Hondas have the best interior

As we did 2 years ago when we bought a Honda CRV AWD, we shopped and test-drove many brands (Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Mazda) but when we got to the Hondas at the end the interior was like a breath of fresh air and felt just right. Just an extra inch or two here and there front and back (especially headroom, I'm tall), clean and simple dash and control layout (much more so than the other brands), excellent window visibility all around, and by far the best seats. A really great piece of human factors engineering. Most data I've found on hybrid cars in general shows that their actual fuel economy comes in at 15-20% below the EPA, due to differences between the EPA testing protocol and true driving conditions, especially here where we live in the mountains. EPA on sticker is 48/48 mpg, I'm getting 42 which matches the center of the bell-curve on actual data reported from customers. Update after 1 year: Overall mileage much better than previously reported. Live in rural/suburban area with most driving at 50mph or under. Consistently getting 50mpg. Exceptions to that: Interstate cruising at 70 mph mileage drops to 45mpg due to wind resistance. Also, during winter the engine runs more for heat so mileage drops by 5mpg or so. Now back to spring, no heat required, back to 50mpg. No problems at all in 1 year / 10,000 miles. Here's a big one: Reading other reviews, I saw complaints about the owner's manual not explaining a lot of things. Very true! The paper manual that comes with the car is just the very basics. Go to Honda.com and download the PDF of the full 600+ page manual that explains all of the gauges and settings in great detail. It's free. Answered a lot of advanced questions for me. Well worth doing!

Better than the Toyota Camry Hybrid

Update 9/23 Up to 25000 miles driven with no mechanical or electrical issues. Vehicle has been rock solid in terms of those two metrics. The OEM tires finally gave up around 22k miles. The only issue in this model is the extremely high road noise. Honda really missed doing good noise isolation. During longer trips on rougher surfaces over high speeds the noise is really intrusive. Moving to the newer tires has helped mitigate it some but the noise levels are still high enough that having normal conversations is tough at higher speeds. Thinking of replacing the car due to this issue. Update - 8/20 The car had its first service and Honda Maintenance was provided free. Oil change was done and the cabin filter replaced. Couple of issues that have shown in the first year of ownership have been a rattle coming from the HUD display. On searching through forums it seems like this happens when its warm and the stuff starts expanding. Plan to get this checked by the service team to get it fixed. Another issue is a quiet buzz from the sub woofer mounting in the rear deck. Assuming this is quick fix. Disappointed that this is occurring on the top trim of the car. But due to the ride, Hybrid mileage, and the overall packaging I am not docking a star of the review. --------------- Original Review Test drove the Honda Accord Hybrid-exl, Toyota Camry Hybrid SE and then the Sonata Hybrid. No challenge there the Honda and Toyota came up winners due to the vague driving feel of the sonata. The Sonata was too plush and felt disconnected to the road. Warranty wise the Sonata does have the best in the industry so if that is important then go that route. It was decently specd out in the entry level which was the only model I could test drive. Now between the the two main competitors Honda and Toyota I did not have any prior experience with either manufacturers or a hybrid car. I am moving over from a Mercedes e350. After a while of paying luxury car servicing costs and spending way more money than I needed to, I wanted to do my part in saving fuel and at the same time have a decently sized car with all creature comforts. After the test drives I did note the following. In terms of looks the Toyota wins hands down. Love the new look of the Toyota. The Honda feels chiseled and refined on the outside compared to the aggressive sporty looks of the Toyota. Unfortunately for Toyota, I am not the kind to make purchases based on looks alone. Toyota Camry was quieter and had a more refined drive in slower than 45mph speeds. Once the speeds went up the noise levels in the cabin were the same between the cars. In terms of performance and driving dynamics the Honda Accord was hands down the winner. When I hit the sport button I immediately felt it button down and feel springy. After the test drive of about 5 miles of mixed driving where I tested it with a lead foot the Accord ended up getting 35mpg and was going up further as I pulled back in the parking lot. The Toyota seemed ok from mileage perspective at higher speeds but the driving dynamics were just not there as the Accord. On the feature front the Honda seemed to be loaded with more features than a comparatively specd Toyota model. A fully loaded XLE model with all the comforts that you would find on a higher end luxury car would set you back about 2-3k more on the Toyota vs the Honda. I guess you do pay for the free maintenance that Toyota provides. I picked up my fully loaded Honda hybrid touring a week ago and have used it for my daily commute to work and grocery runs etc which has about 50/50 split of city and highways. So far I am averaging around 43mpg according to the trip computer. I drive normally as I would with my Mercedes and have seen the instant mpg go up close to 55mpg on a few drives. I do see it hover around 38- mid 40s if I am in sport mode for an extended time. I see how driving habits can really help improve mpg by 5-10 mpg more. The seats are very comfortable and adjust automatically according to the key fob number. That feature alone is worth picking this one up. No adjusting seats when you climb in if your household has two drivers. The 10 speaker sound system is good, and the entertainment center is decently sized and well laid out. The HUD is pretty cool and not distracting. The safety features are excellent. Especially the collision visual alerts at slow speed when you are parking are great for tighter spots. Rear view camera works well and when there is cross traffic there is visual indication of direction the vehicle is approaching from. Cabin is not noiseless like a Mercedes but it is par for the course especially if you have music on. The steering wheel feels chunky and very sporty. Heated and vented seats should help during the seasonal temp changes. The Qi charger for phones works well and so does Carplay. More than enough room, actually feels as big as an e350. Almost the perfect family sedan that caters to everyone. If you are in the market for an excellent upscale Hybrid sedan Accord is the way to go.

