2003 Trailblazer ls 4wd is one of the best ones.
2003 Trailblazer ls 4wd is one of the best ones Chevrolet built. Heavy duty. Easy Service. A DIY will find it a pleasure to maintain. The divers seat is not as comfortable as it could have been. That is the only thing I found at a slight fault. Lots of power very cold AC Fantastic radio. Summer City mpg between 13-13.5 with 3.42 axle. Highway mpg is 18.4 to 19. Winter city lowered to 11 to 11.5 in just city cold winter driving. Why? Not a clue.****Found low mileage issue. One rear inner brake pad was stuck on rear rotor all the time because floating caliper bracket pin was frozen due to rust. Thus half the pad was always pushing on rotor. Replaced "trashed worn out rotor" and caliper bracket and new pins added high temp caliper grease on new pins. Mileage went right up to 14 + mpg. The caliper bracket and rotor are VERY difficult to replace for a DIY. There was no problem with caliper. Still the same one. I should have known there was an issue like that because the left rear was pulsating every time you put the brakes on. Normal driving without foot on brake, there was no pulsating. Used new oem ceramic pads. Had that new SUV feel again.

Chevy Trailblazer in Summer or Snow is a Go Go Go
Timely Brake pad replacement a must.New rotors at 100000. (A DIY issue for the rears but it can be done). Chaining Transmission Fluid and 4x4 Transaxle & front axle Fluid a must.(Change it early, say every 80000). Quality 5w30 syn oil ONLY for the 4.2. Change the oil & Filter every 3 to 4 months or around 3000 miles to give engine long life.(Don't leave the old dirty oil in for a long time, that causes wear.) Firestone Advantage 2 tires are the best tires for this suv at 33 psi. Keep your headlamps cleaned with non abrasive cleaner and put a dab of wax on them and polish. Put in cabin filters even though factory did not. It has a spot for them. The radiator fan clutch and while your at it belt should be changed at 150000. New battery every 3 years. Top off a/c charge every spring. The a/c on these runs COLD. "Perfect". Dexcool radiator fluid every 2 1/2 years. KEEP the undercarriage washed off, even in summer and especially in winter from road salt. Use a fuel cleaning additive every 3rd tankfull. Suggest the leading brand and it will keep the injectors clean. (Replace that air filter every 50000 with fuel filter at 75000 and Spark Plugs around 125000 with top ac brand. This is the best SUV gm ever built and it is on a Frame and not a uni body. The exhaust from catalytic converter back should last about 200000 if you keep it clean. (That is the only NON DIY Replacement parts job). The 4.2 mileage in city will stay around 13-14.5 and straight hwy only pops up to 19-20 mpg. Engine has enough power with the 3.42 axle. Sturdy as a hd truck and comfort as a full size sedan. Replace the back shocks at 175000 and make sure front and rear sway bar links are changed (total of 4) That is a tough job but someone has to do it.... No need for dealer service if your a DIY. Keep the factory wheels clean all year around. (by the way, lube spare tire crank area every year and test it.Buy weather floor mats in the winter. Use winter wiper blades front and the one on the rear The only issue after all these years is the drivers seat should have been more comfortable for extended HWY travel. (Some of the mileage timelines above may seem early but it will make the Trailblazer feel like factory new all the time, that choice is yours, do it early or follow GM time table. UPATE July 2020 : 17 years and it runs as good as new. Yes it does. With all the above done on a time table plus a new clutch fan at 200,000, & belts with pullys (WhY Not, it apart anyway.)Brand new battery every 4 1/2 years. A/C refrigerant added about every 2 1/2 years to top it off. YES, Trailblazers BLOW ICE COLD! Had to relace one of the Automatic Transmission Solenoids. Easy job plus new filter & fluid with a special non slip "RED" additive. Forgot the name. I also changed the rear axle fluild, getting the correct gasket from a parts sore was VERY difficult.Used Amsoil high gear oil. Used Rust-Oleum Wipe New Headlight Restore WIPES which restored my worn, foggy headlights lens. THIS WORKS and it does so quickly. Also I use every oil change 5w30 Full Synthetic with the Fram filter. USED crc mass air flow spray cleaner & the other CRC throttle body spray cleaner....SIMPLE to do. Only issue I had was trying to repair a couple of rear defog grid strips that I nicked. That to time to get the correct stuff that would work. I laugh at the new prices of any 4x4 SUV.I drive right past (what I call small SUV awd mini vans) in the snow. Ho Ho Ho.

