Great truck

I did read all of the reviews. Some were good, some not so much. I bought my 2013 F-150 XLT Crew Cab Eco Boost 4x4 in October 2013. It is now late February 2015. The truck as been amazing. Power is incredible. Reliability is second to none. I have just shy of 25k on it, and it has been dealer maintained. The only drawbacks (my opinion) are 1. The driver seat - Wish it was more comfortable. 2. Steering wheel - Why not telescoping? Besides that, it is amazing. If I give it too much gas below 25 mph, tires burn out (early lesson learned). Fuel economy in pure city around 17mpg. Interstate long trips, 20/21mpg. Way more inside room (especially backseat leg room) than wife's

Upgraded from a Yaris

I had a Yaris and wanted something with more room and comfortable. I really wanted a new 2015 with the aluminum body but the price was going to be more than a house so a used lariat was my trade off in cost and features. The truck is near perfect. I wish it had come with Navigation but another trade off for price. The brakes are my main complaint. They make a humming noise when braking in a turn and while it is still under original warranty, I haven't had the time to bring the truck in for a look. I would have gotten a Tundra but they don't make many 4.6L engines anymore and I didn't want a 5.7. So overall, a great truck and mine for the next 10+ years. Update: 11/16 Well I have owned this truck for almost 2 years. The only maintenance problem I have had was the coolant well cap somehow came off and all the radiator coolant got out from the motion and vibration of the truck moving. Last January, I couldn't get the windshield defrost to work The blower would work but no warm or hot air would come out. I finally checked under the hood and found the cap off of the well and went to a nearby Ford stealership to get an OEM replacement. That and some more antifreeze fixed the problem. I did replace the front brakes and rotors a couple of months ago. The OEM rotors were warped and when I hit the brakes, I could feel the vibrations through the brake pedal. The rotors I replaced them with looked thicker and solved the front brake issue. I still hear the noise when I hit the brakes so I now know its the rear brakes and the rotors and pads will be replaced very soon. Even the OEM tires are wearing very well. The look like they could go another 20k miles. Tires for this monster are very expensive. 275/65/18 tires are more expensive than 16 or 20 inch tires which is baffling. I have thought about downsizing to a 16 inch and getting new wheels but that would be another major investment. The one positive would be that it would be easier to get in the truck. The drivers side is the only place in the truck where Ford didn't put a handrail to help you get in. That would have been a major improvement! Last year I did use it to tow a trailer I rented and while the 5.0 did OK, I wish now I had looked for the larger engine. The 5.0 is just not powerful enough to do really heavy towing. Update 5/23/2018 I have had no issues or complaints with my F-150 and it just keeps running strong. The back brakes make a noise in cooler or cold weather but they stop sufficiently. The gas mileage is fairly consistent and the biggest variation seems to come from the gas brand I use. Marathon is usually the best and I get higher mileage using it. Everyone that rides in my truck comments that it looks brand new. I am not a clean freak so I think the materials used were really good. I don't keep my truck in a garage so Ford used great materials and paint in making this truck. I hope this is my last vehicle and I am planning on driving it for many years and miles! Update: 5-23-2018 Just turned 80K miles and still running strong. I have had one issue that required mechanical attention. One of my hoses from the radiator was leaking and had to be replaced. I also replaced the back brakes and rotors. The back brakes must have really been dragging because when I put on the new set, my gas mileage increased to about 21 miles per gallon on a long trip to Louisiana from Indiana. Local mileage usually is around 17.5 MPG. Still very happy with this truck. The interior looks new. I wouldn't dream of trading this in. The 5.0 is really an excellent motor and if you are thinking about buying an F-150, I would highly recommend the 5.0.

The selector for this review didn't give the right option for my truck. I have a F-150 XLT Super Cab 2x4 eco boost engine, currently 36,000 miles, shorter cab and longer bed because I am using this truck to tow a light weight (7200 lb dry weight, 9500 lbs loaded) 34' fifth wheel RV. This truck pulls my RV with ease, so far I have towed about 9000 miles from the flat (and sometimes windy) lands of Kansas to the mountain passes of over 10 and 11,000 feet with absolutely no problems. I can tow as fast as I want 60-70 mph, even using cruise control. MPG highway 20-23, towing 8-11. This is working perfectly for our needs.

