Transmission nightmare

We purchased a 2023 GMC Sierra Denali recently and have been experiencing a shudder and shaking when driving since day one. We took it to the dealer to have it checked out. The service manager acknowledged the shudder and told us that it was in an acceptable range and that GMC has bad transmissions. When talking with the sales staff and sales manager, they also indicated that many people have had the same complaints. The sales manager took my information and told me he would check into things and get back to me. That was almost a month ago and still no call. I have since talked to my sales person and she also told me that she would get back to me. That has been several weeks now. I didn’t expect when paying $75,000 for a new truck that we would feel like we are driving down a cobblestone road. Very disappointed. No calls, no response. Don’t NOT buy a GMC!

Why has GM become so cheap.

I just recently bought a 2023 GMC Sierra. I have driven GM vehicles all of my life and this is actually the third new truck I've bought since 2018 and several before that. I have always liked them and was always happy with the way that GM did business until now. To my surprise they don't include an Owners manual or maintenance manual with a truck that you paid $63,000 for. As I contacted them about this I learned that I could purchase one for $50. I could understand it if you lost it or bought a used one and it didn't have one in it. I just think it's pretty cheap not to provide one with a $63,000 vehicle. It makes me wonder where else they are cutting corners. The next time I trade, I will look at other brands.

2023 1500 Duramax. Towed to dealer twice.

The fit and finish is good, fuel mileage is good, but had DEF sensor failure within the first week of ownership, towed to dealer. Two days ago left stranded in the bush, with full shut down while driving and no restart, the truck has 3000 kms on it. Had to hike out 10 kms to get signal to get a pick up. Will be without a truck again. Complete bullsh*t that a brand new truck has full failures like this. When talking with GMC Roadside assistance, huge hassle to get the truck recovered. I have owned a 2019 1500, 2021 3500 and now this lump. Will never buy a GMC again. I know Dodge and Ford are no better, but sick of issues with brand new trucks.

As a former RAM owner (since 1991) I would like to offer the following comparisons. The GMC has a better feel when driving. The RAM with Hemi has more horsepower but the GMC is no slouch with the 5.3 engine. The GMC SLT trim looks to be more luxurious than the RAM Laramie trim. Gas mileage is slightly better on the GMC. So far I am well pleased with the GMC.

I purchased this vehicle because it was announced it comes STANDARD with Blind Spot Detection and rear cross path detection. I was very unhappy when I drove of the lot and realized it was not there without any disclosure. The dealer told me GM decided not to add the feature and nobody seems to care. Yes on my window sticker I had a disclosure and a credit for the missing steering wheel lock??

After being a FORD guy for over 35 years, I decided to give GMC a try :/ I drive out with the brand new AT4 on thursday evening, after just 40 miles I wake up in the morning to find a big puddle of trans oil on my driveway. I call the salesman and drive it to the dealership, on the way there almost complete shutdown, engine over heat is on, A/C out!! Engine noise!!, get to the dealership wanting to talk to the manger, to no avail! Salesman and service tech tell me theres nothing to do but put it in to service. Absolutely displeased and irritated with GM dealership,..DO NOT BUY GMC! does Lemon Law apply here?

The truck is OK, but one of the features that i really wanted was wireless android auto. It does have it, but only for the first month. Then they make you buy a $50 per month plan to keep it. Not only that but they sell the service through a shady third party (onstar). I had to block their number because they will call nonstop untill you sign up. I feel ripped off on my $70k truck.

After owning for pick up trucks for most of my life, I’ve decided to buy this GMC 1500 Sierra Denali had a beautiful interior and a lot of things to help my handicap that Ford didn’t have. After spending almost $80,000 it is the biggest lemon I have a Hundred plus videos on my phone showing the dealer the issues all they get is it software problems or we can’t duplicate the problems GPS does not work all the time radio does not work all the time. Breaking system doesn’t work properly when driving and coasting and you let your foot off the accelerator Breaks slam on when there’s absolutely no cars near you and you just want to coast up to a light other issues

Six month review

2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation 4dr Crew Cab 4WD 5.8 ft. SB (2.7L 4cyl Turbo 8A)

