I've just leased an "02 Explorer (XLT, V8, leather, moonroof, 3rd row, Sport pkg.), and left the dealer less than thrilled. I was disappointed at not being able to lease a more premium suv in my business, and I settled for good old Ford. Some 200 miles later, I find myself grinning alot, driving as much as possible, and wondering "WHAT WAS I THINKING???". My new sled amounts to nothing less than a combination of performance car, tow vehicle, mini van, trail runner, and stylin' cruiser. Everyone admires and respects her. I think I'm falling in love.

I have ahd my Explorer for almost three years now. I have found it to be a reliable and versatile vehicle. The engine is a little noisey. The front end quality is poor due to plastic parts in the bumper area and headlight area. The Explorer offers plenty of room and easy access to loading and unloading cargo. Gas milage is average, with approx 20 mpg on the road. I have noticed several rattles starting to appear in the front of the vehicle, which is irritating. If I had it to do all over again, I would probably opt to buy the larger Expedition V8 or the Chevy Tahoe.

I'm very disapointed in what the Ford engineers did to an awesome SUV. This is my third Ford SUV. They ruined the Explorer. It has car mirrors instead of truck mirrors. HELLO! IT IS A TRUCK, IT SHOULD HAVE TRUCK MIRRORS! Now in order to sit up high, you have to raise the seat all the way up, but then the rear view mirror gets in the way. I now HAVE to drive the recommended speed limit on a clover leaf. If I don't, I can feel the SUV lose traction. Teach people who are used to driving corvettes how to drive an SUV instead of giving a knee jerk reaction to the bad roll over publicity!!! People who knew how to drive trucks & SUV's weren't the ones rolling it!

You could have knocked me over with a feather if you would have told me I'd be buying another explorer. I just had a '93 for 9 years and was ready for another vehicle. I was origninally thinking of a BMW X5 but the price was way out their, especially in this economy. I took the 02 explorer for a test drive and "that's all she wrote", I was sold. Rides like a luxury car and feels the same. Would not even know you were in an SUV. I'll know more in the upcoming New England winter but I would think this baby's gonna perform as advertised, magnificently. So far, so good and am quite satisfied.
