Terrific handling; quick response; plenty of cargo space for a one month visit across country. We've driven this car 2500 miles from Midwest to FL and back, 20 mpg. City mpg is 16. Console between front seats is problematic. Any plug into cigarette lighter blocks easy access to to cup holders. Rear view for backing is not good. Rear blind spots too big. We don't have that rear view option, but a friend who has one in his 2009 Traverse says he doesn't use it.

Only have 1100 miles on this traverse so far but have not had any problems. We have 6 children so a minimum 8 passenger was required. Much better gas economy than the 12 passenger Express. Is my wife's car and so far she is satisfied, time will tell.

tired of tired mini-van with no towing capacity... but loved the 3 rows of seats and DVD player and gas mileage of van. Happened upon the traverse and happily traded in. Added on everything but sunroof and backup camera...even 2-tone leather seating. Wife loves it and kids love it... and Dad doesn't mind driving it either!

Our Traverse LTZ took us cross country!

We bought our 2010 Traverse LTZ Sept. 21st in NC and left for Nevada Sept. 25th. When not driving in heavy 50 MPH headwinds in Arizona, we average 24.4 MPG at 7 MPH over posted speeds. My wife purchased plastic storage containers for our clothes, which we selected the next days wear from when stopping at hotels. Both second and third row seats remained folded flat to maximize needed storage for 5 weeks! The ice chest for bottled water rode strapped in with seat belt across the two second row bucket seats. One flat tire in Las Vegas was caused by construction material & repaired by the local dealership. An oil change was needed in Texas upon our return route. We were very comfortable.

I have approximately 2,200 miles on this vehicle and it is in the shop for the 4th time. Engine light comes on and car does not run properly. The dealer's service department can't figure it out, but stated that GM has had this problem on a number of cars. I have had similar problems with my Tahoe.

Lt1, jewel coat, 2nd row captains chairs, towing pkg. Hard fought battle down to the cx-9 / traverse. 2mos of digging, reading forums, comparing. Arcadia, enclave, pilot, Veracruz out (between 3-10k higher for the same 3rd row, awd features). Had I more money to spend, I may have considered 1 of the others. Fit and finish was very good. Interior was good, but with power port to close to cup holder on console. Exceptional ride and responsive handling. Mileage hwy den-cheye @70-78, as advertised. 6 on exterior design, front clip has to much drag. Cheesy top rail design, good for collecting debris, dirt, and pine needles. If you're going to design such a rail, do so with a top cap! Otherwise ++++

I really like the car for its ride, looks and features, but my AWD is supposed to average 19 MPG and I don't get above 16 with 50% city and 50% highway. Averages 12 around town and 21 on highway versus the 16 and 23 advertised. And I am a conservative 58 year old driver.

The minivan had high miles, AC, door issues, and showing transmission issues plus we were tired of no tow power and also of 'mom' van image. Traverse is all the Uplander was not. Great incentives, design and features, dealer added bluetooth and remote start. We added 2-tone black/gray leather seats, heat warmers and DVD player as dealer after-market installs.. that's the way to go folks! Custom leather design for no more money and to my taste and better quality leather. Just wish center row seats were removable or easier to get to 3rd row for my teenagers.

Growing family. Researched Odyssey, Sienna, Acadia, Enclave. Chevy has done an exceptional job melding family car practicality and economy with cool car styling and pep together into one. My wife and I LOVE driving it, kids seem happy too. Traverse is the perfect fit for us based on style, comfort options and cost. "Like a minivan buts its not", is the best way to put it. Had to punch it while merging to avoid a big rig there was no problem, lots of pep, even felt sporty. Excellent safety! extremely low road noise even with the dual sunroofs. Bose sound system is totally worth your dollar. The DVD system is awesome, keeps the kiddos so happy on the road. It felt good to buy American.

We are very satisfied with this car. It's fun and easy to drive, and it has plenty of power. We love the side mirrors, the back up camera, and the cargo space. Actually, one of the main reasons we decided on the Traverse was because of the generous cargo space. We purchased running boards and think they are a must, and should be an automatic part of the car.

I downsized from a Yukon to save gas and I am very disappointed with this vehicle. It's only getting about 3 - 4 miles per mile better mileage than the Yukon and it rates nowhere near the Yukon from my experience in the week I have owned the Traverse. Buy a Yukon or Tahoe instead and you will be happier.