Really nice car
I fell in love with this car the moment I saw it. It has all the room our family needs, and plenty of safety features (such as front and side impact air bags and OnStar) to help us out if we need them. It has the DVD for the kids, and that could be considered to be a safety feature in itself! It has plenty of power for passing and getting on the highway, way more than you even need. The steering controls are also very nice. The standard stereo is enough for me, but it needs rear speakers for the kids. Love can sometimes be blind though. Fuel efficiency is not one of its best features, which is a growing concern.
My 2nd SUV
Nice, smooth ride. Hauls a full load on the highway effortlessly (V-6). Seats six large men comfortably. Restricted visibility with the DVD player down obviously but the rear views handle the blind spots. Love the way the radio volume gently increases with the increase with interior db level. Theater seating is great!
Good value for the $$$
110 K mi. Absolutely no mech.issues to date. Good road ride, front seats are very comfortable , rear seats are not comfortable, tight entry/exit. Handles well on the highway, a little whale(ish) around town. The 4,2 L 275 hp engine is quiet and smooth with more than adequate power. Gas mileage is decent: 16-18 mpg city, 20-24 mpg hwy. With 55-60 mph cruise 25+ mpg. LTZ model but a basic Chevy w/bland, cheap plastic interior appointments. Excessive wind noise around windows. OA a decent American SUV for the money, not great, but a good value so far. I have not spent a penny beyond basic maintenance, which is a pleasant departure and surprise for a GM vehicle.
13 years and counting
I still love this car! We live in North Idaho and our winters can throw at us great deal of ice and snow. This car has never let me down. I use a good, siped, all season tire and it just goes. I can't say enough. The only add-ons I have done is an after market stereo and remote starter. I have had not had any mechanical issues only regular maintenance; brakes etc. I wish Chevy still made these.

This is one of the best cars ever had
If you only could find an ltz 2003 trail Blazer you would be more than happy with it have one and would never think of getting rid of it best car in many ways for the money haven't had to put a dime in it other than the fuel and oil changes friends have blazers that are at 300,000 miles and still going strong if some one says its bad they probably don't have one
281,000 miles and still going!
I used my TB EXT for first 6 years (unti 2009) as a work car doing sales all over SoCal. Did have to put in a factory rebuilt transmission at 240,000 mi. Other than that, biggest repairs were fan clutch and catalytic converter. A/C is still the best of any vehicle I've owned. Too bad Chevy doesn't make this model anymore.

Best car ever!
This car is the best. i can pass anyone out in it. lots of power. very comfy seats, feels like my couch at home. radio is awesome really loud and lots of bass. ac works great. engine noise is really quite around 1,000-2,000 rpm but once you get past 3,500 rpm the beast comes out. Just a great car
Amazing
Just Wow Greatest car I ever have I bought it used at miles 69,842 in aug 12,2006 now I drove alots at times now the mileage is 130,000 it never breaks yet ya'all hear me? nothing breaks I will always keep it forever I drive 600,000+forever I love this trailblazer I name it (Little Buddy)
2003 Chevy Traiblazer
Family bought the 03 EXT LT 4.2 I6 model in 2003 with 30,000 miles on it. We now have 145,000 miles on it. While this thing has very little steering feel and is slow to respond, it rides fantastic, even on fairly rough dirt roads we use to get to Grandma's house. It also tows well (5000 pound boat), though if you do tow a lot, get the V8. While the I6 is fairly powerful, you do have to rev it past 3000 to get more immediate response. Since this is the EXT model, it has more weight than the base model, so mileage is a 16/20 city/highway. It has gotten us everywhere reliability with basic maintenance. 3rd tow will take adults surprisingly well. We believe we can get another 150,000+ out of her
Worth the money
I have an '03 ext LT with 4.2L. This has been a great Suv for me and my family. I agree the fuel economy could be better but for a '03 mid size Suv it's pretty good. Interior is excellent but I agree that the radio buttons do wear off. I love the 3rd row/cargo space. I've compared this to an explorer with the 3rd row and it can actually fit an adult unlike the explorer. I'm 6'1" and can sit back there (although I wouldn't do it for a LONG road trip). It's a comfortable and quiet ride. I would recommend it to anyone.

