Decent, but rotors keep warping!
I bought this car because I wanted reliability, and while the engine is reliable the brake rotors keep warping, casuing a strong vibration when stopping. Also honda sent me a notice after 10k miles that they had determined some of their cars had problems with the transmission, and that they were extending the warrenty to 100k. I guess that is pretty decent, except if I thought the honda would only go 100k, I would have sooner bought a cheaper and bigger/more powerful american car... I would think twice before buying another honda...
Great Honda Except The Transmission
I purchased Accord LX 4dr V6 brand new back in Nov '00 as a '01 model. The v6 engine is so smooth you won't even notice unless you press the gas pedal hard to the floor, then the muffler resonates. Available supercharger upgrades by Comptech makes the car even more fun. I am putting a lil' over 75,000 Mi by now (Sept '06). Thus far no problem with the car except the transmission kinda hunting when I press the pedal hard to the floor.I am planning to keep the car for another 5 yrs since I love it plus all the memories I've had with the car so I will add comptech supercharger to upgrade the power. Probably gotta check the transmission too. Maybe need an overhaul. I am getting 21-24mpg combined.

Very Solid Vehicle
I love my Accord. I have a big V-8 truck and this is a nice change from it. It has 130,000 mile on it and it starts, runs, performs like it has 50,000 miles on it. The only complaint that I have is a bit of a strange shifting, driver window glass seems loose, and a slightly squeaky driver's seat. Otherwise excellent! I would buy another one.
This is My Dream Car
Even though I haven't had it long, I have enjoyed it very much. I love the 6 disc CD changer and sunroof. The keyless entry comes in handy.
Creme de la creme
This Honda was the best car for the money when I bought it and it still the best car 2 years, 30k miles later. Anyone complaining about a Honda lemon must be sniffing something or abuses their car. I've owned another Accord, a Jeep Wrangler, a Pontiac Crapfest, a Camry and a couple of Nissans -- none compare to the quality of this car.
a superb automobile
This car has performed flawlessly for all 67,000 miles. The only maintenance I have performed on it is factory suggested oil changes, tune ups, and a brake job. And at 67,000 miles this car has the ride of a new car!
Best Ever
I bought this car to get better gas mileage, I traded in my Jeep Grand Cherokee. This is my first car and I am impressed. It had everything I wanted at a really good price. I would reccomend this car to anyone.
Good except the transmission
The Accord is a fun to drive practical car. The transmission was always a little jumpy, but the longer we have had the car, the more severe the shifts to second (especially downshifting) have become. When the car is cold it is downright scary. I have had the car in to check out the transmission twice and the dealer says that that is normal for a Honda. I am considering a Acura next, but my reservation is the transmission. Love the cars, but Honda should really do something about the transmission. Recall???
Solid Vehicle
We have driven this vehicle for two years now with no problems. We follow the scheduled maintainence program with our dealership and have not found a complaint with them either. The front passanger side shock/strut was defective after 15000 miles which the dealership found during a routine maintainence appt. and fixed the problem under warranty. The dealership provides us with a rental vehicle at their cost during all maitainence appointments. We will definitely buy another Honda and most likely form the same dealership.
Great car
Purchased the EX V6 with dual front and side airbags, ABS and traction control because we wanted a safe car for our teenage drivers. Car runs exceptionally well - nearly as smooth as my 5 series BMW. Good mileage around town and on the road. Strong A/C (important since we live in FL).
2001 Honda Accord VP
Has provided superior performance from day one. No problems whatsoever. Minimal maintenance required in all areas. Original tires lasted 60m - brakes 50,000. Still has original muffler at 107,000 miles.
Ed's Review of 01 Accord
Best car I have ever owned. It has been flawless. I have had regular services performed as recommended and had the brakes serviced at ~60,000 miles.
Study, reliable car
This is a sturdy, reliable car. Handles well and very zippy. It makes up in reliability and durability what it lacks in excitement. No mechanical or body problems, decent mileage (though I expected better than 28 mpg but my lead foot may have something to do with that). I fully expect it will go another 300,000 miles or so, although another driver will get that experience since I'll be trading it off soon. No fault of the car - it's just time for me to move on to something else. My overall experience with this car has been great - nothing bad to say.
Squeaks and Rattles - My Last Honda
After owning 5 Hondas, I never thought I would have to take one in for repairs at 40k miles... but my 2001 Accord just proved me wrong! The air vent fan has already gone, just after it came out from warranty (figures). Sure, the Accord drives nice and the engine is very quiet, but the squeaks and rattles from the interior make up for that. From the dash board to the glove box, new rattles emerge every day, testing my patience and driving me nuts! Also, some of the exterior trim around the dash board is coming off. Sometimes it feels like I am driving an American car. Honda seems to be in a quality rut and they just lost another customer because of it.
