Me and Hi Ho Silverado !
Overall has been very good, with a min of repairs/shop time. Starts great in cold weather.
Chevy Z71
Z71 is very aggressive ride, dont dare to use a Z71 Chevy in the city area with a few pot-holes. Don't let anyone 300lbs sit on tailgate. This tailgate is the only weak spot for all Chevy trucks

This is why Gm is going under
I have owned this truck since new and thoroughly regret buying the first year of a new model. Idk if my truck was built on a Friday or what, but it has been trouble laden since new. Fuel pump, ABS module, steering column shaft(never completely cured the rattling tho), seat belts, fuel pressure regulator, all during the factory warranty period. And since the warranty expired, multiple sets of brakes, spider gears in rear diff, no less than six sets of u-joints, transfer case flew apart internally(nobody had ever heard of that problem with this model of course). On the positive side it rides and handles like a car gets decent mileage and literally turns on a dime. Should have waited a few yrs
Not good or bad
I bought this truck with 73,000 miles on it. It worked fine when I test drove it, but days later everything went downhill. The brakes need to be replaced and the tranny is now slipping and the power steering is OUT
Watch Out
Would not recomend my worst enemy. The truck now needs its 3rd ABS sensing module. GM knows but don't care about the problem. I traded today and took a loss just to rid myself of the problem. You can't find the part in a salvage yard because if you keep a 1999 silverado you will need one and GM dealer gets $700-$1000 .
Silverados are junk
Many small minor problems. Transmission replaced at 58,000 miles. Brakes are junk...have never worked right. Passenger seat belt doesn't work correctly...never has. Engine vibrates badly especially on cold mornings. Eats fan belts. Have work with 2 dealers Terry Lee Chevrolet and Rose Chevrolet. Didn't seemed concerned about my complaints. Never fixed any problem I had...said I had to live with the problems. Have bought GM vehicles for over 30 years but never again!!!!!!
Silverado Nightmare
A big lemon from bad water pump to poor engineering (door stops and parking brakes. Several recalls. GM refuses to fix major items of failure such as ABS computer ($1,200). My next car? You can bet it won't be GM!
Poor Qualtiy
Liked the truck very much, but entirely too expensive to keep. New transmission ($1500), new antilock brake controller($1000). It appears to me that several failures were coming up. Most expensive vehicle, by far, I have ever owned, bar none. No reason GM can not build reliable vehicles, Toyota can! I drive only Toyota now, and have no plans to ever return to USA brand names!
Over 200000 and going strong
I bought this truck used in 2000 with 20,000 miles with the 4.8l and currently have 211,000 miles. Mechanically I have had no problems except for fuel pump 1200 dollars to fix 145,000 miles. And sun shell in transmission breaking at 180,000 miles. Engine still running strong and still getting 18-19 mpg. Not fond of the shaky drive which I had since day one, dealer said there was no problem. Still waiting to do 2nd brake job, great brake life. Not fond of the cheapness of the interior. But I know I can easily get to 300,000 miles. Strong engine.
1999 silverado
I bought this truck new in 1999. The motor is the 5.3, 325 cu 8 cylinder. I was and still am pleasantly surprised by the outstanding fuel econony. approx. 17 mpg.city, 22 +- highway. the slogan is "like a rock", and over the last 3 years i have had no problems. 72,000+ miles and still the original brakes. I still feel the excitement whenever I drive this truck.. i love it.
Love it so much...I'm buying another one
This is the hands down best truck I have ever owned. Chevrolet did a very good job "beefing" up their trucks to compete better. I have had no problems with this truck at all. Best of all...the 4.8 liter engine with automatic transmission gets incredible gas milage (even better than our Blazer with 4.3 liter). I would definately recommend this truck.
1999 Silverado 1500
three factory recalls, dealer (not the seller) reluctant to service recalls) recall repair not adequate. repaired sticking accelerator, it sticks now but warranty will not cover it. The auto trans shifts, noticably rough. (dealer, not the seller) said it was germaine to the year model. "whitewash"
Reliable and Comfortable Ride
Great ride! This vehicle handles good in all conditions with a smooth, quiet ride. The suspension handles heavy loads and towing well. I am averaging around 13 mpg around town and near 20 mpg on the hwy. Truly a truck that rides like a luxury car.
vvviiiibbbbrrraaattttiiiioooonnnnn
I too have had a problem with vibration in the stearing column. I purchased it used and took it to the local dealer (under warranty) who said they fixed it. To this day I still hear the vibration!!!!! )*^$#)+*!* I took it in again, and they said they would have to "really look into it" to find the problem. Hmmmm. Seems to be a common problem, but also a service departement flake-out.
Nothing to special
Overall this vehical has been very good, 4wd has come in handy and worked well on icy roads..., however recently i've had problems with starting the truck, I've taken it to 2 or 3 shops including a Chevy dealership and the problem still exists, the engine will turn over and over, ..they're replaced numerous partsand tried different tests..so far nothing has worked its something that doesn't affect the driveability. I also have had to replace the U joint, apparently Chevy was inaccurae with their calculations when installing that (on all 99's) therefore you either live with a hellish noise, and adventually a vibration, or get it replaced
Best Buy for the Buck
Minor problem with gas padel sticking, dealership cleaned and fixed, Fuel Gauge was also erratic, but dealership also fixed by replacing the fuel pump.
Excellent 1999 Silverado
I am totally pleased with my '99 Silverado 1500 4WD. No problems at all.
1999 Silverado
Had to repair transmission @ 60,000 miles ($1900), ABS system went kaput about the same time (est. $1,000 repair); have since found that this is a common problem that Chevy will not own up to. In spite of all these problems, I still like the truck. It's comfortable driving and fairly luxurious for a truck.
Die hard chevy fan
I purchased vehicle used with 64k miles on it, the power window assembly fell apart, the fuel pump went out and had problems with carbon build up, the truck was in a head on collision and held up fairly well. all together truck was ok, i have replaced it with a 2000 model just like it.
Z71
Very nice, powerful truck, but eats up gas!
99 Chevy Silverado
I've had no troubles...
Luv my Silverado
It is a gem to drive, and quite comfortable. Very stylish, great economy. Sporty with the 5-speed trans. Oodles of power for a v-6. Best looking truck on the road. Only minor problem with injectors at about 30,000 miles and Chevrolet fixed it under a service bulletin. You can't find a better truck!
