Fun to drive, Police Interceptor
the 2004 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor is a big car that is fun to drive and has pretty good power for such a big car. However this year of car has a common problem of headlight failure due to the lighting control module. If you are going to buy one of these cars make sure the headlights work! and not just intermittently. Also about a week after buying this car with 123k miles on it the shocks that hold the hood open failed and now it slowly shuts the hood down so u have to hold it up with your hands. Also when pulling the lever to open the hood it doesn't open the hood all the way and u have to pry it open with something just to unlock the latch. Make sure you inspect it good b4 buying.
Simply said, the best car I've ever owned!
I cannot say enough about the Crown Victoria. I bought my 2004 two years ago with 148k on the clock. Since then, the only non-maintenance items I've had to replace was driveshaft u-joints, and a cooling fan. Today, the car sits at 181,500 miles. This thing can take a serious beating and not even care! It's super comfortable. The ultimate highway car! Crazy amounts of torque! Most passing maneuvers don't even require a down shift. Parts are really really cheap and easy to find. Largest trunk in the universe! What's not to like? Well the gas mileage is meh, but you should expect that coming into it. Long live the Crown Victoria, its Panther siblings, and the Modular V8!
Police Interceptor
This car is great value for the money, especially used; that's if you find the perfect one. Now, this being a police version, it does ride a lot firmer than the standard car, but since the seats are so comfortable, it almost doesn't matter. Being a police spec car also means that it gets all the powertrain improvements over even the LX Sport. I was even lucky enough to get one with matching seats. The wheels on the car do rust quite easily; my car has 159000 miles and there is quite a bit of rust on each rim. The power delivery is very broad in this car, but I found that it loses power when getting close to the redline. It corners pretty flat, but it's easy to upset, especially in the rain.
Big Ford
I bought this Ford a year ago and it now has 65,000 miles on it. Everything works is the best running and most comfortable car I have owned. I get 30 mpg on the highway and 20 running around town. Love sitting at stop lights and young kids in little sports cars wanna run them. They get a quick surprise when all they see are my tail lights. I love my big Ford with the huge bench seat and the trunk you can put a small compact in.
thank you
the crown victoria is the best car I'v ever driven.thanks for such great car.I love the crown victoria, it is my favorite car in the world, i would pick it over any other car even super cars.
WOWZER, never thought I would, but I did
After being in an accident in a 01 Accord that left me with injuries I happened to ask the adjuster his opinion of the safest car to be in ... and he didn't hesitate a second. "Crown Victoria", he said with a smile. Guess what I'm driving now? Yep, you guessed it. And I'll tell you the truth, I'm loving every second of it.
Best Car Ever!
I bought my LX in May '04 used with 19,000 miles on it for $13,500. It had EVERY option except a moon roof and leather (not a big fan of leather). I took a round trip of the U.S. in it going from Fl. to L.A. to WI. and back home to Fl. 9,000 miles total in 2 weeks only. Car ran perfect, was super comfy, and other cars got out of my way on the interstate. Get Mich Hydro Edege tires, they make this vehile perform flawlessly in any weather condition. Vehile was just totaled out due to a driver of an F-150 running a light. Other than air bag deployment, there was no interior damage. The crush zones work really well. I will most likely be geting another, I miss mine really bad.
The Only Car
Being a 22 yr old college student, I needed a vehicle that was reliable, comfortable on those long trips to and from school, and had a low ownership cost (low cost to buy, maintain, and insure). I purchased the 04 Crown Vic off of an individual who had bought the car new. The CV is a bargain and does everything I expected and more. On long trips I can expect 30-32 mpg and around town low 20's. The fuel economy is on par with many 6 cylinder mid-sized sedans. So why not go for more room, more comfort, and 8 cylinder performance? And when some unsuspecting smart alec pops off about it being a "granny car" I simply unleash the Triton V-8 and that shuts them up. A great value and a great car!