Best Car for my driving conditions

Bought this for the safety and luxury features. I drive 100 miles every work day. The Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist allow me to focus on looking outside the car. The Blind Side Alert (I think that's what Honda calls it), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert systems are like having an extra set of eyes watching out for me. I have the Touring edition, for which the Ventilated Seats provide great relief during the hot days, and the Heads Up Display is great for keeping my eyes on the road and not inside the car. I went with a Black Interior due to lighter color interiors tend to create glare on windows in sunlight ( which helps the interior of the car disappear, and keep my eyes on the road). I've had to adjust my driving habits by going exactly the speed limit, and the Cumulative Fuel Economy on the Range and Fuel page on the instrument cluster reflects about 47 to 49 mpg. However, when refueling I calculate 52 to 54 mpg. I test drove both the Traditional Powertrain and the Hybrid. The Hybrid was much more smooth, though, less torque at freeway speeds (yet, satisfactorily performed with no concern). I'll restate that, the Hybrid has satisfactory torque at all speeds, and I'm extremely happy with this purchase. The return of the dials and buttons on the infotainment are very appreciated, and the customizable options for displays tiles make selection of sources and info easy and quick. I get about a 570 to 590 range (calculated by the car).

Upon start, it’s so quiet, I don’t know for sure it’s on. 46.6 miles per gallon on a 250 mile trip. Roomier than my 2010 Accord with more trunk space. Very nice exterior lines.

I used to have a 2011 Honda Civic so this car is definitely an upgrade! I love my new Honda Accord Hybrid EX-L so far (1 week in). The mpg so far is about 40 miles to the gallon and I’m still trying to figure out how to drive to maximize my fuel efficiency. The dashboard readouts help with that although I’m still trying to understand all the different dashboard readouts and what they all mean. It’s kind of a joke almost that they made such a powerful smooth shifting engine yet using that power is counter productive for maximum fuel efficiency! Nevertheless it is a fun car to drive and wonderful to have when you absolutely need it. The steering is very smooth and feels great to drive. When I test drove the car the sales guy let me try out the steering assist and cruise control and break assist (if that’s what you call it). It was pretty amazing how the car stayed in the lane and even moved back to the center of the lane by steering on its own. It’s not a self driving car but still the technology is on its way. You can turn this feature off if you don’t want to use it. The automatic braking when cruise control was on was pretty amazing too. The car can automatically slow down and even come to a complete stop when the car in front of you does. Again something you turn on or off. I think the design of the dash and console are fantastic- simple, clean lines, not fussy or cluttered, ample storage, and comfortable. I love the Apple car play and dashboard read out. It has been pretty seamless so far. Bluetooth is also excellent. I’m almost giddy about the automatic text readout and Siri reply! Love it. Fantastic car and purchase so far.

After 3 years and 45,000 miles I’ve had to replace the 12 volt battery twice. Both times covered by warranty but next time won’t be. Seems to be a fairly common problem among owners. You won't get anywhere near the 48 MPG the EPA estimates show. 39 mpg isn't bad compared to the non-hybrid versions but falls far short of the advertised 48/48/48. Great ride and very quiet. Safety features are awesome but, the same can be found on many other new cars. Shop wisely. Out the door prices vary widely.

Brush up on your hybrid skills!!

This is a wonderful car..It happens to be my third hybrid. The first being a Toyota Avalon, then a LEXUS ES300H - Now the 2019 Accord EX-L. This car has by far the best fuel milage of the three I have owned. Not to the folks who have never had a HYBRID....Read up on Hybrid skills when driving. Talk to some people who have a hybrid. You cannot drive a hybrid the same way you drive a gasoline vehicle. If you do you will be disappointed with your milage. What do I mean???....You may have to slow down a little....I commute a total of 160 miles a day. I average 44-48 MPG. HOWEVER.....I went from driving an average of 75-78 miles per hour down to 70-72 miles per hour.....Believe me it makes a hug difference. Driving around town - Go easy on the gas...Coast whenever you can this way the gasoline engine shuts down and allows the batteries to charge. Get to speed gradually, allow the electric motor to get you up to at least 25 miles per hour. If you do that you will see your fuel milage improve greatly. Here is what I don't like about the car - It handles so good on the highway the car thinks I'm not steering it and the "STEERING REQUIRED" light flashes on the dash. Also for a car I think it's a bit low to the ground compared to other sedans. The redesigned 2019 overall is great....Plenty of leg room front and back. The new body style is amazing and quiet interior as far as road noise goes. I love it.

Good car, a little bit unrefined

First of all, reviewers who can not obtain full EPA MPG rating, they likely have a short commute. This car takes 3-4 miles to warm us and to get to proper operating mode before it gets to the "proper" efficiency, drive less and you MPG will suffer. My commute is 12 miles and first 4-5 miles I'm under 30MPG, then it builds up fast to 45-50 MPG. When I'm on longer trips, I can easily get above 50 MPG while driving 70-75 MPH. The build quality is quite good, car is comfortable, roomy and quiet. My main complaint will be about steering: it is overly soft and not very informative, Nissan's take on it is better, but their build quality is abysmal. Once I adjusted to the lesser informative steering, the rest is just fine, I enjoy the car.

