2024 GMC Terrain Consumer Reviews

beautiful car
Great styling, very adequate features, and ride. Not like some reviews, not sure what they are comparing to. Bought the 2023 Denali for my wife and she loves it. Some say the powertrain is weak, but I feel it is very well-suited for the size of the car. Comfortable for my 300 lbs and 6'1'', with loads of room for anything in the back. Very happy with only one slight complaint.....road noise from rear tires is a bit loud, could use some deadening foam?

10 hour road trip worthy!
Bought mine in Georgia and drove it home to Louisiana!!! 10 hour trip and when I got home there was no discomfort or pain in my back and legs which is highly unusual for me. Nice ride and great handling. When I stuck my foot it in there was no hesitation whatsoever. Would highly recommend to anyone.

I'm sold
I'm fascinated by the so called professional reviewers and how they evaluate vehicles. I love my terrain. Lots of reasons. The "pros" say it has a weak engine. Yea, I guess so, if your goal is to win a drag race. Most people don't care about that. It has plenty of power...more than the 175 h.p. number would indicate. Soft ride was another negative comment. Again, if you plan want to corner with with the guy next door who has a corvette. I like a soft ride. And by the way, I don't think it's so soft anyhow. My terrain has lots of little things that make it special. Cup holders that sit left and right instead of front to back. Now my wife and I don't have to guess who's drink in in which spot. Hands free liftgate when your hands are full. Heated seats that heat up quickly and can be set to level 3, which is warmer than most. 3 years of onstar came with the purchase. The sticker price is on the high side, but I got a great discount and was very happy. Take that, professional reviewers.

Edmunds needs to do better
I was shocked when reading the reviews before I bought this car. Edmunds ranked is extremely low. I've had this car for 2 months and put 3100 miles on it. Here are my pros and cons. Pros: good acceleration from such a small engine, quiet cabin, comfortable seats, easy to use infotainment/Apple CarPlay, smooth ride (even with 19" wheels), optional heated seats on SLE trim give you multiple options (low, medium, high, can do back only if you want heat on just your back) Good price. My dealer had several discounts on this SUV. Cons: rear visibility, extreme wind noise (I do live in Oklahoma, so driving on freeways I might hear more wind noise than other owners in other areas), occasional creak/noise from dash.

I love the look of it, it drives great, and the extras it came with. I do to like the “Exceed Speed Limit” warning, although it is helpful it is also annoying.

Terrain AT-4 Sharp!!!!!!
I bought my 2023 Terrain in October 2022. I had to stop at my dealership and my lease was just about up and I was researching the Terrains, because I really liked the looks of them. they had just got some in and one really caught my eye and a little while later I was driving it home. It is loaded, sunroof, heated steering wheel and little touches that I just love, and the black out wheels!!!! I have not one complaint on it and the 1.5 Turbo engine is peppy. I am a older senior citizen and my Terrain AT-4 makes me feel young again!!!!!

2023 Denali looks great
Purchased new 2023 great for about month and then begin to have rattling in the dash and driver's door. Put in the shop twice and was told by two of the service staff "it is a terrain" So they sell something they know has issues and do not disclose this before the purchase. It's back in the shop for the third time. It is under warranty but has under 10,000 miles on it. I bought new so I could drive it, not to have it in the shop more than I drive it.

Electrical Problems Brand New With ONLY 100kms!!
I literally just bought a brand new SLE floor model right off the lot with only 70kms. Drove it home from the dealership 30kms away, and when I started it back up to take it for a spin, my screen is stuck on the backup camera when driving, and the radio won't shut off after I've turned the vehicle off! Have to take it back to the dealership in the morning now, and hope the issue will be fixed and hope it's not a reoccurring problem. Worst experience ever and already regret buying brand new. **Edit: Service at dealership said the issue was caused because the computer system was updating. Still not impressed, however hopefully this is true and there is nothing wrong with the electrical.

