Accord- major transmission problems
I have always purchased Hondas and had good experiences. However, after replacing two transmissions at 39k miles, I am very disappointed. Honda is covering the cost but it is a major hassle.
loving my honda accord
I owned a Civic before and this Accord is much better car. The handling and acceleration is very good. The value of the car is excellent. I would recommend this car to anyone who wants a very reliable car.

Hand-Me-Down Car
My dad bought this car brand new in January 2001, and has had it for a little more than 9 and 1/2 years. Now, it's been handed down to me as my dad has gotten a new 2010 Accord. I've driven the car many times before my dad gave it to me. It's not a bad car. The ride is good and comfortable. The power is sufficient. The exterior style is a little boring, but I can deal. After 9 years in the family, it runs fine and I'll most likely keep it for another year or so before buying a new car for myself. As a hand-me-down car, it's good!
great car
I've had this car for more than 2 years now and have not had a single problem with it. What it lacks in luxury it more than makes up for in reliability and build quality. My family and I are able to turn the key and not worry wether were going 10 blocks to the store or 1,000 miles on a road trip. The peace of mind we have with this car is extraordinary. The maintenence on the car has been outright simple also. The honda dealership has an easy to understand schedule with reasonable prices.
Solid Car
I have had many vehicles. American, German and Japanese. My American built Honda is the most reliable car I have ever had. Not in the shop one in almost 3 years. Except for new tires, after 45,000 miles.
I Love My Honda
I Love My Honda. I only wish I could have owned this car sooner. I get 29 mpg hwy. faithfully. The only work I've had done is regular oil changes. I have the ex model totally loaded and I love the luxury. The only bad choise I made was the low profile wheels and tires. I've decided they are for people that have time to drive 5 mph over every dip, railroad track and bump. I have already replaced two tires with side wall bumps. Other than that(and I chose the big rims and tires) I wouldn't trade it for the world. ( Thank God the PT crusier was too over priced when I need a new car)
Accord Advocate
Purchased in 5/04 with only 16K miles. Have put on 17K in 8 months. Had to replace drivers window regulator, but other than that no issues. Very dependable, peppy, fun to drive. Looking for another car now for my daughter and Accords are at the top of the list.
Good Car
We have a 5 speed manual Accord that has been fun to drive. It is bit of a dog in first gear when the A/C is engaged, otherwise plenty of power with the 4cylinder - 5speed combo. The AC the second year does not cool as expected. Paint chips easily on the front plastic bumper.
Bad transmission
I have had the Honda Accord 3.0 L V6 sedan for 9 years and I drive it only to work with a mileage of 90,000. The transmission failed but otherwise it looks like brand new with regular maintenance. Fixing the transmission costs $4,100 at the dealer's and after 7 years is no longer covered by warranty. I though that I bought a reliable car that will drive up to 150,000 miles but not so! I will never ever buy Honda again.
Updated review after my first year
I have had this Accord for a little over a year, got it with 95k and today 07/14/2010 it has 111,895 miles. It needed a lot of maintenance to get it to the condition i have it at right now. I have replaced the timing belt/water pump, tires, battery, transmission fluid, front and rear brakes, spark plugs, and last week my rear main seal failed and it leaked about half a quart of oil in 2 weeks. It was an unexpected, not to mention early failure so if anyone else had that same problem let me know cause it was an expensive repair.I am happy that my automatic transmission is fine and overall, i am quite please with the car and plan to keep him for a while.
Quality car at a reasonable price
My honda has 35000 miles. So far so good but then thats exactly what I expected from a Honda this is my 4th Honda and am quite satisfied. A quality car at a very affordable price without the frills. I am 6ft 3 in and fit quite comfortably in it. Runs smooth and I just love it, Thanx honda
I love my Honda Accord!!
I have had this car for almost a year now, and I absolutely love it. Not only is it a beautiful car (dark blue with gray interior), but it drives very well and is very dependable! My dad bought it as a graduation present for me to take to college and use for the next 5 or 6 years, and I can see myself driving it and still loving it for that time at least! I highly recommend Honda Accords.
Solid vehicle
Car has been trouble free. Only normal maintenance required. I always find that if you treat a vehicle (Honda, anyway) well it will last a long time. Just took a 5000 mile trip and averaged 32 mpg on the highway. Generally get about 22 in the city. We have never had a repair and the car has never failed. While I would like a new car, I have found very few that get the mileage I have experienced. I think I'll just stick with my EX.
