Great car for the money. . . a classic!
This is my 3rd Ford Mustang and my 4th Ford car overall. My original Mustang was a 1966 sky blue AT. It had the V8 289 and Pony Interior. I now own the new, Vista Blue, Pony Premium car with AT and I love it. The retro exterior styling is great, and reminds me of the brand's peak in the 1960's. The V6 has great power at 210 HP -- equal to the V8, 289ci I once owned. The interior plastics and finish are much improved from 1990's Ford cars. I love the new Shaker 500 stereo system - - it rocks! So far, I have 2,000 miles on the car and I love it! For any Ford fan this new C5 generation is the one to own -- all the good looks of the older Mustang combined with a modern, 5 Speed AT!
2009 V6 Premium Pony Package 5-speed
Was looking for a sporty coupe, loved the styling of the Mustang, and found the interior roomy, I'm 6'2". Have owned 5 weeks and have logged 3000 miles. Performance is snappy, with good acceleration, and surprising handling considering the archaic suspension. Pony package has rear anti roll bar, big cornering improvement over base V6. ABS and traction control recommended. Averaging 28+ MPG in mixed driving, gets 33 on the hwy. Exterior is beautiful to my eye. Interior is also sharp, but Ford saves money on materials, lots of plastic. Leather buckets quite comfortable, but could use more side bolstering. No squeaks or rattles so far. Hard to beat for the money. A lot of car for 23k.

tired of the bad 6cyl reviews
I originally wanted to buy a Dodge Challenger the styling on those are far more superior, but with traction control and an upgraded stereo system yikes almost $25k, the Mustang has all that but was far more affordable at $17k. Ford really gives you more car for the dollar minus less hp, and the fact it has no independent rear suspension like its compettitor. Besides a slight sluggish response in overdrive i find myself only hitting the gas so often and the car smoothly driving itself. The performance is smile worthy and is far better than previous mustang 6 cyls but nothing too extreme, the car thrives on the highway, country roads and dry conditions, kinda fears backroads, rain, and snow
Pretty Money pit
I love mustangs. This is my 6th mustang and my first s197 mustang (2005-2009). I love the retro look of it. I have a v6 anniversary 2009 premium coupe. I bought it from a dealer with 69k miles on June 2024. I haven’t even had the car a year yet and I’ve already paid over $3k worth of repairs!! I don’t know why none of the other reviews are mentioning the common problems with this car! First, you may not be able to fill the car up with gas completely until the pump prematurely shuts off! It’s a common problem with this generation mustang. It will just randomly not want to fill all the way up with gas! Solution? You drive around the block and come back and finish pumping! Or maybe hold the nozzle upside down while pumping or you slowly pump or you leave and come back later to put more gas in, sometimes these tricks don’t even work. So not only does this car suck with gas mileage and you have to refill a lot, you have to do it even more because sometimes it refuses to fill up! Another thing is the door windows are frameless like all mustangs. And like any frameless window, they will get frozen shut in winter. The problem is, if you have a passenger who isn’t used to the frameless windows that automatically roll up and down and when you open/close the door and something is preventing the window from dropping, they could accidentally crack the plastic that frames the door! Guess how much that simple plastic part? $200 for the drivers side and $300 for the passenger side. So it’s best to just leave the windows cracked a little. Next, this car has problems with sharp turns. When I first got it, there was a grinding and popping sound when slowly backing out of parking spots. From researching it, it’s a common problem for these mustangs around 70k miles to need a new rack and pinion and even a new power steering pump. Cost? Around $2k. I got that fixed and yet I still hear a rubbing sound when the wheels are turned all the way. At 70k it also needed a new alternator, a new rear differential, it needed new sensors and wiring around the engine, it also needed a new battery to start in the winter even though the one it has was only a year old. The drivers seat doesn’t go up very high and is wobbly! Also if you are getting this and hoping to modify/customize it (different grille, etc) get a 2014 or s550 because the options for the s197 are slim and pathetic. The options on americanmuscle.com are overpriced with horrible reviews and very limited, boring options! And that reminds me, the stock antenna needs to constantly be retightened or replaced with a smaller antenna for $10, easy fix. I love the interior but the plastic around the auto shifter gets cracked and stuck making it hard to get from park to drive sometimes. The interior door fabric is peeling away from the door. For winter driving, putting blizzak snow tires and 250lbs of sandbags in the trunk make this car almost unstoppable in winter. Do not listen to anyone who says mustangs can’t drive in winter/snow. With winter tires (not all season) and weight, it doesn’t slip as easily and can go through thick snow, I didn’t have issues commuting in the winter. Please note the 2010 I had in winter with all season tires didn’t budge. My mustang has an aftermarket exhaust. Pypes and a cold intake that I didn’t install. It’s loud and hums in the cabin, no one else seems to notice though. No one really pays attention to my mustang which sucks. Everyone is looking at their phones and not paying attention to my car even though it’s pretty and sounds decent. So that’s discouraging if I’m being egotistical. People also do not mention that this car does not have a trunk release button inside it!! You can buy a kit and install one but this generation doesn’t come with a trunk release!! It also has no sunglasses holder anywhere. What really made me dislike this car is that I have spent so much money in repairs and have had it in the shop atleast once a month and just yesterday I was driving home and I started to hear a loud sound from the engine! I thought I had everything fixed but it’s like one thing after the other and I’m not sure I’m getting much joy out of mustangs anymore even though I love them and my entire garage is mustang themed. The car drives well, is fast, is very nice looking but I’m getting sick of taking it to the mechanic. Note, I don’t even drive that much! In 8 months or so I have only driven it maybe 2k miles so spending over $3k in repairs and having a stupid car loan on it is infuriating. I wish I had gotten another s550 because I can’t recommend a 2015+ mustang enough. This 2009 though pretty and retro looking has had too many problems and I have a larger list of dislikes about this car than likes. I am planning to pay off my loan and get a different car. Also note if you’re planning to buy this, the car isn’t worth more than 10k. I made the mistake of getting this car and getting a $15k loan and the car is only worth $4k. Not worth it. Always check KBB.
