Base model is a great value
Truck seems very sturdy and strong. Drives easily and smoothly. Quiet except for slight wind noise around small rear doors and only when very windy outside. This truck w/o all the costly bells and whistles is exactly what we wanted -- i.e. it cost less than many high mileage used trucks we looked at, is very comfortable, has the long bed with high sides, and has some storage space behind seat. Also, seats can be reclined slightly.
2008 Ford F-150 super crew FX2 sport 5.4 Triton V8
I bought my truck in 2010 and now it has 91k miles. All the maintenance has been done including changing out the spark plugs 10k in advance of the maintenance manual. I also changed out the differential fluids, transmission and coolant all before 75k including all the brakes and rotors. The truck is phenomenal on the highway. It’s as if I’m driving a big sedan. I’m using General Grabbers UHX 275/55/20 with 10 in rims, tires are rated at HR and provide a noise less environment while firmly gripping the road and corners. I’m suprised how much torque and speed there is on my truck at mid and high range.mits so easy to push past 100mph on the interstate without knowing it. The speed limiter will kick in however. I’ve gone cross country twice in it and it was fault less. The FX Leather interior is still superb and supple...I make sure the leather is always conditioned. The Heat and sunlight will crack the seats quickly. My first bulb failure occurred just recently..it was the fog lamp. Otherwise, as long as you wash off the mud and debris under the truck and fenders, stay on the maintenance schedule, give it good oil and TLC this baby should last till 200k.

My 2008 F150 is the great.
I bought mt 2008 F-150 in January 2009 when gas prices were sooo high and people weren't buying trucks. I paid $12,995 for it; and they gave me $3000 for my 2001 Dodge Ram trade-in that had a bad trans. I was pretty happy about the deal. I've now owned the truck for 11 years and the only thing I've had to do was replace the front brakes at 75K and replace the tires. That seems too soon for a brake job, but I'm not complaining. My biggest complaint about this truck is the rough ride. It'll rattle your bones on any degree of rough road. I always keep a full tanks of gas just to ad weight. The weight of a full tank seems to help the rough ride. But the new Bridgestone tires are far worse than the original Michelin's. I recommend staying with the original tires when new tires are needed. Also there is a click, or tick, that I recently noticed when just idling. I think a drive belt may need replacing. Bottom line is This has been a great truck. Absolutely reliable. I have 86K miles on it after 11 years and expect this truck will outlast me. My truck and my wife's Toyota Corolla are probably the last vehicles we will ever have to buy.
2008 F150 - good but a very rusting truck
Bought truck brand new. Has always been and continues to be a very smooth and quiet truck - more like a luxury car. Good stable handling as well. Lots of room inside and in the bed and great for towing and good in the snow. Mechanically has been very good. However, rust has been a relatively serious issue. The steering rack was the first to go - rusted out and got very stiff and erratic to steer. Had to replace that and was very rusty. The second was much more serious. The transmission cooling lines rotted out. They let go just after I got home from a long trip to Nova Scotia with my elderly father. There was fluid on the ground the day after I came home. We could have been stuck in the middle of the night in the middle of no where. We were fortunate, but cost me about $900 to fix. Checked the underside and there was a lot of rust on the frame and especially the bed rails. Not very happy about that. I've been spending a lot of time sanding, priming and painting the frame and rusty areas of the underside. I'm also using the 3M rust fighter undercoating as well. It's costing a lot of time and money, but I'm hoping it gives me a lot more years with the truck. Don't want another car payment! Looked at the underside of my wife's 2006 Toyota Sienna and noticed that it was undercoated from the factory and hardly any rust. Maybe Ford ought to consider that or they won't get any return buyers. If I get another truck, I'll be looking strongly at Toyota.

TRUE FORD QUALITY
I had a 1998 F150 with the 4.6 engine and ext cab. It was an excellent truck. I absolutely never had any problems with the 1998. in 2008 I bought the F150 Lariat 4X4 with crew cab. I love this truck! I got a great end of the year deal on it and the truck has been wonderful. Ford dealerships take care of their customers. I upgraded the wheels to 20" chrome wheels, duel exhaust and matching rear fiberglass shell. I get tons of compliments and I love my truck. Test drove the Tundra and found it very nice with lots of power. I still preferred the quality, comfort and ride of the Ford.