Great Ride
Im a Chevy buyer. Started with a Cavalier 25 years ago, and worked my way up to the Trail Blazer. I love it. Its stylish and reliable. It still looks brand new, and rides as smooth as the day I purchased it.
Comfortable ride with good power
One of the most comfortable riding SUV's I've ridden/driven. Handles very well, but the 4WD is lacking if you're really in the thick of things. Definitely opt for the locking rear differential if you're going to test its limits. The interior is a bit drab; could definitely use some sprucing up. However, the large controls are very user-friendly. The numerous rear storage compartments are useful. Actual workmanship of the vehicle is ok, but after only 4 years of ownership, door moldings are working their way loose and rust is developing from the inside-out along the bottoms of the doors. Taillight lenses and license plate lights also let in far too much moisture.
I would buy another one carefully
We bought the SUV used with only 20k, but like it only had 2 miles on it!! Have been very happy with the power and comfort, the look is strong, masculine, but don't rub against anything or you will get bupper damage and maybe even more. The exterior look is great but lends to road scrathes on doors and poor bupper strength. The rear lience plate seal leaks and rear lights are not protected enough so they get chips and leak mosture into them. The interior after only 5 years has started to fall apart, and dash board buttons have scrathed off the name of the item. Fuel mileage could be better only 13-15 mpg.
Every vehicle has problems...could've done much worse.
Bought brand new mainly to tow my bass boat and to tailgate @ Colts games, and in those two regards it has not disappointed. It's never left us stranded. Even had a head on collision with a Ford Explorer 2 years ago, I'm still driving, the Ford is in a boneyard somewhere. I have had some minor issues, fan clutch as I'm sure everyone that is familiar with Trailblazers know was a very common issue. Had a few fit and finish issues the first year but were taken care of. 9 yrs and 120,000k later and she still rides(w/newer ball joints, connecting links and shocks) pulls and looks like new with no sign of letting up anytime soon.
Car saved my Mom's Life
Let me tell you something about this car, my parents had bought this car in April of 2003 brand-spanking-new and we had it in our family for close to 14 years, until just two days ago my mom was t-boned in a very serious accident. We had absolutely no problems with the car at all. Of course, maintenance wise - brakes, oil changes and new tires come with every car so that was its own cost. To have a car run to its highest potential, you need to take care of it. But other than that this car was perfect for road trips, camping and most importantly sailed though the high piles of snow or any kind of nasty weather that came periodically in Northern NJ in the winter. My mom loved this car more than anything and it hurt her to see it go the way the car did. A car came crashing into the driver side door, when my mom was behind the wheel and it pushed the car into a brick building, destroying it completely, my mom couldn't get out of the car cause her door was pushed in. Long story short, when I came to the scene of the accident, and I personally saw the damage...let me tell you, a person wouldn't have gotten out of any other car in one piece, let alone alive. I went to the police and responders on the scene and I shortly saw my mom, walking, talking and running around the car taking pictures, she was shaken and bruised up but honestly a-okay. She had just gotten a small cut on her finger. She was alive. The police and responders told me personally, that if it was NOT for this car and the way it took the impact and protected my mom...she wouldn't be here with us. I am absolutely thankful that this big, heavy, and much loved family car that was absolutely perfect for us and would have ran for another 10-15 years with no problem, did the job it was supposed to. We had some really great memories with this car, and this was the car I learned how to drive 5 years ago (I'm 21-going 22). You can always buy another car, but you can't buy the health and well-being of a human life. Especially the one of a mother. I and my brother need my mom. And you couldn't get a better SUV than this car was. If you have a chance, don't even think twice about buying a preowned TB. Just make sure it has a clean history and it was well loved like ours was. Thank you Chevy for making this car!!