Accord'01
Great Car. This is an ideal full size car in the market with balanced performance, mileage and style.
honda
grossly inadequate power in all ranges. transmission searches for gears constantly. front bumper paint coming off in sheets
Perfect Appliance
This initally was a spare car for us. It was a lease deal at $159 / mo! Not as "fun" to drive as the wife's 98 ex v- 6, but it is a heck of a family car deal!
Personal Review
This isn't my first Honda. I had a few other accords along the years as well. The car is ok for good fuel economy. I think because there is money spent the resale value/trade in value should be a little higher. I have never had any major problems with any of my accords except the motor mount and the "boots". I however will not be buying another accord again just because they all seem to stay the same. I have a V6 and still drives like the first 4 cylinder I bought back in 93. I do like them but changes need to be made... I have had a 93,95,96,98,2000 and a 2001. So, enough for me.
Make your own Honda
I turned a plain car into a car that is eye catching and fun to drive. The price I paid was below dealer invoice, because I shopped around. I used the money I saved to make it look sportier. No problems whatsoever in te two years I have had it. Tinted windows a must, euro tail lights, kept same tires added aluminum wheels, a honda bra for front end, xenon fusion blue bulbs in headlamps, neons on hood, racing seat covers, blue interior lights, and stainless steel exhaust adds horsepower and better acceleration.
I just run and run
Transmission misbehaved at 99.8K miles, warranty covered those models up to 100K miles ! The dealer replaced it for free. They replaced also the air bag for free. Noisy, stiff, it is a torture chamber. Both rear seat panels fell off. That is all. After 132K miles, the car still runs fine. That is what we expect from a car. To go from A to B. US market Honda are hard to repair in Canada. They are not even listed on their computer system. Relatively stable under slippery condition. Pedals too sensitive. It is a Canbox on 4 wheels. But a good Canbox.
This Accord is not a good vehicle
This Accord has a bad engine because it is made in the usa and not in japan. The seat belt connecting compartment broke, terrible safety feature in the car. Car is too expensive.
You won't be sorry
I needed a vehicle to offset our Suburban's enormous thirst for fuel but one that would also work for carrying around the kids and fill in on cross country trips. I also didn't want to pay a premium new or used car price. In enters the perfect vehicle for the chore. My only problem has been not bypassing my exits as I am really enjoying its comforts and convenience. Thanks Honda.
Great Car!
I bought this car for the side air bags (worth an extra star in crash tests), the 6 disc, and the manual transmission. I previously owned a '94 Accord that was absolutely flawless. This car is a little more Americanized in terms of driveability. The clutch is less precise. The brakes don't last nearly as long (58k versus 100k in my old car). The new brakes are already grumbling in the rear. The gas mileage is a little less than I expected. It has a few squeaks, but the great stereo can easily tune them out. This car has been very reliable and I already have 70,000mi on it. I know that I can get in the car and it will always start.
I love my Honda!
I absolutely love my Honda Accord. I used to own a Pontiac Grand Am that was ALWAYS in the shop after getting rid of it and purchasing the Accord there is no comparsion. Just follow the maintenance schedule and get your oil changed every 3,000 - 6,000 miles depending on how hard you drive your car and you will be impressed. I travel quite frequently around the state and I always feel confident and comfortable in my car. My sisters both drive Hondas and swear by them as well!
Quality is down
Honda reliability is something of the past. I own two Honda's and one Acura and have experienced major mechnical problems with all. Transmission on the cars are awful and Traction control had to be replaced already. Add minor issues like dashboard bulbs having to be replaced, I believe it is time to look at another brand.
01-02 Accord V6: A Car Anyone will LOVE
I purchased my '01 Accord EX-VL Certified Used in January. Since then, it has been trouble-free, with no problems at all; legendary reliability, not to mention high resale value make this car a no- brainer. If you are considering an Accord, opt for the V6 and you will get a car that will make you happy for thousands of miles to come, just understand that you won't be first, nor the last one, to have one.