2023 Sierra Elevation Crew Cab 4WD 5.3l V8. I bought the Sierra to replace my 2003 Silverado which had been the best vehicle I'd ever owned so I had high expectations. Overall, I really like the GMC and appreciate the comfort features. I'll list some of my positives and negatives but most of the negatives are very minor so judge for yourself. Hopefully, this helps you. Positives: Very smooth and quiet ride. Decent mileage (~20mpg highway, 5.3l V8). Excellent trailering app and brake controller. Plenty of cargo loops (12x). Bumper step is nice. No gas cap is cool. Truck looks great. Love the Titanium Rush color. Negatives: Auto-stop was annoying so I installed an auto-stop eliminator. Fog lights are very weak. Climate controls are hard to use as the buttons are small and you can't really tell what the setting is until you press a button. The dashboard vents blow directly at your face regardless of which way the vanes are aimed. The fan is quite loud above the lowest speed setting. The seats aren't very comfortable so I added a seat pad that also helps me see over the high hood line (I'm 5'10"). The radio changes volume randomly. Side-exit exhaust would be better so as to not fill the garage with exhaust or blow at me while I hook up the trailer. Final words: Overall, the truck is great. If you test drive one, be sure to drive the 3.7l diesel. I was very impressed but stuck with the 5.3l gas because I liked it so much in my old Silverado.

The tailgate button is in a terrible spot, and can be pushed easily. And apparently it can open while on the highway. We lost $2500 of ski boots, skates and helmets because of this, it opened while on the highway. As well as this vehicle has broken down multiple times at this point, despite being new.

The truck looks great, It drove great for 20,000 kms. Valve body went and has been sitting for 2 months waiting for parts that GM doesn't care if you get it or not. This is a very common issue that GM knows about but continues to use sub-standard parts and doesn't feel the need to correct the issue. They tell you parts are back ordered but they continue to build trucks every day with the parts needed to repair the vast number of trucks that are affected by this issue. t The Dealership has been great and I think they are embarrassed by the total lack of support by GM Canada. So if you want to waste a $100,000.00 by a GM.

bought a 2024 sierra crew cab 4 wheel drive. found out later that unless you pay for onstar you don't get that nice big navigation map. you have to use your phone, if you have a smart phone, and you only get half of the screen. if you don't have your phone with you you or onstar you don't get any maps at all for that nice big screen. be aware that you buy a truck with a about a $40 a month bill for onstar if you want your navigation maps, or you better have a smart phone with you if you want any maps at all. This experience left a bitter taste about GM for me. I have bought GM my entire life but now I think i will be looking at other brands

2023 Sierra Elevation Got the 4cyl 2.7 turbo not really recommended for towing , that's ok cause I don't plan to tow anything anyway but they had to include a $350 trailer brake controller. The there is that Bull Sh-- 3 part not easy to fold down tailgate... the designer of that should get a slap up the side of the head... and last but not least $70,000 for a new truck but no Owners manual ... they say, get an up to date smartphone and download the App for it... really ? GM you SUCK ! Update: Salesman negotiated with head of sales and finally got me the Owners' manual.

Denali Ultimate is pricey, but worth it.

2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate 4dr Crew Cab 4WD 5.8 ft. SB (6.2L 8cyl 10A)
3 of 3 people found this review helpful

The Denali Ultimate is on a whole different level from all of the other trims. It may not seem that significant on paper, but in person, it effectively turns it into a proper luxury truck. The seats are considerably more comfortable, lots more adjustments, massage, and you get real leather. Looks, feels, and smells like a high end BMW. The stereo upgrade isn't just more speakers. The sound quality is night and day. Improved sound stage, lows, highs, etc. The interior is even quieter. Add this the overall appearance upgrades like unique grill, wheels, suede headliner, nice wood/metallic trim pieces, every option box checked (sunroof, HUD, carbon pro bed, power running boards, etc), and it's easy to justify the higher price. While I would lean toward the 3.0 Diesel for it's fuel economy and torque, it's hard to pass up the quick and great sounding 6.2l V8. It's certainly not cheap, but if you value proper luxury and can afford it, the Denali Ultimate is absolutely worth it.

