Used 2004 Ford Excursion SUV Consumer Reviews
florida truck
This is our 3rd Excursion. We lemon lawed our 02 because of a thumping noise in the front end, unexpected stalling, and a several squeaks in the interior. Now we have a 2004, which has some of the same troubles. We still like the vehicle and have decided to ignore these troubles....for now.
Didn't test it enough
I love the look of my excursion I like to drive it,but it just is not reliable,I have had it in the shop for many different things,It goes through break pads like crazy,I was really disapointed have always been a ford fan,I chose it over the suburban,I now am looking to trade it in because i have 4 children and I am afraid to put them in it,It does not stop like it should and when I put it in the shop they can never seem to find anything wrong.Ford tried to compeat with chevy but really lost this one,,,
302k miles and no problems
This SUV is amazing. It is amazingly big, tall, fuel inefficient, and difficult to maneuver. But I've got 302,000 miles on the original 5.4l engine and transmission (which works out to 20,000 gallons, or $80,000, of gas). This is a serious SUV that should only be used by those who need it. Even with a V8, it is surprisingly slow. You need to pay attention when you're driving it, and a long trip can be stressful. But it holds a lot and is surprisingly competent offroad.
The Barge
From the day I test drove this, I did not like it and had problems. First off, on the test drove and pulled out in traffic. The Excursion snorted bucked and chattered as we tried to accelerate into traffic. I told the salesman that I wanted to go back and test drive one with the V10...He said- THIS IS THE V10! When I went to get out of the vehicle. The door handle snapped off in my hand! Not only has this vehicle been nothing but problems, the dealer I bought this from could care less. I think it even seems to burn gas when the engine is off. Going into a corner with the Excursion is like trying to manuver a drunk hippo.
Because I can!
With 2 young children/2 car seats, this is our best bet yet! It has all of the room we need to carry extra passengers plus our do-it-yourself projects. It is easy to drive, park and back up. My only suggestion: measure your garage before you buy. We have an oversized garage but many garages can't fit it! One mini-van driver asked sarcastically asked why I drive such a big tank? I replied..."Because I can!" We don't put much mileage on it so fuel economy wasn't a concern. Well worth the $$ and we are very happy!