Having over 3 million miles in the rearview mirror, trucking, Greyhound and taxi owner and currently putting high miles on this Honda via Uber, I have found potentially serious issues. Admittedly, they may be only in my particular car but they need to be pointed out in case they're generic. All are sporadic and only occur occasionally which makes it difficult to be addressed by 'serive managers'. The lane control on occasion wants to follow an exit lane, usually if it has a well painted line exiting to the right. The 'bug' is momentary and it corrects itself quickly. Yet an inexperienced driver may be drawn into a potential accident through over correction. That same lane control will 'react' to white/light colored vehicles in the right lane when passing them. Again, briefly. Yet again, a potential issue for new, distracted or tired drivers. As I have put over 10,000 miles on this car in three months, I have developed a good understanding of the vehicle and these issues are rare in occurrence yet catch one by suprise due to the very rareness of them. The worst one is having the automatic breaking system kick in, usually when passing under large direction signs overhead for a brief period as it looks to me the system interprets the signs as barriers!. This event just occurred without ANY barrier, sign or reasonable explanation which left me a bit shaken up. (Having experienced pretty much as a professional driver, shaking me up is NOT something that I take lightly!) My vehicle also has a quirk that's outright dangerous, in my opinion. It has only occurred a few times and would be very hard to replicate by s service department. On freeways, at speed, 60-70 MPH, and a sudden HARD brake- to avoid a potential collision the right front brake applies before the left, pulling the vehicle to the right. It quickly corrects but it is flat out dangerous. The breaks are perfect in normal driving conditions with no hint of anything untoward in the system until that freeway speed and hard brake application. On the positive side, both ride and comfort are superb. The sensors are a great assistance in parallel parking and warnings when backing up. The turning radius is well below average. Likely due to both the electric motor and gas engine are 'side by side', that leaves less room for wheel turns, so be careful parallel parking and maneuvering in tight spaces. Overall, a good car. The high tech aspect is a 'work in progress', however. I can drive this car far better on my own than with the cute assists. At least for now.

For someone used to driving large displacement v8s and diesel engines, this car is surprisingly quick. Fuel milage is definitely dependent upon driving style, but in my experience I average about 46 to 47 mpg on my 100 mile commute driving at speeds ranging from 60 to 80 mph.

Hybrid mileage misconceptions

My wife and I drove the Accord Hybrid and think it is a much better value than the Toyota Camry Hybrid which charges extra for every little thing! We have not made a purchase yet but with the Accord and Sonata being about the same price it will be a difficult decision. I have noticed a number of people complaining about the mileage and wanted to say a couple of things based on having owned 4 hybrids thus far... 1. Mileage is much more sensitive to drivers input on hybrids than on non-hybrid. If you want the best mileage work on improving your driving habits. 2. You will reach your "peak" mileage around 5,000 to 10,000 miles. 3. As someone who got a mileage rebate on the first Sonata hybrid, suing is not the answer!

Pros: -Quiet ride if throttle is not pushed with a heavy foot. -Cost savings with gas vs. gas model if driven under optimal conditions. -Great cargo space and best in class with cargo space. -Roomy interior. -Different trims to go with. Cons: -Some trims hardly provide any value. I would say skip the EX model and go Touring or EX-L if you want a higher end trim. -Noisy cabin when throttle is engaged. -Front end of car is very long so it is hard to gauge how close you are to things in front of you. -Only Touring trim provides built-in Navigation and Parking Sensors--and a few other things but they aren't as important in my opinion. -Gas mileage can seem inconsistent. -Chrome. I think chrome is tacky in general so just an opinion. -Braking distance can be hard to gauge. You have to really stop far. Use paddle shifters to help downshift quickly though. -UGLY tail lights. If I wanted crab claws on my car, I'll go to a seafood restaurant and take the food to go and then glue the crab claws myself to the back. Hideous. The secret to driving this vehicle is to let your brakes regenerate. Use the paddle shifters to down shift your vehicle during stops. This charges the battery. Then while driving, use EV mode as much as possible. I have, from time to time, gotten as much as 54mpg to the gallon being mindful of my driving habits during 2-15 mile trips. Also, most people probably don't properly break-in their engines and that could be why their gas mileage is poor. Break-in period for this vehicle is 600 miles. Don't beat on the engine and it will last and perform properly and optimally. Personally, I think I should have went with the Touring trim because of the Parking Sensors. However, I enjoy my ride now and I can't complain too much in terms of its performance and design.

When did Honda stop caring?