2001 Accord
8 years of well balanced performance. Great drivability, great reliability, low cost maintenance (only regularly scheduled), excellent comfort & safety features. Just replaced tires, brakes & 1 headlight + 1 tailight bulbs.
Transmission problem
Initially I was very satisfied with the vehicle. The car had good acceleration for a 4 cylinder. The auto is comfortable in city or highway driving. The brake pads needed replacing prematurely. The factory Michelin tire provide good traction but wear prematurely. The transmission also failed and required $2500 to repair at 140000 miles. The transmission had shifting difficulties before this. If the transmission had not failed I would have rated this car much higher.
A Nice Reliable Car
I just took over my mom's Accord. Its a pretty nice car. The seats are reasonably comfortable and its got a decent sound system and good gas mileage. I feel very safe in this car, and I use it as my daily driver and commute car. Its pretty fun to drive, but I'm coming from driving a mini- van, so I don't suppose my vote means much in that area.
Impressive
The best mechanic I've ever known once told me that if I never wanted to see him again to buy a Honda. I am impressed with the interior room and comfort offered in this vehicle. It has become the car of choice for a night on the town with my husband or a long road trip to visit friends and relatives. It's simple the nicest car I've ever owned.
Accord Sedan LX-V6
I have own this Accord for almost 3 years. Nothing went wrong only regular oil change. Just like other Accords with strong build quality and reliability (I owned 94 Accord). In my opinion, this generation V6 accord has unresponsive transmission. This may be the trade off to its mpg. However, it still make 1 of the fastest acceleration in 3.0L V6 engine class. What can I say ?
This is a REAL Car!
I bought this 2001 car new. For me it was a move up from a smaller Nissan, and I had been considering a Civic or a Corolla. A friend with me remembers my saying when I started out the lot, "THIS is a REAL car!" and she knew in 20 feet that I would buy it. Now, 20 months and 20K miles later, I feel I "know" the car and am as delighted as I was when new -- of course, it is still the same, so it might as well be new. No service work (besides oil change) has been necessary.
Love my Honda!!
After holding off from buying a Honda b/c of the price...We are so sorry we finally did. I doubt we will ever drive anything else...unless it is a mini-van. Wish we had gone the extra mile for the V-6. The 4 cylinder is quite "peppy" though.
Lots of problems!
After 9 months and 17K miles the transmission went. 5 months later brought it back with a squeek in the front end. Didn't find a problem, just lubricated some bushings. In Jan '03 the power steering started squeeling, took it in and the power steering rack was leaking and the whole thing needed replaced. Only had 42K miles on the car. Luckily Honda took care of the problem, or it would have cost $1250 to have it replaced. Took it back yesterday with another squeek in the front, and they said that it is the struts that are noisey. They aren't leaking, just noisey. Cost to replace them $450.
Look at a Toyota
I just purchased a 2001 Honda Accord EX with 64,000 miles on it. I have a 2002 Acura TL Type S and love it but wanted a car to use to travel to work in and save miles on my Acura. Well I knew that Honda Motors were having problems with transmissons but I went ahead and purchased the Accord because I thought it was a sound car. Boy was I ever wrong its now in the shop having a new tranny put in it. Go buy I toyota.
Nice and well equipped
My wife bought certified used Honda Accord with leather package. Nice and comfortable ride and great for computing. 4 Cyl gives great mileage, and decent hp, but not fun with 5 people in the car. I liked the over all performance of the car. Not to mention great quality engineering and very well laid interior.
Too noisy
Road noise on coarse pavement at highway speeds is deafening, making conversation or radio-listening an unpleasant chore. Engine noise is pronounced during moderate-to-hard acceleration, and the motor does not sing a sweet song. Intermittent rattles and squeaks are annoying. The car is dead-solid reliable, but I won't buy another one.
Needs More Horsepower!
Get the VTEC engine or a V6.
What we wanted
Absolutely love this vehicle, and coming from a bigger Explorer that had numerous maintenance problems, we find the Accord adequate for our needs. Two years and 20k later we are not dissapointed with this vehicle and we will buy another one without hesitation. Oil changes and tire rotations is all we have needed to do.
Transmission/engine performance
I've been driving my Accord for 3 weeks now and have been generally pleased with its performance. However, I have two issues: 1) the transmission shifting is rough in the morning when the temperature is under 30 degrees. Once warmed up the transmission performs smoothly 2) the engine emits a strange 'refrigerator like sound when the fridge starts up'. The Honda only makes this sound when the gas pedal is depressed thereby loading the engine. Back off the gas pedal and the sound goes away. I tried hi-test gas thinking the engine had 'engine knock' but it didn't make any difference.