2023 GMC terrain denali radio is garbage
I have owned my brand new 2023 denali terrain for 6 weeks now and the radio/sound system has only functioned properly for 1 day (the first day). I've had in in the shop a couple of times and been told that it is awaiting a software update and there's nothing that can be done. this is unacceptable for a brand new car. I was also told that this is a 'known GM issue' which should have been disclosed at the time of purchase.
Great car overall!
Love all the features but would love a bigger engine the turbo on the smaller engine just isn’t quite enough. Also I think the Denali should automatically come with the bigger engine, video mirror and automatic surround camera turn on when paring or moving under 5 miles per hour.

Great 2023 Gmc Terrain
I just picked up my new 2023 Gmc Terrain. I love the sleek look and smooth drive. Lots of bells and whistles as well as some modern new safety features. Really need the all wheel drive and like how easy it is to switch from 2Wd to 4 Ed.

2024 GMC Terrain
I purchased a new 2024 Terrain leaving the dealership with 21 miles on 2/4/24 and then on 2/16/24 my Terrain transmission went out leaving us stranded in a parking lot. As on today 2/23/24 parts are on back order and we don’t have an estimated time when parts will be in. The dealership has told me this can take over a month all depending on the manufacturer. Carless in Phx Az with a rental until further notice.

Pretty good for the money.
Overall the terrain is very nice and has all kinds of features. My personal favorite is the memory seats on the SLT trim level. I also really like the gear shift, it's nice having the extra space near the middle concel instead of a large shifter. The tail gate needs a little work for the hands free function,it works but takes a few seconds. The leather seats are a nice touch as well as the leather wrapped steering wheel. The heated seats and heated steering wheel are great features. The not so great stuff is the leg room and cargo space they are adequate but seem smaller and more cramped to me than the equinox. Overall very happy with the suv.

Luxury, safety, and a solid, sporty ride.
I recently purchased a stunning white-on-white GMC Terrain Denali, and I couldn't be more thrilled with my choice. This vehicle truly excels in every aspect of comfort and safety. The interior is incredibly plush, offering a smooth and enjoyable ride. The comfort features, especially the heated and ventilated seats, are outstanding, making long drives a pleasure. The safety features of the GMC Terrain Denali are second to none. The 360-degree camera system provides unparalleled visibility, ensuring that I am aware of my surroundings at all times. The voice control navigation is both intuitive and reliable, making it easy to stay on course without taking my hands off the wheel. These features and many others contribute to a sense of confidence and security while driving. The only downside is that the side mirrors do not automatically turn inward when the car is in the park or if one is going through a car wash, which is odd when one thinks the car is self-parking and loaded with other features. One of the standout aspects is the surround sound stereo system, which delivers crisp and immersive audio quality. The air conditioning system is top-notch, providing consistent and effective cooling, even on the hottest days. Additionally, the self-parking feature is a huge advantage, making parking in tight spots effortless and stress-free. The exterior style of the GMC Terrain Denali is impressive as well, with sleek lines and a commanding presence on the road. It is evident that great attention to detail was given to both the interior and exterior design. I also want to give a shout-out to my dealer. The personnel were exceptionally professional, cordial, and knowledgeable. Their assistance made the purchasing process smooth and enjoyable. Overall, I highly recommend the GMC Terrain Denali to anyone looking for a vehicle that combines luxury, safety, and advanced features. For a man in his seventies like myself, not looking to go off-road but seeking luxury, safety, and a sporty ride, this vehicle is the perfect choice.

Great car for around town and weekend trips.
Really like the feel and handling of the car. Easy to get in and out of the vehicle. Seat adjustment is perfect. Haven’t tested out all the tech features yet, but the car anticipates all things around me and warns me of them.

I think I bought a lemon
I bought the 2023 terrain in January of this year. It has been good on gas but other than that I'm not impressed. The car is noisy. The service ESC message has turned on as well as the service engine light. First and last time buying a GMC. I'm getting ready to retire soon and this WAS to be the vehicle to keep for a long time.

