$3,000 repair for a 2012 with 70 thousand miles
The engine completely blew on the car and had to be replaced, at a cost of $13,000. The car still had $18,000 left on the loan and was blue booked at about $21,000. Ford dealer said that since I was late on an oil change (by about 4 thousand miles), that caused the failure. They said when they went to drain the oil, it was thick and black and that is what caused the engine to fail. I said BS, the engine, in the process of failing, CAUSED the oil to become black and thick, because there is NO WAY that missing one oil change by only a few thousand miles can cause anything close to that kind of damage. Bottom line: I paid for the new engine then DUMPED (sold) the POS as fast as I could. I have had great experiences with Ford trucks going back to the 90's. I think this may have been simply a LEMON, but the dealer didn't give a crap. Believe it or not, I replaced the Flex with a 2015 F150 with ecoboost engine ... we'll see how this goes. The AWD transfer case (part of the transmission) fails on these cars! Cost $1,600 (with labor, the part is about $1000) to replace it ... that is IF they don't find other issues due to RUST on the parts that have to be removed to replace the transfer case. In my case: the right side control arm had to be replaced because they could not get the ball joint to release, so the ball joint got ruined in the process AND since Ford in its quest to save FORD money has front control arms with the ball joints built in and not replaceable means that bottom line: ball joint (a $20 part) fails, you end up buying a $200 control arm and paying $100 in labor to change it. So now we are at $1,900. Next is the passenger side turbo charger .. it is located forward and low on the engine and has no protective covering or anything to protect it from the elements, so it RUSTS - badly! It has to be disconnected to replace the transfer case. The mounting flange and bolts rust so bad that they break when attempting to remove. Now we are buying a new turbo charger at $586 plus $560 in labor! So NOW, the cost of replacing this transfer case is a whopping $3,046!! My advice: if your Flex is going over 60,000 miles GET RID OF IT!!

The perfect small family hauler
Our 2013 Ford Flex SEL with equipment group 202A has been an excellent family vehicle. Purchased used 6 years ago with about 45k miles, it now has 194k. Our unit features leather seating with middle row captain's chairs and center console. With older, tall children (2 at 6'4"), the cavernous space in the middle row was a deciding factor, as was the easy to clean leather interior and rolling comfort. The third row is spacious enough for children and small adults, even for long hauls. Its split seat configuration allows for seating for 1 plus additional storage if needed, which sometimes we used for our 90 pound doodle. With the third row seats up, there is ample storage in the deep well at the rear. The factory tow hitch provided additional options for tow hitch storage and light towing, both of which we have done on numerous occasions. Our unit was a FWD only model and it handled Iowa winter snows with ease. What we love: ample power, spacious interior, solid electronics/entertainment package, comfortable ride, flexible interior configurations, blind spot detection backup camera, and tow hitch. It pulls up to the 2,000 lb tow limit with ease. Very comfortable vehicle for long trips. What we did not love: in-town gas mileage of around 16 mpg, info screen takes a while to change from screen to screen, bluetooth microphone placement only catches driver's voice, low towing capacity (we wish it had more), and braking. (Brakes worked fine, but needed frequent replacement due to the weight of the vehicle. Repairs: our unit has a recurring issue with the driver's side sway bar link. It comes loose and rattles. It's been replaced 4 times over the course of our ownership. The shocks and struts were shot at 90k miles and needed replacement. The brakes wear quickly due to the weight of the vehicle. Sometimes they would warp under heavy braking at highway speeds. An upgrade to cross-drilled rotors seemed to help. The fuel pump died at around 130k miles. We've had to replace the passenger side heating/cooling vent door actuator (motor that opens and closes ducts behind the dashboard). The car definitely rides and handles better with higher quality tires. We have loved our Flex and been impressed with Ford's quality. We are nearing the point of doing suspension maintenance again, and trying to decide between putting the money into this Flex or buying another one. Aside from maintaining the wearable components, it seems like it is still going strong. Highly recommend the Flex to anyone looking for a comfortable ride, spacious interior and flexible seating/cargo options.

Big yet fun to drive.
I was looking or a larger car yet didn't want a sit up high SUV. I liked these when they first came out yet was hessitant so waited a few years and I am glad I did. It glides real smooth when driving it has great handling and turning radius. Not hard to park. The eco boost is awesome. It gets up and goes when you hit the peddle. Great for long hauls and short hauls. Highway and back roads with all the curves. I have over 3,000 miles on it and can't complain. Teenagers and friends fit in fine. can carry 4 dogs 4 adults and some with no problem. If you want a minivan look at this first. Has all wheel drive too.
Versatile Wagon
Fantastic car drives well, smooth ride and has room inside for tall people. With seats down it can hold more than many pick-up trucks.

WOW! I LOVE YOUR CAR!
The car has 135,000 miles on it. The interior is a light tan leather and with the dark colored weather tech mats added for the preserving of this vehicle, I very much take pride when I get behind the wheel of my Ford flex. The exterior is the light green shade. The best color as everyone says.