Love the Car
I just bought a used Honda Accord EX. The car was flawless when bought, even though it had some high miles, other than that it still driving very strong. I had another Accord previously,1997 loved it but the car was totaled due to a stupid driver, but safe! That is why I saw one at the dealership, I had the technicians look it over, it was excellently maintained. Hope to get another 2-3 yrs usage out of it. Great ride for awesome price, and the dealership took car of me well at Infiniti of Charlotte! Ask for mo he will take care of all your car buying needs!
UGH u DAMN TRANS
I bought a 2001 Accord and noticed some slipping within the first week from the Trans. Brought it back and they replaced it. Start driving down the road and realize the Shifting in the car is worse than it was b4. Brought it back and now they are fixing it again. Honestly after reading all the reviews about how this car has major transmission problems, I may just return the car. Something in my gut tells me to return it now b4 the 30 days is up and then to get screwed.
Served its purpose, but had a shitty ride
I bought this car off my brother back in 2016 with 193k. The car has seen better days as there is a problem with the bottom of the car as it makes a noise whenever I go at a certain speed. I think its the previous owner before my brother used this car to death.

Like a new car!
Drives smoothly. Immaculate shape!
181k Miles and Counting!
It is a great car! I need an upgrade since I Have 2 kids. I Have a coupe so it is inconvenient to get in and out of. But I love it! Fixing to sell it. I bought it in Dec 2000. No problems yet!
Transmission problems
This is my third Honda - the others were reliable and I kept them serviced so they would last and they did. Except this one. The transmission is bad and needs to be replaced. The dealer won't replace it under the extended warranty of 7 years and 9 months (I don't drive a lot) but I'm still under the 109,000 mile warranty - it's whichever occurs first. I always trusted Honda's reputation for being a car that lasted a long time without major repairs until very high miles. This is the last Honda I'll ever buy. In my opinion Honda is slipping in quality.
Watch out for the transmission!!
I have only had my Honda 1.5 years and I need a transmission already. The dealership said there was a glitch in this particular year of Honda Accords. I never got anything in the mail telling me that. Thank goodness I still have 2,000 miles left on my warranty. New transmission shipped in from Japan-$4,500, 2 or 3 days of a rental car and labor? Hmmm, sounds a little expensive, even for a Honda!!
Not what I expected!
Bought new as a "demo" model. Vehicle was great for about 9 months. Then the fan switch quit working on the lower settings. That was replaced under warranty. THEN, a "transmission" recall. The transmission still doesn't work right. When the vehicle is setting flat and you put it into D4, the vehicle hesitates to engage for about 3-5 seconds. Took it back to the "local dealer PLOHAL HONDA" and they insist nothing is wrong. Now, the blower fan quit working "again".Finally this summer the air conditioner emits warm air. The local maintenance person put his hand up the the vent and said, "well it feels ok to me". I anticipated better testing!
I expected better from Honda
It has been fine, until I made my last payment, I have had to have the motor mounts replaced (over $500!). Now some console lights go on and off and my fuel light doesn't work anymore and the dealer said they would have to pull everything apart and charge me to find out why it doesn't work.
Problems!
Have had a lot of problems with this vehicle. Hondas are great cars but have had many problems with this one. With only 33,000 miles we have had loud noise problems that took 3 attempts to fix. In addition the transmission has been replaced and the altinator.
Thanks for nothing
I was looking for a reliable car for commuting purposes that I could put a decent amount of miles on without having to invest a big chunk of change into some major repairs a few years down the road. I decided to go with supposed "head of the" class when it comes to reliability. Sure enough, less than 4 years and 130K into into my transmission falls apart and they want me to stick another $5000 into a replacement. The jerks tried to blame me because I only changed the fluid once a year at every 40,000 miles, when the truth is the failure was caused by a terrible design that they openly admitted to by extending the warranty to 100K miles. OWN UP TO YOUR MISTAKES HONDA!!
SAFE MY LIFE...SEVEN TIMES
I used to own a 2001 Naples Gold EX Honda Accord. I had it for nine years and had only 39,000 miles. Unfortunately, I was involved in seven cars accidents with this car. It survived six accidents. It was totaled approximately a month ago, alas, the seventh car accident. Fortunately, I was able to walk away from all those accidents in one piece. I never had any problems with this car (except the accidents). This was a great car and I got an outstanding deal on it. However, no more Hondas for me.
A new Honda Fan is born!
I must say that I was rather skeptical since I had never owned one before. I Previously had a Dodge Intrepid with the 3.5L V6 and thought that car was good. But it did have a few squeaks and rattles. This Accord has no noise, its still quiet and the leather is great. I drive a lot and the only thing I would ask Honda is to do something about the gas mileage. My Intrepid could go 455 miles on one tank of gas, the Accord only makes it to 325 and that's with the SULEV 4 banger. I love the car and look forward to my next new Honda... the Pilot.
