Truck had no problems until it hit 80,000 miles. My radiator hoses gave way. 7000 miles after that my boyfriend who is a mechanic decided to run a compression test on the cylinders, to find my truck literally was limping on 2 cylinders. We were going to rebuild the motor but when we pulled the oil pan off we found huge shards of metal shavings (chunks) and that factory torqued Bolts were finger tight. Not for nothing but we had the truck maintained at the dealership from date of purchase in 09 every 3000 miles, on the dot. No reason this motor should've crapped out at 87000. Replaced the motor with an atk remanufactured motor $3000 dollars later (no labor we did it ourselves). Get the motor in, on test drive notices the rear end was whining. So, ordered a rear dif from Yukon, opened up the stock rear end to find nothing but broken pieces in the cover. Looked like a bag of change. The Yukon rear end is awesome now. Once replaced that I was driving to work to now notice an engine knock. Called atk (where I got motor) and was told "keep driving it, it'll go away". 200 miles later blows a rod through the oil pan . Pistons, crank, rings all internals in 2 cylinders grenaded. Long story short, check compression, if it's bad part ways.

Ram needs a few details added

2009 Ram Laramie 5.7l is a super truck so far. Only have a few hundred miles on it. Economy not impressive. Big beef that Chrysler released it without finalizing detail like a lock for the tail gate. Not even yet available to change it.

This truck is so well designed nothing else come close. Unfortunately it is not all that well executed. Smart things: roughly 400 ft lbs torque; Rambox cargo management (super duper awesome); sotrace in general; great ride; great at pulling; nice sunroof; lots of cool storage places; decent sound system; really cool DVD player behind the radio screen; very capable off road; very comfortable and roomy front and back; seats 6; built in inverter; remote start works from thousands of feet away; great in snow; hauling and towing capacity; beefy suspension and brakes; hardle any rust even after 13 michigan winters on salted roads . Dumb things: two irridium spark plugs per cylinder (tune up costs $400); electronics go beserk (key fobs eventually had to be wrapped in foil to avoid randomly setting off alarm, starting turck, rolling down windows, etc, when just sitting there; drivers side heated seat only worked when it was over 40 degrees outside;tailgate super heaver and assist kept breaking; tools wore a hole int he rambox on one side; dim headlights even when new and really bad when older (drive with fog lights on for addded light); headlights wire too short to change bulbs without a second person to hold the lens assembly; take like ten things off the truck to change headlight bulb (including removing the entire grill); rear axle nut falls off (recall); bed is too high to reach into without a ladder (and I am 6'1"); late life expensive electrical problems (BCM went out, radio went beserk; remote start stopped working, sunroof quit working, a few other issues; engine seized up at 220,000 miles - disappointing. Overall I loved this truck despite the disappointing early engine failure at only 220,000 miles. In fact I replaced it with basically the exact same truck only a 2018. The 2018 corrected some of the problems, but added some new ones.

I bought an 06 Quad Cab with 20" tires only to have Dodge buy it back after three months due to not being able to balance the tires. Ended up with an 06 Mega Cab that was great and ended up trading it in on a new SLT Crew Cab only to have the same trouble as I did in 06 with the Quad Cab. It has been in the garage each week that I have owned it for tires. They have tried Goodyears and BF Goodrichs with no success and I believe that it is up to around 7 different sets. It is a shame that a great looking truck still has the same issues as they did back in 06. They say it swallowed a Luxury car but evidently it forgot to eat the wheels!

Poor support from Dodge

I have had a vibration problem since I bought the truck. It is a 1500 Laramie top of the line fully loaded. It came with a bent drive shaft, four bad rims, bad tires, poor paint (dirt in the paint, clear coat runs) Rough edges around the rear bumper. Very poor quality control. The regional manager says the truck is supposed to vibrate when you go down the road. It feels like you have a bent rim. I have had no support in trying to get it fixed right. I will never buy a Dodge product again. It's a shame, because they designed a very nice truck. It is the lack of support and the poor quality control that came with the truck I am unhappy about. Also the dealers I have used in Florida have poor service.