Mileage stinks
I only have 17,500 miles on this vehicle. I get 11 mph in town and 16 mph highway. I have the v6 engine. Thought about trading it even though it is in mint condition and very well maintained. Decided that the difference in cost for a new vehicle would buy a lot of gas.
Might as well burn your wallet
Bought the suv with 130,000 miles, for a great price $3,400. Within 140,000 miles had to replace the motor. Have had to replace the water pump twice. Replaced multiple pulleys. The power steering pump has now gone out. The electronics inside are poor. The gauge cluster went out and I replaced. The LEDs for the seat warmers and a/c, do not work. The seals on the windshield leak. The back glass latch does not work and the glass will not close. The transmission is now slipping at 155,000 miles. Gets poor gas mileage at around 12 miles to the gallon. Is horrible to work on because of the design and placement of parts. Have spent more in repairs on this vehicle than we originally paid for it.

Great Value 140K Later
I bought this SUV new in 2002 and 140K later, it's one of the best cars I've ever owned. Out of the gate, I had a lot of electrical issues but the warranty covered repairs. I've probably put in less than $2K in repairs and maintenance through the years and it's still running strong. I'll probably retire the beast in a few more years but I couldn't be happier with the value. It will be hard not to consider a Chevy when I move into my next truck.
Awesome!
My first SUV. This is by far the best SUV on the market. The DVD system in it is a blessing for any trip. The 6CD changer sounds incredible, even without Bose. Ride is excellent. More power than a Ford V8 Explorer, better room, and certainly better looking inside and out! Traded in a minivan for this and will NEVER go to a minivan again. People complain about the mileage, but what do you expect from a 275HP SUV? Comes with the territory... Great job Chevy!
Loved this truck...sad to have lost it.
We had this truck for 11 years, bought it new, put over 150K miles on it. It was our most comfortable vehicle for long road trips, though fuel economy did sometimes cause us to drive the Camry. We lost this hard working truck to a head on collision with a drunk driver in a Dodge Ram and it kept my husband safe in that event (he walked away with bruises and a single broken bone in one hand). In all the time we had it we never had to do any major repairs, it still had original brakes, transmission, etc. From day one it vibrated when idling at 750rpm, never figured out why..but it was never a real problem.
Trailblazer Unreliable
Battery failed in 1st year. Buttons peeling on Premium Bose Stereo. Wind Noise is very bad. Had to install custom deflectors but still have noise. STARTING PROBLEMS**** - Multiple occurrences. Late 2005 and late 2007 - still continuing. Dealer replaced a bunch of stuff in 2005 which did not solve the problem. Finally replaced ignition switch which solved the problem. New ignition problem - not starting in late 2007. Replaced ignition switch but the problem is still occurring. VERY UNRELIABLE. Transmission shifts hard but has not failed yet.
So Close!
Loved my LTZ! But I think the check engine light came on at least 3 times a month... Between the dealership and my local repair shop I had many rental cars.
Lots of Problems
Already had in for service 6 times. Rear differential seized requiring entire backend to be replaced. Mileage is maliciously overstated topping out at only 14MPG. Vehicle unstable and steering to sensitive for higher speeds. Nearly flipped vehicle on interstate avoiding road debris. Interior cheap quality, seat does not go back far enough. Shifting lags. Wants to stall if vehicle sits to long or takeoff is uphill/not straight line. Tilt steering positions block instruments at all angles. Chevy has bottomed out on this model and their unaccomidating resolutions to my concerns.
Our Trailblazer
Purchaced for my wife. Gas mileage for this type of vehicle is not bad, she gets about 18.5 average, high 20.5 low 16.9. The ride and power for this SUV is great. We would recommend this to others comfortable, easy to see out of. Gives one a secure feeling. We tried out many different vehicles in this class and this was best in our opinion.
Best I've Ever Had
Bought a new one in 2001 (one of the first ones on the road). Traded it in and regretted it ever since. Finally got back into a Trailblazer. I've had them all - Durango, Passport, Grand Cherokee, Land Rover. I enjoy the Trailblazer far better than any of them! Gas mileage is fine. (18.9 avg.) What do you expect from an SUV? Much better than the Durango gas hog!
after 12 years, I don't want to sell it.
Purchased this vehichle in June 2007 with 42,000 miles on it. Since then the only repairs have been a thermostat, temperature control sensor, and a passenger window switch. Total cost of repairs is under $200 over 12 years. At 107,000 miles I installed a 2.5" lift kit, 17" wheels and mud tires. We have used it as a camping vehichle, towing toys, daily driver, family hauler etc. We live in Utah and have 4 wheeled it everywhere in the mountains and the desert. It has NEVER let us down or broken on the trails. My friends with Jeeps laughed at me when I lifted it, I laughed at them when they broke axles, had transmission issues, and I pulled them out on the harder trails. Snow has never been a problem with it at all even with street tires. At 189,000 miles it still runs strong with no problems. Gets 24 MPG highway and 14 city. Before the larger tires it was 18 city and 22 highway. I don't plan on selling until it dies. Even then I may replace the engine or transmission and keep on going. I love this little SUV, so does my wife.