I purchased a 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring exactly one month ago. It seemed like a nice car at the time. The 3rd day is when I noticed a squeak in the dash. It was constant. It sounded like it was coming from around the HUD. I took the car back one week later for other repairs from when I purchased it - two scratches on the vehicle and one dent - and also the squeak. The paintwork on the scratches and the dent look fine, but there was overspray on the front driver's side air dam. Also, the squeak persisted the moment I took it off the lot. It only grew worse - I thought maybe it was just me. Other passengers riding with me asked what it was. I took it back, and this time a different dealer told me my dash is warped. The resulting "Fix" left the top of my dash looking like it had been carved up and put back together with foam, but the squeak was fixed. For one day. It's back. I am exasperated, and I feel like this car is not only a humongous mistake, but it's caused nothing but stress and anxiety since I bought it. I just want it to go away. I've been in touch with the Honda of the Desert where I purchased. They won't take the car back. They say they are appalled by what happened at their service department. American Honda has said they won't "get in the middle". I am still trying to get a resolution from them, but nothing to date that is satisfactory. One American Honda rep said, "So what do you want me to do about it?" Bottom line, I would not recommend this car at all. What I once saw a company with value that treated its customers fairly appears to have become a giant corporate bureaucracy. UPDATE: After 3.5 months of ownership, I sold the car after attempting to have the failing navigation replaced. The navigation/infotainment electronics on this car crashed multiple times on a daily basis. The appointment was arranged through the service manager. I was told that everything was ready when I dropped the car for service on a Friday, and it would be ready by the next day. The next day comes, and I hear nothing from the Honda dealership - Honda of the Desert. Finally, I call the dealer at 4 pm. At THAT time, the service rep told me that Honda did not approve the repair. They never called to tell me this, and this was completely inconsistent with what the service manager told me before bringing the car in, as well as the service rep at the dealer when dropping it off. The quality of the vehicle overall was questionable at best. The stereo was a complete joke. The material on the dash rubbed against the HUD trim, making a squeaking sound that sounded like styrofoam rubbing. After three attempts to fix, it was finally resolved when I found a service bulletin Honda released that neither Honda of the Desert, nor Honda of Hollywood knew existed. The electronics with the lane keep and adaptive cruise were wonky and not smooth in operation. It would slam on the brakes when a clear road was ahead randomly. It would also accelerate very hard when a car moved from my lane only to slam the brakes on as it approached more traffic. The car had been with the dealer 6 times over 3.5 months of ownership. I have a full-time job and a life. I do not have time to be dealing with a brand new car that is clearly a lemon. It was obvious that Honda was more interested in putting up barriers than resolving warranty issues on a brand new car. AND, Honda of America said I needed to take the car to the dealership of origin for service issues. That was when I could get them to respond. Responses took a week at best. The whole situation was unacceptable. Between the multiple unresolved issues that should have been resolved without question, and most frustrating, Honda's resistance to resolve issues, I decided to sell the car. It was the best decision I made since purchasing it. I will NEVER buy another Honda. I will make certain I tell anyone interested in purchasing a Honda to look at other brands. This was the 4th Honda I have owned over the years. I researched the vehicle. I also felt Honda's reputation was good. My decision to purchase a Honda Accord Hybrid was guided by that reputation, my research, and previous ownership experiences. I couldn't have been more wrong. I've never had a more disappointing car ownership and service experience. Honda has been completely successful at failing to deliver a quality product.

I live in Atlanta Metro and drive 80+ miles everyday. I've seen a lot of folks say they aren't getting the 48/48/48 that's advertised. I'm not sure how they are driving or the environment in which they do but I'm here to tell you that 48 mpg is not only realistic, it happens for me every single day. A few caveats. Don't excessively speed and I don't floor it at take off. I keep the vehicle at 73 or under on the interstate and ramp up my speed off the line and therefore have not issues getting this MPG. In fact on short trips to the store I'm getting 54-55 on average. For city stop and go driving this vehicle meets expectations. Interior is clean, simple, and to the point. Infotainment system operated smooth and without hiccup. I enjoy the benefits of the lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot monitoring.

This car is very attractive, rides well, everything operates as expected. The only disappointment is the gas mileage. I have read many reviews and "real world" mileage is 37 to 42. The few who claim 48 to 50 are either fanatics at coasting etc. or not accurate. I do everything I can think of and continually watch YouTube and the internet and try the different types of driving, and can't get over 42 but mostly 37-39. I wish they would promote the car on it overall engineering because it is excellent, but not pretend that you are going to get 48 mpg. ALSO, the sensors in the front only warn you of corner bumper objects, not objects in the middle. In other words, if there is a post or similar object in the middle of the front of the car then there is NO warning and you are going to damage the front of the car. The rear backup warning system is excellent in the width of its spread and warning and that leads you to expect the same for the front, but that is not correct. The passenger seat only goes forward and back, not up or down. This means the passenger is usually lower than the driver. Both seat adjustments should be equal. I think the later year may? Have changed that. Also, the outside mirrors do not adjust with the driver. So the steering wheel and seats adjust, but then you have to sit there and do the outside and rear mirrors. You can open all windows with the remote as you approach the car, you can’t close them that way; why? I have the most expensive Accord, and its a slight disappointment in small ways.

