeling and suspension on the 2003.
Honda rating
Great mileage, great looks, reliable as all hell. Best car I have ever owned.
great car for thr times
had this car from day one bought it new back in 2003 and in the 16 years I've owned it had no problems other the changing oil every 3000 miles had to change brakes after 100,000 mile replace the tires a few times car ran great in the first 100,000 miles pick up was very good but after that you can see its starting to loose some of it's get up and go not to say it was bad i replace the serpentine belt on it was told to replace that now then have it brake on you then it cost alot cause if it brakes while driving i heard it would hurt the engine bad the only set back on this car is the driving in the snow i give it a 4 out of 10cars to low to grown all in all got my money out of it still driving it has 115,000 miles on it still drives great

Best car I have ever owned!
I have had this car for nearly 5 years. Financed it back in 2014 with the mileage of 60,000, and now its paid in full. Had one minor hiccup off of the lot with a tire, but since then I have put very little money into this car besides normal maintenance. Its a 2003 and only has about 100K miles. Love it and will never get another brand besides Honda! highly recommend if you are on the fence about getting one of these. They will last you a while if you keep them up.

GREAT CAR!
My civic is the best!
great car
This is a great car, i only put 150 miles on it so far, but its fun to drive but i think its really underpowered, i should have gotten the manual trans. but otherwise i love this car, its fun to drive, economical and the epa is awesome!!!
civic ex
Good looking coupe, very sporty. The ex is well equipped at a good price. The engine could use a bit more balls. The dealer open road sucks, my trunk lock did not work correctly and it got dammaged by me fron slamming it shut. They said the car was broken into which did not happen and i paid $500 to get it fixed. I will buy another Honda but not from them.
Honda Civic vs Toyota Corolla
My actual test drive of the Honda Civic: The ride was loud, the acceleration was great past 50. The car hesitates at start up and pull off. The brakes seemed a little too soft (I actually was nervous). The styling looks almost good but it doesn't look so good that you know it automatically when you step to the car. The creme interior is just ugly. The interior looks cheap but the steering wheel is better than the Honda Accord. The sunroof doesn't add anything to the car. Based upon my test drive, I would definitely choose the Honda Civic over the Toyota Corolla
perfect
I like the vehicle, it has done very well since I have pucrhased it. I will recommend to my friends to buy one
Amazed!!!!!!
I had looked into many other cars in this category, and the Civic EX was by far the most impressive, after learning about the almost non-existant depreciation rate, it seemed like a no brain-er. Love the new dash!