Reliable!
We purchased this vechile new and now have 80,000+ miles on it. Very reliable. Only repairs have been replacing bulbs (seems often). Expect to get another 100,000 out of it. Great to tow with.
Definitely a Keeper!
Just got this beauty with only 88,000 miles. Was driven rarely and garaged by an older gentleman that passed away. Didn't know the trailblazer came in the LTZ trim. Fully loaded! Two tone leather, bose stereo, maroon exterior, 17 inch aluminum rims and chrome grille insert to name a few. Have done some maintenance on it, just part of it's age, nothing drastic, thermostat, spark plugs, ball joints. My only complaints are: I can't find a good position to stay with in the drivers seat and you have to crank up the volume to get the full effect from the bose stereo.

Finally an Explorer Buster
I have owned my Trailbazer since January and have put almost 12,000 miles on it since I purchased it. The engine is great, the transmission is responsive, and the ride is conmfortable both on and off road. I owned a 1999 Ford Explorer before this vehicle and Chevy has finally made a vehicle that runs over the Explorer in terms of peformance and quality.
Luxury Without Ostentation
Why would anyone buy an Escalade when this vehicle is available? It's a solid citizen. Reliable. Comfortable. American. Could use heated wiper blade arms for snowy weather. I recommend preventative maintenance. Don't wait for something to wear out. For example, a worn fan belt replaced away from home is always going to be cheaper than replacing a broken one in far off Dogpatch.
Loved My TrailBlazer
I bought my TrailBlazer new in Feb 2003. Overall, I have been very pleased with it. I looked at the Explorer, the Durango and Gr Cheerokee as well, but the TB's HP and styling won me over. Great for long trips, tons of storage, great in the snow (I have the locking rear). I too had problems with a leaking taillight and the trim around the license plate, but they were covered under warranty. Also had a rear window motor go last summer, but my dealer got GM to cover the part even thought the car was out of warranty. Wind noise was louder than I was used to. Mileage 15 city/22 highway. Just traded it on a new '07 Suburban - I was very sorry to get rid of it, but we simply outgrew it.
One of The Best
Best vehicle I have ever owned. Get 15 mpg city and 21 mph highway since the day I bought it. Other than ordinary maintenance, I have spent only $210 on it in 6 years.
My Best Buddy
I bought this trailblazer on august 12, 2006 with 69,802 and now it is 160,000 mlies. Never have major repair. It have not break yet at all I would be very happy to keep it forever and I will never sell
Until I bought this POS I was a GM guy for 50 year
Piece of junk. Worst vehicle I have ever owned and I have owned over 50 including MG, Austin Healey and Jaguar. Poorly engineered in that air con line runs to back between frame and body which both flex causing leaks. GM's solution.....raise the body off the frame and put the replacement back in the same place. It seemed like there was a repair every few months. The gauge cluster went out. Dealer wanted an outrageous price. I took it out, had it fixed for about 1/3 the dealer quote. Final straw was frame rusting so badly the control arm mounts rusted through making it unsafe to drive. No problems with the engine or transmission but everything else was a cock-up.