2019 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring 4dr Sedan (2.0L 4cyl gas/electric hybrid CVT)
5 of 5 people found this review helpful

So, I've read a lot of reviews and I'll give my own opinion based on what I've experienced and what I've read before buying my 2019 Accord hybrid touring. FIRST AND FOREMOST, GAS MILEAGE: My car really does hit 48-50mpg. This car is a hybrid. It is also my first hybrid. My previous car was a BMW...A gas-guzzling terrible 2015 228i BMW. So, how do you get 50mpg for all you out there who complain about your mileage? The secret to high gas mileage: Use regenerative (regen) braking with the paddle shifters. The left ( - ) paddle shifter increases the brakes (think of the - on the paddle shifter as a decrease in speed) and pumps more power to recharge the batteries. The + paddle (right) decreases the regenerative power, and provides a small bump in speed if the - paddle was already used. With that being said... PROS: - Stunning, aggressive-looking car. Honestly, it reminds me of an Audi (which i used to be obsessed with). - LOTS of technology. The one thing that it's missing is to show all 4 tire pressures on the screen live. My BMW had that, and it's the only technological thing that the BMW has over Honda as far as I'm concerned. - Very smooth, luxurious ride. My friend has a 535i BMW. This Honda drives as smooth as that $60,000 BMW does. - Decent acceleration - Extremely roomy, lots of space. - HUD is really, really cool. - Lots of small but very useful features, auto-lock (if key is more than 5' away) and auto-unlock by touching door handle for example are awesome. - Auto-dimming rearview mirrors are great - LED headlights! Auto-high beam if no on-coming cars are detected. Really cool. - Honda sensing is good. No complaints there. Just be sure to always use turn signal to switch lanes.... even if there is no one else around you...... because the steering wheel will jiggle if you do not. - Great gas mileage. - The engine is not as loud as some make it seem, but I've read this is only when you floor it. Hasn't been an issue for me and I'm pleasantly surprised by it. - Safety features are top notch. This car also feels super safe without any sacrifices. CONS - The handling is mediocre. My old 2014 Accord, and 2015 BMW were better at handling. This is kind of a bummer, but I've used regen braking on turns and it's fine. Still not stellar though. - The braking distance really is long WITHOUT regen braking. You must use the Regen braking. If you brake correctly using the Regen braking on the paddle shifters, braking distance is perfectly acceptable and should never be a problem. It also drastically increases mileage because the battery will be used more. As a bonus using the regen braking also saves $$$ because the pads will last longer. Note: The gas engine in this car is mainly used as a generator for the battery power. It is also is used for A/C and for going at speeds above ~50mph. There is no transmission. I've so far driven 200 miles (on and off) and have only used about 1/5 a tank of gas.. around the city and highway. Amazing car. Add more tire pressure instrumentation though, Honda!!

Upgraded from 2017 Hybrid Base to 2019 Hybrid EX

My 2017 just got broke in at 39K and was getting a pretty consistent 49-50 mpg. Took our 2017 in for service and while we were there the salesman talked us into test driving the 2019. We really liked the added safety features of the EX over our base model 2017. The ride was also nicer, the engine felt smoother and we loved the upgraded infotainment system with Android Auto. We traded in our 2017 and took the 2019 home. Went in for an oil change, came home with a new car. After 3 weeks and a 2400 mile trip, our only complaint is the mileage. We averaged 43 on our trip from Florida, over the Smokies to Ohio and Virginia. I will say that the mileage did seem to get better with each tank of gas but we are disappointed with the 43 mpg after getting close to 50 on our 2017. Fit and Finish is excellent and ride is very smooth. We enjoyed the Android Auto and the large screen display in the EX versus the small display of the Base model. We didn't feel the $1200 increase to the EX-L was worth the money so we stayed with the EX. It really gave us everything we felt we needed with all the added safety features. I think the only thing we don't have is the Parking Assist, but we seldom parallel park so it wasn't a big deal. If it wasn't for the MPG I'd have given it a full 5 stars, hopefully it will improve as the car breaks in. Other than that I feel it's a good solidly built car.

Paid extra for the hybrid trim. Get nowhere near advertised mileage. Just got back from 500 mile road trip and averaged less than 36 mpg. Had I known this I would’ve purchased another car.

Love this car, except for one major thing. I bought a touring model in Nov of 2018. Car typically gets 37-38 mpg, Best so far is 40.6 over a tankful. And I baby this car trying to get the best mileage out of it. Dealer cannot figure out why a car that’s supposed to get 47 is doing that poorly. Honda??? You have any thoughts? Other than that it’s a magnificent vehicle. Just a bit frustrated about mileage. One year later... Honda never could give me answers other than "your mileage may vary." As the car has settled in I have been able to get 42 mpg on some tanks by accelerating very slowly and doing most driving between 45-50 mph. HOWEVER, anytime i take a longer trip, say from San Antonio to Dallas (250 miles), I get 37-38 every time. Awful hwy mileage for a hybrid of this generation. Still a quiet, stable auto that I really enjoy except for the mileage frustrations.

After significant internet research, I was torn between the standard Accord and the hybrid and standard Camry, as well as not sure about the different trims. I am so happy that I bought the Accord Hybrid base model (3 weeks old now). It is an absolute joy to drive, is surprisingly quick, and most significantly, brings me peace on my long commute. It is absolutely the smoothest car I have ever driven and the interior is functional and not overly busy. Also, it is a far step above the 1.5t, and I love that the gas engine is naturally aspirated. I could not be happier.