Get a P71
I have nothing but good things to say about my ownership experience with my black police interceptor. This car has good power, turns heads, rides like a Cadillac and has been very reliable. Of course, the police package has beefed up components but from other reviews all Crown Vics seem to be well built. You can find these cars on the used car market cheap, and if you find a well kept P71, get it!
Best Car I ever owned
I have owned many cars, including Cadillacs and Lincolns, but this Crown Vic is by far the best overall of any car I ever owned. I started driving in the early 60's when cars were cars. My Crown Vic is as close to the cars of those days as you can get. Very comfortable, great ride and what a trunk! My mileage is better than the 97 T-Bird it replaced. If Ford ever stops making the Crown Vic I will have to buy my cars on some other planet.
Panthers rule!
The current-generation Crown Victoria is perhaps a bit dated-looking, but it's still sharp and still looks way better than "cutting edge" designs like the Chrysler 300. Trunk room and ride comfort are everything you'd expect from a traditional big car (again, better in every way than the 300), and it couples that with reasonably good fuel economy and performance. The 4.6 pulls a lot harder than I thought it would, and even with a full load of people and cargo, it's never short of passing power (something the old 5.0L cannot claim!).
Best Crown Vic yet !
The new for '04 LX Sport is the best Crown Victoria ever offered to the consumer. A joy on extended road trips. Optional side air bags boost already impressive safety. The big deep trunk carries more cargo than most of today's wagons and even mid-sized SUV's. Rack and pinion steering is great, and the MPG has improved too!
Police Car in Sheep's Clothing
Nice sporty full sized automobile. Love the center console with shifter and the responsive V8 engine. Steering is very responsive with the big 17" tires and wheels. Have noticed that the car begins to get light and floaty in the front end at around 100 MPH. 100 MPH happens with very little effort.
WHAT HAPPENED???
I decided to trade up from a '92 Crown Vic and I was amazed at how "PLASTIC" the new cars are. My '92 was solid as a rock with great acceleration, good interior materials. The '04 is just plain cheap. The carpeting, plastic trim and mold on everything. The material lining in the trunk I could put my finger through. Think I paid more for less.
Excellent Car
This was my first new car. At age 54, I had only driven used cars and decided to treat myself to a new one. Mine was a left-over 2004 model that I bought in early 2005 at a very steep discount. It's the cheapie base model, but who cares, I don't next extra plasti-chrome or fancy wheels. It's got a simple presentation but that's to my liking; I don't need extra cup holders or cargo nets or any of that fluffy stuff. Everything in mine is simple, like analog instruments, manual heat/def. controls, etc.
CROWN VIC
This vehicle provides extreme comfort for all passengers as well as a sense of security. It rides like sitting on a cloud and handles like a sports car. Excellent braking. Many user comforts. I couldn't be more satisfied.
Ford Crown Victoria
I personally like the Ford Crown Victoria. I have always said that a car that is used as taxis and police cars has to be built well. You know something? I was right! It handles very well, has a smooth ride, and is very quiet. For me the Ford Crown Vic Is an excellent car. A very dependable car.
Crown Vic
An awesome car! A total pleasure to drive.
Great car for the price
Went from a Japanese compact to this car. It was a huge change. Lots of room and lots of power. The trunk is huge and could probably store all of the bags of a full family for a two- week vacation. The handling is great and it takes corners better than the smaller car I had. The air suspension works very well and keeps the car level during turns and on the freeway.
Crown Vic LX Sport The Only One
This is my second Crown Vic, the first being a 2001 base model. The 2001 was a fine car but in 2003 Ford redesigned the front suspension and frame as well as the door panels. The result is the best car I have ever owned. The ride and drive are truly incredible. The frame has no annoying vibration even over chopy pavement. The LX SPORT has very large and comfortable seats with larger tires and a console. I bought mine for $24,990 and feel that it is one of the best new car values out there. The 2004 LX drives very nice also, you can order the handling package on it for just $640. Finely the base model is in my opinion the best new car value out there. With
Consider the CV
I was trying to find a clean used Marauder, but no luck, so I found the CV LX Sport. It is a great vehicle. Solid, quiet, large cabin, great controls with the Sport package. Nice ride quality and decent mileage for a V8. Huge trunk. Absolutely no problems to date. The 4.6 SOHC is OK, but Ford should consider putting an optional 5.4 SOHC performance motor in it, but I think that they are phasing out the "Panther Platform" pretty soon. A great value in a full sized car.
