Love this Explorer! Breaking system? Meh.

I love my Explorer. Almost everything about it! The only thing I was somewhat disappointed in was the traction in a small amount of snow/ice. There was just a little bit and it was more towards the front end of the car when I was breaking. I could hear the breaking system engaging but I was still sliding out into the busier street. I did not have it in 4 WD at the time. I figured AWD would have been sufficient for such a small amount of snow/ice. This actually happened twice.

Had 4 Explorer, 2002.2004,2006, 2008 My 2015 has had 2 major recalls and just had to replace valve covers and seat belt module. Car is 4x what older ones were and breaks down all the time. Revies on the car support what I am saying. What company buys Jaguar and Fiat the worst cars on the market Lost me

For the 2015 I opted brand new for the Sport model. 365 HP with the twin turbo. If you can afford the gas and like the umph get this model. If not don't get it. I can get just 18 to barely 19 on the highway at 70 mph and 13 to 14 in the city. I don't like the small 18 gallon tank for an SUV. This year 2015 the climate control is without knobs and every thing is pressing a flat screen on the dash. Very annoying. One year was enough of that for Ford and they eliminated that. Having size 14 shoes there is limited space to put your feet on the front floors. It is almost like putting your feet in a bucket. The size of the front floor mat is the size of a rear floor mat. So very weird of a design. One day 1 year out of the warranty I left the vehicle outside in the rain which was heavy. The next day I had water puddled on the passenger side floor mat, a lot of it. The windshield channel had leaked, no accidents, Ford wanted nothing to do with it even with thousands of consumer complaints. My private mechanic was a former Ford dealership mechanic so I was lucky he knew what to look for. Hundreds to repair that one. My power transfer case blew up under warranty and was quickly fixed under warranty. The carpet is the usual Ford carpet that does not hold up and wears down quickly, especially around the floor mats on the front driver and passenger side. There are no automatic daylight driving lights. They do come on when dark though. The third row is fine for small kids but a major squeeze for adults to say the least. And last but not least, there is not digital section on the cars dash to tell you how much psi air pressure that is in each tire. I refused to believe and drove back to the dealership to be told there is none on the 15 model. I have to get out and use a tire gauge. Now for what I like. I like the driver's door keypad on the outside driver's door. Saved me more than once. I like the roomy interior up front. It is almost like the doors on the inside bow out. I like the moon glass for the rear seat. The all wheel drive is nice in the snow if you have snow. If not it is a lot of wear and tear on a dry road. As I mentioned my PUT blew up. The traction control can be switched off but I'm not sure if that takes it out of all wheel drive. The headlights are bright and straight from left to right. When the brights are on they shine more straight up instead of flooding the road from left to right. It takes getting used to. My 3.5 ecotech motor is smooth but like I said it sucks the gas. I get better mileage in my full size Tahoe with a V8. The cabin is quiet and appears to have nicer materials. 80,000 miles so far with nothing too major. Don't get the 15 model with the climate control screen unless you try it first. You probably won't like it as mentioned before. And remember, the sport model gives you the bigger engine and the nice black rims but you pay at the pump.

It has been almost three years I have had this vehicle. I have towed trailers, done some mild off-roading, taken road trips, and pretty much everything else with this thing. Right now I mostly commute to school with this. The Gas mileage isn't great. Since I got the car, I've averaged about 17 MPG. Lately, I've been around 15 MPG. Interior is nice, and it puts up with camping. Exterior components still looking good. I had a small transmission leak over a year ago. Ford fixed it fast. Probably from towing. I have put the trans through its paces. It's pretty quick off the line. Lots of people are confused when I beat them from the light. Handling is awesome for an SUV. I really love how smooth it is and the turning radius is better than most cars. It's just under powered. The EcoBoost V6 is definitely what I need, but I can't afford those models. Ford should make it available for all models. I'm trading this base model in for the XLT. Reasons: Need side mirror turn signals, need reverse sensors, need fog lights, and maybe a couple more bells and whistles. I kinda wanted to keep it. I think it's a great vehicle. I will eventually get rid of my next one and just buy either an Expedition or an F-150. There is not a huge difference in gas mileage, and I need more towing capability. If you don't tow anything, and your commute to work isn't long, I think this is a great car for anyone. Ford did a good job. Oh, the basic SYNC system is kinda screwy. Nothing big, but the connectivity is a little spotty. Oh well.

Be Careful Before Buying the Sport

We love our new Explorer Sport 2015. However, our sales person did not have the full understanding of the model differences between the Sport and the Limited. The Sport was suppose to be the Limited Plus and it's not. It's missing additional features like a digital speedometer and heated rear seats. Not HUGE deals but frustrating when you think you are getting everything that comes with the Limited Plus some.
