Used 1998 Ford F-150 Consumer Reviews
Awsome truck
Had this truck for not even two years. I have decided I wouldn't give it up for the world. Already moved across country and had to tote over 7000 lbs worth of households. No problems what so ever. I have been hit once which most would consider totalled, but she is still running strong. Beautiful truck with great power. If you can get past the gas mileage, this is the best truck to look into.
X GM Man
What was I thinking? I grew up with the old man driving Fords, but after I left the house I switched to Chevy. After buying this 98 I realize what I was missing out on.Build and quality are FAR superior to anything with a bow tie or sheeps horn.Interior is night and day difference, and at 122k miles drives much tighter than my brothers 2001 Chevy with 65k miles.I would only go back to a GM truck becuase I am more familiar with the powertrains, but only because they needed a little of TLC for maintenance.I have the 4.6 with police engine(bought for state use originally),and think power is good.

165,000 Miles & Strong
Most reliable, trustworthy vehicle I have ever owned. As original owner and at 165K, I have had less than $1,000 in repairs in 8 years. Maintenance costs have been very reasonable. Mine is a manual with V6 -- gets about 17 mpg city & 20 mpg highway. Highly recommend this over the Silverado. Still has tight steering, great suspension, great ride, no rattles -- after many camping trips on unmaintained roads.
Don't buy the 4.2 V6
I had this truck for 7 years and it's been reliable until it reached 89,000 miles. Both head gaskets blew, but I found out this is a very common problem for 97-99 F150's with the 4.2 V6. STAY AWAY FROM THE 4.2!
to buy or not
It seems to be a nice truck, rides very nice and smooth even with large tires and not have road noise from the tires. Power locks and windows and remote control mirrors are already in. I'm concerned about the milage averaging about 18600 per year.