Bought this truck used with 32k it now has just over 60k, it was involved in an accident but you'd never know and I got a smoking price, bragging rights over now an honest review. I tow a demo trailer (6000lbs) and the power is unbelievable for a V6. the handling is great also. My father in law has a 2007 with the triton V8 and there is no comparison when it comes to handling. Mind you i'm a huge fan of the triton knowing they turn 200k regularly. We will see with eco-boost. So far its been great, I have the XLT crew cab with short bed. I do mostly highway driving and the MPG is about 15.8MPG when I'm not towing and about 9MPG when I'm towing in the Midwest. I do about 70MPH with the trailer on and 80MPH with it off. This is the first vehicle i've had with a turbo, its great. sometimes you will notice a lag if you drop off the gas and then hammer down. They can be a little noisy at times but the power is incredible considering its a V6, so I take that into consideration. Seats are comfortable and the center console reminds me of my old bronco (big square box).

Worst. Truck. Ever! I'm on my SECOND, Ford bought back my first F150 because of issues with the engine "misfire" and "stumble" They can't fix these things! Mine has had numerous updates, reflashes, parts changed, and yet it still suffers from hesitations. I'm also having problems with Sync, the A/C, and recently a driveline vibration and pulling to the right. Top it off with poor fuel economy nowhere near what Ford advertises! The final straw was results from a oil analysis, Other Ecoboost owners are having very high fuel dilution in their oil, mine is no different. I doubt these engines will live much past 100,000 miles.

Love my truck! I just got a 2013 XLT 5.0 V8 and love driving it. I test drove all the other trucks in this class and to me, the F150 felt the most solid and drove the best. Even the RAM, which seems to be the reviewer's car of the month that they are gushing over didn't come close to having that commanding feeling that I got in the 150. Silverado didn't come close. Toyota tundra would have been my second choice, as it was a couple grand cheaper. I wanted eco boost, but went with the V8. Have friend who bought eco boost and the turbo shut down in damp weather on the expressway..seems to be an issue that government is finally looking into....a lot of complaints about it. Still love the 8

I owned an 05 F150 before; but now my 2013 F150 Lariat 4x4 is great! best truck ever. I love the option to put in 4 wheel (AWD). So many features and not enough time to use them all... Ive had my 13' F150 for 5 years now with 90,000 miles. No problems, nothing ever wrong. Just oil changes and tires. The horsepower is out of this world! Literally throws you back in your seat. Its quick!! Ride is very soft even with a 2 1/2 " leveling kit. 33" tires

I have about 86000 miles on my 2013 F-150 with Ecoboost. I was pretty happy with the truck, changed oil regularly, and always have properly serviced. Ford's warranty is no good, even with an extended warranty it would have only been for 60000 miles. I was driving down the road and the engine quit. The Ford service has told me that the #6 piston is missing and two other pistons are very damaged. The head has a whole in it from the damage. There was no indication that the engine was failing. It will cost me $9,000-$10,000 for a new engine and I am still paying on this truck.

The truck is good but developed a shimmy when starting off up to 10 MPH. We asked the service department at the dealership to look at it over a year ago and at that time they did not acknowledge that there was a problem. We continued to note the problem every time we went to the dealership. Finally the dealership did acknowledge the issue in May but have been unable to fix the issue. We contacted FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE three weeks ago and have not spoken to anyone from their regional management group. We did receive 1 message on the 30th but have not been able to get anyone to call us back since. Also really low gas mileage compared to what was said on the sticker. Ongoing saga.

Make sure of your towing capacity. Miles per gallon seem to be a guideline. Actual mileage is far less. disappointing! Make sure you really need a truck of this size for towing/ hauling before you buy. If you can get away with a smaller, more fuel efficient vehicle.... buy it instead.

Expensive Tires

With less than 14000 miles on the vehicle I noticed both front tires were wearing out on the outside edges only. I told them that I wanted the camber checked. I took it to my dealer and the told me that my tires were under inflated. I pointed out that under inflation would wear out both inside and outside edges not just one. They told me that the tire settings were okay and there wasn't a problem. I can't afford to spend nearly $500 every 15000 miles for two new tires. Please be careful when buying this truck because it can get expensive real quick for things that should not wear out quickly.