My husband and I are been looking for a truck for months to tow our new trailer. We’ve done a lot of comparable and research between GMC, CHEVROLET, RAM, TOYOTA TUNDRA, FORD. We’ve watched a lot of youtube videos for great reviews about all the trucks I mentioned. Towing power is a must for us. So after months of research GMC stands out the best for us. We are thrilled of our brand new Truck, everything we need and looking for our truck has it. We are completely satisfied all and all. V8, 4x4, towing package, high towing capacity, slick smooth sailing engine.

Don't buy the diesel, nothing but problems. Had for four months and was in service department six time. Inaccurate low DEF warnings and check engine lights. Multiple electronics needed constant "software updates". Dealer would not address the bad DEF sensor and tank replacement needed. Everything from phantom pedestrians showing on back-up sensors and then slamming on brakes to going into limp mode. Could not safely take on any sort of road trip. Chugged down DEF fluid like cheap champagne on prom night. Service advisor said, "Oh, it will get better at 15-20k miles".. this only a 2-year lease! Service advisor went as far as advising, "I suggest you get another vehicle.". GM put up no contest and got full buy-back + attorney fees. Run from the baby Duramax! Never had any problems with the big HD Duramax's in the past. The lil' diesel engine sucks. I think GM is in real trouble. No longer a future customer of GM. The dealership's lot was loaded with buy-backs cars and trucks btw... not good.

Bought a brand new 2024 gmc sierra 1500 in April. It’s September, and since August 18th, I have not had my truck. After its first oil change at 5500 miles, my truck has not been able to shift out of first gear. The tcm went out and it’s back ordered with no estimated delivery date. Very disappointed. Probably my last GM vehicle.

Bought a new Sierra 1500 Denali… Bought a new Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate just over a year ago. 3200 miles into it engine went. In the shop for a month. It went back into the shop approximately 6 months later fo two recalls and needs to go back and in for some odd behavior with the transmission. Funny sound and showed it was in ‘off-road’ mode no matter what I did. That has now gone away but who knows? A little of my history before I continue, my father retired from GM Manufacturing, my stepfather, mother and most of my family worked for GM for many years in and around Saginaw, MI. So we have always been GM people. Bottom line, never again. Not only did GMC not buy back this lemon, they really refused to do anything other than do the repairs. Looks great, great bells and whistles, nice to interior. Piece of crap that the company will not acknowledge. I will be a Ford buyer from here on out, even though I can buy GM through the family plan. Thoroughly disappointed in what has become of this once great company. All I can say is if you still choose to buy one of these vehicles, know your on your own. Gene PS: ignore trim details below. Did not have mine but will not let me change. Purchased at the end of 2022, I've owned the GMC Sierra 1500 Denali AWD Short Box for roughly 3000 miles now (3 months) and have thoroughly enjoyed the mix of ride comfort and utility. I've had no issues with the truck albeit for a DTRL recall. The truck has broken in well and shows no signs of pre-mature degradation. Provided are the top 3 likes and dislikes of the truck thus far: Likes: 1. Exterior Styling - Receiving weekly comments from strangers on the looks. 2. Interior Quality - Premium materials abound; a dramatic step up from previous generation. 3. Tailgate Utility - The Multi-Pro tailgate is surprisingly useful. Dislikes 1. Steering Wheel Thickness - Oddly thin steering wheel for a half-ton pick-up. 2. Infotainment Lag - Seems to still be under development with OTA updates. 3. No Standard Adaptive Cruise - A 20k Toyota comes with this, why the additional cost?

So far I haven’t had any problems with my new truck. I got 5.3 engine because that what I had in my old truck that had over 300K . Runs great and takes regular gasoline. So far the gas mileage is around 20 miles per gallon. That’s including short trips to the dump and around home .

$63,000. Assumed our 4x4 purchase had a LOW range, as have all 4x4 vehicles I’ve ever owned….Nope. Have to get off road package for that! Was never mentioned during purchase. Didn’t know I had to ask! As others have mentioned, there is no owner’s manual. Also no 12 volt outlet of any kind!?! If you were expecting an integrated garage door/ gate opener, as on every and any other vehicle we have purchased over $30K in the last 10 years, forget about it. Must of been in some $5000 package not included. Personally like the ride and steering of this truck verse Ford and Ram. Didn’t consider Toyota or Nissan. Will try those as well next truck purchase, read that they include a low range in ALL of their 4x4 vehicles.

