Used 2005 Ford Escape Consumer Reviews
Great for the money
I shopped around for an SUV for a few months, visinting all the major competitors and I think I got the best deal with the Escape. It's comparable to the other SUVs out there and more reasonably priced.
Great little SUV
I have owned my Escape AWD for a year and a half now, and I have been impressed with the vehicle. It is fun to drive, and the interior is roomy enough for my family of four. I have a little over 50,000 miles on it, and I haven't had to replace or repair anything. It handles great on the icy Idaho roads in the winter, and my wife feels safe driving it. That being said, gas mileage leaves something to be desired. I only average 17mpg with the Escape, while I average 14mpg with my much larger Duramax truck. The fuel tank is also too small.

I'd Buy it Again
My wife had an '02 Escape XLT but she wanted a Honda Element, so we traded in the Escape. When I got in the position of being able to purchase one myself, I bought this one. It's red all over with a black interior. (1st choice was Chromecoat Yellow, but stupid Ford killed THAT colour a couple years ago.) It doesn't seem to corner quite as quickly as the '02 did (maybe they softened up the ride?), but it rides a bit softer. It also doesn't seem to stop quite as quickly as the '02. Then again, it doesn't soil up the front wheels with LOTS of brake dust like the '02 did. I hate that they moved the spare under the car, because the in-car tire well gave added storage in the '02.
Best of those tested
This SUV is everything it's advertized. It handles like a car, has visibality of a pickup, and the exceleration of a sportscar. The ride is excellent, and it's FUN to drive. The headlight system exceeds anything I ever owned, visability at night is excellent. The only drawback is, as mentioned in other reviews, the small gas tank and limited range. So, I have to refill the tank more often -- no big deal.
Great all-around vehicle
Great gas mileage! This vehicle is perfect for driving long distance and can manage simple trips to the grocery store all the way up to rugged camping trips with cub scouts.
good to look at good for the environment
It really works in Colorado - I have taken it off off road and I love it! Super great mileage in the city. Hybrids rule!
Buy this car.
Much comforting than my older model Explorer now that I don't travel much. The Explorer was great for long trips and held so much luggage, but now I'm downsizing and single, this is still roomy and holds alot of items in the storage area way back.
2005 Escape Hybrid
Very nice car for the price range with WONDERFUL gas mileage. I drive 100+ miles per day, mostly highway, and my average miles per gallon is now 36.2.
Ecstatic Ford Lover
I love my new SUV. I am a very tall person so the head room is beyond exceptional. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone with small children. My daughter loves the back seat. She can see everything now.
Among the best compact SUVs
So far this vehicle has suprised me since day 1. The ride is firm but never jarring and the V6 really moves the SUV with some authority. Highway cruising is a breeze as the engine loafs at 2500RPM at 80MPH. The ride comfort on moderatley smooth roads comes at the expense of a little body lean in quick turns.. although handling is ultimately secure if your not trying to zip around a corner at excessive speed. I test drove a few competitors and found they came up short in more areas. Cargo space is versatile and just big enough for my family and luggage.(I have one child). There is no wonder why Escape is the best selling small SUV. With the HEV coming..there is more of a reason to buy
