Can't Complain

I drove my Intrepid 165k miles before having to get rid of it (had 32k at purchase). With only routine maintenance a few medium repairs (Alternator and major brake work) coming in the last 50k miles. Good performance (especially highway), better than average interior, decent mileage for a car of its size and performance specs, and tons of trunk space. If you can find a 1998 and later model with decent mileage, buy it.

We bought our Intrepid in 98 with 26k miles. Having all family out of state, we put a lot of miles on our vehicles. This car had nothing but strange problems - the tensioner when out at 70k, starter at 36k, oil sending unit wiring harness at 96k, AC condenser and cooling fan motor at 99k. Two weeks ago, at 102k, the engine caught fire in our driveway. Insurance is calling it a total loss. We must admit that after all the problems, we weren't surprised by the spontaneous combustion and are quietly relieved to be free of this car. Both of us come from Chrysler product families. Never again. This one nearly cost us our home.

I purchased the vehicle less than two years ago with 60k on it. I have put on nearly 40k miles and the odometer now reads 98k. I have had NO major problems what-so-ever. I have just performed the regular maintenence items, change oil, oil filter, put K&N drop in air filter. Changed the rotors, pads and tires. New plugs when I bought the car. The huge trunk can easily accomidate luggage for a week for 4-5 adults, plus drive them along! The Auto-Stick feature is great on the ES model. The extra HP in the ES over the base model really gives the car more kick. Concrete car from Dodge/Chrysler!

My 98 Intrepid

I purchased this 1998 Intrepid used from a Buick Dealership. This being my first Chrysler purchase, I was astonished at this vechicle. The car has NASCAR looks about her and handles excellent. Having owned several Corvettes and numerous muscle cars in my past, I still can't get over the value Chrysler has packaged into this low priced domestic automobile. In the future, Chrysler will be my first consideration when purchasing my next vechicle. I love my Intrepid!

I bought my 1998 Intrepid ES new in 1998. After 321,000 miles I still love this car. It still runs well even though it's beginning to show it's age. If Dodge still made them, I would buy another without a second thought.

Bought with 42,000 miles and racked up 160,000 Miles. I like the pep of the ES engine. Nice room inside (I'm 6-6). The auto stick is fun and useful when driving bumper to bumper traffic. Just pop into 2nd gear until you clear the traffic. I originally bought to have a large car now I keep for the good mileage. On the highway I'm at 30mpg. I'm surprised that no other large car gets better mileage in 10 years! Sure it has its issues and I've kept up with major maintenance like timing belt (a must at 100k miles). Some electric glitches and interior fading from the sun but it's held up well. The clear coat is now starting to peel but not too bad. If I keep forever a paint job would be in order.

I own a 1998 Dodge Intrepid with 182,000 miles and it still runs without a problem. I can say I got the good built 2.7 because I've never experienced any problems with it since I've had it for the past year. I keep up on the maintnence I get my motor cleaned often and change the plugs every once in a while. I love this car and am glad it's been good to me. I don't know anyone that has an Intrepid with 182,000, miles.

I bought this car, in perfect shape, with 53K miles on it. I've religiously changed the oil and it now has 94K on it. This is NOT high for high quality car. In 3 months, the engine went from being trouble free to burning a qt of oil/week. Diagnosis: top end needs rebuilding. No REPUTABLE or HONEST mechanic or rebuild shop will touch it. Daimler Chrysler uses build techniques and equipment that shops can't duplicate. I can buy another 2.7L motor from a junkyard or a dealership at one heck of a price (quoted $4K to $8K). I've had 3 other problems: faulty oil pressure sensor, power window motor failure, and engine accessory belt pulley bearing failure.

I just bought my 98 intrepid and the dealership checked it out and said it was in perfect condition. Within 2 weeks the alternator went out and now the body shop is telling me to prepare for a new tranny!!! I only paid 5,000 for the car and as of now it is costing me an additional 4,000. I was warned to never buy a dodge I just wished i had listened

This car has to maintained often, if not you will find yourself with serious problems. It has a nice ride and is a overall great car when it chooses to be. This car has many flaws and I would not recommend it to a friend because you will end up putting more money into then you'll every purchase it for.

I have had this car for four years now and it has 86,000 miles on it. The only problems I can say that I have had are the brakes. I have had the rotors turned several times and then replaced. My brake pads also seem to be replaced almost annually. This is the only complaint. Everything else has been great!

Vehcle is very fun to drive - ES has a lot of power. Great gas mileage for size of vehicle. Lots of head room in front & back seats for your 6ft+ passengers. Trunk space can fit 2 adult mountain bikes, stroller and lots of camping gear w/o putting the back seats down. Comfortable for long road trips (Es has auto seats that recline almost flat).

