Used 1999 Dodge Durango SUV Consumer Reviews
60K mil Report
We had the water pump go out about 56,000 miles. The tires on the car wear down very fast. Seems like every quarter we are buying a new tire. The air controls don't blow when putting the button on air at the top and feet for some reason. Same problem was happening on our 99 Dakota. Dealer ordered the part but never called again to say in and then it was out of warrenty. The truck drinks gas like crazy!
Pleasure to own..........
Bought the suv on lease purchase plan and decided to keep it based on vehicle performance. Intake gasket replacement is the only issue that we have had and has over 40,000 mile on vehicle. Don't care for the gas mileage, but it WILL pull a load. Inside in comfortable, with plenty of room. Been a good family vehicle.

Learning Experience
I bought the Durango because it had 7 passenger seating and was NOT a mini- van. I wanted the security of 4x4 since we have ice & snow 9 mo out of the year. Turns out the Durango is quite squirly on the ice, the rear end swings out, and it comes standard with 4 ply tires which are no good in rural areas or mixed dirt & pavement. Lots of flats. Oh and no anti-lock braking if the 4x4 is engaged.
Fit the bill - and delivered
I got what I expected. Purchased new off the lot. Needed 7 seatbelts. Only thing to go wrong in 4 years was the battery. Dealer arranged pickyup, replacement, and return. Bought for 31K, sold for 18K (held for just over 4 years).
On a positive note
Funny on how many people complain about the gas mileage on this Durango. 13 To 16 miles to the gallon. What are they comparing it to?? Remember this is a V8 and not a wimpy V6. Look at the other V8 sport uts on the market and you'll see that they ALL get around the same MPG !!! We are pleased with our Durango. It has given us 63,000 problem free miles. Do ALL you recommened service intervals for problem free ownership. And it's still rattle free on these horrid Michigan roads.