I bought this car strictly for the gas mileage. Big mistake. Simply doesn't get more than 36 mpg, which is less than my 2016 Accord non-hybrid. Took it to the dealer and they checked it out and told me "The car is working fine, it must be your driving"!! If it was my driving, how did I get more mpg than was rated on the accord non-hybrid? It got 32 mpg on the highway with the adaptive cruise control on. How could it be my driving if my feet never touched the gas or break pedals? I test drove the Camry hybrid and it got 52 mpg on my test drive. The Camry is more expensive but mpg is accurate and interior is far better looking than Accord. Car won't sync with my Samsung Galaxy. Dealer can't figure that out either. This is my 4th (and last) Honda. I couldn't be more disappointed in my car buying decision. (6 months later) Okay after 6 months and 4,600 miles on the car, the information screen completely shuts down while driving and reboots. This has happened numerous times. Dealer says a computer update may take care of the problem but doesn't know when there will be an update. It could be that other 19 Accord Touring Hybrid models have not had all the issues I have. I am probably unfortunate enough to have bought a lemon. 11/25/20 - I've had the car for 1 year and 9 months now. At its highest point it got 40 MPG. Now that cold weather is back, the MPG is going back to the mid 30s. Electric mode basically shuts off whenever the heat or heated seats are on.

I have had my 2019 Accord Hybrid for 2 months now, and have logged close to 9000 miles of highway and city driving. As I have learned to drive the vehicle most effectively and purposefully, I am over 50 MPG, the vast majority of the time. This is a better vehicle than the Toyota Avalon and the Audi A4 that I owned prior. This car is jammed with technology that suits my own human factors quite well. It is comfortable and easy to drive. It has the power to interact safely in requisite situations. If the reliability meets the Honda reputation, it will be the greatest car ever in my eyes.

Sharp looking car - surprised when people tell me “ wow, that’s a good looking car. Only several weeks old so no experience with the mileage. My wife agrees with most reports - getting out is sub par. All else seems worth the price. A CD player would be real nice but they seem to be fading from the industry (unfortunately)(Subaru May be the only one to have them).

I am very pleased with this car. the interior quality is very good and the car interior is very quiet, except when the engine fires up(this can be loud). the seats are firm, but that is my preference. the sound system on the ex-l is okay, not anything special, though. It has 2 usb inputs and of course bluetooth. the bluetooth combined with my recent LG V60 phone is nice, fast ,and stable. one gripe-no aux cable port like my old Accord. the android auto is very good, too, esp the map screen. one thing-the quality of the usb-c cable is crucial. I tried several cables to get it to work...it needs to be a brand-name cable. Mine is from Belkin and works great. another note of caution-the windshield replacement for this car is over $1000 and if you commute in an areal with lots of rocks/debris/trucks in the road and get lots windshield damage, this should be factored in. Only difference I can tell is there is basically a clear area up top for the camera to see through. It is a racket for sure. Also, some states put punitive car tag taxes on hybrids. Mine is 75$. Since the gas tax is only 18 cents a gallon here, I will never pay that much gas tax in a year. But it is very nice to not have to go to the gas station but once every 10-14 days instead of every 4-5. the car can be hypermiled or when needed, will provide pretty decent acceleration if called upon. No, it will not beat my 2010 v6, but seems fairly powerful. I am driving using eco mode and using the paddles to slow down the car when needed, and typically getting in the low 40s (42-45) on most commutes. If the day is really hot and the car has been in the sun all day, I notice that it is less, especially in very short trips. It seems that if the interior is hot for a long time, must heat up the battery and make it less efficient. the acc, lane assist are great and the acc is the best way to maximize mileage. it will keep you from tailgating if you set the distance right. parking and driving feel almost identical to my old 2010 Accord v6...it is hard to tell where the front of the car is and constantly worried about touching posts in the front, and it is very easy to scrape curbs if you are not careful. cross traffic and blind spot sensors are very good and worthwhile. was lucky, got a deal on the ex-l for about 28.5K. the car is still good at 21k miles. the oil did not need changing as per maintenance minder but once so far. one annoyance, the brake hold feature will disengage when you undo the seat belt-often needed for atms that are now designed for suvs. the voice is annoying-it will tell me to press the brake pedal and disengage the parking brake even after I have already started doing it and also no way around the legal nag screen in the beginning, but other brands are doing this too. most of them have black carpet, which shows every speck of dust. combined mileage total about 42mpg. a few crashes of the screen console, while driving, alarmed at first but doesn't affect anything, evidently.

Still getting used to the car, my first Accord, but it is a huge step up in terms of driving comfort, gas mileage, and features. Was previously driving a Sonata, and almost went with a new Hybrid Sonata but wasn’t impressed with the car’s features. The EX had everything I wanted and still had a great price. Will really enjoy this car on my commutes.

I feel duped. We bought this car in Dec 2018 in Missouri. We test drove it. Nice ride! Comfortable, different than our Toyotas, more cost effective than a Toyota Camry Hybrid. We watched the MPG go from 42 to 29 during the winter. We are being told it's winter gas problem and 48/48 is optimal driving. If I would have known that we would only get 35.4 (over 5k miles) in the cold for 5 months out of the year, I would have never bought it. I contacted Honda and they have referred me back to the dealership for testing again. We were told to bring it back when we have 5K on it and it's warmer. If not resolved, I fear we will have to sue Honda.

Yeah...not even close to the advertised MPG...I have 2300 miles on the car, and am at 41.1 MPG. Mix of low speed driving around town, and about 800 miles of interstate driving. Gas mileage over 70 MPH sucks! Also, very disappointed in how far it will go on battery alone...less than one mile before the engine kicks on and starts burning gas. For those who are focused on getting a hybrid in order to ignore gas prices...do NOT get this car. One other issue...it does have a lot of cool gauges inside, and is pretty fancy technologically. BUT, there is absolutely NO explanation in the manual of what the gauges indicate...it just tells you the name of them. Ditto for the screen buttons re media player. Had to get a service guy to explain what they meant, and when it came to the gauges it was clear he didn't know what certain things indicate. Here's an update...at about 9400 in mileage, and miles per gallon average is 43.2...if you're going to buy a hybrid to save on gas, don't get this one.