I have a 2013 FX4 SuperCrew Ecoboost that was purchased WITH a 6" lift and 35x12.5x20 all terrain tires. Please understand that although I do have frustrations with a lifted truck and will never own one again, that does not affect my review here. As of this moment, the truck has 52,193 miles on it. All light city/highway miles with a couple of light off-road interactions (never had to use 4x4). First and foremost, this truck does NOT get what it's advertised in regards to MPG. I realize my fuel effieceny will be greatly affected by the lift, but I also have friends who own this truck stock and they don't get near what's advertised. So I feel dooped considering that was the reason I went with the Ecoboost. I still tow enough to need some power; this truck has none. I spent >$3,000 on upgrades to make this truck move! Programmer, exhaust, intake, etc. I shouldn't need to spend $50k on a new truck and then another $3k to make it perform... ok ok. Beyond that, I have had nothing but problems albeit small issues. I've had the dash lights stay on and leave me stranded with a dead battery. Sent it to dealership to flash ECU. Didn't work. Had to replace ECU. My module that switches the 2 wheel drive to 4 was stuck in between and grinding making an awful noise. Another dealership trip. The latch on the driver side door malfunctioned, door wouldn't shut. Another trip. Do I need to go on? Just irritating and I don't have time to deal with this petty stuff. I paid a lot of money for a quality truck and didn't feel like I got it. Beneath all of the negativity, I do feel as if the Ford has the best ergonomics. Very comfortable, very luxurious, very spacious rear seating, very modern technology, good looking truck.

Great truck. Roomy. Powerful. Great for carrying and hauling things. Lousy for carrying my 2 German Shepherd dogs in the back seat area. The back outdoor bed might be ok for very short distances and the dogs were secured properly and safely. Gas mileage totally sucks! 15 mpg is the most to wish for. 14 is more realistic. 13 is the average.

'13 F-150 Crew 4X4 Eco-boost V6, all at 15K service: The rotors had to be turned due to vibration on braking. After never hitting anything that would cause the alignment to be out of spec, the alignment cost me nearly $500 (for a camber kit installation) because the factory equip. could not be adjusted to the proper correction. Driver outside door handle must be replaced - have to pull twice to open. Driver door molding/seal replaced A/C not cold in hot weather. SYNC sucks Occasional power hesitation on start from stop-sign Various rattles within the cabin Heat-recirc. turns off after 5 min in winter

They didn't have an option for 3.5L Ecoboost FX4. I just got done towing a 28ft 8,000lb trailer to Yosemite National Park and it pulled it with no issues, turbo lag or trouble getting up 7%+ grade hills. I had a 2010 with the 5.4ltr v8 and it had trouble pulling the travel trailer even with the 3.73gears. In towing I got average of 12.5mpg. I usually get 15.5 in city and upper teens for hwy but I work in a hilly area so I'm getting better then I expected. I was a little worried about the Ecoboost reviews from the '11 & '12' models but looks like they worked out the kinks for '13 but I leased the truck just in case. If you need a truck that can tow alot & get v6 mpg's, this is the truck!

I only have about 68,000 miles on this truck which is very low for the age but it is one of the best trucks I've owned plenty of power loaded with options never had a problem but I do keep up with the maintenance oil changes tire rotations everything Ford recommends I get a lot of compliments on the looks of the truck and driving forwards for close to 40 years I've tried Chevy Dodge had a lot of problems Dodge transmission Chevy fuel pump wiper motor AC compressor electrical problems all this with less than 70,000 never again Chevy very happy with the truck I have. I understand there's a lemons in every manufacturer of vehicles I guess I've either been lucky or it's the fact I take great care of my vehicles have to they're so expensive.

Bought the truck used with 80,000 miles on it at 97,000 the cam phasers and timing chain needed to be replaced at the cost of 4.500 dollars. Now at 118,000 miles it needs to be done again. Also just replace the water pump and 2 of the o2 sensors. The rockers and cab corners are also rotten. Worst truck I’ve ever owned. There’s a lot more problems but I don’t have all day to write a book. Run the other direction stay away from The ecoboost motors!!!!