Perfect sized, practical, entry luxury SUV!
Bought a new 2023 GMC Terrain Denali AWD SUV last summer & absolutely love this vehicle. As the Denali trim, it IS entry level luxury. My Denali is summit white w/ the light platinum perforated leather interior. Sharp color combination & keeps me cool during the hot summers here in the south. Speaking of keeping cool, the Terrain sure does have a strong AC! The Terrain is not a Jeep for off roading, but on forest trails and inclement weather, the AWD sure provides a significant increase in traction & safety. The Denali comes standard w/ the Bose upgraded sound system which is quite good. Love the wireless Apple Car Play & tech features. Safety features abound in this little SUV. The hatch area is more then enough for when my wife & I travel. A neat feature is that there are like three levels for cargo. Bottom level is the spare tire, mid level is a large covered compartment, and the main level is for the majority of your cargo. Very practical. PROS: Lots of cubbys throughout the vehicle to store items like sunglasses, tissues, etc Very strong A/C, heated seats & steering wheel Strong, good sound system Very practical for carrying both people & cargo Nice sharp style Strong headlights + foglights Decent gas mileage (averaging ~26-27mpg overall) CONS: engine is a bit weak when tasked w/ overtaking some hard plastic trim like on the A-pillar which rattles sometimes (inconsistent) only the drivers PW is Auto Up/Down (most entry level luxury cars have all 4 PW Auto up/Down) Overall, I'm exceptionally glad that I bought this vehicle & plan to keep it for many years. Even though the engine is a bit weak at higher speeds, around town w/ the 9 speed automatic, it does just fine. And the Terrain Denali is actually FUN to drive!!

"cheap" vehicle as quoted by dealership after alre
Car constantly has a vibration and dealer just says that's how Terrains are and front doors have sharp corners. My mom and her neighbor have both been cut by the doors. GM keeps saying that they are going to help but months later my mom has a vibrating new car that makes her feet and hands go numb from the vibration and she is now nursing a wound from the door.
Love the look but hate the many fuel stops!
I fell in love with the look from the outside. I did my research, but what they don’t tell you is what go me. I have 5k mi on my new 23 Terrain and I have averaged 24 mpg with the majority of my driving on hwy. I traded my Acura MDX with a 3.5 V6 for this and I am getting the same mpg with a vehicle thats 1/2 the size and 1/2 the power (shows you comparison for same areas and the way I drove before and after) I used to stop 1x a week for gas and 4x is not out of the ordinary since I got the Terrain. Size of the tank does not support mpg, the true mpg. I am an aggressive driver and I am always in a hurry, but I am not peeling out or racing every where I go. I shouldn’t have to drive like a grandma to get “average mpg” that a vehicle is rated for. The 23 is a slightly Different engine than the previous year models. Please separate the ratings and comments. They should not be lumped together. Very frustrated buyer and frustrated researcher bec everything is grouped with past year models!

Looks good but woeful engine
The SLT has all the equipment you really need, it's reasonably good looking but the engine although quiet is very underpowered, the transmission needs to change 2 or 3 ratios each time you put your foot down. It will accelerate but it's not a nice experience.

Great Value and nice to drive
Just got my 2024 GMC Terrain SLT a couple of weeks ago. Got all the safety packages. Love how it drives, seats are comfortable on long drives, stereo with Bose system is great sounding. Only complaint is that it does take a bit to get to freeway speeds, but once you get there, no trouble maintaing speed.

Garbage. Absolutely garbage.
The size of it is the only good thing about this vehicle. Screen intermittently flashes a green or pink screen of death - dealer replaced backup camera but did not fix the issue and don’t know what else to try. The chrome on the front peeled off - fixed under warranty and no issues since. The blower fan makes a terrible noise when on max. The biggest issues are that it is not made for winter. Four times this winter I have had to take it in for an entire day service because the check engine light comes on with “reduced engine power” on the screen, GMC’s fix was a bra for the grille but it hasn’t helped at all. The service involved taking the entire front end apart to drain the frozen intercooler for the turbo. I know 3 people with 2021-2024 terrains that all have the same issue. Also the transmission skips in 1st to 2nd gear when it’s cold out even after being warmed up the vehicle for 20 minutes before leaving. 60,000 kms and traded it in yesterday.
At4 terrain
Bought 2023 at4 blacked out terrain and I love it...the best car I ever had...so far not a single complaint...in reviews I see people like the rate the equinox better and let me tell you after 2 new equinox purchases and the engines having problems so fast I'd recommend terrain over it anyday....

