Used 1994 Honda Civic del Sol Coupe Consumer Reviews
I love my Del Sol, I'll never sell it!
It's been almost 15 years since I purchased my '94 samba green si and I've racked up 209,000 miles. Three cross country drives from TN to CA, countless drives between MI to FL and it has been my only vehicle for commuting. I've followed Honda's recommendations for service and have never had any major issues. Nowadays I'm living in Ohio and admit that it doesn't handle especially well in snow over 6 inches, but the front wheel drive helps. The paint held up great and it looks pretty shiny and new still. It's a pleasure to drive on curvy roads and I really enjoy the smiles the little kids give me. It's a great conversation piece.
good, cute, reliable little baby car
At its first sight on our city road, i've said to my self, someday i wanna own this car cause i was then new here in the country and still coping with the environment. once i got employed i immediately searched and bought this car. and no regret, i love it. almost maintenance free if not low cost to maintain. i love the gas mileage consumption. i love the style, the practicality to use, and plan to keep it for so long till it becomes rare and antique/vintage or becomes collector's item. so for those out there who owns one, try to keep and maintain it and you'll be delighted.
What a feeling!
I went on this site to toy with the idea of selling my delSol. I bought "Kiwi" (Samba Green) over 10 years ago. Best car ever -- FUN! I've babied it a bit, and still shines like new. The green color is so cool...it's become my "trademark". With only 80K miles, and seeing the reviews of 180K+ and still going strong, I think I have changed my mind about selling -- we have a long relationship ahead. :-)
if u find 1 get it
I have had my del sol s standard no power sterering 4 about 4 weeks and i love it. I have spend about $500 by giving it a fuel system cleaning and buying clips to fix the trunk leak. Other than that i have spend nothing unnecessary.
Fun in the sun
Awesome, fun little car. Lots of attention with the top off, no penalty in the winter for having a fabric roof. Extremely manuverable; reliable - provided you do regular maintanance. Quick for the limited amount of power; you can get insane gas mileage if you behave yourself - with the 1.5 motor I get about 36 city / 42 highway. On a 500 mile trip at a constant 70, I managed to get 52 mpg - but that was without any real traffic on a nice day. Those who complain about their roof leaking must have been in an accident, or the previous owner had.
The Couriers Who Know Me
Dallas and Fort Worth freeways will never be the same when i trade my 94 del sol into the dealer for a new 4- door civic (time will tell)8 months of 90 mph 9-5 M-F set my record straight, and 80,000 miles later it is at 150,000. The only dissapointment were the exit ramps off of freeways. The short wheelbase made handling at a maintained speed uncomfortable. Fuel economy was a consistent 39 Hwy/ 37 with the a/c on. Oil, antifreeze, plugs...Nothing was a problem. Saturday afternoon with the hardtop off is too cool for the average man or woman to own.
no trouble
This is really a fun car to have, it's great on gas and looks too. Be careful of leaking gaskets on the removable roof though.
you should buy a Del Sol
I bought this car as a fuel saver. It was my first car, I could trust it to get me anywhere safely. I have owned it for over 10 years and it still runs great. My only concern is the size. No one can see it. We get tons of compliments on it.
Reliable but wimpy.
It's light, corners well for such an imbalanced weight distribution, and is otherwise a fabulous piece of machinery. The paint does chip easily, especially evident in the hood and front fenders. The rubber seals around the doors and roof seem to slowly start dissolving at about 4 years of age, but no leaking yet. The speakers are adequate, but the included stereo is the first thing to replace though. A name-brand under-200 dollar CD/radio has been a great improvement. Very impressive reliability record. A more stylish commuter car than the CRX or *ick* Geo, and more efficient than taking the family car.
i love my car
this car is awsome. its way to fun to drive. you can make it much faster by doing very simple things like addin a kamen filter or some other hight performence filter to it. faster than most hondas, corners like a champ, 0 - 60 in 7.30 easly.
Honda's best sportster
Successor to the CRX, precursor of the S2000, Honda hit it just right with the Del Sol. The Si model is fast (7.3 0-60 easily), easily modded for the tuner crowd, has incredible suspension and accompanying handling, and looks fantastic from every angle. The car is easy to work on, rarely needs repairs, and is a real driver's car with the 5-speed manual transmission.
Excellent and fun
I;ve owned 2 del sols now and i dont plan on getting rid of mine till it falls apart completely. This car handles excellent very roomy inside for a 2 seated car. Targa comes off for a fun drive in the summer. All in all and excellent car.