I just traded my sport truck off for the vehicle for reliability and for the three kids, I am impressed with it a lot better than the $30k Uplander that GM bought back from us last year because of major problems! The Traverse handles good, lots of power, rides like a truck with the 18's and sets high for pride ha,ha gas mileage is not what I expected we get about 20 mpg avg I think it will be better when I put synthetics in the engine after first oil change. And I wish we would of got the LT2 with entertainment package and the 2nd row captain's chairs for the kids but all in all it's a great replacement for a minivan, for people like me with pride, no more guys doing the minivan walk of shame!

We traded our Jeep Liberty in for the Traverse because we have two children and often drive to vacation destinations. The Traverse is a perfect alternative to a minivan, having lots of room for passengers and plenty more for cargo. Despite the extensive list of suggested improvements, this vehicle is a great vale compared to the others we looked at - the Acadia and the Enclave.

I bought my Traverse almost 4 months ago and have put on 8,000 miles. We took 6 adults from Wisconsin to Maryland on a trip and averaged 19-20 MPG fully loaded. Everyone was comfortable and had room to move. If we would have had to take two vehicles we would have had to have been getting 40 MPG and would not have been comfortable. I drive this vehicle daily and average 22-23 MPG. I am very happy with its performance. During the first 2,000 miles I could only get about 18 MPG.

I really like the performance but performance never give happy after buying. Now I am rethinking about Asian cars are best in fuel economy. One full tank ultra gas give me only 200 miles in city and highway driving, I am not too much crazy in diving but some times I accelerates bit. I am very comfortable with this vehicle except mileage.

We love our Traverse. However, my husband is 6-6 & we had to have the footrest removed which leaves a hole in the floor & 2 bolts sticking up. GM is trying to come up with a fix which seems to be pretty easy - create a flat cover instead of the foot rest. The foot rest takes of 3" of leg room. We bought the vehicle because we were told the foot rest could be removed without any problems. Just trying to get the fix completed. 100% satisfied otherwise. Our sales person was wonderful.

I've driven mini vans since the early 1990's and this vehicle is the next best thing for space and comfort. Actually had my heart set on replacing my 5 year old AWD Toyota Sienna, which was a lemon, with another Sienna, but the Traverse won. Lots of cheap plastic finish features in 2010 chevys, fords and toyotas we test drove. Gas mileage about as expected around 20 mpg. I chose fwd instead of awd to save $2000 and higher auto insurance for awd. Hoping I don't regret it. Relying on stability and traction control to get through northern US winters. On Star and satellite radio are a new treat for us. Nice features. I think Chevy did this one right and they must too, warranty is best I've seen.

We took our Chevy Traverse on vacation. We drove from Connecticut to Florida. Both our small children sat in the 2nd row. There was plenty of room for them, as well as our luggage. We stored our luggage by placing the third row down and there was plenty of room for everything, including all the souvenirs we purchased at Disney World. The Traverse handled very well through all different climates, altitudes and traffic conditions. We mostly drove during the night on cruise control with the A/C cracked up and we averaged 24 mpg, during higher mountain conditions we averaged 22-23 mpg. . If you need to tow a boat, consider the Tahoe, otherwise the Traverse with the Tow Package is the way to go.

Bought this crossover for my wife. Her Toyota Sienna was coming off lease. The Traverse was quieter, rode nicer, and had more power than the Sienna. We had also decided to give an American car company a look. My wife has been very pleased with the Traverse. We've been getting around 20 mpg around town and 23 mpg on the highway. Really like the back-up camera and the leather interior. Also looked at a Buick Enclave but it was significantly more expensive for essentially the same vehicle. So far, we've been very glad we went with a Chevy.

I have now had the Traverse for 10 months and it's extremely comfortable. Can't feel road bumps which is nice! I have a 1 hour commute each way with lots of traffic and get the promised 17 MPG in the city. Haven't had a chance to take a long road trip yet, but the couple of short trips we have taken, we are extremely happy. I have had full grown adults in the 3rd row and all have said the room is great. The only complaint I have is the side mirrors need to be redesigned. Water collects on them in the rain and makes it impossible to see, with the huge blind spots in this vehicle, the side mirrors are a must! I wish the sun/moonroof had a hard cover to block out sun when needed.