Don't buy one
I have own mind for three years. It has the V8, and it does get up and go. But it's been in the shop for things like two new transmisions, still giving me trouble as I write this. Several air conditioning problems since new, and finally last year it ate it self up and they had to replace the whole air conditioner, including all the belts. Right now I have a light on the dash telling me according to the dealer that I have to pay $350 for them to tell me why? I purchase the added protection just about everything they wanted me to purchase, now it's all ran out! Before the warranty ran out I was protected. What do I do now since the dealer told me that the air bags aren't working?
Trailblazer LT EXT
Wonderful SUV, Got it for $100 over invoice. Rough Buying experiance, dealing with the dealer. Drives great! A lot more standard than Ford SUV's
Good SUV, Good for towing, Ext LS
This is my 1st truck, 1st 4WD, 1st tow veh. I6 does well w/ family of 5, 2 kayaks atop, and 27' x 4,300# UVW Wilderness trailer behind. 3rd seat a must. Don't like the front seat belts. 9- 11 MPG towing, as high as 21 highway w/ just passengers. 17.7 OA MPG. With high priced gas, I'm very happy with the choice. Durango wheel base too short! Saw some w/ flipped trailers (beware!). TB Ext SUV pulls safe! With the load I'm pulling, I'll stick to flatland. High gas prices make that easier to take. Wish they had higher standards on the body sheet metal, you double take to make sure there's no body work on this. Toyota would not attempt sell this quality!
Price Repairs, But Fun To Drive
5.3 V8 has much power and can haul and tow most anything. The whole family fits comfortably. Fits all my work tools and ladders well. Att 88000 miles I just spent $2600 to have my transmission rebuilt though. Found out they use the 460LE trnas in their other cars and unless you upgrade some internal components it will burn out from light towing or heavily loaded. This year I have replaced a battery (again), new alternator, new water pump, brakes, tires (again), rebuilt trans. I am in it for about $4000 in repairs and it is not that old. Can't afford to replace it as I need a truck for my job. Engine is still stong and hopefully all problems worked out. Did but it used w/44,000 miles tho.
used trailblazer
We traded in our 98 Jeep Cherokee on this as my wife's daily driver. It's a step up from the Jeep, bigger, nicer, more power. My only complaint is the gas mileage. We are getting about 11-12 in town and only about 14-15 on the highway. Luckily she only has a 1 mile commute. I may try a tune up, but it shouldn't really need one with only 60k miles.
Run from these unless.
The transmission on these things are terrible. It has been replaced about every 3-4 years since it was purchased new. The first one was replaced by the dealership and they didn't even warranty their work. 3,000 dollars and they said they didn't replace the pump and it caused it to burn up. That was their fault for not replacing the pump when they rebuild it.

DISAPPOINTED
New door strap replaced didn't cure problem w/new part one day stopped. Dome Lights come on when hit a bump Won't do it when in for service, 4-wheel drive stopped working had to be reprogrammed. Hesitation from 1st to 2nd gear. Occasionally wants to stall when backing out of garage or parking spots. Engine noise seems to be getting loud. I bought GM product due to Family discount - MISTAKE. Dealership service is good though. For the price not worth it! I believe it's down the road and back to TOYOTA! "Prior Owner of Toyota- DOESN'T COMPARE!! I should have visited this website before buying!
Mixed Feelings
I've had my TrailBlazer since I bought it new in Aug of 2003. I love the styling and the huge cargo space (EXT version). It's been great for moving my daughters back and forth from college. Rides nice for a truck. The good news ends there. Too many things have gone wrong with it that shouldn't have gone wrong. I'm now on my 3rd instrument panel cluster assembly and now need a 4th one. These things cost over $500 to replace. Poor quality! I've had a few other things go wrong including my radio - I'm on my 3rd unit. As much as love the styling and cargo room, I'd never purchase another one especially considering the resale value is very poor. The money I saved up front is costing me now.
TrailBlazer
This car has been reliable and is extremely comfortable. I bought it used over a year ago and have not had one problem. I have been very pleased with the purchase. There is a little road noise and if I do not get the gas cao on tight enough, the Service Engine light comes on. Other than that, it is a great vehicle.
Nice...
I chose this SUV from others because of its exterior and great features. I personally am not a Chevy fan, but this vehicle has its difference from other SUVs. I love the roomy space inside, especially the extra 2 seats in the back. It is very smooth on the road, no matter how rough the road can be. Sounds and everything is good. It feels like a second home haha. At first I thought it would be too big for me to drive. It really does look big, but once I was on the road with it, there weren't any problems. And hey! It's SUV of the year! (=
Good Truck
Good SUV. Not too big, not too small. The EXT has room for my family of 5 and our stuff. Fold down seats leave plenty of space to haul things. The 4.2L engine is great. Lots of power. Have had lots of brake problems, and what I suspect may be a transmission problem at around 60,000. The LT package is great.