I'm only doing this because you showed fuel economy 20 mpg. I get 30 mpg highway even got 32 mpg all the way across Wyoming on 85 octane. Checked mpg closely last August - carefully - got 30 mpg exactly. Current odometer 99k. I'm 78 yrs old. Owned several Chryslers and Dodges and Fords. Chrysler was better by far.

I think this could be one of the most underrated cars in the last 10-15 years. I am the original owner. It has respectable performance & handling. It gets great gas mileage. I have gotten 30 MPG on the highway and 23+ around town. Keep in mind this is not a small car. I rent cars all week being a traveling sales guy. I also own 7 other cars. This car is a still amazes me. 203K Miles and still very strong. No issues until the car had 125K on it. Recent repairs have included the air cond system, and the computer system. A few other minor repairs but this car never had a problem in the first 8 years of ownership. Like the design better then the Charger

One of the best looking large cars on the market, the Intrepid ES has room rated in the limo class in some areas. With 38K miles and only the front brakes serviced, it's been my experience that Intrepids are very reliable. This is my second Intrepid ES, and the first one had only the A/C and brakes serviced. The ES trim package is well worth it.

I love the look of this car and really enjoy driving it....when it works. The great looks are more than offset by the significant quality issues I've had since the day I purchased it. First it was electrical problems (which have continued to this day) such as all dash lights going out and the overhead console lights going out. Then the car just doesn't start at least once per year. And now the heat cuts out and the car overheats. All I can say is never again! I'll never buy a Chrysler product again.

I love this car, correction.. I loved her. She was by far the hardest car I have to replace. She kept running way past 255,000 miles. But sadly, she was rear ended and considered totaled. Its been so hard to find a vehicle with all these options she had, such as the overhead console that told me my mpg and temp outside, I loved the leather seats and how big she was. The gas mileage was actually really great, the acceleration was nice and everything worked really well! I barely had any issues with her, maybe put $300 in her with the three years I had her (my parents owned her prior to me). The looks of this car was nice, sleek and clean. I really loved this car when I bought it, but at 61,000 miles, I believe it is going to be a service department's gold mine. I've had the left front hub assembly replaced, it has been recalled 3 times, it has just started mis-firing when you start it up and when driving at highway speeds and the brakes are applied, the steering wheel starts shaking, I was told if the tie- rods have to be replaced, the engine has to be removed, Jeez..its time for it to go....

We got suckered into a five year lease when we wanted a three year. The car was fantastic for 3 and a half years. Thank goodness we have an extended warranty because since then the car has been on a flatbed at least twice a year with major problems. This past month the car was at the dealership for two straight weeks while a part was on back order. Again, my car is in the dealership and they want to charge me $275 for a bad battery and terminal-it isn't covered under the warranty. No wonder the Intrepid is listed by Consumer Reports as one of the worst cars to buy used!!!

Fast enough to get you a hefty speeding ticket but not fast enough to outrun a police cruiser! This car is quite good if you take care of it. Yes it doesn't run like a $50000 luxury model but what did you expect? Good value for a large car. Ask around your town for opinions about local dealers, I've had good service where I've bought it but bad experiences with the ability of other dealerships to perform maintenance when I'm out of town,

The most recent 4 vehicles of my wife's and mine have been Chrysler products so I looked for another when someone rammed my Dodge Stratus (that I drove for 218,000 miles). I was able to find this Intrepid through the AutoTrader.com link from Edmunds while I was evaluating a Dodge Neon. The Intrepid is a remarkably smooth riding vehicle, especially considering that I purchased it used with 96,000 miles on it. I drive 45 miles one way on country New England roads each day and suffer from a fractured pelvis, the ride of the Intrepid is so smooth that I am able to handle the commute easily. The 2.7liter V6 engine has remarkable pick up and cruise ability. Handling in snow and rain is also great.

I didn't like the way the intrepid looked at first, but I test drove it off the lot, and feel in love with how well it handled. I drive in a lot of heavy traffic so I need power to get on the highways, and great brakes. This car has gone well behond my expectations of it. I would buy another one but my inprepid is still running just as good as when I bought it. For people with children, this car has plenty of room in the trunk for all that comes with having a child. I can fit two large strollers, and all my groceries with still plenty of room. I would tell anybody to consider the Dodge Intrepid. Mine has been a wonderful vehicle.

I purchased this car new and for 3 years was exceptionally pleased. The car was corporate maintained with regular service intervals. The transmission went out at 88k, $1,400 owwee. At 95k the radiator, water pump, fittings were replaced. Then the head gasket to failed, $2,700. 30k miles later the timing belt failed again damaging the valves. $2,400. More problems:battery, coolant, struts, brakes, front end fittings ...I could go on. I keep hoping I will recoup my repair investment, but I never do. I'm finished now. Tomorrow I pick up a used Navigator.

