LOVING the Explorer Sport
We had a 2011 Explorer, and I'm very pleased to say that every little thing that annoyed me in the 2011 model has been totally addressed in the 2016. Real buttons for climate controls, remote start works from more than 10 feet away, and automatic climate control works much better, for example. I'm a "driver" and I enjoy a vehicle that can handle itself properly and isn't "lazy". The Sport checks all the boxes. I'm very pleased with the throttle response, which is typically terrible in an automatic transmission vehicle, but it is very good in the Sport, making the explorer feel very eager. The ecoboost engine really pulls nicely, especially from 40-80+ mph. Steering response is great, and the explorer stays nice and flat in the turns. Good solid road manners over uneven surfaces. The interior is very comfortable. I love the red stitching on the black leather, looks very sporty. Fit and finish is very good. I purposely bought our Explorer without the adaptive cruise control and collision warning system, because I hated those with a passion in the 2011 we owned. Literally HATED them. Ford has nailed it with the 2016 Explorer Sport. I only have one complaint. The driver's footrest is a little cramped. That's it. That is the ONLY thing I can think of to complain about. Its a really great vehicle. UPDATE: After 18k miles, there isn't anything I would change about my review, except that the drivers footrest thing is really not an issue. We love this vehicle and have zero complaints at all. Its been perfect for us! UPDATE: After 25k miles, there isn't anything I would change about my review. This has been a great vehicle, and we would definitely buy another one.

Poor Quality Ruins An Otherwise Good Product
I wanted to be among the first in my neighborhood to get the new 2016 Explorer and so I did. Now I will be among the first not to get another one as my lease is up soon. Here are the problems I've had which are driving my decision:check engine light goes on at 300 miles, take to dealership, they say it's fixed, then it goes back on again. Take it back to dealership, they get it to turn off, then it goes back on again. Now it has remained off. Side auto retract mirrors are a great idea, unfortunately they now creak like haunted house stairs when they retract. Power windows chatter when you press the down button. Dashboard periodically whistles and it's not the a/c, it's something else. Out of the clear blue, when you lock the door, the drivers seat moves to a fully reclined and fully lifted position, the mirrors move to a weird setting. Lastly, the seats suck. Very uncomfortable and cheap-feeling leather which is showing a lot of wear after only 25,000 miles. It feels like you are sitting on instead of in the seats. Very poor thigh support and I am only about 6 feet tall.

Great Vehicle
The Sport has better road feel in the steering, the engine has fantastic power, the front seats are very confortable( I am 6'3"), the handling for the sport is very positive for an SUV(much better than my F-150) and as good as a sedan, the fit and finish inside is great. The only thing we think needs improvement is the instrument gauges, or lack of. I would like to see more gauges like in the F-150. The twin-turbo V6 has fantastic power and response. The MPG is between 21 and 22, but my wife does have a lead foot at times and she loves the power too. My wife drives this to work each day and loves how it handles. Our Explorer now has 54,000 miles and still drives like new. The seats and interior, still sit and look like new, we did have the console door latch break, but had replaced and have had no other interior issues. The engine and drive-train work like new. We change the oil every 5,000 miles. The exterior and paint look show room new. Overall we think this is a great vehicle.

Transmission gave out
My husband bought us a 2016 Ford Explorer Sports edition....less than a year later, while driving it to work one morning, the car just stopped accelerating, after restarting the car, I drove fwd, then put the car in reverse, NOTHING. Had a tow truck take it straight to the dealership. A few hours later, got a call from the dealer stating the transmission had given out. Never getting a ford again! So disappointing.

2016 Explorer - Poor Quality / Tone Deaf Service
The vehicle looks nice and performs well. We own a 2016 Explorer Sport. At ~62K miles, we had a front wheel making a rubbing sound. The local Ford dealer told us that not only that one but the other side wheel bearing was worn out. $1100 repair on a vehicle not even 3.5 years old. Fast forward a month, same noise in the rear....you guess it....$1100 more. Now I have replaced 4 wheel bearings in less than a month. I have owned GM, Nissan, Toyota and Jeep in my life including other Fords...NEVER have replaced bearings and some vehicles were running close to 200K miles when I sold them. I understand things wear out but not 4 of the same part at 60K miles. The Ford Dealer in Liberty, MO also did NOTHING to help share the costs to protect their brand so here we are. I have complained to Ford twice, and wrote a personal letter to each of their Board of Directors. I received a letter back saying they hope the experience didnt cause my "faith in Ford to waiver". Well it didnt. It disappeared. Am now pursuing via BBB and every forum I can find. Just spend $1000 on brakes / rotors. Do NOT buy an Explorer.