Visibility is the issue both front and rear. Forward you cannot see the end of the hood due to the tappers slope. Backing up is just as bad due to the tapered mirror ,instead of being straight across the bottom and it deceiving reversing looking in the mirror due to the box tappers in length ways giving a false impression where the back of the box or tailgate is .

The Regular Cab and 8' Box make this a real pickup that is fun to drive. This is my third pickup and it is well equipped for a "work truck." There is an occasional sound behind the instrument panel that I hope gets eliminated on my first scheduled service. Truck has 5.3 Liter V8.

2023 SLT Sierra 4x4 with X31 package is a great truck! Beautiful design, lots of comments. Ride is great, seats are comfortable. Love the new 13” infotainment screen. 5.3L engine has plenty of power and!10 speed automatic is smooth. Gas milage as advertised, can get 20 MPG driving speed limit on highway. 20” Bridgestone tires look great. Sterling metallic color looks great. No issues to date, just a great truck for work and play.

This is this best truck I have ever owned. The main reason I needed this truck was for the pulling torque, and it has not disappointed. It's a beautiful machine!

2023 GMC Sierra Elevation

In July 2023 I bought the 2023 Sierra Elevation because I totaled my 2021 F150 Hybrid. Needed a tow vehicle quick. It's a beautiful truck and I towed with it once without any issues. It has plenty of power with its 5.3L V8 engine. It also rides nice. But if I had to do it again I wouldn't buy it. I bought it as a tow vehicle and thought it had a 9500 lb towing capacity, but found out afterward its only 9300 lb towing capacity. After buying it GM would not sell me towing mirrors even though you can order the truck with them. Ended up buying Boost towing mirrors which aren't as good as GMC's towing mirrors.Went to plug in my trailer backup camera. It doesn't have a cigarette lighter plug. Had to buy a USB adapter to cigarette lighter plug. But how long will a $6. adapter last. The gas tank is too small and should be bigger for a truck with the towing package. It didn't have a break controller so the dealer installed a Curt Spectrum break controller, which is to complicated for me.The thing that really gets me is it is terrible on gas. Especially during the winter. The Automatic emergency breaking is useless, it won't stop the truck if someone stops in front of you.I won"t trust my life on it, it's only a warning light on the dash. When I first bought the truck the radio would go dead for no reason, but would work the next day. That has went away. For a $58,690. truck it's disappointing how little GM equips them with, especially for safety. My Wife $38,000. Kia Sportage has more equipment and will stop you on a dime if someone stops dead in front of you.The one thing I will say is I haven't had a recalls like I had on the F150 or things going wrong. I think I'm going to go back to a F150 Hybrid. Won't buy another GM vehicle, especially they refuse to make a hybrid.

Purchased in May 2024. Sierra 1500 SLT Trim with the X-31 off road and 5.3 V-8. So far awesome. I was a little afraid I was going to lose some of the comforts of my Yukon but no. In fact picked up some options that I would have like to have on my Yukon like electric folding mirrors. I have never had a pickup before and I can tell you I will not buy anything else again as a daily driver. The SLT package is just enough. A little better than the Elevation as I drove both before making a decision. I also drove an AT4 but that was a little out of the budget. This truck has been great and I absolutely love doing business with T and T Coast in Sea Girt, NJ. This is the 4th truck I have bought there and am always treated great. No games. The only disappointment is at the time I bought it there were not many different colors available. With that combination of trim and engine you got either black or white. I wound up with a black one. Looks and drives great. Infotainment is fine enough. I know there a lot of people who bang on GM for the lack of tech for that but it's sufficient for most people. 5 out of 5 for me. Until of course the lifters go bad.