Update from previous review (100K)
I am the third owner, I purchased this car from my sister in June 2009, she bought the car from the original owner in July 2007 with 66K on it for $10,300 when I bought the car from her in June of 2009 it had 95K on it. I bought it from her for $6,300 after she put on 30K in 2 years. The car is great, it just hit 100,015 today and runs like a new car. I did some maintenance over the summer, I replaced the front rotors and did the timing belt and water pump and had the rear rotors resurfaced and new pads put on. Today I just did the spark plugs bc they are original. I used to drive a 96 Camry and this car is so much nicer to drive and the V6 is smooth and powerful. Gas mileage is at 24 mpg.
First 100k Miles
Just turned over 100k miles. Very reliable. Handles and rides very well. 5-speed is enjoyable to drive. Interior is well designed and efficient. No squeaks/rattles after being hammered by I-94 in SE Michigan on a daily basis.
68000 mile review
The Accord is the perfect all-around sedan for those who cannot afford a BMW (or those smart enough not to invest their hard earned money into rapidly depreciating assets at luxury prices). The Accord is sporty enough with a peppy engine and taut suspension to be really fun to zip around in. The car comfortably fits our family of four and has been a great stop-and-go hauler around town as well as a great highway touring sedan. Mechanically the car has been flawless. We have only had to replace a battery, oil and filters. The biggest drawback has been the length and turning radius making it sometimes difficult to park
Can't be beat for the money
I have been in the automotive industry for 12 years, and I swear by Honda products. This is a top quality vehicle that is a great all-around sedan. It is fun to drive, and the VTEC engine is quick. I drive it on HWY 5 between San Jose and L.A. This car can cruise between 80MPH and 100 MPH with great control and feel. The ride is very smooth and comfortable. I have no problem climbing the mountains, or passing other vehicles. I would recommend Accord to anyone who wants a practicle, reliable, fun, inexpensive, safe, roomey, low-maintenance, and quick car! You don't need to spend an arm or a leg for top quality. BUY a HONDA today!
Honda Suspect
We've had lots of problems with our 2001 Honda. For starters the paint started peeling and the dealer and Honda refused to back it. Had to essentially repaint the car in 3 spots. Over the years other things went- gas gauge, transmission, now the interior lights go on and off when going over bumps. Any work done at the dealer was double the costs as elsewhere. The ride is fine in town, but on the highway is poor and very light - can feel the car moving on windy days. Very surprised that Honda gets such good ratings when this ranks as our lowest quality car- including other GM vehicles.
Good car
I picked the Honda Accord for reliability and safety. The 2001 Accord offers good, but not great mileage. The ride is reasonably smooth and the EX offers 6-CD changer, certainly a plus. Handling on the vehicle is acceptable, but a bit of a dissapointment. Stopping distances seem a little long to me, especially if the anti-locks kick in. Turning isn't as smooth as I'd like either. The exterior, as with Hondas offers no excitment, but one cannot complain about top safety ratings and few-- in fact no mechanical problems at 65000 miles.
No real problems yet
I bought my 2001 Accord EX in 2000, and currently have about 46,000 miles on it, so far no major problems. Paint on the rear bumper is scratched / pealing, but I don't know if that is a result of living in NYC or poor manufacturing. Additionally the rear seat teather cover for carseats came off, the rubber started to come off around one of the rear windows, and the clutch was sticking during cold starts. All problems were fixed free of charge (I got it all done before my warrenty expired) and I haven't had any serious problems at all. So far, I must say I luv this car (although my 4 cyl. can use a little more punch).
Honda Accord EX Sedan
this is my 3rd honda product- love them. Extremely reliable except that the brakes don't last. never had any other problems.
Research paid off
I looked into purchasing a used car for over a year. After owning several Toyota Camry's I wanted something with equal build quality and reliability, but with a driver's design. This accord delivers! I love driving it and everyone else who drives it is amazed. This is truely an amazing vehicle.
honda
excellent car, comfortable, nice interior, like that all is power, runs smooth, fully loaded, has everything wanted
Love my car
I love my 2001 Accord vp! It has over 185k miles and continues to be reliable! I have had to replace many parts, but this is mostly due to normal wear and tear. Belts wear, seals leak. But that happens to any well used car. My engine and transmission are mechanically sound! I just bought a second Accord, because I was ready for new car with more features ( ex-l) and so don't want to sell my old one because I love it!