Car and trim level are great but I paid a premium for the hybrid based on EPA ratings. True mpg is 38.4 through 8500 miles. Driving style aside, most of mine is highway going 70-75 mph which isn’t speed racer. I drive In eco mode and don’t rev it out. Had a Passat tdi before this and this feels like a similar scam

I’ve had the car for about 12k miles & 6 months and I’ve never reach the advertised mpg of 48, closest I’ve gotten was 42. Over time driving in interstate speeds get extreme road noise and seems to do a number on the car since after my first time do so made my door seal start to come loose and the service department tried blaming me for it and never fixed it. And how does a while alignment for a front wheel drive sedan cost $99 but on a suv for a luxury brand be $70😑 blows my mind. Now the performance is pretty great for moving through city traffic and and getting around slow/stupid drivers. In stop and go-traffic, the ACC works pretty dam well, saved me a a couple time😁. And the lane assist is probably best in any vehicle I’ve drive!!! But sometimes my CarPlay acts up or the system does a complete restart when I plug in my phone.

I've had my 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid for about 5 months now and I'm kind of disappointed. My biggest complaints are the Bluetooth connectivity doesn't work very well. Sometimes it doesn't connect at all and other times it take several minutes for it to connect to my phone. The other thing is the gas mileage. The rating is 47 mpg City and Highway. I've been getting 35 to 39 mpg with mixed driving in econ mode and I'm not hitting the gas very hard or very often. How can they possibly got 47 mpg, come on. The third thing is the back up camera is fuzzy even after I clean it the resolution is not that great, even compared to my old Ford Fusion. It seems like the car is build well, but there are several things that could be improved on. For a 10th generation I would think this car would be perfect, but not even close.

I bought this to replace a '16 Malibu Premier that just went out of warranty. The Malibu overestimated it's fuel economy to 30 mpg when doing the math at the pump it was actually averaging 27 mpg. I bought the 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring in late October before I learned to truly drive this hybrid and before the colder air moved in to affect my hybrid's mpg. I've been able to get 48 to 53 mpg on warm days of 75 degrees and warmer while as the temperature drops to 50 to 60 degrees I could get 37 to 42 mpg tops. 38 degrees to mid 40s I would really struggle to get 36mpg and usually get less. I love this car for all the features the Malibu had plus the benefits of driving so far a minimum of 550 miles on 12.8 gallons of gas. Where the 22/33 2.0T Malibu probably wouldn't get 400 miles on 15.8 gallons. I'll be taking a trip from Houston, TX to Corpus Christi that is 200+ miles away soon and did a Gas Buddy fuel trip calculator (that I found very reliable when I drove to Florida) and found that I can take my car both ways and around Corpus and return home with about 1/3 of a tank remaining. The heated and cooled seats are very effective and the car is largely quiet as long as you drive it like a hybrid rather than a sports car like a few YouTube reviewers. If I were to complain about two things and one is personal and the other is general. First my lower back hurts after driving this car. I does have lumbar support, but this doesn't help. I bought something to go behind my lower back to remedy this. The general complaint is that I own a Google Pixel 3 XL and it has a hard time connecting to the head unit by bluetooth all of the time. Not every time, but often. This affects the ability to launch Android Auto and you have to work to get it working again.