I bought the car new in May of 1998 after ordering a platinum exterior with camel leather interior (not the normal combination). Other than 2 transmission speed sensors (approx. $100 each) and the driver's side window regulator, this car has cost me nothing but regular maintenance. First set of brake pads at 113,000 miles, battery at 111,000, flush cooling system and transmission system at 116,000 miles. Oil changes every 3000 miles only cost $8.43 at the dealer. I sold my 94 ES to a friend and it is still being driven with 160,000 miles.

This is my second Intrepid. I was going to buy new, but did a search for a Candy-apple Red ES with Climate Control, the Infinity sound system, Trip Computer and a tan leather interior. Found one with only 16k miles, paid what they asked for it and it's been a real pleasure to own. Any car will go 100k miles these days with oil changes and new plugs every so often, and you get more car than a Honda.

With synthetic oil and transmission fluid this car served me well for seven years. Problems seen with this vehicle are generally due to following the recommended oil change schedule. 7000 miles is too long for normal oil and will get you sludge buildup. I had no sludge with synthetic oil. It still looks good and goes reasonably fast.

First let me say, while the car was running, I loved this car, but For the first 6 months the car seemed to be doing great, then after that, problem upon problem upon problem. I bought this car for $3000 and put probably another $3000-5000 in it for problems. In the end the head gasket went and I was done with this car, got a 2000 Mustang, love it! This car looks great, very comfortable, when it ran, it ran great, nice power, on the 3.2 engine at least. I love the looks of the car and the size, I love big cars, but I just had way too many problems with this thing.

The mileage is 20 mpg in town and on the road. It rides with a soft ride and is easy to drive. It has no big problems that I know of. The color makes it look classy and the style of the body is very sporty. I just want a newer car with dependability--or I would keep it!

We have a 98 Dodge Intrepid with 66,000 miles and the engine blew up! We paid 10,000 for it a year ago and now we're lucky to get $2000. To replace the engine it will cost between $5000-$7500!!!!!! I will never buy another Dodge! We ran a CarFax report and there were no problems. It has had regular maintaince and oil changes. The Dodge intrepid recieves a "9" for looks but a "0" for overall reliabilty! By the way there is a 99 that looks exactly like ours with the same engine in the trading post with the same problem, a bad engine!!!

First new car I'd ever owned, happy that it was this choice. Pretty decent car for the first completely built by computer. Gets around good in all kinds of weather conditions. Even though it's the 2.7 standard model, the power is still there when you need it, and the comfort is there all of the time. At almost 50,000 miles, I am hoping to have a long, continued contentment with this car. I love the looks of it so, that I still baby it, and park it out in the back 40s so it won't get scratched. I have taken good care of this car, and it has taken good care of me in return.

Had to buy a used car with high mileage because it was all I could afford. It had 70,000 on it and 2 years later I have 130,000 on it. I put a set of tires on it at Wal-Mart (could not afford another set of Good year Eagles because they don't wear very well). At 100,000 I took it to the dealer and had them change the spark plugs like the manual recommends. All other routine maintenance was done by me, oil and air filters, PCV and brakes etc. NO major repairs needed! The 200 hp motor has plenty of power and gets 30 mpg when cruising at 70! Trading it on a 2001 next week.

I fell immediatly in love with it. The seats were comfortable, the car drove great. Everything about it was just what I always wanted. Until I got it home. So far it has died on a off ramp of a highway after the cruise control kicked in automatically and i couldn't stop the car, I took the next exit off the highway and it died. That was the relay sensor.we had to bring it in twice for that problem. Then we were at a gas station, and once in our driveway when the car died. We had to join AAA just to get this car towed to the dealership these two times was due to the battery terminal being corroded. and just resently The car died again, same thing.

I have to say that my 98 white intrepid es is a beaut. It's too bad though that I've had to take it to the dealership for repairs one too many times. Brakes are the most troublesome and I've noticed that the poor plastic quality inside the car is coming off. Another fault though not from the car is the dealership serivce. It stinks! I've tried three or four closest to my neighbourhood and they are all terrible. Times like this I wish I bought a lexus. Would I buy this car again? Maybe not, I think that for the money I'd rather buy a used audi a8.

I have found this vehicle to be the best car to drive. It has good pick-up and who can deny that it's really fun to drive. I love my car.

Best styling even in 2022!!!!, for a 24 year old car, it still doesn't look old, Gets good fuel economy for a large car, handles well, the 3.2 litre engine keep's this car on the road all these years later, still Runs like it did in 1998, original exhaust system is still on the car with no issues, 180,000 miles later, daily driven, the one issue this car has is peeling paint on the Roof and trunk lid, id only recommend the Intrepid ES with the 3.2 Engine, as the base engine is not built to last at all. The car has had some heavy servicing, mainly the Radiator in 2022 and all it's hoses and the Alternator, not Bad for a old car.

This car drives really good. Most of the miles are highway miles. I enjoy driving this car all the time.