Keeper
I just bought this car and i'm in love with it. It handles wonderfully on the turns and has plenty of power. if you have a chance to buy one do it!
215,000 Miles Strong
I bought my Del Sol SI and drove it about 30,000 miles the first year. It's just so much fun, top on or off. It really loves the higher RPMs. For the performance it gives, the low emissions and high gas mileage (32mpg) are fantastic. It's been extremely dependable, and to keep it that way I feed it good quality regular gasoline and keep up on service. While it is a little car, it's got a huge trunk. I've taken it camping several times on back country & mountain trips. It's the perfect commuter car (in lieu of a hybrid). A little secret that it took me 8 years to discover is that many carwashes will give a discount on washes and waxes due to the car's small size.
Fun while it lasted
I've had 2 Del Sols so far. This was my second one after the first was in a flood. This car did not even have 100k on it when we had to replace the headgasket, then it overheated again. It was the radiator, $1500 in repairs. Now this car is totalled too because my boyfriend decided to run it into a concrete wall on the highway. I miss the ride, the functionality of the top, the wind in my hair, the gas mileage. But all the Del Sols I get are ripped away from me! Why oh why?
Heartbroken
I bought a 1994 blue Del Sol and it was my dream car. Drove it from Seattle to Las Vegas where it was stolen. I have been heartbroken ever sense. It’s been years and I still miss it.

great car
This is an awsome car. I have the S model... it's a little slower than I'd like, but that will be solved with a b18c swap. Other than that, this car is perfect.
Great Car
This car is very reliable and so very fun to drive.
great fun car
great fun car for price
Peppy Little Car
With 143,000 miles the SOHC Vtec engine still runs like new, typical of Honda quality. It's fast stock but there are plenty of aftermarket bolt ons to increase the horsepower drastically. Though I've made no real changes to the exterior styling, it still turns heads. Since I've had it there have only been a few problems. I just replaced the master cylinder, roof leaks if not lined up perfectly, and the dash rattles. Overall it's a fun, inexpensive car with a huge trunk and very comfortable on road trips...seems the more I open it up on the expressway, the more it wants to go.
My Heart and Sol
This is only my second car but I wouldnt trade it for anything. I love everything about it. If feels like my own little race car. This is a car I have a hard time keeping my foot out of. Mine is standard. The shifting is so smoothe. And I love the fact there is no power steering. It is such a small car, I think it helps with the handling. I also love that it isnt high maintanence. Keep the oil changed and she is good to go.
It's actually a 93...
Best car I've ever owned, I love it to death. The removable top is executed perfectly. Suprising performance from the D16Z6, if anybody's got an old B16 laying around, I'll take it off your hands in no time. Only problem is I think it died today.. Think I blew a piston or something.... :( :( :(
lovin the sol
This is a fun car that has a lot to offer. It is small, but i still manage to fit all of my junk in it. I have had many compliments on it and many stares because it is so darn green. I mean, you can see me from a mile away. The best part though is hearing people guess how old it is. It is a 94, but no one knows unless i tell them!
my convertible!
After a lot of hemming and hawing, finally made the move with the del sol. It's a lot more fun than I thought it would be. It handles better and is quicker than I planned on. At 95k it still gets 30+ city and high thirties highway. And having a convertible....love it!!
fun lil car
i bought my del sol in april of this year with 181k miles on it and now it has 186k miles, it still runs like it's new. i'm getting about 18 mpg in the city, but after all it does have 186k miles on it and i do drive fast in it. del sols are rare in hawaii so i'm glad i don't see a lot of them around.
Gr8 Little Car
I have had this wonderful car for about three years and have never had any reason for repair/work. I am a 59 yr old single woman who loves this little beauty, but recently finding it difficlut to "get in and out" comfortably !! Perhaps it is time to get something more for comfort!!
Honda del Sol rocks
If I had a dime for every person that offered to buy my car, I could buy another del Sol. I don't plan to get rid of this car ever!
A passion for Honda
I bought this car for my significant other but within the first year I drove it every day. The car gets outstanding gas milage and makes the comute to work everyday an adventure. Did I mention it's fun to drive? I am 40 years old and I find myself driving a little faster (a lot faster?) on a cloverleaf on ramp or a twisty back road. I have had to put tires on it once and I replaced the timing belt as maintenence but NOTHING has broken or needed more than normal maintenence in 4 years.