Great Car
We bought our honda new in 2001. It was our first honda and definitely will not be our last.It has been a great car-very dependable. We have had to do only routine maintenance to it! It rides the same today as it did 4 years ago. We are very happy. We have a total of 100,00 plus miles on it and plan on keeping for a long time!
Accords rule !
Our Accord has given us ZERO problems the last 3 years. Bought it used with 16K miles, now it has 65K miles and no problems at all. I am 6'2" and it has plenty of leg room, sits 5 people easily, and has good pickup for a 2.3L 4 cylinder. Would recommend this car to anyone looking for a vehicle they can hold onto for 7-8 years. Also holds resale value extremely well so it is good equity-wise. We took a 60 month loan on this vehicle and with 24 payments left it is worth $2000 more (wholesale) than what we owe which is excellent.
reliable accord
I am very happy with my accord. It has plenty of leg room when sitting in the back seat. It has a smooth ride and is very dependable.
Not surprised!!
I have three Hondas including two Accords. The great part of it is it's ingenious placement of the controls. When I'm looking for something for the a/c it is so easy to find it, the knobs are large and the buttons are close to the steering wheels. I've been in other cars and many car companies overlook this need. The gas mileage is great and the performance is pretty good for a four cylinder car. I was expecting a boring car but it is much more than I ever thought an Accord could be. If you are looking for a great car that will last almost forever, a Honda Accord is just the car! :D
huh!
After driving for an hour or so. Vehicle starts to rough idle.
Just Solid
This car is just solid. The doors are solid, the steering tight, and the power is smooth. After driving a 2000 Civic EX there is just no comparison. You can literally hear the quality by tapping on some of the interior panels. Honda has acknowledged the above average failure in the transmission and has compensated by extending the warranty to 100k miles. I'm not concerned at all.
Solid!
My wive loves this car. Dependable, stylish and reliable. Handles well on winter roads.
Honda Accord Review
Had trouble with automatic transmission at 24,000 miles. Honda America replaced it completely and extended the transmission warranty from 3 years or 36,000 miles to 7 years or 100,000 miles! I am very pleased with the car.
MyFirst Accord
My girlfriend drives a Honda and I loved driving it which resulted in me buying my 2002 Accord EX V6. The low price was an extra bonus. Overall this car runs smoothly and you can really feel the 200hps working. However, I see myself going to the gas station more often then expected. It's a V6 but it's also a Honda! I expected to get at least 25mpg if not more but I'm averaging 21mpg(highway + city). Now I'm kind of afraid to drive the car just becuase I know afterwards, the car will be saying, "Feed me now or be stuck on the road." Thinking back I may just have paid a little more and get the new Camery.
Accord EX
Nice family vehicle. It yields good gas mileage. We have had some issues with some of the rubber sealings around the windows but warranty coverage has taken care of the problems. We have added a spoiler on the trunk and it seems to be too heavy - the trunk may fall on your head while open. Overall not a too bad vehicle.
Hate to see it go
My wife needed a new car. She test drove a few. When she drove the Accord, she had to have it. 4 yrs later, family is bigger and we get her a new Pilot. I get stuck with this (2001 lx 4dr 5spd). I gotta tell ya, I try to kill this thing every day, shifting at redline and aggressive downshifting. Always dealer serviced. I commute 50 miles a day. I drive this thing near its limits every day, and always get 31 mpg. 50/50 hwy, city. It's still as healthy as ever!
Not as good as I though...
At its 7,000 miles, the car refused to start, and the dealer said it is normal... it happened again for a couple of times until I traded it in for a Nissan Pathfinder after 15 months The VTEC V6 engine is good... very powerful and smooth...but style is just so-so and interior looks cheap... the leather seats just look like plastic...the painting is horrible...I can even scratch the bumper with my nails...
A terriffic value
EXTREMELY RELIABLE with low Maintenance. Overall a great value with a total cost of only $2400 annually [averaging 20,000 miles] for first 5 yrs.. Original total cost $18,300 incl all taxes etc..- current value $7400. Only repairs in 5yrs/92,000 miles are front brakes/rotors and clock light bulb.
Matts Honda
Excellent car from the start, if you buy a Honda Accord you gotta get a V-6 It gets up and goes nicely, great handling and braking's not bad either