We bought our Traverse about 5 months ago and love it. With the second row captain's chairs there is little difference in space when compared to our previous minivan. The ride is comfortable and quiet, and the power is there when you need it. We use it to tow a 24 ft trailer (3700 lbs dry) - it tows it no problem, but you can feel the trailer behind you. Over all we are very happy with the vehicle, the only complaint would be the mileage. When we first bought it we were getting no where near the advertised mpg. However, now that we've put 5,000 on the vehicle the mileage is improving. I can now get the advertised mileage on the hwy if I drive 60 - 65+ and the mileage drops dramatically.

2010 Chevy Traverse Timing Chain ISSUES

I have a 2010 Traverse that was purchased brand new by my parents from Chevy dealership. We bought the car from them after passing of my father. We have 88,000 miles on the vehicle and it has been very well maintained with all of the proper oil changes. Low and behold check engine light comes on and my mechanic tells me the Codes P0008 and P0017 are due to Timing Chain needing to be replaced. He was amazed that it was needed with 88,000 miles. He sent over links about the issues that are known about this 3.6 L engine with both Acadia and Traverse. He said it would have to go to dealer and we would be looking at a cost of about $3500.00. As I research this issue it seems that this is a known issue and I see that the Acadia owners are receiving letters extending their warranty to 10 years/120,000 miles. I call the dealer...NO GO. I call GM...sorry NO GO. They questioned me on whether or not my mechanic was doing the 172 point check when I bring it in to him.....like that is the reason the Timing Chain went at 88,0000 miles.

I bought this car brand new back in 2010. Serviced it regularly and had many problems. Problem 1- Power Steering went out on this car after owning for 4 years. Problem 2 - Transmission had to be replaced exactly one year later from power steering issue. Problem 3 - Engine is ruined due to timing chain. (You can look and research it). I now own a rock on 4 wheels worth zero dollars. I cannot speak for other years on this model, but I know for certain that if you buy this specific vehicle you are playing roulette with your hard earned money. STAY AWAY FROM THIS VEHICLE! DO NOT BUY IT! Go find another SUV with a more reliability.

Timing chain, steering, A/C, etc

Jerry, 08/10/2018

Bought the car new and had it serviced by the dealer for at least 60K miles. The functionality of the car was great for my circumstances, and the performance and creature comforts were satisfactory. Then the AC had to be repaired which required removal of the dashboard. Hence a costly repair, but dealer's estimate was outrageous. I had it fixed elsewhere for 60% of that estimate which was still nearly $2K. Then I continued prescribed maintenance at a non-dealer. Then leaking struts and broken spring had to be replaced. Now, at 110,000 miles, the timing chain needs replacement ($3,500) which I see from recent research is a very common problem for this version of the Traverse. Also, the power steering failed (while making a turn). Thank goodness I was driving and not my wife! This apparently is also a frequent problem with this car. It needs new rack and pinion as well as replacement of the leaking steering fluid pump. Having owned many cars of various brands over 50+ years, this is the worst by far. If I were asked for an opinion, I would say DO NOT buy a used Traverse.

These things are prone to all kinds of engine malfunctions. Mine has been in and out of the shop since I bought it. The interior is nice and roomy, very comfortable. It's a pleasure to drive, when it's running. I've had to put so much money into this pos that it's currently sitting in my driveway with a whole side of the engine misfiring, so it's not driveable and I'm out of money that can be spent on it. A total waste.

2010 is the worst year for the Traverse

These vehicles depreciate in dog years. Transmission started slipping in year 4 and the dealership couldn't find the issue. Year 5 transmission went out and was replaced (not cheap). Subsequently, the radiator, A/C, hoses, went out over the next few months. Finally got rid of it. Even with regular maintenance, it was an overall nightmare. I hope the other years were better for this model than 2010.

My husband and I were in desperate need for an suv that fit our family of 7 in it and keeping our 5 children safe. We bought a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse with 148,000 miles on it for $12,000. I purchased one of the warranties because its not a low mileage car and some things may go wrong. I didnt realize every single thing on this car could break within 14 months of owning it. Week 1- timing chain gets replaced. Week 2- engine blows, engine replaced with Chevy engine Chevy OEM engine. I will provide a list of what has been replaced on the car in 14 months. I was stranded completely broken down 7 TIMES in 14 months, but have had it in the shop more than I could keep count of. WE HAVE 5 KIDS IN THIS CAR!! -timing chain replaced - engine replaced -power steering pump and lines - Alternator -battery -all 4 brakes and rotors (They hammered the wrong size pads in to kind of fit but destroyed my brake system) -rear shocks -struts -2nd power steering pump turns out last place that did it before charged us and only patched the problem and it blew on my way out of town for my grandfather's funeral. -throttle body -y exhaust rotted -wheel hub -rear washer motor -catalytic converters all 3 -6 fuel injectors and lines I have regular oil changes (hey it's in the shop anyway I dont think anyone does a better job keeping up with full synthetic oil changes.) Still check engine light, cant get inspected. We paid 12k for this car and about the same in repairs. STAY AWAY!!