Unbearable road noise
The good: The car handles well. The tiny engine really is enough with it's 9 speed transmission. It is equipped with a lot of safety features. The Bad: Road noise will drive you crazy. Worst GMC I have ever owned.

I do not recommend this Small SUV
Most Honest Review on GMC Terrain AT4 As a GMC Terrain owner of 7 months, I cannot tell you how much I hate the fact that I purchased my Terrain AT4. It should be called a hatchback sedan, not a SUV. Below is my review of the CONS and Pros of this GMC Terrain. CONS MPG for 17500 miles is - 26mpg A roof rack for a vehicle that cannot go off-road does not make sense. Of course, I was charged for all the additional items the dealer put on this non-SUV. Gas tank range - 380 miles, if you are lucky, 387 miles Driving - uneven roads, speed bumps, gravel roads, and dirt roads must be avoided as much as possible while driving this GMC vehicle. This vehicle does not deserve the AT4 tag; if you are a disabled veteran like myself and have chronic pain in your back and legs, driving this vehicle outdoors or off the paved roads will physically hurt you. Towing - GMC mechanics would have to cut the bumper to add a tow bar; installing this system is very expensive. There are almost no accessories or upgraded parts available for this vehicle. Cargo space is horrible - I cannot fit my wheelchair in this vehicle without folding down all the back seats. Heaven forbid I have to take anyone else with me other than my family. No in-cabin air filter - I did not expect this in a non-base model. Does not fit the outdoor lifestyle. Lacks power and responsiveness To make this vehicle off-road worthy would be extremely costly and aggravating. PROS Comfort - the seats are nice, but that is it. The camera system The backing system The safety features

edmunds is lost in this one
My sister has a Equinox 23 and I have a terrain 2023 is the same thing (in my opinion because I am big guy the gmc seat is more comfort that Equinox) same acceleration same features basically I took the terrain because the style in the front and because I really like that the transmission shift is by bottoms so more space . Not sure why the twin has more rating that this one because again I can compare both models and basically is the same except in seats or style .

GMC terrain denali
I had brand new gmc terrain denali for about five months but sold it after struggling with it all that time. It has small and uncomfortable seats, engine is weak and absolutely crap, every electronic use could be heard from the relays in the back from the trunk. It it crazy expensive for this type of vehicle. I should have done better resurch before buying it. I also lost about 32% what I spent on it when I sold it.

Rear seat road noise
The terrain is good accept for road noise, Traded 2012 Terrain that had less road noise. It’s bad in the rear of the car. Looking for some way to solve it.
Quite problematic
I've had a 2024 Terrain for about 8 months now. The transmission went out at 1464 miles and had to be replaced. Yesterday coming home from work, the car died at a red light and wouldn't start or even allow me to put it into neutral so I could get it pushed off the busy arterial. So I waited for about an hour for a tow truck. The car has 2024 miles on it now and has been in the shop over 3 weeks already. I'm waiting for the diagnosis now. To add to this, the dealer told me he can't give me a loaner since they are all out due to so many cars in their service lot waiting for engines and transmissions. Based on my personal experience I would stay away from any GMC product for at least another year or two. Hopefully they will figure out the problems and get them fixed.
I love this car!
This was my first GMC. As a car enthusiast since before I could drive, I’ve enjoyed my vehicles over the years by various auto makers. Let’s say I’ll be a GMC buyer for years to come. Love the simplicity of the ergonomics and this car feels like a luxury automobile. I feel safe especially when on the highway which is primarily our commute as we live rural. So enjoy this car. Thank you GMC. I’ll be back.

Visibility is awful
I purchased a 2024 Terrain Denali and traded it in after 390 miles. The blind spots in front were horrible. I’m 5’ so position of the seat put me right in line of the side mirrors and door jam blocking visibility of oncoming traffic and pedestrians. I wasn’t comfortable driving it in school zones to pick up my grandson either. The road noise is pretty bad as well. Yes, clearly issues that should have been noticed while test driving. Also, my average gas mileage was 17mpg. I know there’s a breaking in period but don’t think it would have ever gained the 10 more mpg to reach the estimated 27 as stated on window sticker.
