A problematic vehicle
Having purchaed a 1993 Dodge Caravan that gave us 8 years of trouble free service we did not hesitate to get a new one in 2001. However, while very comfortable it has proved to be a mechanically poor buy. We have purchased a new alternator, many rotors, the A/C is gone, and it now needs a new transmission, water pump, and a number of other more minor repairs. I would not recommend this vehicle I am sorry to say.
Good soccer mom/family ride
Solid ride, fairly quiet inside, peppy motor.

Family Passenger for All around Purpose
Driving our Sport Caravan is perfect for short and long trips. Comfort is exceptional with 12 year old twins. Maintenance has been minimal and gas mileage averages around 16 in town and 20 on highway.
Good Looking Van
If you need a van, I like ours. We've had this for about 3 years. No problems except power window went out on passenger side. Average mpg 20 plus. Power is good, enough get up and go. I think it's the sportiest van around.
WE LOVE IT
I traded my 99 Voyeger (short version) to this 2001 GC. It is running well, quite comfortable ride. I purchased Chrysler extended warranty to have peace in mind. All ij our family (3 kids) love it.
3's a charm, third TRANNY that is !!!!
With less than 36K our Grand Caravan is on it's third transmission. The first tranny lasted 32K, the second 3K, and your guess is as good as mine on the current tranny. The service from the dealer we purchased from has been great, but I want a reliable van. If that isn't bad enough when our van was returned after the third tranny, I noticed the steering started to vibrate the entire van when turning corners at low speeds. It was fixed under warranty of course but my warranty is up shortly and I have lost faith. Take it for what ever it's worth, thought I should let people know.
It's been a great ride!
After 6 years of mostly city driving, my van has not missed a beat. It still looks great, runs well, and I've had very few minor issues with it. I had 1 in 1998, which ended up the victim of a powerful rear-end collision in 2001. Because of the way the Grand Caravan took the impact, I went and bought another one in 2001. I will certainly buy again.
Not Happy With This One
Bought this at 55,000 miles. Not a bad price but a month after purchasing it the air compressor went and an electrical problem got us stuck in Chicago for 4 days. Then the air compressor went 2 more times after that. Also strange noise in the front end which I see many people complained about. Struts were hanging in the bottom when first purchased. Then this year in May the transmission went with the AWD system. Got stuck in Maryland for 2 days and had to go back down and get it after spending $2200 to fix it. Brakes going and muffler so we got rid of this one. This car cost us $15000 when purchased and we have spent $4000 on total repairs of only 2 years.
It's been a good van
Bought this van in late summer 2006; it had 99,000 miles on it when I got it. (I've been buying high-mileage cars for about 10 years, with minimal problems.) This is a very comfortable van; noticeably more comfortable than our '99 SE. Problems since purchasing: new AC compressor - worked fine when I bought it, conked out a month later; new regulators for both front windows; I replaced the power steering reservoir to eliminate the cold weather noise that's characteristic of this vintage Chrysler van; had some seals replaced to eliminate engine leaks. The only one of those repairs that I was surprised at was the AC compressor. After all, a lot of wear happens in 99,000 miles.
lots of little problems
We went for the top of the line fully loaded, have had nothing but problems. don't always act up when you take it to the dealership. Dealer has been great. atleast everything is on warranty but what happens when there is no more warranty. problems with tranny, electrical, computer, slider motor & chain, ect...
Dodge grand
Good all around vehicle.
A real multi purpose vehicle
My wife and I purchased our Caravan soon after our daughter was born, used, with almost 14,000 miles and have loved every bit of it. I traded in a Dakota, and it can do more than my truck did. The two back seats roll out, and the volume is tremendous. On the highway, I average 28 mpg., with the 3.3 liter. My sister has a popular SUV, and her interior space is MUCH more limited, in a vehicle that gets much poorer gas mileage!!?? Long after I don’t need a kid mover, I’ll still have a Caravan because of it’s usefulness.

I bought it used 2001-39000ml for $12,500 with new tires and keyless entry. Not bad at all. The 3.3L engine has very good pick-up but it slows down if you really try to rev it up. I average 18MPG. This could be better! A hybrid engine or turbo diesel would help quite a bit on the fuel economy side. Road handling is surprisingly good, car like, but in a sense, driving its better because of the nice view from up there. Comfort: low engine/aerodynamic noise (even if they cheap out on engine sound shielding), smooth shifting. Driver seat feels a little cheap. Sometimes the door armrest squeaks. Internal space is gorgeous, kids love it.
just bought
I just bought a new left over 2001 ES GC. It has too many options to mention and I think I got it for a good deal of $28K. MSRP was $35.5 new. So far so good. We tried the 2002 MPV and Odyssey and the Dodge appears to give best bang for buck
Not Happy!!!
Bought this minivan only two months ago. Already a/c went out, pass. side door trim (exterior) fell off. But gas mileage is decent for a seven year old vehicle. Wish it had center console, dealer didn't know where it was and it was over $400.00 from Dodge! Also no owner's manual.
Don't buy a Dodge
In the first year- the drivers side windshield wiper arm fell off during rainstorm- passenger side windshield stopped working during snowstorm and the rear wiper moter burned out. With no lumbar support the driver's seat is very uncomfortable. Design is boring and lacks flair!! Only get's about 20mpg and stickers for $27,000!! Go figure!!