Bought my 2010 Chevy traverse used in 2016 with 90,000 miles on her, and thankfully with a 3 year, 150,000 mile warranty. At 94,000 miles the engine blew. Warranty approved a new engine and we were good to go again. A few months later the A/C went out and after taking it to 4 different shops, no could figure out why it wasn’t working so I gave up and we deal with no A/C 4 years later. It’s had the front struts replaced twice and the back struts replaced once. The entire drivers side side of the vehicle has no sound from the speakers 90% of the time, the speakers are fine it’s a wiring issue. I’ve had to replace the motor that controls the side mirrors, and most of the time while driving my radio music is interrupted with the screen flashing “aux cord” even though there is nothing plugged in to the Jack. The back break lights have gone out twice as well as both blinkers. Don’t even get me started on the gas mileage. I’m lucky to get 13 mpg and I work 40 miles away from home. WARNING: it costs an arm and a leg to have a simple headlight replaced, however if you have small hands like me, removing a few screws and pulling the plastic back under the tires can get your headlight changed for free. I have ALWAYS driven a Chevy but I am disappointed in how they threw this car together. That being said, I do have some good to say. As a mom of 5 children, safety features in a vehicle is a must. This car handles like a beast in the snow and we get hit hard in the winter. I actually parked my 4x4 Chevy suburban and chose to drive the Traverse in the snow and have never felt unsafe. 2 years ago my children and I were rear ended when a car going 45-50 miles an hour didn’t see us in a turn lane. Let me tell you, this car stood like a freaking rock! The guy who hit me tore the entire hood off his car and smashed the drivers side front end. My traverse had minimal damage and hardly looked like it was hit and my kids were unharmed in the accident. I couldn’t believe how the car absorbed the impact and that alone has made me grateful for this vehicle. Despite all the electrical issues and blowing it’s motor she has continued to start up every day and get me to my destination(knock on wood because she’s making some noises lately) So overall the car has a lot of bad, but there is still some good. My car was a rental car before I purchased it so all my issues could have been related to poor maintenance by the rental company. I’d honestly give a newer traverse a chance in the future once my traverse finally craps out on me.

I love it; it's an awesome used vehicle, It even has AWD. It has Stabilitrak, power package, and electronic lumbar support. It is a very nice used vehicle and I got it at CarSmart in Lake City WA. Unfortunately, since I got the vehicle, some people vandalized the body which was in show room condition (metallic silver), with some dents, chips, and scratches. Too bad for jerk vandalizers.

The only thing I can say good about this vehicle is that it was a pleasure to drive when it decided to stay running and out of the shop. Spacious, comfortable, nice upgrades on the LTZ. This was the most unreliable vehicle that I have ever owned. The vehicle breaks down every couple of weeks and cost a fortune to repair and maintain. I dumped over $18,000 in repairs and maintenance on this SUV within 1.5 years. The engine blew and AC failed for the 4th time at that point and was going to cost over $10,000 just to replace the engine. I gave up at that point. The engine is tucked under the dash and has to be pulled out for a simple tune up or valve cover gasket replacement. The tire are ridiculously expensive, the battery is expensive and in the most nonsensical location. The AC is irreparable if it stops working. If the knobs break on the entertainment unit in the front, you have to replace the whole unit, you can't get replacement knobs. There are no seat covers available. You literally have to get them custom made to fit. I like how it looks, however, be prepared for people to refer to your beloved, sleek SUV as a minivan. Ugggg...it's NOT a van! Just don't.

Very fun to drive--doesn't feel like 5,000 pounds. Towed ATVs through mountain roads smoothly. Quiet. Backup camera a must. In fixing the reluctance to downshift, they went too far and mileage suffers. Getting 15 city and 21 highway despite very moderate driving. Overall, very enjoyable and functional vehicle.