Absolutely love this truck! 2nd Sierra Denali with the Baby Max and it drives and rides amazing! Extremely comfortable and the Pro tailgate is extremely useful. Opted for the regular bed instead of the short box and you do not feel any difference when driving. Extra room will come in handy for camping trips. Comfort features work amazing, like the remote start and heated or cooled seats ready when you get in. Truck doesn’t turn off when you open the door. Had a short stint with a Tundra and it turning off when opening the door drove me nuts. Overall, if you want something luxurious with the capabilities of a truck, Sierra is my recommendation.

My last four trucks were Toyota Tundras. The newest a 2023. Lemons can be had anywhere and from any make including Toyota, I have experienced that with my 2023 Tundra! I traded for a new 2023 Sierra SLT with the 5.3 V8. After 22,000 miles I’m very happy with it. The V8 isn’t as snappy as the turbo V6 Toyota, BUT it’s also averaging over 20 mpg VS the Tundras 14 mpg. Dare I say the GMC has also been 100% more reliable than the Tundra. The tech works very well and the truck feels well built. Plan to keep this one 7-8 years so I’ll update as I go. So far I really like this thing!

This is a prime example of internship, where someones big new idea was to remove the old school cigarette lighter port? But failed to realize that every single pro gps, dash cam, tool inverters despite having 1 out let will barely enough power to run a drill, air compressor pumps, and just about every single on the road vehicle electronic component uses the "cigarette" lighter outlets. WTF there isn't even an adapter for that! Now what all my tools are reserved useless or pay a lot of $ to have 1 installed! Smh

Best half ton pickup on the market

I have owned and driven many different half ton pickups over the last 50 years both for pleasure and as a Federal Ranger on and off road. I recently purchased a 2024 GMC 1500 Denali with the 3.0 Duramax. This truck is by far the best one I have ever owned or used. The fit and finish is outstanding plus the gas mileage and towing ratings outrank all the competition this year. I'm getting 32mpg on the highway with this truck plus it pulls my 25ft camper and horse trailer with ease with it's 13300 pound towing capacity. 495 pound torque also helps. My short wife loves the retractable running boards and I love the tailgate that folds down making ingress and egress to the bed very easy. Glad I waited for the 2024 3.0 Duramax with it's steel pistons, higher HP, improved fuel pump and higher tow rating. Bought extended warranty so any major repairs if any will be covered. This truck rides as well as our Cadillac Escalade with better gas mileage. No complaints. Sorry this review didn't allow me to list the Denali truck with the 3.0 litre engine.

as the title says, the truck is great overall. love the 5.3 v8, trans, ride and handling with x31 package. have the elevation package for all the nice creature comforts. zero problems in 20k miles. after having for 2 winters i curse this truck every time it snows. why? the super huge trough where the windshield wipers park fills up with inches thick of ice freezing the wipers. who is the idiot that thought this was a good idea? area is not heated at all to try to make this work. hiding the wipers isn't even going to make a one tenth of a difference in mpg so stop doing this you idiots. obviously they never lived where it snows and ice are possible. since i live where it snows, i need a tonneau cover to keep snow out of the bed. i did buy after market cover as the gm one is way overpriced and fits the same. the tailgate is shaped bowed out in the middle so the cover doesnt go out to the edge. this causes a shelf that catches snow and ice. so what happens? the tailgate freezes to the cover and you cant use the bed. tailgate doesnt have a "handle" to open, it has a electric push button switch, no leverage to pull gate open. stupid! then after not opening because it was frozen, driving down the road it opens after it broke free from the ice because you pushed the button. huge issue!!! with the x31 it has factory 20inch wheels and mud flaps. if you get a 3-4 inch fender burg on the mud flaps the tires rub every time you turn the wheels. needs more clearance Clarence. GM needs to step up their game on real world testing. this trucks sticker price is 62.5k. for this kind of money i dont expect ANY stupid issues like this. the wiper issue is as bad as 1980's dodge products. i bought a truck to use the bed and cant without a hassle. we trade in about every 5 years and have been very loyal gm customers for almost 40 years. i think in 3 more years we will be looking elsewhere if these thing have not been addressed. we buy gm because we havent had any major problems with any that we have owned. no bad engines, transmissions all the way out to 300k miles ever in over 20 vehicles. i would hate to turn my back on such great reliability but safety and useability is not to be ignored by designers. when you sell vehicles for use in all climates make sure they are safe and useable in them!