OK - I've got a history with Honda. I bought my first Odyssey van new in 2008. It's been the best vehicle I've ever owned. But with mileage piling up and with little things starting to nickel-and-dime me, I decided last year that it was time to get a new one. Based on the goodness of my 2008 model, I bought a 2018 Odyssey. The ergonomics fail to live up to what I expected. But my wife likes the 2018 for its safety features. Which brings me to our 2019 Accord EX hybrid. Numerous features seemed appealing to me for the sedan (which will be my work car). The most desirable is the fuel economy. So this original review was written after about 100 miles on the car. Skip to the end to see the update. LIKES: 1. Fantastic fuel economy (compared to non-hybrid cars & SUVs) 2. Cool-looking power-transfer graphics 3. Familiar controls to our existing Odyssey 4. Smooth ride 5. Good pickup 6. Quiet in the cabin 7. Braking is progressive and solid-feeling 8. Impossible to tell when gasoline engine starts & stops 9. Good steering feedback 10. Reasonably comfortable driver’s seat But I can also see some things that I definitely don't like: 1. Low-slung chassis makes it (REALLY) difficult to enter and exit 2. No memory function for driver’s seat (meaning that wife & I won't swap driving for this one much) 3. Back-up beepers are extra - A LOT extra 4. Side-look backup radar either isn't on mine, or it isn't working (TBD) 5. Automatic rear braking is unavailable at any price (and I REALLY wanted this) 6. Navigation is unavailable on this model at any price, but at least it has Apple CarPlay 7. Full-stop-and-go adaptive cruise is unavailable at any price 8. Online prices for dealer-installed options don’t include labor (or else my dealer is ripping me off) 9. Blind-spot warning beepers aren’t loud enough (This is a SERIOUS safety issue) 10. Rear-view mirror is too narrow and restricts rear views 11. Only two cupholders (really? Really?) 12. Power sunroof whether you want one or not 13. Still too much black in the cabin (makes the car way too hot when parked in the sun) 14. Lingering feeling that I paid too much 15. Any car that lacks navigation should at least include a cell-phone holder - this one doesn’t 16. Weather-Tech floor-liners should have been included as a factory option So my conclusions are that Honda is unfortunately stuck in the old-school model of "if you want that safety feature, then you have to move two trim lines up and pay for a load of luxury features that you don't want." This should be criminal. Consumers should be able to buy EVERY safety feature offered by the manufacturer on EVERY trim line. So if you want safety features in a base trim line, don't buy Honda. Honda has ignored ergonomics in the 2019 Accord (and in our 2018 Odyssey). They did MUCH better a decade ago. I don't know why they abandoned their excellent ergonomics, but they're terrible now. If you're looking for good ergonomics, don't buy Honda. So why am I giving this car a three-star review? Because anything I can do to reduce carbon emissions is a good thing. I'm not willing to go all-electric yet due to concerns about range reduction as the batteries age, but I'll put up with Honda's terrible ergonomics and paltry safety features until next time. Honda - You CAN do better. Get off your duffs and do it! UPDATE - April 2020 - Although I still believe that I'd have been better off with a Prius or a Camry hybrid, my satisfaction with the Accord has grown over time. It is still a low-slung little car, but once I learned how to get in and out more gracefully, its size now bothers me less. My positive comments Nos. 1-6 and 8-10 above are still spot-on. The braking, however, (comment 7) has become a bit "grabby" over time and sometimes the car brakes more abruptly than others with the same pedal pressure. Variables affecting this seem to include the speed (more variable at lower speeds) and the amount of time since the car was last driven (this might be a "rust on the rotors" issue that diminishes with more frequent use). As to my negative comments above: 1. I've learned to enter and exit the car more easily. It's still low and hard to enter / exit (especially compared to my Odyssey van), but I can live with it. 2, 4, and 5 - This is my own fault. If I wanted memory seats (and leather), side look radar, and rear auto-braking which I did and do, I should have bought a Subaru. Mia culpa. 3. The backup beepers WERE extra, and the shop guys at my Honda dealer installed some of the sensors upside down. But they FINALLY got it right, and I'm happy with the proximity beepers (front & rear). 6. You know, I thought I'd miss the navigation feature, but the car does have "Apple Car Play," and I can use my cell phone to navigate (better, actually than the built in navigation on my Odyssey). Much better overall.

Pros: ride, sound, handling, acceleration good. Interior classy. Cons: automation poor. Innermitant radio and screen issues, vehicle has averaged 38 mpg over the last 10,000 miles. No where close to EPA estimates. $100 fee in Ohio when you get license plates for not buying enough gasoline ( which is not accurate).

Gas Mileage

You will never get the gas mileage that Honda is falsely claiming with Hybrid unless you drive like your 70 year old grand ma. On city streets with speeds below 60 mph it does a good job because you get help from the battery and save a lot of fuel by automatically switching to electric on stops and traffic lights. If your commute involves any highway that has posted speed limit above 55 you will never get 48 miles/ gallon. On the long distance interstate trips , it gets even horrible, the miles/gallon never goes above 35. Last weekend drove through the snow storm in Chicago and it dropped to 28 miles/gallon. I am regretting for trading my Dodge Charger with this one. It was giving better mileage on the highway even with V6 and AWD. So basically it helps only when you don't need the power like on the stop signs and traffic lights. whenever you need power to cruise at highway speed it is even worst than V6.

It has really bad mileage, worst bluetooth attachment, it doesn't show speed numbers in miles on speedometer, steering is too heavy. I have other cars too but biggest mistake was buying this car. DON’T BUY THIS CAR.

This is my second Accord. We still have the first one that’s nineteen years old. This new Accord is awesome, I have had this car three years. I’m getting an average of 48.5 miles to the gallon in the summer months I have gotten into the high 60’s. The car has a great ride and all the bells and whistles are great.

I couldn't be happier with the car, but there are a couple of odd things: 1) No spare tire. I'm going to fix that on my own, but I shouldn't have to. The car should just come with a spare. No ifs, ands, or buts. 2) No light in the glove box. By the time all was said and done, my cost on this vehicle was close to $40k. For a car in that price range, there should be at least a simple light in the glove box. 3) Rear seat USB ports. Ditto from number 2. 4) The lane keep assist is just annoying. I think I'm going to end up turning it off. Otherwise the car if packed with value and nice/thoughtful touches. It's fun to drive, and really does get the MPG from the window sticker. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this car to anyone. It would have been nice if there was a comparable plugin option (the Clarity is the closest that there is, but it's not really comparable.)

It has plenty of safety features, also there is a ventilation system for the battery in the back seat that makes some white noise effect. I love the Heads Up Display (HUD) that helps keeping my eyes on the road. Looking forward to driving this vehicle for the next 5 to 8 years. The miles per gallon I've got it's around 43 to 46 driving mostly in highways, when in the city it increases to 45 to 49. I just need to get used to be gentle with the gas pedal in order to take the moat advantage of the electric motor.