NOT WORTH THE PRICE
CAR IS NOISY- SEATS ARE NOT VERY COMFORTABLE -VERY FEW APPOINTMENTS FOR A CAR OF THIS PRICE. COULD HAVE BOUGHT A CADILAC SEDAN DEVILLE WITH LESS THAN 10000 MILES AND ABOUT 3 MONTHS OLD FOR THE SAME PRICE WITH A BETTER WARRANTY
Great bang for the buck
Others rate fuel economy as poor yet this car will give you 35 mpg Cdn (28 US). Try it. Non interstate routes 60 mph (Ottawa to Orillia and return) passing normally, booted it twice and got 34 mph. Amazing car and it's about as fast as a Hemi PU truck. Pricing is fantastic. $20,000 Cdn for a $41,000 car a year old and about 20,000 miles. Look at the whitest model and you will see one of the most beautiful cars around plus others will pull over and let you pass. Wearing a hat helps. There is nothing like the sound of a V8 as you all know.
Review
An excellent car for the money! Fun to drive for a large car, good on gas (average 22mpg on the highway- and I don't drive slow). Very safe feel to it in all weather conditions. Lots of guts, it's no slug! Only complaint is the headlights are not as bright as other cars I've owned, but a good set of aftermarket fog lamps and problem solved.
Tons of unexpected fun!
Yeah, we all know that we'll get called "Grandpa" for driving one of these but it's serious fun. Mine is deep grey/black, dual-exhaust and all tinted. Watching all those speeders suddenly slow down is a laugh, and this beast has endless power. The styling is good, mileage is surprisingly good for a large car, and its super safe and comfortable. They might call me Grandpa, but I'm enjoying every moment on the road with a big smile on my face.
Goodbye Honda!
Traded a Honda Accord which had problem after problem for the Crown Victoria after having rented one on a business trip. I will say I did hear a few comments from the family after doing so. But I now have a reliable and very safe car. Truly the most overlooked vehicle on the road.
She's my pilot
I love my Vic. She's been thru it all and is a trooper. She has been the best running vehicle I've ever known. The only thing I don't like is the rear wheel drive. She'll get c away from ya if ya don't know what you're doin. My ex boyfriend found that out recently. I couldn't imagine not having her, she's my pilot and super easy on gas.
Amazingly reliable, tough, comfortable
Bought from a Police auction with 64k miles for only $1000. Was a detectives vehicle so no inmate cage, but had front push bar, full lights, sirens, and a computer set up all of whid not come from ford and have no bearing on this review. However this P71 is awesoms, not a speed demon but plenty of power and reliability out of its 4.6l engine, its higher ride height and bigger brakes/suspension make a world of difference. It had plenty of room inside, and floated down the road. It never once left me stranded. When i sold the vic she had 341k original miles on her original everything except a pcv valve, and a radiator. Everything else was just standard maintenance.

Good, fun, cheap, and FAST
I love my '04 P71. I've had very few issues with it in the year and a half of owning it. Found it sitting in a field for 7 years and rescued it, all I did was put a new starter and fuel pump and she's been running great ever since. Bought it at 107,000 miles and currently have 126,000. Love scaring people while on the highway with the push bar and dual spotlights with all-black paint, definitely an attention grabber. Overall I get about 12-15 mpg city and 19-24 mpg highway due to the shorter 3.55 rear end, however, all of that gas makes it worthwhile hearing the 4.6 come to life. Only major issues not involving the engine I've ran across are window motors and steering shaft stiffness. But those are very easy to replace and once you do it, it feels like a brand new car!

I hate to see her go
I am trading my 04 Crown (my 5th one), only because I am going to modernize to a Lincoln MKS. Got a good price. These are the best cars ever made. It took me longer to buy a taillight bulb, than it did to replace it. So on and so forth.

