A great all-arround mini truck
I bought my truck with 3 miles on it and now I have over 111,000mi. I have only had 2 issues. 3rd door handle broke and I believe this is attributed to lack of maintenance which asks for lubrication of the body every so often. And my heater core which I caused by running a radiator flush in my vehicle too long. Otherwise this truck has been like a rock. Filters and fluids are the only things I have changed on my truck. The interior is hardly showing its age. I love my truck. Just enough room in the bed for a homeowner to complete any weekend project. The key to any vehicle is maintenance. If people followed their vehicles maintenance schedule these problems would be cut in half.
Mistake
I bought the car because it was what I could afford at the time. I should have held out. The four cylider egine is way too small, I live in a relatively flat town and it struggles going up the slightest rise in the road. Since I have had it, I have replaced the third door handle, seat adjuster 3 times, Door Molding, Both window seals, and next week I am replacing the suspension system. The ride is smooth on the open road, but I think they put it together with duct tape and bailing wire.

Go anywhere, do anything... Love It
This is a great starter truck for a small family with young children. Used for hunting in the rugged back country of New York, Mass, Maine, Vermont, Missouri, and California with no problems. Used to tow a 18" Boat, up to a mountain lake with no problems. 4x4 that I have never gotten stuck in. Fuel pump problems but warrenty fixed it.
Not So Xtreme S-10
I owned this 2001 S-10 Xtreme for a little over two and a half years. First off, this car got horrible gas mileage, about 15 city and 17 hwy. The build quality was not so great. The handle on the third door broke after about a year and a half (not covered by the standard warranty). The drivers side seat belt clasp stopped working. There were multiple squeaks and rattles coming from the dash and side paneling. Finally, the chip resistant paint the car salesmen told me the truck had turned out to be not so chip resistant. It seemed like any little speck of dust that went over my car while driving on the freeway took out little bits of the paint.
2002 ZR2
Gas on Highway gets 19 miles / gallon. Street probaly about 16 miles. Had problem with 4wheel engaging at 22k. Dealership fixed same day. Comfortable truck. Tows good. Four wheel very convinent. Good truck for outdoors. More room and comfortable than the Dodge Dakotas, Ford Rangers, and Toyotas. Drove all and the ZR2 was the most comfortable and had most room. Compared to my old full size chevy I only lost 6 inches in bed length and 2 inches in width. This truck will fit into tighter places than most trucks. Your better off buying a ZR2 that is a year old. You will save a lot of money. They have been averaging around 18K. Overall, I am statisfied.
