I'll buy another in a heartbeat
I love my 2009 Journey. In 40,000, I've had no problems. Replaced the brakes at @ 32K, a little earlier than I'd expect, but not bad. The service at our local dealership is tremendous. Perfect family vehicle - roomy, very comfortable, interior is easy to clean LOTS of storage. My only complaint - the light colored seats, so I put a blanket under the kids' car seats to catch the inevitable mess. When it's time to retire this one, I'll definitely buy another.
STAY AWAY!
I purchased a 2009 Dodge Journey with just over 159,000 miles on it back in November 2020. It was being offered at a pretty low price and unfortunately I was in desperate need of a vehicle so I ended up purchasing this car. Worst mistake ever. In the 7 months I owned this vehicle (driven about 3000 miles) I had to replace the catalytic converter, spark plugs, front tie rod ends, and power steering hose. Also this car has some serious electrical issues (often times the car doesn't start and I need to keep trying over and over again) and makes an odd metallic scratching noise on the right passenger tire (which mechanics have not been able to identify). To make matters worse, repairs and parts for this vehicle are costly (tires are an odd size therefore they are really expensive and also it has 2 catalytic converters??). I ended going to the mechanics over a dozen times in that period. I had constant anxiety driving this vehicle as it would always make an odd noise or have a check engine light turned on every time I drove more than 30 minutes. The performance was also mediocre and this car ate gas like no tomorrow. I ended up selling and bought a much more reliable car. It is more economical to flush your money down the toilet than it is to purchase this vehicle.

One of the lucky ones
Review how often brakes and rotors get replaced. Make sure there are NOT aluminum caps on tire stems. I bought brand new and have had few problems. I know have to get a tranny and cost is unreal. Other than that it has been a good vehicle for me. I used to drive it 20k miles plus annually but now I do mainly city driving. Think it does better going long range where I got 35 plus mpg a fee times. Will keep it till it dies (or I do).

A money sucking pig
I bought my 2009 Journey SXT in the spring of 2014 with 73k. Nice looking vehicle. Ride and seating comfort very good. The first problem was the dome light didn't work. A simple fuse to change, right? Turned out there was an overload in the circuit somewhere. Multiple fuse changes resulted in blowing again in a few minutes. Never resolved. The overall maintenance was low for the first four years and until the odometer got to 100 K. Then serious expenses came. A front axle replacement (much too soon ), issues with the starter not working and loss of electrical power altogether over 2 years. Finally tracked to a poor electrical ground, after unnecessary starter replacement and endless booster jumps. A/C went out. No leak found but system was empty. A recharge lasted a week. Another check revealed likely a leak likely inside where the heater is. $1500 to fix thank you. Did not. The right side ventilation quit working properly in some settings. Could have heat on left and cold on right at the same time. Again, too costly to fix. Then a failed rear wheel bearing and fuel injector at 113 K. About $1,000 to fix. This was the last straw. I found a nice vehicle to buy to replace the Journey. The dealer took it on trade and told me the transmission was going out by their test drive. I got half (with all new tires and near new brakes) of what it cost me to repair just in the last 2,000 miles of driving. At 115 K, the thing was pretty shot from significant items going bad prematurely. And I kept good maintenance on it, even system flushes twice on everything. Every Chrysler product vehicle I have ever owned had some thing(s) go bad early that were very costly. No more for me. Too expensive to maintain. I found a list of the worst vehicles to buy. 2009 Journey was number one. Then Grand Caravans. Hmmm.