Buy a Tundra or RAM

My wife and I really like our Fusion and so I thought I give the F-150 a chance. I liked the way it drove and some of the options and decided to buy it. After my first two months of ownership, I've had one recall, a driveshaft vibration and the gas gauge is all over the place. The Ford's suspension absorbs bumps better than my old Tundra but the Ford tranny hunts more often than the bulletproof Tundra driveline and the 5.0L is no match for Toyota's 5.7L. It's these initial quality issues with Ford that drive buyers crazy. Ford's F-150 division still doesn't get the importance of initial quality. I'm forced to suck it up and keep this truck for a few years until I can buy another Tundra!

the mph was lower on the eco bust than expected. Would be nice to have more interior storage space. Lots of interior room. Why not a compartment under the back seat for misc tools, etc.

Bought my truck new from local dealer. Had to get two new steering control units during the first 6 weeks of ownership. 42k had to get the front engine cover gasket replaced do to oil leak. 44k had to get throttle body replaced. Now have 61k on odometer. Combined highway, city, towing MPG of 14.9 since purchase.

Best 5.0 V8 Pickup ever

I don't have the ecoboost, I have the 5.0 V8; but it's not an option on this form. The ecoboost is truly amazing, but has a limit on it's high end and tends to just thrash. The 5.0 is in my eyes even more amazing. From 0 - 110 it's just pulling and tugging with an aggressive roar. Love the seats, Sony Subwoofer, sunroof, and Navi. Touch screen and auto start logic are great, with auto handling of defrosters and seat temperatures.

This pickup has been a great truck to own. It has mostly highway miles on it. The truck has a good ride and the V-6 Eco Boost engine gets great mileage with a lot of power when you need it.

Nice truck. The F-150 is comfortable and well equipped. Visibility is very good but it did Not come with a backup camera. I did add one though. It can haul anything I want just fine, including our camper and all our gear for 6 people. I really like the fold up rear seats, I can fit 2 bicycles inside the cab easily. It does sit a little high making it a climb for shorter people. Most people like that ride height because you can see better. I love the 5.0 V8 and I plan on keeping my truck for a long time. It has been very dependable. Currently has 147,600 miles and still running like a top. Recently replaced the water pump. Other than that No problems. Overall mileage is about 18 mpg.

2013 5.0 XLT Super Crew Cab. This has become our family vehicle for long trips, it’s like riding in a town car but with more room. We tow our boat all over with it as well. With 140,000 miles there have been not a single issue except a worn upper ball joint, leaking coolant oring and a failed fuel pump control module.

V6 ecoboost torture test joke!

I was skeptical, but due to a great deal offered by a local dealer to move last years new models - I bought in. Shame on me for believing the ford propaganda videos on this engine. Series of 6 “torture test”videos that can be found archived on YouTube. Watch those. Impressive huh? My ecoboost was treated to the best oil/filters money could buy and always changed on time and maintained. It’s duty cycle was not to haul, tow, or even work. Needed to simply carry my carcass 80mi r/t to work every day. 99% highway miles. Easiest duty cycle any vehicle could ask for. $3200 timing chain repair at 90k, and the engine ultimately gave up (rod bearing/oil pump/etc) at 177k. Truck still looked showroom new in/out. Sold as-is at a huge loss rather than continue on with this nonsense engine. 100% junk. Loved this vehicle in every other way. Still highly suggest f150 but v8 for me this time around. They may have improved on the ecoboost since 2013 (or not). You would be wise to search the ford/f150/ecoboost forums for timing chain posts and read. It’s certainly not just my experience ;)

I bought the truck used. I traded in an 06 XLT with the troublesome 5.4. I traded the grrr for a whirr and I like it. The Motor is great. Haven't had the mpg that I had hoped, but I've had it inot to the shop and they've found no problems. I've had the truck for 3 weeks now. I'm sure I will find some things to fix here and there, but the proof pudding will be in a few weeks when I hooked onto my 27 foot camper. I love the truck, and I hope to continue loving it.

I bought this vehicle for my 50th birthday I have been very impressed with it .I expect to own this one for at least 20 years. Every person that has riden in the vehicle has mentioned how cavernous the back seat is whether they were a Chevy owner or a Dodge owner or Ford, they thought the backseat had a lots of room and the Ride is and comfortably .

143k and still going strong. There is not much to dislike, but if picky, I wish it had a heated steering wheel for these cold, Mid-West winters. The 5.0 is strong enough for all my needs and then some. Tons of space in the super crew. My one complaint is cab corner rust. Makes me want to get a newer, aluminum model.