Great car!
Wonderul piece of machinery, winderful styling, nice interior and comfortable. Very good on the road and handles very easy. I have used the traction control and it works great. The performance of this car is outstanding, it meets or exceeds my expectations in all areas.
Last of the best big sedans,
great car. Excelaent build quality and performance. Very comfortable and lots of compliments on the black on black color scheme. Looks like a state trooper coming up behind you and the road magically clears. On the freeway I average 23mpg. 25K miles and no problems.
Love the size!
Since purchasing my first new car in 1968 (a Ford), I've also driven Mercurys, Lincolns and Cadillacs. The wife currently drives a 99 Town Car and I traded my 96 Cadillac for this Crown Vic! I like the rear-wheel drive and the handling & power that comes with the Crown Vic.
Crowm Vic LX Sport
A joy to drive, powerful engine pulls away as smooth as silk. Comfortable, and I prefer styling to the Grand Marquis. Big big stylish car, definitely go for the sport version. Excellent value for money
Sleeper
I love cars and have always been attracted to BMWs and Mercedes and Acuras, However, I found myself admiring the CV. I drive about 30K a year. I have had the car for two months and I love the fact the car is big, comfortable, tight, pretty good looking and not $40K. Plus like Mercedes are used arround the world as taxis, so is the CV in the USA. In NYC they beat on them.
If it is not broke don't fix it
I love this vehicle. Room, comfort, large trunk, a real car, a poor man's Lincoln.
My Crown
I purchased this car to drive mainly on the highway. It is an extremely excellent highway car. For the size it gets very good mileage. It has plenty of power and corners much better than expected. (Don't try to outrun one of these in the police car dressing, you can't.)
My Ford
runs great, very solid, good pickup, nice styling. Gas mileage not so great, but good for a v-8. Runs great on the highway
Great Car
i love this car ..
owner
these are realy good cars. we currently own 2 but we have owned 4. this car is a classic and part of a dying breed of automobiles. i love its large size.
Best Ford buyI purchased
I purchased this vehicle at a sale through the dealer buyer with 10,500 miles on the odometer> It had it's first check-up at 13,000 and everything was up to factory specs. I've had nothing but good service up to the present at 16,000 miles. This is my second Crown Vic, the other being a 1996 which my son now owns and continues to run good at 96000 miles.
Love this car
LX Sport. Very comfortable ride. Great power. Like the center console shift. nice for downshift braking on hills. Great passing power even with 4 adults
Quality &Comfort Without the Hype
The C. V. is used for taxis and law enforcement because of their durability, safety and performance. My last car a Mercedes E class is also used as a taxi in Europe. Great V8 power, style, safety and comfort. Simply a good car for a very good price. A V8 Bmw or Mercedes will run you $20-40K more. As for the SUV craze I dont get why people give up highway performace for off road capabilty they will never use.
Cruisin in a Crown Vic
Flyin down the highway with little or no worries.... A very dependable full size sedan!
Love the car
I love the car
Comfortable and economical
I get up to 26 MPG on the highway in full comfort and luxury! What more can you ask for in transportation?
MORE BAN FOR YOUR BUCK
Fantastic large car, nimble for its siz and weight. Large cavernous trunk, perfect for travelling. I don't get tired as easy because of the adjustable seating for the driver. All controls are within eay reach and entry and egress is easier than in most cars. My experience so far has me convinced that Ford is doing something right.
last canadian crown
I couldn't be happier...I'm 6'5", 300 pounds and have spent far too much time in cars built for average sized people. It's effortless driving this car. It's too bad Ford no longer sells the Crown Vic in Canada.
Great Fun Car
This is a great fun car a lot of go with a good gas rating get the big motor handling package and go big time.
The only one for me
I find the looks of the LX Sport to be perfect. Not too much chrome, and perfect trim with the icing being the wheels. Strong look. Strong ride with amazing comfort. I don't always like where I'm going, but I love driving this car there. I don't want any other car.
